It was a day like any other, much was going on in our village as xweetoks rushed around, shopkeepers selling their food, while two guards stood at the entrance of the town, to protect it from enemies. I was five at this time, I played with the other kits while our parents talked with each other, it was a nice life, one that was easy to adapt to.
Although one day I awoke to hear screaming, I could just make out the faint, desperate yell of someone saying "FIRE!" At that point I jumped to my feet, I trembled from head to paw as I heard the agonizing screams of the hurt. My mother came rushing in through the door to our hut, she was panting, "Quickly! You must get away!" she cried, nudging me towards the door, "But what about you? And dad?" I wailed, she fell silent " I will try to come, but daddy, he will not be joining us" she whispered to me. I didn't have time to cry, my mother pushed me out the door, as soon as I caught glance of the havoc outside I screamed silently, all words drawn from my mouth, I was speechless.
There, there, stood in the middle of our village stood four large xweetoks, a sword in one hand, and a lit torch in the other, all around fire could be seen, tears filled my eyes, what happened to my home? One of the four lunged at me, I yelped, and closed my eyes, waitng for the forceful impact of his blade. Heartbeats had passed, and nothing had happened, I opened my eyes to find my mother there, the handle of the sword visible on the top of her back, she coughed weakly "....Run..." was her last words before her eyes closed. "MUMMY" I cried, tears streaming from my eyes, I wanted to stay, but I had to run, or end up like my mother, I picked myself up, and tried to find the strength to run.
I ran, I ran until I couldn't run anymore, I collapsed to the ground, my eyes tightly closed, all that had just happened flashed through my head, I couldn't stop crying, the loss of my mother and father was too much for me to handle, I curled up, allowing my tears to fall freely onto the dry grassy ground.
Over the years from that day I tried to teach myself something that my ancesters had never tried, to learn the art of fire. I succeeded in my quest, and learned some of the Earth abilities too, I had also learned every inch of the savannah, and had become bored of living here, oh how I wanted to know how it felt beyond the grasslands.
But. the question was not if I wanted to or not, it was if I could actually survive out there.
