6/11/05 - New layout! :D Ooo, shiny...
5/6/05 - You know Hissies are always right? You better believe it, I told Maivry she would give me a petpage by May 7th, and guess what day it is? May 6th. Yup, she couldn't take the petpagial pressure.
Last updated - 7/11/2007

[So, what is this page going to be about, you ask? Well, about Maivry, of course! Yes, if you want to learn about her, this is the place to be! If you just want to neomail her, go to her FAQ. o.o

Wow, this place is so empty. She better give me a cool layout soon.

What? You want content first? Pfft.

I'll take over now, Vebrin, thank you very much]

How the Avatar Addiction Began
In my "newbie" days, avatars did not exist. Somehow I found things to do all day, but I eventually lost interest after a few months, and so my account was completely inactive for about half a year. Then, in late September 2003, I finally logged in one day, checked the news and saw that DoN had a new challenger. I clicked on the link and suddenly I got a random event that said, "Something Has Happened!
You are now eligible to use 'Defenders of Neopia - Aisha' as an avatar on the NeoBoards"

Excited and clueless about what an avatar may be, I searched around to find out. Thus I learned about avatars and secret avatars. I searched them on Google and found avatar help sites. I easily got 20 avatars, and I was interested in getting more. Eventually I ran out of the easy ones and needed to go on to ones that were not just buy an item and easily resell it, and such. I tried Bilge Dice, after they made it unrefreshable, and surprisingly got Lucky Streak! Not too long after that I started going to the Neoboards consistantly, before I had only lurked the Volcano Mystery boards. (Unfortunately after I had a chance at freeing Jhuidah.) I had no idea I had a very rare avatar, and I didn't know for a while.

At first I was in the game chats for a week or two, but I didn't talk much, mostly lurking... Usually it was things I was totally uninterested in. Eventually I was drawn to the avatar chat, as that was why I was on any of the boards, afterall. I played Avatar Simon Says, or watched them, rather. I won a couple, but I still had less than 40 avatars, at that point.

Around that time I stumbled upon an avatar chat group. (THE original, unfaddy one. This was January 2004, after all. :P If you want to know more about it, you have to look at Talin's petpage.)
With my new-found friends' help, I found more to do and achieved more in avatar collecting. I still remember when a friend practically threatened me to get the avatar collector's av by the next month. xD Of course, I failed miserably. It took 11 months. :P

I've had sprees and stalls in avatar collecting. Since 200 or so I've been in one of the stalls. Yes, you heard me right. At the time of this writing I have 299. xD

--

And that's all you get for my general avatar story. :P Now it's time for specific avatars that harbor special memories... :) You'll probably bore your brains out reading this next section, but you could just look at avatars that you have a special interest in yourself.

Order of achievement.

Avatars Stories
Lucky Streak - Ah! What a great avatar to start with. This is my official main avatar, as I use it the most. It's pretty special to me, since I was so lucky. ^_^ A week or two after it was released I tried my hand at Bilge Dice, going for both avatars, and I actually got it after about two hours of playing. :o I was so happy. :D Ironically Bilge Dice 24 took much longer to get. :P

MSPP - Muahaha! Not too special to me, but I got it when it was cheap. 0:-)

Sloth! - My first avatar after I started chatting in the AC. :) (I lurked before, but at this point I actually chatted...)

Grarrl Warrior - With the help of several friends, we all got this avatar after it was unexpectantly sighted on the trading post. :D Back when it was a lot harder to find, but also much cheaper.

Chocolate - Hehe, I had been trying for this one for some time. The Chocolate Factory was my home ground for a while. :)

Gruslen - I made a fool of myself by borrowing an aged gruslen from a friend, and then transferring it back before even getting it. xD I was lent again, by someone else I believe, but it's so funny. xD It also was the first pet avatar I owned myself, though I didn't actually get it from my own pet. :/ Silly me.

Squished Spyder - The avatar that got me in the top 200 for the first time! :D Before it was only the top 100, obviously... Unfortunately, my stay on the highscore board was very short-lived, as I didn't get Darigan Redeemed...

Faerie Queen Doll - Shortly after I heard how to get the avatar, I towered a FQD, and what a mistake that was. Normally I don't buy things impulsively, but I wanted to lend to people. And that is exactly what I did, as I lent it to most of my guild members. :) Unfortunately, since auctions were down when it was released, I sold it for a very low price. :( I didn't even get half my NP back. But I learned something, in the process.

