Hurtling down a steep and snowy hill, I mangaged to escape the terrible torcher that had awaited me. I cantered off down the hill and out into the abandoned plains, my herd charging after me. I was one of the weak stallions that was thrown at the bottom of the herd to please the strongest and to slave for the mares and yearlings. Never was I respected or treated as an equal horse. Not until I met Nilania. She was one of the herds most beautiful mares. With her standoffish attitude, she hadn't many friends. It was when I was young and was in charge of the yearlings for a while that she noticed me. Her eyes glittered and her forelock whisped in the wind. I couldn't help but be captured by her elegance. I began to walk only to clumbsily fall head over heels and land on my back. Nilania trotted over to me and nuzzled me.

I didn't grow much form or muscle since I was a colt, but I did grow more wisdom. Nilania had vowed to be my mate and we travled with the herd together. She begged the lead Stallion for me to move up to a higher placement in the herd, but he refused, and I had no trouble with that. I was happy with my place, but Nilania wasn't. Little did we both know that Nilania's boldness would cost her, her life.

You see, one day, as most stories begin, she was tying to convince the lead stallion to change my rank in the herd. He stressed his answer, no, but she wouldn't let up. He finally blew his top and stated that she would be killed for her lack of misunderstanding. I couldn't believe what I was hearing! IT couldnt of been true.

The drums pounded and the herd whinnied and nickerd and reared. I was petrifyed for her. Why had she made the mistake that she made? The lead stallion was leading Nilania to the fire. Not that he was going to burn her...no, he was going to do much worse. He tied her down with the help of his companions. She made now effort to try and escape. She knew what she was dying for, she was dying for me. I couldn't help but shed tears at the sight of her tide down. The leade stallion took an axe in his mouth and swung. I turned my head, I couldn't look.

I moved on to bigger and better lands. I found a new herd, The Dawn Herd, and well, let's just say that things are much better than they were when I was in my other herd. My life is good, so far. One thing that will always be true is that scottish blood runs through my veins and I will alwasy remain a free spirit.

    Yes..I do have one friend to mention. His name is Prince Bader and let me tell you, he is one of the nicest friends I have ever met. He was a real prince of a royal family, the Badgers, but was sadly banned for a crime that he did not committ. I feel proud to call Prince Badger my friend. With his selfless acts of courage and bravery, he is what makes a friend worth having.
