Intro

You know it's not called the Haunted Woods for nothing, but you hadn't imagined that it would really be this... spooky. Why couldn't dear old Granny have been buried in Faerieland or Meridell? But as you slowly open the metal gate to the graveyard, wincing as it squeals in protest, you know there isn't anything you can do about it. You look around nervously, waiting for something threatening to loom from the darkness or attack you. You shake as you clutch the flowers you brought for Granny, and then you notice it.

Two glowing green eyes peer at you from the darkness. Curse this gate, it's alerted some vile monster to your whereabouts. Four green ovals also glow vibrantly near the ground, where you assume its legs would be. Slowly, the creature approaches you. Another, equally green light appears above it, illuminating a face. No, not a face.

A skull.

The living dead have risen to greet you in this wretched graveyard. When you'd said you wanted to visit Granny, you hadn't meant face-to-face!

Screaming, you throw your bouquet at the skull, as though it might repel the thing and save your life. The floral arrangement bounces off the body of the skeleton and lands at its feet. The green lights cast the flowers in a strange glow.

Ouch! a small voice squeaks, and you shriek again. It speaks!

Why did you do that? it asks plaintively. By the voice, you assume it's a male. And it sounds hurt. You suddenly feel a little sorry for whatever this thing is. I wasn't gonna do anything, swear it!

Suddenly, the green light above the thing's head expands to light up the entire area around the two of you. Make that three of you, though, because you see that the source of the light is a Buzzler, perched upon its master's skull. And upon further inspection, you realize that the large bone isn't really the thing's head, but merely a mask over what appears to be a Bori head.

Uh... pardon me! you say nervously.

The maybe-Bori blinks, and for a moment the bright green lights of his eyes are extinguished. Oh, it's no problem, he says, and looks down at the flowers. Pawing at them - and here you realize that maybe he isn't actually a Bori, because he is lacking the characteristic claws that all Boris have - he says thoughtfully, They're quite pretty... may I keep them?

You're startled by this question, but since you still don't want to be eaten or anything, you nod mutely.

The not-really-Bori perks at this. Oh thank you, thank you! he exclaims excitedly. No one has ever given me a present before! Well, except for Mr. Flynn, but I don't think that really counts... maybe it does? I don't know. I-

He stops mid-sentence and looks up at you again, as though just realizing you're there. Excuse me, but would you happen to be interested in a cup of tea? It's been so long since I've had any visitors, and I'd really love to sit and talk with someone. Scab is my only companion, you see, and he isn't very much of a conversationalist, are you Scab? Once again, the not-really-Bori seems to forget about you as he turns green eyes on the Buzzler atop his head.

You're afraid that he will go off on another tangent, so you quickly agree. Tea sounds fine, thank you.

Oh, good! he says happily. Please, follow me! I'm sure you'll love the tea, Mr. Flynn gave it to me himself. Says it's King Hagan's favorite. And I'll tell you all about myself while we're at it too, it'll be so fun! He scoops up the flowers in his tail - which is uncannily Bori-like - and bounds away into the darkness, chattering excitedly. You hurry after the bright green lights that he and Scab leave in their wakes.

About Me

Why don't we start off with the basics? My name is Adder (Not in real life, of course. Such a pity really). I'm a 14-year-old girl living in California, USA. I have been playing Neopets for 8 years (with several hiatuses in between). I recently decided I wanted to restart, completely fresh, and so I made this account, chasingwindmills. I also kept my old account, sc0rpius so that I have more room for my beloved Neopets and I can adopt pets while this account is still too young to accept transfers.

