I've been awake for a while now
A small but lean Lupess was at full alert as she felt dozens of demonic eyes preying on her, waiting, waiting to strike at the right moment. She panted heavily as she ran across the Altadorian fields, the cold grass brushing against her fur. The sky was dark, only a few stars shining bright in its darkness.
Heavy paw-steps thundered behind her, chasing her; not to capture her, but to kill her. These creatures were no bigger than her, in fact, they were the same as her. They were the same, but somehow, they did not share the same blood.
A ray of moonlight fell upon the the creatures, revealing themselves to be Lupes as well. Their eyes were bottomless pools of anger, their snouts growling open as they hungered to sink their fangs into the Lupess's fur.
The Lupess suddenly halted, her paws slipping on the moist grass. Her eyes widened as she looked at the sight before her.
The field ended at a cliff, which dipped down into a steep gorge. She wouldn't be able to escape very easily.
Her tail was fluffed out and her sleek legs trembled as she could hear the pack of Lupes growling behind her.
Kill her! Rip her to shreds! one yelled.
A broad-shouldered Lupe made its way to the front of the pack, his massive head moving side to side as he gazed around with penetrating amber eyes. His pelt was a dark gray, but the pale moonlight lit his glossy fur a glittering silver. He narrowed his eyes as he towered over the Lupess, her position now changed into one of fear as she crouched down closer to the ground, her tail between her legs.
He lowered his head towards the Lupess until his snout was besides the Lupess's pointy ears.
I'm sorry, he whispered, But this is for your own good.
The Lupe rammed his head into her chest, sending the small Lupess tumbling down the gorge. The gorge wasn't very deep and wouldn't kill her, but it would definitely hurt her; at least enough to prevent her from setting foot here ever again.
As the Lupess rolled down into the bottom of the gorge, she could see the shadowy figures of the Lupes staring down at them, their eyes narrowed as they stared at the Lupess who they now considered nothing but a filthy traitor.
The Lupess lay in silence, her eyes closed shut. In the distance, a faint whimper could be heard; this Lupess had a companion who watched her fall down. A small Kepru stepped down into the gorge, its large ears twitching as she saw her mistress in such a distraught state. The Kepru padded over to the Lupess; the size of her body was merely of a pup when compared to the Lupess.
The Kepru buried her snout into the Lupess's pale fur; she would stay by her side, waiting, waiting, for her mistress to come back.
I wasn't aware of what I was, who I was, and what my true meaning in life was. My life was made of lies and betrayal; after being called a traitor, my interest in life...had been lost.
Cause everytime I see your bubbly face

Yaniih spent the first few days of her life with her brother, and didn't manage to form a strong bond with him before she was sent off to infiltrate the Ryou clan. She was sent there as a young pup, and wasn't aware that she was a spy; in fact, she thought she had been born in the Ryou clan. Spending a few years living in the Ryou clan made Yaniih very strong, not only physically, but mentally. Her point of view was one of survival; to be an efficient hunter and help her clan.
Unfortunately, Yaniih wasn't aware that her presence in the clan was originally meant to be to discover the secrets of the Ryou clan. She was exiled; the lupes of the Ryou clan made her loose part of her memory to make sure she didn't complete her mission of spying on the clan.
Yaniih's attitude took a turn as she no longer knew what to do. Her memory was a blank slate; she didn't know where to go. After a few events, she met with the wandering Lupe, Reoruu. He changed Yaniih's world as he filled the blank slate in her life.
After finally re-uniting with her twin brother, Tavher, Yaniih became even more optimistic towards the future; she somehow always knew she had a brother because she could feel a mysterious pain, which were waves of energy being transmitted from Tavher to her. Yaniih's bond with Tavher is very unique, a bond only twins are able to bear and share.
Yaniih's current personality is very similar to a young Lupess; she is very giddy and likes to stir up trouble whenever she can. She is very open and loves to make acquaintances, not to mention that she loves to play psychological games. Yaniih cannot stand being insulted and will not back down from a debate.
