A Place to Rest...

You trudge through the mass of waving palm trees, feeling the warm sand between your feet. The Mystery Island festivities have been outrageously fun, but now you think it would be nice to simply relax in a nice, secluded spot on the beach. You just have to find a nice, secluded spot on the beach.
The long path between the trees forks in several places, and soon you have simply no idea where you are. You only hope the road doesn't lead you to a pack of ravenous lupes. Suddenly, you can hear the waves crashing against rocks, and then just as soon you have broken out of the copse of trees and into a tiny beach, blocked off from the main tourist's location. Yet you are not alone.
Sitting in front of you, serene and breathtaking, is what looks like a faerie uni. Yet at the same time she is unlike any faerie uni you have ever seen. Her coat gleams pure white, and her silver mane shines in the moonlight. Her wings are a delicate, palest blue, as well as her spiraling horn that grows to the heavens. Suddenly, the mare gives a little shudder and turns to you, with a pained, questioning look. Then, she smiles.
,"Ah," she says. Her voice is soft and kind, "I didn't think anyone would find me here. But, since it seems you have, do sit down." She points her snout toward a little rock quite near her. You sit. "Well, I might as well introduce myself. My name is Vereida, Feeler of Souls." You give her a questioning look. Vereida merely shakes her head. "All in due time. What is your name, new friend?" You tell her. "Ah, guest? A lovely name. You seem like a most amiable person." Although she smiles at you, she still looks hurt. Her eyes aren't happy. You ask what's wrong. "Wrong? Oh, nothing, nothing at all...well, that's a lie. Everything is wrong, but I don't quite...know how..." she looks at you curiously, "Would you like to hear my story, traveller?" You nod. "All right then," Vereida decides, "We begin." You listen.

A Curse, A Gift

Vereida considers you for a moment, her head cocked to one side. She opens her mouth as if to speak, then shakes her silver mane.
No, it would be too long to tell you the whole thing. A summary should suffice, I think." She recites to you a poem.

Come in, come in, I bid you.
Please come and rest with me.
I ask you to sit by me,
And keep me company.
To you I'm just a uni,
But be careful what you see.
Come in, come in, I bid you.
Please come and rest with me.

Would you like to hear my tale, new friend?
Do you want to read my story?
I warn you that it may be sad,
But never is it gory.
It starts with a plain mare, smart and sweet,
She always had good manners.
She read, behaved, and made good friends
And always was a planner.

Then one day a new wind blew.
A faerie had a quest,
And I did search the yonder blue.
I did my very best.
I looked all day, I looked all night
To find her precious object.
I almost gave up the impossible plight,
But that faerie I did so respect.

Finally then, I did succeed;
I gave the girl her gift.
Then in joy, the faerie decreed
My spirits she should lift.
She clapped her hands in epic glee;
The magic swelled about.
Yet then I was in agony.
The magic I did doubt.

And now my friend, I have discovered
The secret of her spell.
My own emotions are all covered
While I feel the whole world's Hell.
I feel the anger, pain, and sorrow
Of those all around me.
I do not look forward to tomorrow,
For pain is all that I see.

And though I started with regret,
Although I felt it was a burden,
Now I feel no love, I feel no shame
A curse, a gift, it's all the same.

Vereida falls silent, staring fixedly at the silver crescent moon. You stare at her, trying to understand, appalled at the story she has just told you. Could it really be true? Could she really be forced to experience the emotions of everyone around her. You think it must be true. her silvery eyes look older then her years. A great pity wells up inside you.
No sooner does the emotion well up inside you then Vereida's eyes grow sad.
."Please," she asks quietly, "Do not pity me. I don't think I can bear it." She lies in the sand. "It doesn't really need to be pitied now, anyway. I have come to terms with it. That's why I look like this, you know." She shakes out her silver mane. "A combination of the faerie's magic and the shock changed my appearance completely. I used to look like any other faerie uni. And this," she says, turning her head so you can see the blue crescent moon emblazoned on her cheek, "This is a mark of my gift...my curse. Who knows, anymore?"
The pair of you sit there in silence for a moment. You try to make everything she has said make sense in your mind.
."You are still confused?" Vereida asks, "Well, I suppose you really don't have all the pieces. Tell me, have you ever received a quest from the Library Faerie?" You shake your head, more confused then ever. "Well, I would be why," she tells you with a pained laugh. "She was the one who gave me my quest. It was for a certain Qasalan spell book, very rare, very powerful. I found it for her, and she rewarded me with what she thought was a gift. Naturally Fyora was furious. The Library Faerie sticks to her crosswords now."
You are appalled that any faerie would do such a thing to a Neopet. Yet there is still one more part of the story left.
."Yes, you want to know how I came here. Well, after I received my blessing, I wandered around aimlessly for days. The pain was unbearable. You wouldn't believe how much sorrow and anger and misery are in the world. It was simply...." Her eyes glaze over with the memory, "....simply awful. I have no way to describe it to you. But then, someone found me." Her eyes light up a bit, the bad memories soothed. "A girl named Lila. She found me in the Healing Springs, half-drowned in my attempt to ease the pain. Lila was wonderfully kind to me; she took me in and made me a part of her family. She helped me cope with all the feelings and she helped me find my love of books." Vereida's face really starts glowing. "Oh, I adore books. I can escape into them. I can find a quiet chair and fall into a world and story that are not my own. It's the only time I ever feel alone..." She smiles at you. "Enough of my back story. You seem like a good soul, I will tell you much more about myself."

My Family

Photobucket

This is my mother, Lila. You probably know her as uniuniuni777117. She is incredibly kind and caring. She rescued me at my worst moment and raised me as her own. She loves books as much as I do, and I love her with all my heart.

My sister, Ahnyra, was once a princess of a great land. However, a family fued led to her exile, and she was taken in by my mother. She is now in hiding, waiting to take her throne back. It is hard to live around Ahnyra, as she is full of pettiness and vengefulness. However, she does have a nobler, kinder side, which is why I love her. She holds the brand of beauty.

My sister Bloom is headstrong and independent. She knows that she is powerful and enjoys fighting and adventure. I enjoy feeling her mind, as it is very strong and joyful. She holds the brand of strength.

Belabeth is possibly my favorite sister. She is not a uni, so she bears no brand, but she is the one who helps me most in my moments of pain. Belabeth is a mute, so she adds no loudness to my inner turmoil. She also has the kindest, purest soul of any Neopet I have ever met. Her pure goodness helps drown out all the bad feelings. Were she a uni, she would certainly be worthy of the brand of kindness.