Magax Destroyer - Who knows how long I practiced, but I went from approx. 700 points to 2800 in a couple weeks. But I couldn't get the avatar because I didn't know how to avoid the invisible enemy glitch. Then a friend told me, and I was soon dancing with joy after recieving it. :D Literally. :P

Meerouladen - Thanks to a friend who lent me his weapons, I just managed to beat them and got my favorite of the two avatars. :D

Buzzin' - Due to sheer stupidity, or maybe it was just ignorance (or irony? Or all three,) I had rejected a FFQ not too long before Buzzin' was released. So, I was quite pleased when I finally got the chance to use an FFQ. :)

Dubloon Disaster - Evil, tiresome game. I had to get the score again because the first time I tried to send Neo was down. x.x

HatPC - I had been wanting this avatar for a long time. :D I was just disappointed you didn't have to beat the game to get it.

BTY - I wanted this one for so long, it was terribly elusive. ^_^ But then they released it for a game I had never played before, yet I have played a non-Neo game quite like it. :P I just managed to get the score, and I had enough time since it's one of those games where it's easy to get a high-ish score, but not so much after a certain point. ToyBox Escape

Seasonal Attack Pea - I had grumbled for so long about this avatar. I missed it the first time around, as I had a four day long power outage at the time. x.x It was the only "limited edition" avatar I didn't have, and my nickname is Peapod. So I was overjoyed when they rereleased it. ^_^ Except that marked the rereleasing of all the other "limited edition" avatars. :P

Avatar Collector - I hadn't planned to get it, it was the first reset of 2005, January 1st. I was just going after Freaked Korbat, which I was certain I would get as I finally sent my score for it at 4 AM NST. But when I checked my chat prefs the first thing I saw was Avatar Collector, since trophies and avatars are given out at different seconds, as I discovered. :P I was overjoyed because I finally got it, and then disappointed because I wanted to get it without the help of a reset. Oh well.

Advert Attack - Another game avatar I was hoping for. ^^ Unfortunately I wanted 500†, as that was the best I could do, and I had discovered it's very hard to improve your score in this game. =/ Miraculously my lucky game came, and I passed the round I usually lost, earning just enough to get the avatar. ^_^

Ice Cream Machine - Yet another game avatar I was hoping for. :P I liked the game so much I practiced a whole lot before the avatar was released. I soon mastered level 10, and then they released the other three levels, which I soon got past, but I still haven't mastered them. But, I got it when it was rare, and I was quite pleased. ^_^ Until everyone started cheating to get it, and the trophy. :K Then TNT made that cheat impossible, and I could get the trophy and have a naturally good score. :D

Super Attack Pea - Peapod's my nickname, so I was dying to have this avatar. ;) Eventually I got my own pea chia, but I never could find anyone who would lend me a SuAP. :( So, I was just commenting (fine, complaining *Coughs*) about being left out from lending when a friend got the avatar. :P Out of the blue, I got a neomail from the lender, and he offered to lend without even knowing anything about me. I'm still estatic. ^_^

Random Contest - Ah, what a sought after avatar. I entered occasionally, as I couldn't enter a lot, but I was losing hope, since I never won and they were just getting harder to enter. My best hope was the Maraquan Caption Contest one, but I never recieved a neomail telling me I won third place (as I didn't notice if anyone had gotten their prizes from that contest yet, so I tried to be optimistic) To my shock, though, just as I was truly losing hope, I got a neomail telling me I won third place in that very contest. Just imagine how happy I was. :P

Ghost Krawk - Before this avatar, I'm sorry to say, I borrowed all of the avatar pets. (Someday I'll lend some, promise x.x) So, I was very pleased that my favorite pet helped me get an avatar, and it's probably going to be one of the rarest pet avatars ever. ;)

Pinata - I tried for a while to RS them, but it was really discouraging. :P I had some friends who were RSing them, so I was kind of hanging out for one of those, because they're so generous. xD (I was saving up for one) Sooo, finally another friend RSed one, and he didn't even have the av. But, he knew I was trying to get 200 avatars, and I was at 199. :D He just gave it to me, and I was so happy. *Hugs him again*

DoM II - Shortly after its release I was being driven mad practicing. Eventually I got within 100 points of the avatar, and things went downhill. I stopped practicing, and only did whenever I figured I was mad enough. Even when I discovered an exceedingly useful game code, I couldn't get it. During that time, this avatar became the one I hated the most. That's all changed now. :)

Brightvale - Ho, how unexpected! I've been waiting to take WoK off my daily list, and getting a rare avatar in the process pleases me well. ^_~ *Refrains from laughing insanely*

Space Faerie - After, let's see, at least two years, my pet was good enough to beat the Space Faerie. Only it wasn't my battle pet, it was my lab pet! So Allleli felt a little cheated. :P But she got her share of close wins, before Talin was strong enough. I want to thank anyone who helped me get closer to this avatar, especially weapon lenders, even if it didn't work.

Altador Cup - Staff Tourney - I've had terrible luck with past staff tournaments, but this time I seemed to have chosen wisely. Go TPOSG!

Blumaroo Court Jester - Congratulating myself on my acquisition of Evil Coconut in the course of my dailies, I went to do my last one, GoK. Then, to my complete and utter shock, I got the Jester avatar. I'd been telling the King that same old avatar joke nearly every day for over three years, and words cannot explain how happy I was to take that daily off my list.