Ever since I was a small pup, I always felt like something was missing. When I met Tavher, I felt an instant connection with him, and felt that my missing half was found. He later told me that we were twins, pups of the same litter, family. He's been through painful events; some so terrifying that he refuses to tell me what happened. Growing up in the Ryou clan, I always had these nightmares that turned my blood cold. I later found out that they were caused by Tavher and the connection we shared as twins. Now that we're together again, I won't let anything come between us again.
Suiqu's a special one, someone Reoruu brought me to. She lives all by herself on Mystery Island, so when I was looking for shelter, she said she didn't mind the company. She's very soft on that matter though; she gives homes to all type of strange creatures, most of them Lupes like her. The only special cases are two Shoyrus and a Kougra....They seem awfully familiar to me though. She never turns anyone away, which ends her up in the strangest situations. I always manage to get on her bad side though; it's a little specialty of mine. After all, I guess I can say that I'm grateful for her, since she gave me shelter and whatnot...even if I have no privacy.

Ah...what can I say? Reoruu takes up most of my memories, since he was the first one that approached me after I lost them. He's never talked to me about his past, and he usually tries to avoid it. I think he's done something that caused his own clan to exile him. I feel a connection there, since I was cast out by my clan too. I don't know why, but everyone thinks he's really arrogant and snobbish. My brother and him don't get along well, but I do everything possible for them to get along. I guess you can call him my love of sorts.
I don't know too much about this Lupess, but I sometimes see her come in and out of the jungles. Suiqu tells me that deep within the jungle there's a clan of wild Lupes, and that she's a part of it. Whenever I see her, she always carries a dreamcatcher around. I wonder if she's a magician or something...
Miya was a small animal assigned to Yaniih when she was still part of her clan, to help her in the hunt. These "pets" work as helpers in hunts, especially in the parts of the fields where there are small openings in mountains that store valuable herbs. Even though after Yaniih left her clan, Miya still followed her around, like a loyal companion would.
It starts in my toes and I crinkle my nose
Location: The Ryou clan is hidden deep within the Altadorian mountains and live on the fields that face Shenkuu territory. They live in various dens that are usually on the feet of the mountains (usually caves). The leader has his own den, adults have their own den, and pups remain with their mothers in the nursery until they're old enough to venture out by themselves.
Lifetime: Ryou Lupes are very mysterious beings, but from what Yaniih saw, they depend a lot upon the moon's glow. Ryou Lupes are more like entities than physical bodies. When the full moon comes, the moon's energy heals them and rejuvenates them. The moon's energy is what makes the Ryou Lupes immortal. A Ryou Lupe will live for a very long time before dying, more than a 100 years. When a Ryou Lupe is about 3 years old, they start their training to become hunters. A Ryou usually becomes a hunter after 2 years of training. They are considered adults when they reach the age of 13.
Hierarchy: The Ryou clan is very strange in its way of setting a hierarchy. The leader is usually decided by how smart a Lupe is and if they would have enough brains to lead their clan into the fields. A leader usually goes on a seven day "walk" on the fields. They cannot hunt or drink and are supposed to only survive on the moon's glow. If the lupe survives, then they are fit to be the next leader.
Except for the leader, everyone is considered an equal, no matter what gender you are, what pattern of fur you have, or if you're an efficient hunter. However, the Ryou clan is very vicious when there is a traitor among them. When someone commits treason towards the clan, they are driven out and even killed sometimes. The Ryou clan does not allow strangers into their clan because they live very secretly and do not want to share their ways with anyone but themselves.
Diet: Ryou Lupes usually hunt field Snowbunnies or Jumas. They will occasionally hunt feathered prey that makes it way onto the fields.
Behaviour: Ryous are normally very reserved Lupes, not wanting to let any outsider in their territory or offer help to outsiders. They are very close-minded and never change their ancient traditions. If someone does not share their beliefs, they will not fully accept that individual.
