Welcome to The Sixth Station!

Hello there! Welcome to The Sixth Station! We're a review site run by Snowflower and Muse. Previously, we were known as Sparkling Reviews, but after a very long revamp, we re-opened our doors on May 20th, 2012 with all new reviews!** We're going to do our best to review your site in a mature, detailed manner.

Please remember: We always try to be polite when doing these reviews, and we would expect that you would be polite to us in return! If you don't like something we wrote in your review, then please talk to us about it nicely. We would gladly fix any mistakes that were made with no problem! Giving us a hard time, though, would just make the situation more difficult than it needs to be.

We could use your help! If you use Safari or Opera as your default browser, we would like to know how the layout looks! So far, we know how the layout looks in IE, Chrome, and Firefox. If you're willing to help, then please Neomail Snowflower describing how it looks and if there are any problems with it. A screenshot would be useful as well, if you're able to take one. Thank you!

**If you've previously requested a review from Sparkling Reviews and added a button to your site, please change it to one of our new ones.

Rules & Criteria

If you're requesting a re-review, please read the rules again and fill out the form again.
  • There are some sites we will NOT review. Those sites are:
Guild webpages; about me pages; about pet pages; art pages, or any other site having to do with your own creativity; other review sites; applications for Snowflower's pets UFA; any offsite page. There will not be any exceptions to this term.
  • You are allowed to request a re-review after two weeks, but we need to see some improvements.
  • Please link back to the homepage after we review you! You can find link back buttons in the sitely section.
  • If you wish to get to the next section, click on the link that can be abbreviated to "ARTS." When the application says "You know November has come when..." you say "It's gone away."-
  • Some terms to know: When we ask if you want one reviewer or two, it means that you can have only one of us review you (Snowflower or Muse) or both of us review you. If you choose both of us, you get two separate reviews.
When we ask if you want a link sweep, we're asking if you want us to go through your sitely section and tell you which affies/listers/etc. are closed/on hiatus.
  • A link back button to your site isn't required, but it does make the review layout look a little neater.

Asking For Your Ticket (Pets) is for pet applications. After doing some research, we've come up with a rubric that could help you reach your goals. This review may seem heavily-weighted, but most sections are almost given points. Our reviews do NOT guarantee that you'll get what you're applying for, however.

Guides that were used to create the rubric: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6.

  • 20 points for proof of responsibility.
Achievements /10
  • The importance of your past achievements vary from owner to owner. Usually, they're only semi-important, just to show that you take care of your account. List your avatar count, trophies, etc, here.
  • 10 points for a list of achievements.
Followed the Rules /30
  • This is probably one of the top three most important things to follow when writing an application! FOLLOW THE RULES! We'll read the owner's rules and make sure that you followed them. If you don't follow the rules, you'll most likely not be selected.
  • 30 points for following the rules.
Backstory /25
  • Backstories are usually pretty important; they show that you really care for the pet and really want to adopt him/her. Even if you're not the greatest writer in the world, the current owner will be pleased that you tried. c: To improve your chances, check over grammar/spelling as best as you can.

First Impression 10/10
  • The layout is a light pink, and rather eye-catching. The text on the front page is informative, and it really a great way of explaining why the site is called what it is.
  • 6 points for layout quality; 4 points for text on front page
Content 30/30
  • Your fonts are very well done, and you have certainly made plenty of them! They're of good quality and you have a variety of font faces and colors, all of which go great together.
  • 30 points for high-quality graphics/premades/fonts.
Spelling/Grammar 10/10
  • Your spelling and grammar are perfectly in line.
  • 5 points for spelling; 5 points for grammar
Organization 20/20
  • Your site is well organized. I found my way to the fonts easily, which is fantastic.
  • 10 points for being easy to navigate, 10 points for being organized (everything in the right categories)
Layout 35/40
  • Your layout is very nice, and very pink, which is one of the main problems. It's very pretty, don't misunderstand, but it's a little too bright. This is probably because it's one of those shades you see very rarely, and is almost neon looking at times.
  • 10 points for easy navigation; 15 points for being aesthetically pleasing; 10 points for a practical design.
Sitely 8/8
  • You have a generous amount of affies, a few listers, and some very pretty link back buttons. No problems here!
Total: 113/118 or 96%
Things to improve on - Work on the layout a bit. If you don't improve the color, maybe change some things up to make it slightly less bright to the eyes.
Another note - Good job, other than that!

