Better Than You is a weekly game challenge. Each week, a Neopian character challenges you to beat their score at a particular Neopian game. If you are able to beat their score, you have the chance to win neopoints, a prize and an avatar.

How To Play

The current BTY game and required score can be found on the BTY page. You don't need to do anything special to "enter" the challenge, just play the game and submit your score as usual. If you win you will receive a neomail, and your prize, neopoints and avatar will be awarded automatically.
Some important points:
• To win you must BEAT (not just match) the BTY score.
• Your score will only count if it's one of your 3 daily sends.

A new BTY challenge will begin each Wednesday when the New Features is updated. There is no set time of day when this happens. Usually it will be in the afternoon (NST time), but it could be very late in the morning or late in the evening. Once the challenge begins, it will continue until the following Wednesday, or until 500 people have beaten the challenge - whichever happens first.

Please note: The official BTY rules page says that a new BTY starts on Thursday each week. This is because when it is announced in the New Features, the BTY is listed in Thursday's news - but Thursday's news is actually posted on Wednesday (NST time), so the BTY challenge actually begins on Wednesday each week.

BTY Prizes

Anyone who beats the required BTY score will receive neopoints and an item prize. The item prize is different each week and is usually related to the game being played. Many of the past item prizes are listed in the Past Challenger Archive below. The amount of neopoints you win depends on how quickly you beat the score after the new BTY is announced - the first 10 people win 20,000 NP each, winners 11-50 earn 10,000 NP each, and the remaining winners receive 3,000 NP each.

BTY Avatar

Playing BTY can earn you this avatar. To get the avatar, all you have to do is be one of the first 500 people to beat any BTY challenger - this means that everybody who wins a BTY challenge will win the avatar. Having trouble winning? Check out the tips section below...

BTY Trophies

Everyone who beats the required BTY score will be awarded a trophy:
• Winners 1-10 earn a Gold trophy;
• Winners 11-50 earn a Silver trophy;
• Winners 51-500 earn a bronze trophy.
You are eligible to upgrade your trophy if you beat another BTY challenge:
  • If you have a Bronze trophy and win a BTY in a Silver position, your trophy will change to Silver;
  • If you have either a Silver or Bronze trophy and win a BTY in a Gold position, your trophy will change to 2xGold;
  • If you already have a Gold trophy and win a BTY in a Gold position again, you will gain an extra xGold on your trophy - for example, if you have 2xGold and win Gold again, your trophy will change to 3xGold.
In the past, it was also possible for winners 501-5000 to win a Runner-Up medal. As far as I'm aware, it is no longer possible to win this medal - if you win one, be sure to neomail me! If you already have a Runner-Up medal and win another BTY, your medal will be replaced with whichever trophy you win.

BTY Tips

If you are having trouble earning the BTY avatar or upgrading your BTY trophy, here are a few tips that might help:

• If you are trying to improve your score in the BTY game, see if you can find any guides. The first place you look should be Garmfay's Game Guide Directory: http://www.neopets.com/~My_First_Little_Pony. It is also a good idea to ask for tips on the Neoboards (Games Chat), but please be aware that Games Chat is very slow and it might take a few hours to get a response - so you will need to be patient.

• If you're not very good at games, the first week of the month is your best chance to earn the avatar. It is usually much easier to beat BTY challenges earlier in the month because the BTY score for a game is roughly based off the current high score table for that game.

• Your best chance to upgrade your trophy is to be online when the new BTY is released, or very soon after. The gold trophy spots usually fill up very fast so if you can't be online at that time it's almost impossible to get a gold trophy. If you arrive late, you might still be able to get silver (depending on how difficult the BTY score is), but more than likely you will only be eligible for bronze.

• If it's Wednesday afternoon and the new challenge isn't up yet, see if you can find a BTY thread on the Games Chat boards. You will often find experienced BTY'ers chatting and speculating about what the next BTY might be - feel free to join us and maybe you can pick up a few more tips! (:

Who's Better Than You?

Unlike the Lenny Conundrum, there is currently no official high score table that lists who has the most xChampion on their BTY trophy. So until TNT makes an official high score list, I've attempted to make one myself. The list below contains every user I have been able to find with 10xChampion or better on their BTY trophy. If you know of someone else who should be added, please neomail me and let me know. If your name is listed and you would prefer to be anonymous, just neomail me and I will hide your name from the list.
