Introduction

Aparently a moon-lit walk on a sandy beach sounded like a good idea at the time, because here you are, on a strange, sandy beach with waves lapping against your feet. Perfect. You look to the sky, trying to find some hope, but rain begins to fall; light at first, but then getting heavier and heavier untill you just have to get out of it. Seeing a cave at the other end of the beach, you begin to run towards it, hoping to get out of the rain quickly. As soon as you get there you walk deep into the cave, sitting down and thinking you'll never be able to get home in this weather or at this late hour. Stretching your arms, you prepare to sleep in the cave when your fingertips brush against something... furry? No, that can't be right. You look over your shoulder to see a pair or curious hazel eyes staring back at you. Screaming, you jump to your feet and begin to run, backwards, toward the exit of the cave. About halfway, you trip over a rock and fall with a loud thud to the ground. The eyes had followed you the whole way, however, and now, in the faded moonlight, you can see they belong to a small female feline with long, thin, dog-like legs and smooth, dark grey fur. Her black markings and bobbed tail make her look like something from a nightmare.
."Are you okay? That was quite a fall. Let me help you up," she says and offers her paw to you, her voice light and sweet.
."Who are you and are you going to eat me?!" you half say, half scream, not moving.
."Of course I won't eat you! I'm Lilly, and this is where I live."
Your fear has sort of left by now, so you grasp her paw and she pulls you to your feet.
."I'm guest, and I was just trying to get some shelter..," you say, looking down at the ground.
."Well, you can spend the night here, I don't mind," Lilly replies. "As long as you don't mind me staying here to, and you're willing to leanr about me."
."Erm... okay?" you reply. How bad could this be? Her eyes light up with joy when you say "yes".
."Oh, yay!" she says, estatic. Grabbing you by the shirt collar, she drags you back deeper into the cave and sits you on a rock. She spins around in a circle and tries to lay down all in down motion, but just ends up tripping and falling. Clearly she doesn't have the usual feline grace. Now picking herself up off the ground and lying down, she says, "Well, I guess I'll begin then..."

Story

."I was born to a loner, with three other siblings. I don't remember much about them or my mother. All I remember was always wanting to leave the boring little forest where she raised us. I had always been drawn to the rivers and streams she would teach us to hunt by, and often times I'd end up bringing back fish instead of other prey like she wanted us to. I didn't exactly get in trouble, but she did think that there was something strange about me. As time passed my siblings and I grew. They decided to stay with our mother for a while longer after they had grown to adulthood, but I wanted something else. Adventure, excitement. I was the first to leave. My mother and siblings didn't want me to leave, but they respected my decision and the day after I decided it was time for me to go, I left at dawn after a brief good-bye. Little did I know something was following me in the trees.

."Much of my travels were boring, nothing exciting about them. I traveled for a long time, not finding anything that suited my interest. Until I found a small, abandoned human town. Curiously, I investigated the place. After investigating what appeared to be a human dwelling, I walked outside to see a large male kougra before me.
."'Lilly… I have watched you for a long time,' he began.
."'How about telling me who you are?' I said demandingly.
."'Someone who doesn't think you should live', he growled.
."Before I knew it, I was fighting him for my life. But it all happened so quick. Pulling myself off the ground, the male kougra smiled and left. I couldn't understand why. Until I looked down. There my body lay, crumpled and bleeding. A yowl of terror escaped me, but the body still just laid there, cold and unmoving. I realized I must be a ghost. And that I was. A ghost with a strange appearance, unable to be seen or heard by the living. And so I ran away from that town, never knowing why I was killed. Why? Why was this world so cruel? Why hadn't I gone to the other side? My question was soon answered after a brief, few months of being a ghost. A spirit appeared before me, telling me I still had a purpose to serve on this earth. And it granted me a new body, a new life. Now I was a gray kougra, and I left on this earth once more.

."After a long time of wandering, trying to find my purpose, I came to this beach. I haven't been able to leave since, and so I am waiting to find this purpose I have to serve. Who knows? Maybe the purpose is just for me to live. And for right now, all I can do is wait. Later I found who my killer was, the only survivour of my mother's old group. He killed me hoping to hurt my mother, even though she tried to warn them before."

Friends

Kaede
."Kaede... I really haven't known her long. She came across my beach one day and we just talked. Then I showed her how to swim and fish. She's a very fun kougress to be around."

Tora
."Tora's a big sweetheart! He's very nice and easy to get along with. He was another who stumbled across my beach. He's just such a good guy."

Love

Tora
."Tora is just such a big sweet guy... it would be difficult not to love him! I'd go anywhere with him, do anything for him. And I know he feels the same way about me. He took be to this beautiful place with a waterfall and it was just so amazing! I never thought anyone could possibly like me the way he does... it was just so surprising! I guess I never really considered the possibility that he could have loved me before he told me. But now I know and he knows I love him, too, and everything's just perfect!"

Adopted

."None yet..."

."Wow! This picture is amazing! Thank you soo much, Dark_Navi2! I love it!! My very first fanart!" The kougra smiles so big, you wonder how she's doing it. Huh. She must be very pleased with this picture!

Awards

."Alas, I don't have any of these either."

Farewell

After hearing all that the kougra has to say, you find yourself fast asleep, your head rested on her silky paws. When you wake in the morning, you find yourself alone again, and a magic scrap of fabric in the kougra's place. Thinking about Lilly and last night, and after deciding to either take the fabric or leave it, you smile and walk out of the cave, heading home. Or, to another grand adventure.

Lyrics

Petlookup

Take this pink ribbon off my eyes
I'm exposed, and it's no big surprise
Don't you think I know exactly where I stand
This world is forcing me to hold your hand

Cause I'm just a girl, little ol' me
Don't let me out of your sight
I'm just a girl, all pretty and petite
So don't let me have any rights
Oh... I've had it up to here

The moment that I step outside
So many reasons for me to run and hide
I can't do the little things I hold so dear
Cause it's all those little things that I fear

Cause I'm just a girl, I'd rather not be
Cause they won't let me drive late at night
I'm just a girl, guess I'm some kind of freak
Cause they all sit and stare with their eyes
I'm just a girl, take a good look at me
Just your typical prototype
Oh... I've had it up to here
Oh... am I making myself clear?

I'm just a girl
I'm just a girl in the world...
That's all that you'll let me be

I'm just a girl living in captivity
Your rule of thumb makes me worry some
I'm just a girl, what's my destiny?
What I've succumbed to is making me numb
I'm just a girl, my apologies
What I've become is so burdensome
I'm just a girl, lucky me
Twiddle-dum, there's no comparison

Oh... I've had it up to...
Oh... I've had it up to...
Oh... I've had it up to here