First Impression 10/10
  • Okay… I have got to be honest here. I love this layout, idea, site, all of it. It's just so imaginative and space is just a wonderful thing to make an idea out of. The text on the front page is informative, and very, very creative (round of applause here).
  • 4 points for layout quality; 6 points for text on front page.
Layout 10/10
  • The layout is space themed, from the moon header on the front page to the sky blue backround. It's well organized, very pleasing to look at, and matches the theme of your directory.
  • 5 points for organization; 2 points for being aesthetically pleasing; 3 points for matching your site's theme/purpose.
Content 19/20
  • Your site has plenty of content, which in a directory's case is very good! There's still a couple of blank spots here and there, but I'm sure you'll get them filled up in no time.
  • 19 points for content.
Spelling/Grammar 20/20
  • Spelling and grammar is fine here (and here's another round of applause for creativity).
  • 10 points for spelling, 10 points for grammar.
Organization 14/16
  • Your site is very well organized, but the links at the top of the page re-route me to the main Neopets site instead of the content on the page, so that needs to be fixed.
  • 6 points for being easy to navigate, 8 points for being organized.
Sitely 20/20
  • You really don't have that many affies, but considering you just re-opened you're doing rather well.
  • 5 points for affies; 5 points for listers; 5 points for updates; 5 points for link back buttons.
Total: 93/96 or 97%
Things to improve on - Just work on getting some more sites to list and those links.
Another note - Your creativity is just fantastic.

  • The opening text is very entertaining, with a bit of a twist at the end! It reels a reader in and encourages them to further explore the site. The layout is also simple but pleasing to look at. This is a good thing because vibrant or overwhelming layouts tend to scare a visitor away, and bare layouts tend to bore a user! The layout you've chosen is a happy, comfortable medium.
  • 4 points for the text on the front page; 6 points for the layout.
Layout 10/10
  • The layout has an outer-spacey feel to it, but with a cooler blue. So, it matches the theme of your site perfectly! It's the perfect layout for a directory; it arranges everything neatly. And as I said before, it's also pleasing to look at and is easy on the eyes. There is one small problem that has to do with the navigation, but I'll explain it in the Organization section.
  • 5 points for organization; 2 points for being aesthetically pleasing; 3 points for matching your site's theme/purpose.
Content 17/20
  • It looks like you've only been open for a little while, but you're already doing a nice job! However, to expand your inventory, there are two things you can do:
    1. Advertise on the Neoboards. The best place to advertise a directory would be on the "Help" board. Advertising could attract those who are in need of a directory and those in need of a place to be listed!
    2. Neomail the owners of sites you haven't already listed. Don't be afraid to ask if you list them! Just be sure to tell them if you do link them on your site. Remember! Don't ask to list them if they've stated on their site that they don't wish to be listed anywhere/are not searching for listers!
  • 17 points for content.
Spelling/Grammar 20/20
  • I don't see any problems here!
  • 10 points for spelling; 10 points for grammar.
Organization 13/16
  • As I've previously stated, everything in the layout looks organized and it's easy to find things within the site... for the most part. For some reason, the navigation at the top of the page doesn't work. It doesn't link to the sections of the site like it should. This may be because it isn't anchored properly. If you need help anchoring the site, feel free to Neomail me and I can help you!
  • 8 points for organization; 5 points for navigation.
Sitely 15/20
  • It appears that you try to update regularly! Excellent! You have a nice amount of link backs, but your affie and lister sections are looking a bit bare. Affies and listers will bring viewers to your site, so be sure to make sure you have a good amount of them, and don't be afraid to ask other site owners to be affies!
  • 5 points for updates; 5 points for link back buttons; 3 points for affies; 2 points for listers.
Total: 85/96 or 89%
Things to improve on - More affies and listers; more sites listed.
Another note - You did a very nice job!

First Impression 10/10
  • The layout is sleek and neat. Information about the site and the site's updates are in plain view for any visitors who are interested. The layout definitely makes the site memorable!
  • 4 points for layout quality; 6 points for text on front page.
Layout 10/10
  • The layout looks great; it keeps things very organized. A visitor would have to beware, however, that if they're looking for something specific, they'd have to go to the index, located at the bottom of the page. A link to the index can be found in the introduction to save you some scrolling.
  • 5 points for organization; 2 points for being aesthetically pleasing; 3 points for matching your site's theme/purpose.
Content /20
  • This site is a great collection of various coding techniques! Even if you already know how a lot of coding works, such as how to make a layout, you may not know how those various mechanics work. You may just know that when you type this bit of code, you get this as a result. Double Standard goes much more in-depth and teaches you about the mechanics of coding, even to the point of teaching you the terms for codes such as div, or codes such as b to bold something. Even I learned something new!
  • 20 points for content.
Spelling/Grammar /20
  • I did not find any spelling or grammar errors in the site. Good job!
  • 10 points for spelling; 10 points for grammar.
Organization 16/16
  • The layout is streamlined and straightforward; the content runs down the page in one straight line. It works similarly to a book: the content is right at the beginning, and the index (navigation to various sections) and credits are at the very end. The most recent content is in the beginning, and the oldest content is right at the end. It's very easy to figure out how to use.
  • 8 points for easy navigation; 8 points for being organized.
Sitely 19/20
  • The updates box is in plain sight, and it shows that the site is updated regularly. You also have a good amount of link back buttons. You have plenty of affies, but only a handful of listers. Being listed at many different directories will certainly get your site the views that it deserves!
  • 5 points for updates; 5 points for link back buttons; 5 points for affies; 4 points for listers.
Total: 95/96 or 99%
Things to improve on - More listers.
Another Note - Excellent job!

