You've found yourself in Zeiford's room. It's tidy, and the only indication that he's ever there is a pile of books on medicine littered about the desk. There's an Intesteen wriggling across the carpet to greet you, and it has a piece of paper tied around its "neck". The paper reads, Hello, My Name Is HT The Intesteen. Please Do Not Feed Me.

It looks ridiculous, being such a small creature. You begin to wonder if this is Zei's pet... HT meeps happily and wriggles up close to you. You're not used to having such a weird creature trying to be friendly with you... After all, petpets are usually adorable, fuzzy creatures like Angelpi and Warfs, not Intesteens... You can't really think of anyone you know who owns one.

Trying to take your mind off of HT, you peer curiously into the bookshelves in one corner of the room, wondering if there's anything interesting in there. Suddenly, as if from nowhere, a voice yells "HOLD IT!" and a young Zafara skids into the room. He's carrying more of those heavy books on medicine under one arm and is panting loudly from having ran all the way up to his room carrying them. You count them in your head, and realize there are 7. Ouch. His arms must really hurt.

Although he doesn't seem to care. "H-How did you get in...?" he asks, clearly surprised.
Thinking quickly, you say "Your owner let me in," watching as he relaxes.

Okay, sit down then." he says, smiling at you.

Family and Friends

Zeiford follows your gaze to the ragged photos pinned on his noticeboard. "Ah," he blushes. "This one is of my family: me, Giyai, Del, and May." He notices you seem to be staring particularly hard at Del's scarred face and wing. He smiles sadly.

Del won't tell me a thing about it, but I think he got caught in a fire... His wing is all blistered and burnt. When I tried to help him, he just shoved me away and swore at me. We've never been that close.

He touches the photo with one paw, and then moves on to others spread over his desk. "These are my friends. Some of them, though, I haven't seen in quite a while..." He sighs, remembering good times. "Anyway, why don't you learn more about them?" Zei hands you the photos to look at.

This is Jolly, one of my first friends. She's a petpet veterenarian (or biologist, I can't remember which). She and I haven't spoken in a while, but she was very kind to HT when I first met her. She didn't even say he was gross or anything. Just patted him. (This picture of her is awful - I drew it myself. You can tell I don't have any of my owner's limited art ability.) I hope we get to talk again soon.
Someone I've known for goodness knows how long - RS. I saved her sister Yisuya from death once, and she introduced me to Cherish, so... I guess I owe her one. After that I introduced her to my brother, Del, and they seem to really like each other. She seems to make Del happy anyway. He's been yelling at me a lot less.
Err, Poogix. I don't know too much about her yet, but she seems like a fairly nice person. She and I will have to meet up again one day so we can get to know each other better.
This is Rakushine, a.k.a Larx. She's... how can I put this nicely... a psycho. One of the most dangerous females I have met by far. I wouldn't mess with her. She proves that girls are just as strong (if not stronger) than guys. She has dragon blood in her, like Del, and she breathes sparks. She hasn't shocked me yet, but... I don't think I'll let her any time soon. O_o *hides in fear*
My brother of sorts, Del. He's almost constantly in a bad mood, and likes to pick fights with me. He likes training for the battledome, but LMK says he shouldn't bother (because she's so lazy.) He has a girlfriend, RS, and they have three kids, Iomu, Ehik, and Kindai_. O_o Who'd have thought Del would end up with a family? He's so mean. He has dragon blood, and his breath power is blue fire. His bracelets control his transformation, to an extent, but he's usually going around in dragon form. I think the neighbours have gotten used to it... *hears someone scream* ...or not....

Story

Zei blinks. "There really isn't that much of a story for me to tell. Since I was young, I always wanted to do something useful. I wanted to do good for people. And, of course, what would have been a better profession for me than a doctor?" He pauses for a moment. "I first learnt about Neopian medicine from a Lupe named Derek. Derek taught me a lot about medicine. I would always come and see him early in the day and he would lend me one of his books.

I would always take it, smile gratefully and say thank you. Derek would say, "Come back tomorrow for another one, alright?" When I wasn't with Derek, I would be, um, "operating" on my toys with scissors. I don't think Sei liked that very much..." He pulls a face, as if thinking. "One day I came, and Derek was sitting and reading. As soon as he noticed I was there, he smiled and said, 'Come on, Zeiford, today you'll see something amazing!' I wasn't sure I believed him, but I definitely wasn't going to pass up the chance to see something Derek called amazing.

So anyway, I followed Derek into his other room. He was wearing his working uniform, but I didn't think much of it. He sat down and motioned for me to do the same. I sat down beside him and he held his hand in the air. Swiftly, he drew a star shape with his finger. I watched in amazement. After that, for a few moments everything Derek did seemed to be in slow motion!

He told me that the star-shaped diagram on his desk represented the Healing Touch, an ability few surgeons had. "It's a surgeon's greatest treasure, and if you let it... a surgeon's greatest curse." I was confused.
A treasure AND a curse, Derek? How can it be both those things?
Zeiford, the Healing Touch is an ability that can save lives, but only if the doctor can handle holding life in the palm of his hands...
I remember looking up at him with such wide eyes then. I couldn't comprehend what holding that kind of power could mean...

Derek sighed deeply. "Don't worry about it, Zeiford... All you need to know is that because of this power, I'm being transferred to Caduceus of Neopia.
I was shocked. Derek was... Derek was leaving!?
I'm sorry I didn't tell you before, Zei." Derek said softly. "But it's okay. We'll meet again. After all, you want to be a doctor too, right? Take the knowledge I gave you and use it for good.
The next week, Derek was gone. He'd left for Caduceus. But I took his advice to heart and began studying my hardest... And that's how I am where I am today." He sighs, remembering old times. "Oh, I'm sorry, guest. You must be truly sick of me going on like that... I was just so wrapped up in my story..." You shake your head, and Zei decides to move on.

Suddenly, Sei rushes up the stairs and bursts into the room, giving both you and Zei a heart attack. "Hello everyone! I just came to tell you more about Zeiford!" Zei rolls his eyes, as if this was the last thing he wanted to do, but he lets Sei continue.
The inspiration for Zeiford came from the game Trauma Center, which is a medical sim! Before, I hadn't had any idea what to do with Zei, but that game really helped!

You see Zei roll his eyes, as if he's sick of hearing this story, but Sei doesn't notice and keeps going.

And his mentor, Derek, was based off of the hero of the game, Dr. Derek Stiles!" She grins as if pleased with herself for thinking of this. "And, uhh... His enemy, Adam, was based off of the Adam in the game, too. Though Adam really only showed up in one roleplay, but oh well!" Zei looks at her.

Are you quite done?" he asks, raising an eyebrow. Sei pauses, but then nods.

Goodbye!

But before she can get another word in, Zei helps you up. "Well, umm... Thank you for coming in, Sei. But guest is AWFULLY BUSY, you know, and so they have to get going." He looks at you desperately. You nod, looking at Sei like she's crazy. She grins back at you, looking more than a little insane. "C'mon, I'll lead you out," Zei says, escorting you from his room at top speed.

No offence, but your owner is really really weird." you say, raising an eyebrow.

Zei sighs. "You think she's weird, you should see her friends." But before he can say anything else, his window flies open and Sei leans out.

THANK YOU FOR COMING, guest!!! Please be sure to come again soon!" she yells at the top of her lungs, and Zei goes deep red.

What I think she should say is 'when I'm not here.'" He sighs. "But ignore her, guest. Please come and see me again sometime.

You smile as you slowly walk away from the house and down the street. "I will, Zeiford. I will."
