OMG Gem just told me that I was named after a Zatch Bell character! Who was a guy!!! Okay, at least in AMERICA, he's a guy. In the Japanese version, he's a girl. Nobody really knows why this was done, but one clue is that in the manga, it swaps between "he" and "she", so that probably means that there was some problems with the translation.

He looks like a girl either way, though.

Okay, Zatch's nutty fashion sense was weird enough (he wears a DRESS!!!...then again, so does Zofis...), but Zofis is wearing mascara. That, or he has really thick, lush eyelashes. And is that LIPSTICK?!! Or some unfortunate skin mishap? He's got a squeaky voice too. Not mouse-squeaky, but it's in high-pitched scratchy tone. I don't even want to know what his hair is like. Either it's just stuffed into his weird hat (I'm guessing that it's kind off like Maruss's. You know him, right? He's a part of "The Freaky Twits w/ No Eyebrows Brigade" as well as Reycom. No that's not really a part of the show, Gem just made it up.), or the hair in front is ATTACHED to his hat. Okay, self! Shut up! He's a freak! How can he help it, though? I guess that's just because he was designed as a female.

Oh, and if you're wondering why I've (or Gem, frankly) been spelling Zofis Z-O-F-I-S, it's because that, among the other quirks of manga/anime nature, Zofis is one of the names that have an alternate spelling, depending on what country that it's published in. The alternates are Zophise, like mine, Zophis, and, more commonly, Zofis.

UPDATE: Oh. In a recent interview, Makoto Raiku (creator of Zatch-Bell!) said that Zofis is always intended to be male and all that cross-gender mumbo-jumbo was caused by a couple of confused fans. Crud!