A male Ryou will usually court a female Ryou a year after they mature. It's very hard for a female to bear pups since Ryou Lupes live for very long. A female usually has one pup in their whole lengthy lifetime.
Health: Ryou Lupes never die from disease, since they are made immortal from the moon's energy, but they will die from physical injuries. Ryou Lupes die mostly when falling or tripping down a high cliff or gorge that surrounds their fields. They're not attacked by predators since their location is unknown and kept a secret.
Anatomy: A Ryou's anatomy is very similar to that of a fox, with slender legs and pointy ears. Their legs are very athletic and it is what helps them hunt in the wide open fields. Their specialty is running, as well as having pouncing skills. Their claws are normally very sharp and rough to climb on the gorge that is on part of their territory. Their large ears are especially made to listen for prey on the wide fields, and their eyes are more adjusted towards color than shadows.
Coloring: Most Ryous are light colors like blue or green to blend in easily with the grass. Their eyes are usually deep gem-like colors like emerald or sapphire. Their sharp claws are usually a white color or an almost grey color. Some of the Ryous do have stripes, but they are considered extremely rare. Ryou Lupes will occasionally have different colored fur growing out of their heads, but it is also considered rare.
That you make me smile
A bori garbed in white robes walked in a hallway filled with cages. The cages had cold metal bars and they shook as angry lupes howled and snarled inside them.
The bori calmly opened one of the cages and took out a round basket. Two young lupe pups slept peacefully and their eyes were still shut tightly. They lay on the baskets straw surface and their ears twitched faintly.
The larger and darker pup lay belly-up with his paws tucker in, while his smaller and lighter sister rested her head on his stomach.
The bori soon walked out of the noisy room and put the basket on a clean and shiny metal table. Another bori walked into the room and looked down at the pups.
I'll take the male and put him with the other fighters, he explained.
The other bori nodded. I'll get the young female ready.
As the two twins were separated, the darker male whined faintly and sniffed the air around him.
The female kicked her back paws weakly and her pointy ears perked up. The bori soon exited the room with her in his hands. He quickly slipped blue bands on each of her paws, which contained data about her. Lupes didn't know what they were, so it would cause no inconvenience.
The night was cool as the bori walked into the outside. An aisha in dark robes waited for him outside, standing beside a large uni.
The bori handed the lupess to him. Remember, they say the Ryou clan is out in the Altadorian fields. Just cross over the mountains from here and you should be there.
The aisha nodded and took the pup in his hands. I'll make sure to rub her with some grass so they don't scent us.
The bori watched as the aisha mounted the uni and rode off into the distance. They would soon be flying in the air and into the fields. It would all go as planned.
A cool breeze swept over the fields and ruffled a lupess's fur. Her fur was a light blue and her fur turned teal at the top of her head. Magenta stripes could be seen throughout her body and each of her paws wore a blue band. She was quite small, still an adventurous pup looking for trouble.
The lupess heard her name called, Yaniih!
Yaniih turned to see a large lupe with a dark grey pelt. It was Roka the clan's leader.
Don't wander too far away young one, he growled.
Yaniih nodded. Yes Roka, I promise!
As Yaniih sprinted away, Roka gazed at her worriedly. Yaniih had mysteriously appeared in their fields a few months ago as a very young pup. The Ryou clan immediately assumed it was one of their own since she looked very much like a Ryou lupess. In those few months, they taught her everything about the clan. How the moon makes the Ryou lupes immortal and that she would be one day apprenticed to be a hunter.
Yaniih ran and felt the wind between her pointy ears. She soon lost track of where she was and felt the ground under her started to become drier. She looked around and saw the fields were behind her. The ground below her paws had very short grass and as she looked towards the horizon, she saw the endless sand dunes of the Lost Desert.
The Lost Desert… she whispered curiously.
