A seal is a mammal that can live both in and out of the water. Seals have think layers of flat, flippers for limbs and hairy coats for protection from sand and rocks. Seals are six meters long and weigh about 150 pounds. Most seals eat a variety of fish and shellfish.Every spring pregnant female seals go up on land to have their pups. It takes almost a full year for a pregnant female seal to have a pup. They have one pup each year. The adult males are called bulls.Female seals are called cows. Seals defend themselves by making loud noises or swimming away fast. Their enemies are the shark, man, and the killer whale. For years man hunted deals for their coats, blubber and meat and almost made them extinct. The United States passed a law in 1972 to stop the hunting of seals. Now you can see a lot more seals along the beaches. NO LONGER ENDANGERED
The green sea turtle is the largest hard-shelled sea turtle. The average size of a female nesting in Florida is 101.5 cm straight carapace length. Hatchling green turtles weigh about 25 g (about a handful of Smarties) and have a carapace about 50 mm long. Hatchlings are black on top and white underneath. The plastron of Atlantic green turtles remains a yellowish white throughout life, but the carapace changes colour from black to various shades of gray, green, brown and black, forming swirls and irregular patterns on their shells. ENDANGERED
Hammerhead sharks use their oddly shaped heads to improve their ability to find prey. Their wide-set eyes give them a better visual range than most other sharks. And by spreading their highly specialized sensory organs over their wide, mallet-shaped head, they can more thoroughly scan the ocean for food.
Despite their serpentine appearance, electric eels are not actually eels. Their scientific classification is closer to carp and catfish.
These are some more Sea Animals that will be coming soon.
