The Sundry Herd

Lost Exile

As you walk out of the mouth of the canyon, before you is a wide desert of terra cotta stone. I'll never get out of here, you think desperately. Yet, you do not panic. Somehow... the land seems.. more forgiving than harsh.

Then something catches your eye - some interestingly shaped marks on the surface of a large boulder. Curious, you walk over and run your hand across the rough sandstone. They are unlike anything you've ever seen before.

You don't have time to ponder your discovery, however, for the next moment you hear hoofbeats behind you. Turning around, you see a young mustang Uni colt. His coat is a smooth, silky grey, and his mane is almost black coloured. What's the most unusual, other than the fact that grey mustangs aren't all that common, is the brightly coloured ornament on his right hindleg. You can't tell what materials it is made of. Attatched to the cuff are three feathers - a pale golden one, a brown-and-white one, and a blue one. The gold and pinto feathers seem to be crusted with blood on the tips, but not the blue.

:Heyla, guest,: a voice whispers softly. You look at the colt, but his mouth never moved. He spoke directly into your mind! :You summoned me by touching the ancient runes.:

Xeriven's Past

Part 1 : The Birth
I wasn't born in these inhospitable deserts that I now frequent. No.. instead, I remember grass! Lush green grass.. the fresh scent of pine needles in the air.. and mountains in the distance. It is with some regret that I admit that the identities of my parents remain unknown.. after the OutCasting.. I only remember bits and pieces of my past. My sire and dam I was not permitted to know.

Part 2 : The Herd
Pardon me for being vauge for the reason I explained above, but all I remember of the herd I was once a part of is that it was a sworn rival herd of the Tasau-Maen Herd. Our herd was everything that the Tasau-Maen wasn't - willing to accept new members and having a system where it wasn't a dictatorship.

Part 3 : The Warning
The one part of my past that I do not wish to remember, yet I remember so clearly. The one thing my herd valued above everything was rank. I don't know why they made such a big fuss about it. As a colt below the age of one, and without prominent lineage, I was practically at the bottom of the ladder of respect. And I hated it. While the highborn foals were practically free to do whatever they wanted and get away with it, us lowerclass had so many restrictions.. but the worst part was how we were required to show submission to those of higher rank than us. (also known as everybody else.) And so I rebelled. I went against almost all of the basic rules of the herd. They hated me for expressing my viewpoints.

Part 4 : The Banishment
Their response was immediate, and without question. With the entire herd watching (the ultimate shame) I was denied my memory and kicked out of the herd. I was about a yearling then, and capable of looking after myself. Thankfully.

Part 5 : The Wandering
Once out of the care, however faulty, of my herd, I wandered listlessly around for about a year and a half. I was still recovering from having my thoughs ripped out like the pages of a book by one of the herd mages... I do recall a very kind stallion, Skantrin, who helped me out and was like a father to me. He gave me the ornament that I now wear, along with the golden feather. I don't know where he went now, but he was so kind...

Part 6 : The Settling
I was about at the end of my strength by the time I came to where I am now. With Skantrin's help as well as the magical skills I gained over the years, I turned this hostile dryland into my own haven.

The Sundry Herd

Xeriven looks out over the desert, and for a brief moment, you feel like you're flying at the speed of light, beyond the desolate lands before you, to the seaside, across the ocean, and to a beautiful island of lush grass and Unis moving contentedly about. :This is the Sundry Herd. I stumbled upon this awe-inspiring Herd of Unis while following a crystalline mare by the name of Bea. I've yet to interact more with the members of this Herd, but I hope I will be able to join this Herd... and finally be a part of something that is worth living for.: He sighs, deep in thought...