She slowly padded onwards feeling the sand beneath her toes. She looked up at the sky to see a scorching sun shining in the cloudless sky. The fields were far behind her and she gazed around the sandy plains curiously. Yaniih stopped on her tracks abruptly when a lance landed before her. Her ears bent back and her emerald eyes looked up fearfully. A group of two-legged Shoyrus garbed in strange clothes approached her quickly.
She looked up at them as they talked to one another. Yaniih couldn't understand their strange shoyru language and tilted her head in confusion. The soldiers stepped aside and let a younger and scrawnier shoyru through. He wore various shining jewels and bore dark red markings on his skin. He calmly knelt down by the small lupess and uttered a few words. Yaniih perked her ears up to understand and could make out a few words. Intruder…on our land? Yaniih shook her head. Roka had told her about a clan of shoyrus that lived in the desert and that they promised not to hunt the Ryou lupes as long as they stayed in their territory.
A loud howl came from behind Yaniih. She turned to see Roka and two other lupes at his flanks. The shoyru soldiers were about to attack when the younger shoyru garbed in jewels stopped them. He looked down at Yaniih with a forgiving expression. Yaniih gave a light nod, hoping he'd understand. She quickly ran away towards Roka and his the other lupes.
Roka snarled angrily as Yaniih approached him. Yaniih's tail came down between her legs fearfully as she followed Roka towards the fields once again.
As they ran, Yaniih managed to utter a few words of regret. I'm sorry I ever wandered away Roka, I promise to never do it again!
Silence cub, he growled. We'll make sure you stay in the nursery until the next full moon.
Yaniih looked down in shame. The full moon had only been yesterday! At least she could play with the other pups for the meanwhile.
This was the only memory to remain within Yaniih's mind after she had fallen into the gorge. Of seeing the shoyru garbed in gems and being scolded by Roka.
Many seasons went by and Yaniih was already 3 years of age. She had grown to be a fine hunter with sharp Ryou-like attributes. But her true purpose was soon revealed as the Ryou lupes had finally figured out what the bands on her paws meant.
She was a traitor. Sent by two-legged monsters to infiltrate their clan and to record their secrets. Even though Yaniih could not talk with the two-legged scientists, not to mention that she could barely remembered them; the scientists would study her body. They would find and retrieve her from the fields after a 5-year period.
Yaniih could barely remember what had happened, but her body felt stiff and sore as she woke up. Her head throbbed painfully as she looked around. The sun was rising on the horizon and warm light fell down into the gorge she lay in. Her nose picked up a scent and a small kepru bounded into sight. Its large ears were shaking and it whined fearfully.
Yaniih strained to remember who it was. Mi…ya?
The kepru wagged its tail happily and Yaniih painfully sat up, only to slump down on the ground again. Miya whined and lay down by her mistress's side.
A strange shadow towered over Yaniih. It was another canine. Miya growled and showed her tiny fangs, but the canine silenced her with a flick of his stubby tail. He slowly sat by Yaniih's small body and lowered his head closer to her pointy ears.
It seems you're in trouble, no? he said.
Yaniih's eyes opened painfully to see two pair of dark indigo eyes. A gelert with thick ears and a short pelt sat by her side. His short fur was a pale purple with darker purple markings on his face and right paw.
Who are you? Yaniih wheezed.
The gelert looked down at her. The one who saves your life.
Yaniih had fallen asleep again, but awoke once more when the waxing moon hovered in the sky. Miya was still by her side like a loyal kepru. The gelert had rubbed herbs onto her wounds while she slept to heal them. Yaniih got up on her small paws slowly and steadily.
Why did you heal me? Yaniih asked.
The gelert looked up at the sky. I watched you when you fell down that gorge. Your head was hit pretty hard, no? Can you remember where you came from?
Yaniih narrowed her eyes. All she could remember was a memory when she was very young, of being scolded and meeting a shoyru. And then falling down into the gorge.
