Character Profile
Whilti is a little quirky, but she knows just about everything there is to know about aerospace engineering. She is very loyal to the space ships she works on, and the best way to annoy her is to insult her ship, since she thinks of it as a person. Whilti was never at the top of her engineering class, but once she was given her first job on a ship, she felt like she had been working like this her whole life. While Whilti isn't afraid to get dirty, she doesn't have a mean bone in her body, and is easily intimidated. Despite her job as a mechanic, she enjoys being girly occasionally. She is sensitive, and goes into shock when confronted with violence.
History
Whilti was born on January 6th, on Krawk Island. Her mother died from causes due to childbirth, and the lack of immediate medical care on the island. Whilti was raised by her father, who encouraged her love of mechanics and taught her about it from a very young age. As Whilti watched her father repair ships, she grew curious as to what her island's neighbor, Mystery Island, was like.
As Whilti would wonder about Mystery Island, she began to wonder what lay even farther beyond it, and then what lay even farther beyond Neopia. That, in addition to her instincts as an Alien, led to her decision to explore the stars. Whilti did graduate on Krawk Island, so she inherited their distinguishing accent. But, as soon as she could, Whilti decided to get a degree in engineering on Kreludor. She would normally help her father with his workshop on Krawk Island with fixing old machines. Although, there weren't too many customers on the small island, so there wasn't much pay. To make extra money, Whilti worked as a waitress at Cafe Kreludor while she was earning her degree.
Once Whilti heard that the Space Station was accepting job applications for pets to transport goods from Neopia to Kreludor to the Space Station, Whilti applied for a job as an engineer to make necessary repairs on broken-down space ships. Once she was accepted, Whilti moved into her new home at the employee quarters at the Space Station.
Whilti worked at making repairs to space ships for about a year, when she was given her own space ship and her own assistant, a N-4 Info Retrieval Bot she called River. The ship was registered under the name Nemesis, and Whilti started flying transport missions herself.
Emerald Moon
Whilti had been flying transport missions for about two years when the Allegiance took over. At first, Whilti didn't mind so much, since her job wasn't affected, and her payment in fact when up. Then the Allegiance announced new repairs had to be made to their old space ships.
Of course, Whilti had no choice but to take Nemesis in. She did have mixed feelings about this, however. But she was too timid of the new government to do anything but wait. Once her ship had returned from the garage, Whilti started back on her transport missions as normal.
It was less than a week when Whilti was ordered to fly through an asteroid belt to deliver supplies to a new planet the Allegiance had discovered. Whilti was scared, of course, and although she tried to get out of it, the Allegiance would not change their minds. Good thing River was with her, because without her Petpet, Whilti would probably have quit her job.
Feeling better due to the confidence and reassurance given by River, Whilti started off on her mission. She found it took a much longer time to change the course of Nemesis to maneuver around the asteroids. When Whilti was almost halfway through the belt, she found herself in the path of a large asteroid. She struggled to change course, but her instruments wouldn't respond.
The asteroid collided with Nemesis, and Whilti was badly injured. River was smart enough to lay in a course back to the Space Station while Whilti was unconscious. When Whilti woke up, she was in the sickbay of the Space Station. Her ship had been repaired, and River had filed a report to change the repairs the Allegiance had made that had almost killed Whilti.
The Alien was taken care of by an Allegiance doctor named Segarl. Almost instantly, the two became friends. Even when Whilti returned to her regular transport missions, she tried to keep in touch with him. That was when Whilti found out the Allegiance had refused River's report to make the changes to her ship.
Even though Whilti was outraged, she continued her transport missions, and didn't protest against the new government. That is, until she heard of the raid on Krawk Island. She disregarded Segarl's warnings and hacked into the Allegiance's computer records to see if her father was on the list of the dead. The Allegiance found out and asked her, along with a whole fleet of ships, to travel through the asteroid belt again. Whilti refused to be put in that situation for a second time, and she knew the other ships's chances of survival weren't any better than her's.
That was when Whilti heard of a group of rebels, who were against the Allegiance. On the trip to the asteroid belt, Whilti broke away at the last minute and escaped to Kreludor. That was where she met Niccaru, the captain of a ship of the rebels Whilti had heard about. Niccaru called them the Dissent. Whilti asked to join his crew, and he agreed, making her the Independence's mechanic.
While Whilti knows she could never truly fight against the Allegiance, since they had given her a job and the doctor who had been so kind to her was with them, she works as the mechanic on Niccaru's ship with River, and later her Snailien whom she found crawling around in the Dissent ship engineering docks.