On Neo

On Neopets, I am an artist, role player, and avatar collector (not a very avid one, though). I enjoy coming up with characters for my pets and private role playing them.
I have found that Neopets are rather hard for me to draw for some reason, but I try my best. While designing Toukere, I was glad to find that he was a lot easier to draw, hence the art section further down in this application.
As a role player, I generally only do private role plays. This is because I only want to RP with literate people. However, this also means I get more interesting story and character development for my pets.
I like to collect avatars, but since I'm restarting and am currently poor, I only collect the ones I think are especially attractive. I now spend most of my Neopoints on my pets instead of avatars.
On another note, I feel I should be honest about this: I have traded pets, and I have been frozen before. I used to trade pets for permies, but I've since stopped. Now, I want to either adopt or create my permies. As for my being frozen, it was not my fault. I'm sure you don' want to hear a sob story or an explanation of how completely innocent I am, so I'll make it short. During the third Altador Cup, while I was playing on my main account, the game had a glitch in which all the players were facing backwards. However, the game worked fine otherwise, so I played and sent my winning score. Apparently that was against the rules, and I was frozen that day. How troublesome... And that is the un-exciting story of my freezing a year ago.

Off Neo

Surprisingly, I do have a life outside Neopets. Most of my time is taken up by school, but I do manage to squeeze in some me-time. Currently, I'm teaching myself CSS. This application is a very simple example of some of the coding I've taught myself, but it's very basic and a little unimpressive. Heh...
Overall, I'm a self-taught person when it comes to any of my hobbies. In addition to coding, I've taught myself how to become a semi-good artist and writer.
I don't do very many extra-curricular activities though. I don't play any sports or instruments, although last year I was the Prop Manager for stage crew in the Junior High's musical. I'm also very interested and concerned with the natural environment, but am not extremely active.

Well, I guess that's basically me.

Why Me?

So now you know a little about me. But that doesn't necessarily mean that I'm the right owner for Toukere. What makes me stand out from the other hopeful owners who are applying?
Well, I try to keep all of my pets happy. I think that's the most important thing. I don't train them all or read them books or buy them extremely expensive toys to play with, but I take care of them in my own way. Each of my pets enjoys a specific comfort. For example: Kyal reads books when I buy them on occasion, while Versi plays with toys instead of reading. I don't usually buy him new ones, but he's happy with the Bouncy Zafara Toy and Blue Ixi Plushie he has. Both Kyal and Versi are fed when they are hungry. Toukere would receive the same treatment: food and a few of his own toys. But I'm not going to promise that I'll train him to be a great Battledome pet, or that I'll read him all the books in Neopia. I'm just promising to keep him happy.
I don't just try to keep my pets happy; I also appreciate them and love them. They get role played, have their own custom designs and stories, and are entered in the Beauty Contest. Since I've only just rejoined Neo, I don't have any proof or examples, so you'll just have to take my word for it. If that isn't enough, I understand that. I'm currently working on a petpage for Veve between school and this application, but it has yet to take form yet.

I also write comics and stories for the Neopian Times when inspiration strikes, featuring my Neopet family, but none have ever gotten in. That doesn't mean I'm giving up, though! :)
Overall, I like to think that I'm a good owner, and I can assure you that Toukere won't be excluded from my love.

Toukere: The Story

Toukere's story hasn't been fully written out yet, although the plot has been finalized. Therefore, I will give you a basic overview. I hope it isn't too terribly boring.

Toukere was created, or "born", by Versi, a scientist. Soon after his creation, he was put to work by the Lupe, mainly as an "assistant" although in reality it was more like slavery. Toukere's jobs varied, being anywhere from doing the laundry or making dinner to helping Versi in the lab or stealing equipment. Versi had been so pleased with his creation that he began a new project, so he used Toukere's abilities to his advantage as he made another life form.
However, the Lupe had done such a good job at simulating a real being that Toukere had his own personality. Unfortunately for Versi, that personality happened to be spunky and excited. Toukere's happy disposition didn't work with Versi's own, darker personality, and eventually the Lupe got fed up with the Bori's innocent and delightful antics and locked the little Toukere away. It wasn't a dungeon per say, but it may as well have been one. Toukere got neither nutrition nor checkups, and there was no light at all. His mechanics got rusted and clogged with dust, and eventually he shut down.
When Toukere was finally switched back on again, he didn't know how much time had passed or how he had come to be freed. He could see light now, and unfamiliar but friendly faces. He was told by a green canine who he later came to know as Kyal that Versi - who Toukere always called Master - had been arrested and Toukere was now free. However, the little Bori didn't know very much of anything about how to take care of himself, so Kyal decided to take him under his wing.
Kyal took Toukere to the Haunted Woods. He gave Toukere a small shack in a graveyard and charged Toukere with the job of groundskeeper for the graveyard. Toukere was delighted to have so much trust put on him, and took his job very seriously.
A few weeks into his new life at the graveyard, Toukere met a ghost who lived there. The Yurble - for that's that the ghost was - was named Veve, but Toukere much preferred to call him Vivi. The two became friends, although Veve was somewhat impatient towards Toukere's bubbly attitude towards everything, and now spend their lives in each other's company (there isn't much else to do when one is confined to a small plot of land dedicated to housing the dead).