Well, the lupes that pushed you off looked pretty angry, he explained. Calling you traitor and all that. I think it has to do something with those blue bands you have…reminds me of some neopets who're tagged for experiments. I've seen many in my time.
Yaniih looked down at her paws. Each of them had a blue band around them. The gelert padded closer to her, and using his short claws, stretched it out to see its inside. A golden plaque was on the inside with strange markings on it.
Two-leg markings… he whispered. Your name is Yaniih know? I've spent a long time in those strange towns, enough to understand their strange tongue and writing.
Yaniih stepped away. Yes, my name is Yaniih. You haven't told me your name yet.
The gelert gazed at her with closed eyes. Reorru's the name.
Don't you have a clan?
Reorru opened his indigo eyes in an arrogant gaze.
Let's just say they took a small vacation and won't be coming back any time soon, he explained calmly.
Reorru began to walk away from her and Yaniih instinctively followed him. Miya jogged silently by her side.
Where are we going? Yaniih asked.
Reorru gazed back at her as he began climbing the gorge. Going? I recently quite the life of a wanderer, but I know someone who owns a hut on Mystery Island. We'll have to stow away on a boat though.
Yaniih gazed at him fearfully. O-Ok.
Reorru lay calmly in the storage room of a large wooden boat. Yaniih curled up close by his side and Miya sat close by her side. Reorru calmly got up and bounded towards one of the wooden boxes in the room.
Reorru? Yaniih called.
Reorru wagged his tail as he approached the box. I smell gold.
His paws quickly opened the top of the box and his head reached into the box. Reorru quickly jumped back to Yaniih with gold clasped between his jaws.
What is that? Yaniih uttered curiosly.
Gold earrings, he mumbled. For you.
Yaniih tilted her head curiously. The shiny gold tone dazzled her eyes. Reorru's snout came close to one of her ears and bit down hard on it. Yaniih jumped back with a loud yelp. Miya puffed out her tail and snarled angrily.
Relax, Reorru soothed. Look.
He pointed to a broken mirror in the room. Yaniih padded towards it and was surprised to see her reflection. She was puzzled by the image on the mirror, but looked at her left ear in surprise. Three gold studs were in it, with small scarlet spots around it from Reorru's bite.
Looks good, no?
Yaniih turned as Reorru stood behind her. She wagged her puffy tail happily.
We have to get off now, he announced.
Without asking any more questions, Yaniih followed Reorru with Miya at her tail.
Reorru and Yaniih walked calmly on the shores of Mystery Island. Miya walked lightly behind them.
What happened to your clan? Yaniih asked.
Reorru gave her an apprehensive glance.
I was exiled, he lied. Just for doing what was right!
Yaniih nodded and foolishly believed every word he spoke.
Well, here we are, Reorru announced.
They reached a small yet cozy hut between tall palm trees. Reorru approached the door and gave it a small scratch.
Who lives here? Yaniih asked.
A lupess named Suiqu. I'm sure she'll feel pity for you and take you in, he explained. You'll see.
Yaniih nodded slowly, not knowing that this would be her new permanent home.
Pale blue text is vikitrow's Shindres and pale green text is Yaniih. Bold indicates speech.
A steady breeze blew over the fields and the sun shone clearly in the sky. Sleek paws beat on the grass as a small lupess ran through the wide fields. She stopped, her long and pointy ears perking up. She gently sniffed the air for any signs of other life on the field. "It's been a while since I came near here," she whispered to herself. She slowly padded on the grass, fluffing out her bushy tail. The field seemed quiet and peaceful. Would she be able to find someone here?
About 12 yards away lay a small cloud covered lupess on her back. She sighed in ectasy as she watched the clouds roll by, making out the many different figures that seemed to wrap themselves around. She herself was a marvelous specimen when it came to being lupine. Except the fact that her ears seemed a bit to big, and her tail a bit to fluffy. Shivering she rolled over to her side, the wind ruffling her fur. barely audible a chime was heard comming from a cloud shaped charm, upon her slender paw. It glowed a bright blue for a second and then died down...What was this?