First Impression 10/10
  • The site you have made is very impressive! I'm horrible with coding myself, so I think I've just found a great go-to site, hehe. The layout is a bit dark, but it looks very good paired with the light bubbles of text. The text on the front page is very informative and well-written.
  • 4 points for layout quality; 6 points for text on front page.
Layout 10/10
  • The layout is organized just right. It's also really cool that you have the newest articles up at the top so they're right there, almost like there's a neon sign saying: "Oh hi, here's the new stuff!" It's a little dark, but like I said earlier, the white bubbles of text make it work.
  • 5 points for organization; 2 points for being aesthetically pleasing; 3 points for matching your site's theme/purpose.
Content 20/20
  • You have plenty of content on this site, and there's certainly enough on there to learn how to code things that are difficult.
  • 20 points for content.
Spelling/Grammar 20/20
  • Nothing to report here! Everything's fine.
  • 10 points for spelling, 10 points for grammar.
Organization 16/16
  • Everything is in a really good order. You have your site ordered similar to a file room-everything is in the order of date and perfectly so. You also have a link to each section, in case somebody needs just to learn how to fix one or two problems.
  • 8 points for being easy to navigate, 8 points for being organized.
Sitely 20/20
  • You have many affies and listers, and they're all in order as well.
  • 5 points for affies; 5 points for listers; 5 points for updates; 5 points for link back buttons.

Muse: I'm very thankful you chose to be reviewed by The Sixth Station. :3

S: Now, some of you may be wondering where "The Sixth Station" came from. Others of you who might be familiar with Studio Ghibli probably aren't wondering. X3 "The Sixth Station" is the name of a song by a composer called Joe Hisaishi. The song was used in the Studio Ghibli film by Hayao Miyazaki, Spirited Away. When deciding to do the revamp, I figured that it would be a good name for the site (I say "I" because Muse hadn't joined me yet). And that's that. ^_^

F.A.Q.

Why won't you review about me/pet/guild, other review sites, creativity pages, or off-site pages?
Well, it's obvious why we won't review off-site pages; we don't want to go to some site that might be some scam. We also would really prefer not to be frozen for promoting off-site pages. o_o
In terms of review sites: Everybody has their own style of reviewing. We refuse to judge people based on their styles and opinions.
The same could be said for about me pages: Judging you on your likes/dislikes and awarding/taking away points based on our own opinion? That's just wrong! Nobody has any right to tell you what you must like/dislike. The same with about pet pages: They're your own character. You get to decide how you want them to act, and you get to decide what personality you think is the best. This also goes for creativity pages. Your creativity is your style.
In terms of guild pages... We don't really see the point... It's just a little info page telling about your guild.

Why do I have to wait two weeks for another review?
Two weeks is a spacious amount of time to fix errors.

Why do I need to link back to your page?
Why not? o_o These reviews take a surprising amount of time and effort to complete, especially when the requester wants a link sweep. We'd feel like we did the review for nothing if you don't link back. And we need to be noticed too!

Why do I need a link back button?
It just makes the review layout look a bit neater. You don't really need one.

If our site offers a service that you have requested from/want to request from, will there be any bonus points???
No, that would be unfair. We leave any bias out of our reviews. If we've requested something from you before, that's in the past. If we find that we'd like to request something as we do your review, that will be a whole other matter that has nothing to do with the review. We will also wait until the review is posted to send any requests.

I don't like what you wrote about me in my review!!!
Please go back and read the last term
here.

Criteria

Why do you have a set amount of points awarded for specific things?
This is mainly for us. Before Snowflower created this system, she was just estimating how many points she should take off. She didn't know exactly why she was deducting points, or how many. This is just so we don't take off more points than we should.

How many re-reviews can I request?
As of now, you can request as many as you want! If we get a person who ends up requesting ten of them, however, we might add a limit. So far, that hasn't happened though. o_o

In the "Layout" section of the criteria, what do you mean by, "Matches site purpose"?
Does it have anything to do with the content of the site, or is it completely random? For example:
Matches site purpose: An Altador Cup guide with an Altador Cup-related layout.
Does not match site purpose: A Bruno's Backwoods Breakaway guide with a Faerie pet layout.