Obviously this would all be fleshed out much more into a real story if I adopted Toukere. However, that's just the basis of his life.

However, Toukere is also very sensitive, and when he is hurt - either emotionally or physically - he becomes extremely withdrawn and frightened.

Petpet

Toukere would receive a petpet as soon as he joined the family. I have already bought his companion: a normal Buzzler. It isn't very expensive, but I think it fits with him more than any extravagant petpet ever would. Toukere's Buzzler - Scab - would be his constant companion and his best friend. Scab is described in more detail in Toukere's history.

See Scab here.

Customization

Toukere would be customized to perfection (or, what I think is perfection) if I adopted him. That isn't to say that any other applicants wouldn't customize him also, and some probably would give him more lavish and expensive items to wear than I plan to. But that isn't saying much; I don't plan on giving him articles of clothing. But to go with both his character and design, Toukere will have minimal clothing and maximum originality.
To customize Toukere, I would double paint him instead of giving him clothing. Just what do I plan to paint him? Why, Halloween of course! It may take some time - quite some time, in fact - for me to save up enough Neopoints to pay for the paint brush, but I plan to do it eventually. Then, on to the customization!
Toukere would continue to wear his Robot Bori Body Casing. However, his Tail Casing would be removed, and his Head Casing replaced with the Skull Mask from the Halloween point job.
After that, only one more thing to be added: Bori Engineer Keys. I have already purchased these, as well as a Bone Vault Background (which, yes, I know is very cheap).
That is the basic idea of what Toukere would look like, given time, if I adopted him.

Plans

I think I've already covered most of my plans for Toukere, but just for reference and so that it's perfectly clear, I'm just going to list my major goals for him here:

Change Toukere's gender (to male)
Paint him Halloween
Enter him in the Beauty Contest
Get him into the Neopian Times (whether in a comic, short story, or series)
Give him a Buzzler
Customize him
Role play him
Make him a custom petpage

Also, Toukere would be adopted onto my account sc0rpius because this account is still too young to adopt painted pets yet.

Why Toukere

You know how some people say that things just jump out at them and they can't ignore it? Well, that didn't happen with Toukere. I was browsing through NeoPound one day in search of a pet that I could really love and appreciate. Nothing seemed interesting for any of my favorite species: Lupes, Gelerts, Draiks, or Zafaras. So I started looking through the other species that I liked but didn't love: Cybunny, Eyrie, Yurble, Kougra... Bori. Bori was my last visit. I was looking at names primarily; I'm very picky with names. Toukere's name stood out to me, among some others, so I clicked on him. I looked at him: his name, his species, his color... his stats and petpet. To be honest, I wasn't that excited. Robot is not one of my favorite colors for Boris. So I exited out of the page and decided to call it a day for looking for a pet to adopt.
However, throughout the day, I found that Toukere kept sneaking back into my thoughts. At first, it was annoying. Then, I started to form a story and background - and even a design - for him. And slowly, slowly, I started to fall in love with him. Not for the pet he was, but for the character he is. He grew on me, and soon I was doodling him on my homework and on any spare papers I found lying about. I knew by that night that I needed to at least try to adopt Toukere.
So, in a nutshell, why do I want Toukere? Here are the reasons, plain and simple: his name, his character, and his sentimental value.