And that's all for now for my short (or not so short) individual avatar stories. :P

And if you're wondering why I'm not telling any other type of stories, it's because there ARE no other type of stories. :P At least not enough to interest you. Well, maybe some chatting stories, but I'm keeping those to myself. *Whistles*

Well... maybe not entirely. Along with avatars, making lookups is one of my favorite activities on this site. So why don't I say something about how I started making them? Why not indeed!

How I Became a Lookup Maker
When I joined Neopets I had little idea how to code or make graphics. I was an artist, but I wasn't as good at that as I am now, either. ^^ For starters, I either had nothing on my lookup, or some text that wouldn't break apart, as I didn't even know how to add paragraphs. :P

Thanks to CSSHelp I began learning about CSS, so that was my basis in the beginning. I didn't know how half my codes worked, but I made them work. Now I can look back and see how messily I made them. xD After awhile I didn't need to constantly look at CSSHelp, eventually making a file with all the bits of codes I needed as my only reference. Unfortunately, due to a computer crash, that was lost, and for a while I was crippled. Fortunately, that made me learn to know practically all the codes I use from memory, so now I type out every part. ;D

When I first started getting interested in lookups was about the same time I first started collecting avatars, so what a time that was when I came back. My first lookup was a simple premade one, from Soup-faerie.com, I believe. Green patterned background and tables, not too interesting. I was satisfied, but interested in making one, so I could be proud of it. Eventually I started planning one out. I drew a background, an illustration of myself. The hardest part was computer coloring it, as I didn't have much of a grasp for that process yet. :P Along with a sidebar, shield, blinkie and banner, the theme would be of me and my interests. (Especially Snowickles) I still have the images, which I would reuse for old time's sake if they weren't so obsolete. (Really old sidebar)

Eventually I changed it when I randomly made a lookup of babycas. :P I saw them and just wanted to make a lookup. xD It followed the same design style, but improved because of my new experience. :P

From then I have been making better lookups, quicker, more creatively. There have been several times when I went on custom sprees, before and after I learned to make lookups compatible with multiple browsers. I used Internet Explorer as my main browser until about when glow fonts were removed, and then I happily chose Firefox as my main browser.

Originally the first lookup I tried to make work with both browsers was a simple background and table, so it wasn't much of an accomplishment. (I think I might have made it shortly after the sidebar was changed, rendering my previous lookups with sidebars obsolete, so I needed a new one.) I had that lookup for quite some time. Then the user lookup contest was released for the first time (quite proud to say my friend and fellow guildee was the first to win) and I wanted to make that push to make a lookup that would work with my now-main-browser, so I could enter.

So I drew a picture of one of my favorite pets, Royal Aisha, and turned it into a lookup. I tried to make it perfect for both my browsers, even with the scrollbar. My brain must have glitched, because I made the whole lookup one color to match the scrollbar in Firefox, and then forgot that sidebar colors can be changed by computer settings, operating systems, and what have you. :P Gah! Still, I thought it was my best lookup yet, and I entered it into the Lookup Contest.

The problem is, I made the lookup in the middle of February. I gave up for a response on June 10th, and submitted a new entry. :P My current entry, submitted February 6 2006, was held over by TNT, but since then they've changed the layout, so that's pretty hopeless.

I suppose I should be grateful, since I've turned out to find each of my ULS submissions horrible or simply unworthy. ;)

Since those early lookups, I've made many, many, lookups, with vast differences overall, trying to broaden my ability. It sounds like too much work to count how many I've made. I'm at the point where Neopet's doctype and IE's incapabilities are getting in the way. :P

When I made a lookup I titled "Fly" I started applying for lookup awards. Before I either didn't visit lookup rating boards enough, or wasn't good enough for the rater's standards, to win any awards. Now I have a decent collection, from applications and various boards. :) You can see them here.

I'm currently council in a code and browser compatibility focused guild, CSS is Poetry. ^_^ If you're interested, you can find out about it here.

Well... that wraps up this story. :P For now.

Wrapping Up
If you feel like you want to know me after reading this... well, I dunno. xD I don't accept neofriend requests unless I actually know you, which can only be done by chatting with me regularly. :P The problem with that is that I don't like chatting through neomail as a general rule. Usually I make friends on the neoboards. My presence on the boards nowadays is pretty much non-existant. You could try stopping by any CSS is Poetry guild chat boards. (Usually in the AC) But I hope you wouldn't only come because I might be there. That could be creepy. :P

So, I've given you a reason to want to be my friend (hopefully, you don't want to be my enemy, do you?) but no way to become one. xD Oops...

...

Then again, if you actually read this page, please neomail me so I don't feel like I'm talking to myself. :P

More to come when I think of something to add.