Why don't you count sister/brother sites in the "Sitely" section?
There aren't too many sites with sister/brother sites, so we'd feel bad taking away points for not having one.

Reviews

I don't see my review on the page! ;A;
Don't panic! There's an archive section where you can find most past reviews. :) If your review was completed after March 9th, 2011, then it'll be there.

I don't agree with something you wrote in my review. :/
If that's the case, then please nicely Neomail the person/people who did your review and tell them what's wrong. You might be able to work something out, and we might change your review depending on the situation. We always make sure to be polite while we're reviewing, and we'd like you to return the favor. If you send us a Neomail lashing out at us, you will get a reply, but your chances of getting anything in your review fixed are slim to none.

Staff

Can I work for you?
We're very happy that you'd like to work for The Sixth Station, but right now, we're not accepting new workers. ^_^

Coding Help

Why don't you show us how to make [code bit here]?
It's either because we don't know how, or it's a code that is no longer supported by the filters. But if you think that it needs to be here... *pokes next question*

I have a suggestion!
Okay! Send it in to either of us! :)

Other

Hello!
Hi! :D

Where can I find out more about you?
Well, here's Snowflower's about me page and here's her user lookup, and here's Muse's lookup.

Can I Neomail you for fun?
Sure, unless your idea of fun is harassing us. :D

Can I Neofriend you?
Neither of us accept friend requests unless we know who you are/have spoken to you.

About The Sixth Station

The Sixth Station was created after the revamp of our previous review site, Sparkling Reviews. The entire revamp took almost a whole year, mostly due to the real world being extremely busy. The remaking of our previous review site started on August 28th, 2011, and The Sixth Station didn't open its doors until May 20th, 2012.

The name The Sixth Station comes from the song by the same name composed Joe Hisaishi for the movie Spirited Away. I thought of the title while on a train ride around mid-evening, while the sun was setting. I was listening to "The Sixth Station" while passing close to a river, like in the scene of Spirited Away that the song was used. Although the song is slow and a bit sad, it's still peaceful and calming. For a happier song, we could've gone with "One Summer Evening," also by Joe Hisaishi, but somehow, it doesn't have the same ring to it. X3

- Snowflower

We're very serious about our work here at The Sixth Station. We do our best to work on your review as soon as we get the request. Either Snowflower or I will do them, or we'll both do them as a team, and I hope we do the review to the best of our ability. TSS always puts our best foot forward when doing reviews. We look at everything required of a normal review and more, and we always put more effort than the normal standards require.

TSS in the future is gonna be epic. We're planning on adding all that we can into this. I'm hoping maybe to add some more reviews and more features, perhaps a site spotlight. c:

About Sparkling Reviews

Sparkling Reviews was the name of the site before our revamp. The idea for the site was first thought of by Elle, our guild leader. Elle offered to start the site with Snowflower, and work began on the site during the summer of 2010. Sparkling Reviews finally opened on September 2nd, 2010. Right off the bat, we received reviews from many wonderful sites, with Race Trak being our first. (Sadly, however, it has since closed.) We were lucky enough to find and acknowledge many interesting sites. (Some of which are still around today!) Some of the most interesting sites we've reviewed include Inscribe, Whoops!, and Say What? (the last of which is closed).

After a little over a year, Elle decided that she (understandably) didn't have enough time to help with Sparkling Reviews and left. Snowflower ran the site by herself for a few months before asking Muse if she'd like to help, to which Muse accepted. Sparkling Reviews had fallen back a little bit by then, so we decided that it was time to fix the site up a little. After nine months on revamp, Sparkling Reviews was closed on May 20th, 2012, and replaced with The Sixth Station. We're back and better than ever!

Note: Sparkling Reviews had no affiliation with any offsite review sites. Any similarities are just weird coincidences.

Updates

November 25th, 2012 - Short hiatus!
Hey guys! Sorry for the lack of updates. We're both safe! However, we have been really busy with real life lately, and we'll be taking an indefinite hiatus. We'll finish the reviews we've already received, but we won't be accepting any more until the hiatus is over. We're really sorry, but it's just gotten to be a bit hectic!
Review status switched to slow, review requests closed, hiatus started

October 29th, 2012 - Stay safe, East coasters!
To anyone on the east coast: STAY SAFE! For those of you who don't know, there's a huge storm along the East coast fo the US. Both of us are along the East coast, so we're switching the review status to "slow" and we're closing reviews for a while, just in case either of us lose power. Stay safe!
