Work in progress!!
Yabanci's very important page of things to ponder.
Hello guest! Welcome to my page! I'm Yabanci. I have made this quick guide for owners (and Pets) who may become victims to kidnappers. I guess this guide is more or less tips *shrugs*. I myself have been a victim and I would like to share my experience and, with _Majestic_Eagle_'s permission, the process she went through to get me back. Kucakla told me seeing _Majestic_Eagle_ angry was the scariest thing to witness. Anyways, following this guide could help you in proving your ownership of that stolen pet. Please, please, please remember it's not a guarantee. We are only hoping this page will help you like it helped my owner.
A word from my owner......
You may not always get you pet back or your account for that matter. So don't quote me on anything. I'm only trying to toss out some ideas to owners to help them. I never thought my account would be scammed. (I would say hacked, but I would probably get many neomails saying "You can't get hacked" I don't fall for those scams, so therefore I was not scammed.) I was lucky enough to only get temporarily suspended. I was also lucky enough to get Yabanci back. This page tells you what I did to prove to the user who got him, mistakenly, from the pound that he was mine. That proof surprised the user and was enough for him to return Yabanci to me. There was one clue and I kick myself for not paying attention to it. That day I was constantly getting logged off. I don't mean once or twice. I mean like the whole day. I only thought it was a Neopets glitch. Wrong. The next morning I woke up to find my account suspended. I was furious and confounded. I didn't know what happened. Yabanci was missing. My bank account was cleaned out and all my Dr. Sloth collection was gone. Oh boy was I mad. I would like to point out I never give out my information and I never visit any site other then Neopets, Jellyneo and Avatarlog. My only assumption is I must have been Cookie Grabbed somewhere. Remember, constant logouts are not normal. Don't even waist your time on the HC. Change you word fast!
Ok, Step 1: Hmmm, step 1. Oh yea. _Majestic_Eagle_ printed a list of every single book she has read to me and I tell you, there are a lot of books, but that was one smart move. In the beginning she only did that because she wanted to keep track of all the books I read so she wouldn't accidentally buy doubles. To get a complete list of all books go to:
. If you can and I would suggest it, print the entire list, both regular and Booktastic and put a check mark next to the books read. Keep this in a safe place.
Step 2: She had also printed a complete list of Gormet Foods and put a check mark next to every one she had fed me. To get a complete list go to:
Stuffs to remember......
I, _Majestic_Eagle_, would like to provide a few tips in addition to what Yabanci said. This leans more toward account safety.
Your word: Never give this to anyone! I'm in the Military and one thing that we always have to do and I tell you it can become very annoying, but it is probably one of the best things you can do. Change your word at least once a month. Also, use a mix of special characters, letters, numbers and caps.
You pin: Don't give this to anyone either! If you don't already have one, get one! Put it on everything. Make it something hard. Your year of birth (if not listed any place else.) A siblings year of birth. The last four of you social security number (only your parents should know that right?). Your Husband or Wife year of birth or last four of social. If married, your wedding anniversary etc.
Your web browser: Lots of users here on Neopets speak of Mozilla Firefox. I myself have recently downloaded it and so far I like it. I have also heard others say FireFox doesn't work for them. If possible, try all browsers to see which one works best for you.
Add-ons and whatnot: It has been highly suggested to download stuff such as AdBlock and NoScript. Yahoo! it or Google it. Whatever you prefer. I'm new to NoScript, so I can't help with that one, but there are plenty of others who can I'm sure.
Virus protection: I have Avast! antivirus and Spybot - Search & Destroy, both running on my computer as I type. They are both free to download.
Make notes of everything......
O_o That's a lot to remember. There is a lot of information TNT will ask for just to make sure they are giving YOU your account back. That's why I keep a list of all I have. Now you may be thinking, why go through so much trouble? Yea, I thought the same, but once you're the victim you'll wish you had done it.
Always remember, and this is important, stay calm. Nothing ever gets accomplished when you're in a panic. Always provide as much information as possible when filling out the report. I hope this will help you in your quest to retrieve your pet and keep your account safe. You will also have to cross your fingers that the person who ended up adopting your pet, if not the suspect, will be kind enough to return your precious pet to you. _Majestic_Eagle_ was lucky enough to get me back and I thank that person and so does she.
