The Wolf-Shield

A pair of eyes watch you, patient, filled with wisdom and knowledge of things all your years on earth could never teach you. They are strange eyes, gentle orbs of mismatched golden and emerald hue, set in a face marked asymmetrically black and white. The oddly marked creature takes a slow step toward you, large white paws carrying the lanky lupe into the light. Golden mooncharm rattles against white patch of fur on his deep chest, and a slow, knowing smile spreads across his muzzle--which is littered in grey, from age. A final few steps are taken toward you, dignified and belaboured due to a limp, and he lowers himself gingerly to his haunches. A scar curls across left haunch, from flank to spine; thick plume curls about, covering this old battle wound, and greying muzzle is declined to you.

I have reached the age when history has become too long and complex to tell, so old it becomes obsolete. I could sit and ponder of my long years--there has been much to consider--but I do not dwell on the past. There is but one thing I think of...my life, my past, my future, my present. Evy, the eldest, who inherited my mismatched eyes and her mother's subtle beauty...I wish only that life would treat her with the kindness she deserves.
Anz, our eldest son and a Shield like myself...I have taught him all I know, and he remains my golden-marked clone. He has had the luck to find love and happiness...I hope only that his charge does not cause him too much pain.
Seren, once the adoring idolator of her elder brother, Serendipity has grown into a troubled young adult. I cannot reach her, and I weep every night for the curse I was forced to place upon her to save the lives of three others...if only she could understand how necessary it was, what a terrible thing for me to do....
Jay, the youngest, was so innocent for so long; we hid him from the world in fear of his own powers threatening his life, and I'm afraid it has hurt him. We have allowed him his uniqueness...but I know there is a secret he does not tell me, and it pains me.

I have accumulated many friends through the years, though I have lost contact with many in recent times. I hold my friends dearly to my heart, protecting them like family. I owe so much to them...

Shadow
Shadow, my oldest friend. We met when we were but children, he saving my life after I was attacked in youth--the attack which gave me my scar. We have been together through life, death, mates, children, rejuvination. I hope he continues to stand by me after it all.

Meteor
Meteor and I have an odd relationship; I have known him practically all of my life, and have grown close to him--he's like a brother to me. Even with that, I often wonder how we keep from killing each other with our differences in views. Still, I wish him the best of luck in all he does--he is and always has been a high achiever--and I will always, ALWAYS, be there to protect him.

Taru
Taru, my newest friend, but definitely one of my closest. His happy, philisophical life has been recently torn from him due to unjust freezing, and I wish with every inch of my elderly soul that I could mend the wounds of his heart. He and his family have my love and support through it all...
