Shortly after the attack, Xial's father and mother became extremely ill, and later died. Then he was on his own. At the age of eight, Xial traveled around until a kind old hedgehog let him in with her. He stayed with her for five years, until she died of old age. Xial then gathered up his stuff, and went out to search for Shon.

The only people left for Haze were Shon and Xial. After some persuading, she got them to let her tag along with them to avenge their families.