As Yaniih drank in the scent of the field, she scented something peculiar; a foreign smell. She gently pressed her body against the grass in a stalking pose, slowly creeping across the grass. Her pointy ears perked up sharply and her nose wrinkled to focus on the scents around her. Soon enough, the smell started to grow stronger. Her emerald eyes glittered and Yaniih narrowed her eyes to see what was in the distance. She could spot a creature with a blue and white pelt, but couldn't make out what it was. She slowly crept forth to investigate the creature closer.
The lupess usually very in tune with her surroundings was much to preoccupied with her newest game. Her chest slowly rised and fell just as slowly, as her breathing became paced. Nothing could ruin her day, unless of course it rained. Slowly she rolled onto her side sniffing at the wind blowing around her. It doesn't smell like rain... she paused catching another scent. Another lupess. Slowly she arose, stalking not her strong point. She narrowed her eyes trying hard to spot the approaching.
Yaniih's tail puffed out apprehensively as she saw another lupess far away. The lupess had a blue coat with white splotches that looked like clouds. Yaniih uttered a few words that were swept away in the breeze. Who walks on these fields?
The lupess paused as she seemed to catch the words on the wind...she paused before carefully replying in a pup like tone, My name is Shindres, I live in a forest nearby and have come to enjoy a little bit of a vacation. Who might I be talking to? Although the lupess felt slightly awkward talking like she did, she figured it be best not to upset the natives of this forest.
Yaniih bowed her head gently. Greetings Shindres, my name is Yaniih! I've come here to visit the fields. She paused for a few moments. I used to live here, but I don't anymore. Her eyes flickered towards Shindres. What brings you here?
Shi bowed in return, although it was not her custom to do wise. I come on traveling business, a friend of mine resides in this forest. And I've come to meet with her. She had to stiffle a giggle hearing her voice. It sounded so mannerly, something she was truly not. Being only a teen lupess.
Yaniih's ears twitched as she listened carefully. I see. Do you know... Yaniih looked around carefully. The quickest way towards the ocean? She carefully sat down, curling her tail around her paws.
Shi shook her head, No I'm sorry although, my companion might know. She doesn't live that far from here. If perhaps you'd like to join me. Keep each other company.
Yaniih's tail puffed out excitedly. I'm sure Reorru won't mind...she thought deeply. Alright. I'll walk my own way when we've reached the end of the fields.
The lupess nodded, You can lead if you'd like. She poundered this, but then shook her head. Agreeing on her first choice.
Yaniih gave a quick nod and bounded forward. She made sure Shindres always stayed close by since her light paws carried her quickly. The breeze ruffled her fur and her tail puffed out. Yaniih tasted the air and felt a fresh scent enter her nose. She slowly came to a stop. I smell something fresh, she uttered. Do you know what it is?
Shi blinked stopping was not her best feature, quickly she skidded to a halt. Having to catch her balance as to not fall, I don't smell anything besides pine needles, and the hint of honey blossoms? What is it? She tilted her head at the lupess. Awaiting answer.
Just take your time

They start in my toes
Make me crinkle my nose
Wherever it goes
I always know
That you make me smile
Please stay for a while now
Just take your time
Wherever you go
What am I gonna say
When you make me feel this way?
I just, mmm
It starts in my toes
Makes me crinkle my nose
Wherever it goes
I always know
That you make me smile
Please stay for a while now
Just take your time
Wherever you go
I've been asleep for a while now
You tucked me in just like a child now
Cause every time you hold me in your arms
I'm comfortable enough to feel your warmth
It starts in my soul
And I lose all control
When you kiss my nose
The feelin' shows
Cause you make me smile
Baby just take your time now
Holdin' me tight
Wherever, wherever, where ever you go
Wherever, wherever, where ever you go
