9-9-9 the Day of the Draiks
Hi! I'm glad to be here talking to anyone and everyone who wants to know the answer to this question:
How, why/why not can you get Draiks on Draik day. - Betsyknarr
Draiks cannot be adopted in the normal way, so we can't just release more of them. You create a Draik by hatching a Draik Egg. We have lowered the rarity of Draik Eggs slightly, so you should get more of them in the shops, this is just a temporary thing, they will go back up after Draik Day :)
This was taken from Neopian Times Editorial Issue 207.
However, on Draik day 2009, around 2,200 Draiks were released into Create a Pet. The releases were very fast compared to other pet days, with all three within the space of 35 minutes, and there was severe lag on the neoboards in particular for a lot of the morning as Neopians refreshed to see if more were released.
Like a lot of people, when I saw the first topic on the charter neoboard, I didn't believe it one bit, but the sudden increase in 0 hour old Draiks made me decide to pound my lab pet, and try sitting in create a pet *blushes*
Luckilly, I was able to catch the third (and final) release of the day, and Voldemoor was created!
Draik Release Times
1st release: 6:19am NST 9-9-09
2nd release: 6:29am NST 9-9-09
3rd release: 6:50am NST 9-9-09
As of 10th September 2009, that leaves the Draik as 53rd in the Neopet Popularity list, with 15,001 created (out of 15,000). This number counts the total number of Draiks created through Create a Pet, and also those hatched from Draik Eggs.
The first two times are based on the times of boards created to say the Draiks were creatable, and the third is totally accurate
A Glitch.... or was it the Meepits?
On September 11th 2009, TNT confirmed that it was in fact a glitch that Draiks had been released, but that they had decided to not remove the ones that had been created during those releases (thank goodness!)
Howdy, TNT! This is my first time submitting a question to the Editorial, so I'm a bit nervous! Anyway, it seems that on September 9th, 2009 at the hour of 6:00 AM (NST), Draiks were released for creation through "Create a Pet." This caused an obvious uproar within the Neopian community. My question is as follows: was the release of the Draiks an accident or intentional? A lot of people are wondering. Everyone has tried to come up with their own theories, but I'd love to have TNT explain the whole situation. ~tamstari
We could blame this one on the Meepits, but honestly it seems like this was a glitch on our part. It was one of those horrific, blurry-eyed early morning moments when support suddenly asked, "Why are Draiks being released?" promptly followed by us flailing around and stopping it A.S.A.P. We talked about the matter and decided not to remove the created Draiks, as we were hoping some good would come out of it and the price of Draik morphers and eggs would take a dip (not to mention the technical disaster and emotional trauma we would cause by taking away everyone's new Neopets). We're very sorry to anyone who sat there refreshing for more, or recently dropped a cool 10 mil on a Draik and felt a little cheated. But hey, at least it made the day exciting... right? ._.

This petpage was created by Paddy (dragonsflame_uk) using the basic layout coding from a Sunnyneo premade gallery. Paddy drew the image of Voldemoor, and also converted the layout to work as a petpage :)
