Here is my super-important information all about the lab ray!!!!

To get the lab ray, you will need to find or buy all 9 pieces of the Secret Laboratory Map. You can find them lying on the ground (yeah, good luck), or you can go to the trading post and look for lots that will sell you all 9 pieces of the map at an OK price. Or you can check the Shop Wizard and buy all the pieces individually. Make sure you keep track of which is which! They all have the same name but they look different.

Once you have all the pieces of the map, you will go to the Treasure Maps section of the Games page! Pick the Laboratory section. When you redeem your map you'll get some small amount of NP (nothing close to what you paid for it, believe me!) and then you'll see the freaky lab scientist and be given a button that will take you to the Secret Laboratory!

It's a very scary place, with thunder booming and lightning flashing and a big scary ray gun the scientist points right at you! You can only take one of your pets, once a day, but it can change your pet's colour (hooray!) or species (boo) or stats (it can make them higher or lower) or gender (argh!) Gender Help:

So yes, sometimes the lab ray will make your beloved pet the wrong gender. BUT! If it does that, don't despair! There's still hope! Follow my instructions and your pet will start speaking to you again!

Go to the page where all your pets beg you not to zap them. (No wonder they're all scared, after seeing their brother or sister get changed to a sister or brother!) Now you will refresh, until you get the Lab Ray Scientist as a challenger. Got it?

Now here's where your Battledome stats take a dive I'm afraid, but believe me, your pet will thank you! You will go to the Battledome, 1 Player section, and challenge the Lab Ray Scientist. Make sure you use your pet who's the wrong gender!

Then fight him with all you have! One of the Lab Ray Scientist's weapons is a Strange Potion, which you may or may not know, changes your pet's gender! He doesn't always use the Strange Potion right away, and if your pet is weak, he or she might get knocked out in the first hit. If that happens, don't worry...just take your pet to the Healing Springs (even if the Water Faerie only gives him/her a couple hit points back), or use a Healing Potion on him or her, and try again! Keep watching as he's fighting and wait for him to use the Strange Potion. Your pet may lose a couple fights, but eventually he or she will become the right gender again! (Once the Lab Ray Scientist changes your pet's gender, if your pet still has some hit points left, you might want to withdraw from the fight by visiting this page--it's kind of a dirty way to fight, but if you don't, the scientist might change your pet's gender again!)

I don't know how many times I got hit before I became a boy again, but it doesn't matter even a little bit. I would have let that scientist grind me into dust, as long as he made me a boy! Even if your pet is more sensitive than me, you should be able to cuddle her a bit after the fight or fights and she'll be fine.

CAPE OF THE SUN DOWN?

The Cape of the Sun used to turn your male pet into a female if you fought in the Battledome, if he was Bright or smarter. You can try changing the language but word is a programmer confirmed it was never SUPPOSED to change a pet's gender, so it doesn't seem to do that now. :( But you can certainly give it a try; at one point it seemed to work maybe 1/20 times, but I really think it's down now. It was good while it lasted.

Wait; it only turned male pets to female. It wasn't good at all!

I hope this guide helped some poor Neopets out there; the gender change trick is one of the least-known helpful things around all Neopia! I was stuck as a girl for probably a full year before Taradith learned the trick herself. (Stupid Taradith.) So spread the word!
