It all began on a sunny day in December, when I opened my eyes for the first time. It was cold, and being wet as I was I cried out for my mother, in fear that I'd freeze. Then, a tall spotted stallion leaned other me, looking down at me with soft blue eyes.

Oh, Keveronique," he said gently, smiling at the white mare that I laid beside. "They're beautiful." I heard another shrill cry, and turned my head to see a small brown filly laying next to me. She too shivered in the winter's unforgiving chill. I let out another cry, and was pleased to see the beautiful mare respond. She moved her head closer and nuzzled me with he warm muzzle, nickering softly. Almost immediately, the little brown filly next to me cried out, demanding attention. The two parents giggled softly at our begging, and mother moved us in closer to her body while she nuzzled our shivering bodies.

What shall we call them?" Keveronique asked in her gentle, motherly voice. The stallion puzzled for a few seconds while mother continued to tend to our needs, and his face finally lit.

Xriiano and Zeryn," he said, giving us both at warm smile as he spoke. Keveronique smiled and nodded, translating the names to what they ment.

Zeryn, 'Bold Love' and Xriiano, 'Quiet Strengh'. Welcome to earth, my twins.

Joining the Herd

As a few months passed, Zeryn and I had many small adventures as our parents searched for a nice herd. She'd wander off alot, and I'd hurry after her trying to tell her it just wasn't safe. She'd always give me a playful smile, lower her brows, and ask, "Where's your feel for adventure?" And with that, she'd turn and bound away, but for some strange reason I'd always follow. She'd get us both into loads of touble. Say when we 'brought' a cougar home? Or the day we were found 'swimming' in a lake of alligators? Or even the time Zeryn screamed and we got to go 'body boarding' in the falling snow? But no matter what happened, we both stuck together, and mom and dad always forgave us in the end.

Soon, mom and dad found a herd run by a gigantic uni named Pooka. He was handsome, and quite charming Zeryn had whispered to me as dad and the stallion spoke to each other about the herd. I at first had slunk under mom when the stallion looked at me with his gentle eyes. But I soon came out of my hiding place, and smiled back at him. Zeryn was almost immediately wanting to be Pooka's friend, and began to introduce herself as I stood in silence next to mother's slinder legs. Mom and dad spoke to each other for a little while, comparing their thoughts about the stallion's herd information. They soon agreed, and Pooka welcomed us to our new herd, Running Free.

The herd was friendly, and mother soon found who she liked and didn't like, but father spent his time chatting with a few of the herd members. Mother had to keep her eye on Zeryn, who would canter about excitedly and introduce herself to everyone, but she didn't have to worry much about me since I remained by her side at all times. I did notice there was one stallion whom she did not approch. He was a large stallion, red on one side of his body and black on the other. His eyes seemed to gleam with hate, and his wings were that of a dragon's. I understand why she wouldn't go near him, he was scary.

Good Bye

As the monthes slowly passed by, dad and Zeryn left to go on a small trip, promising they'd return soon. Tears rolled down our faces, as mom said good-bye to her love, and I said good-bye to my one and only sister. We stood in silence as we watched them disappear into the forest, not a word was spoked, nor a sound made. We hardly even breathed.

Meeting Naru

A few days passed, and mother remained calm, since she knew the journey would last about a month. I on the other hand found life without Zeryn...boring and adventureless! I never had anything to do. Then, one day, a small grey filly entered the herd, but was followed by no one. I almost immediately kept my ice blue eyes fixed on her, watching her as she moved about the others as if one of them would turn on her and pounce her. It didn't take long for her to realize she was being watched, and we both stared nervously at each other for quite some time. But, it wasn't long till one of us had started conversation, and I soon found myself becoming friends with this little filly.

So, what's you're name?" She asked in her soft, gentle voice.

Xriiano," I replied simply. She giggled lightly.

I'm Narusiga," she said, smiling as she cocked her little grey head to the left. I eyed her quickly, and noticed worry flashed in her eyes the second I did.

What's wrong?" I asked. "And why are you wearing those blue things?

I, uh-I mean," she sighed and looked at me nervously. "I'm a pirate.

A what?" I asked, and the moment I did she seemed to light up. "What's a pirate?

Oh, nothing important," she said quickly, but not sharply. I dropped the subject, realizing suddenly that she had no parents at the age she was. Asking her about it, I soon learned her mother had died, and her father had left her behind. She was parentless, and I felt sorry for her. Then, an idea leaped into my head, and I asked her if she'd like to become my new adopted sister. Naru gave me an uneasy look but after meeting my mother, she accepted.

Journey to the Mountain

Not long after Naru had accepted membership to my family, we discovered that beautiful lights could be seen touching a mountain top ever night. The beauty seemed to cast a spell over us, and we both wanted to get to the light. But we knew the journey would be a danerous one, and decided not to go even though we both wanted to. Then, we ran into an unattractive grey mare named Queandria, who offered to take us to the top of the mountain. She was friendly, and we accepted even though we both knew she didn't live in the herd.

We faced many dangers traveling the mountain. We faced a giant herd of starving lupes, several areas where we had to travel across thin ice, and we even escaped an snow fall. But, we also learned that the two colored stallion, Xareii, wasn't too mean after all. In turned out he had followed us up the mountain, and was there to aid us when we needed it. (Even though he and Andria found themselves fighting a lot)

When we finally reached the top of the mountain, I ventured too close to the lights, and the sound of several animal cries seemed to scream from the lights. There was a blinding flash, and the last of my vision disappeared. I opened my eyes to pure darkness, and began to freak out. Naru and Andria rushed to my side, trying to calm me. But it didn't really work. I cried in fear, feeling but not seeing Naru nuzzle me lightly. I don't know what Xar did, for I never heard a noise from him. I settled down the second we reached the bottom of the mountain and I could feel mother's gentle muzzle and smell her close.

Here and Now

Here I am now, blind. My spirit has died, and I'm upset I have not been able to watch Naru grow as she has me, though I am sure she has become very beautiful. I don't move around much anymore, since I cannot see anything but darkness.

I am out searching for my father with a mare named Kalushaa, who has stayed by my side longer than any other has, not including family. I fear that if we don't find him soon...mom...mom may not make it. She's dieing of a broken heart, slowly, but steadily...
