₪ My Beginning ₪

The best place to start a story is from the very beginning,
I'll go back a little further then my beginning-

There isn't another place on earth like the sea,
with it's gentle waves rushing up the shore,
the crying of the gulls, or even it's salty smell.
For most everyone this place is paradise, an escape
from their daily life, except for those who are lucky
enough to live their themselves, and I don't mean
those who live in houses with tall leg like sticks
holding them off the sand- but those how
actually live in the sea.
Of course their are the peophins, koi, floatsams,
and several others but I'm not telling you about any
of these for there are more creatures people know less
about, such as the Lutari, my people.

For hundreds of years the Ocemirin (Oh-Sh-Mir-N) clan
lived about a quarter of a mile away from a remote island
amongst an alluring coral reef that grew off a rock
more then a mile long it was full of passage ways,
and rooms with air pockets. There under the reign of
king Orelah and queen Lilonah, my father and mother
life was good for the entire clan.

Then I was born, the first child of Orelah and Lilonah,
and the heir to the throne of Ocemirin. My full title
being, Princess Temptix Alianda of Ocemirin.

Some of my 'friends' thought I could be a snob
at times, but I don't believe them... even
if I am a little bossy at times...

I looked a lot like my mother, people would tell me,
although I had my fathers spirit. Even when I was just
a young child I understood boundaries what was right and wrong,
that and being the next and only heir to the throne
did little to my out-going and playfull personality.
I would spend all my free time playing with other lutari
my age, although we didn't have many races seeing how
when it came to them I greatly out distanced everyone for the win.
But that's not all that I did while I was growing up.

My mother and I would go for a long swim away from the reef
quite often, then we just talk with each other, chase
schools of fish and see if we could find any shells along
the sandy bottom. Together we came across some interesting
things, once I found a crab before I knew it it had taken
a hold of my nose, that wasn't very fun.
One time however
something grabbed my eye-

a long brown colored kelp of
of some sort had be caught on a rock and swayed along with
the steady currents. It was a piece of netting, my
mother explained to me after checking it out herself.
I was fascinated with the carefully woven net and asked
my mom if I could bring a piece home with me.
She wouldn't hear of it at first but finaly decided it couldn't
hurt so she cut a small pieces off with her teeth and gave
it to me. I was delighted! Before we got home I decided
to make a bracelet out of it, however when I tide it to
my right ankle it kept falling off as I swam, after pondering
for a moment my mother suggested tying it higher toward my
thigh, to my everlasting delight it worked! From then on
I had never taken it off in fear of losing it.
After all, how often do you come across netting?

₪ My gifts ₪

Before long my first birthday was fast approaching-
Of course a big gala event was planned in my honor,
and I was sure to be showered with gifts but the best gift
was one that my mother gave me the morning of my birthday
before the party. It was an 'enchanted' kelp necklace
that wouldn't go bad or ever lose it's bright green color
I was over joyed, and wore from then on.
My father gave me a gift as well, a black pearl
earring that I wear on my left ear. I was very
surprised since pearls, even black ones, are extremely
rare and are hardly found. After that I thought everything
would be perfect, but I was wrong.

₪ The Storm ₪

A little while after I went to find my mother since
it was about the time of day that we would go out swimming
when I found her however, she was in a meeting with my
father and several other officials discussing something
about pirates. Sad a left, but shortly later decided
to head out by myself. I knew the way very well and didn't
have anything to fear. I wasn't out long before the waves
slowly grew greater, of course this was no big deal to
me and I began riding the currents surprised by how fast I
could go. Not long later the sun vanished behind the clouds,
I became a slightly alarmed and decided to go back home.
But I couldn't, the currents were pulling in the opposite
direction that I needed to go. I had only been fighting
the current for a short while when the waves made a
sudden change, they went from swift to raging in a
mere matter of moments pulling me along with it I panicked.
By now I needed to go up to the surface for air, my second
mistake of the day. Just as I surfaced a wave came crashing
down on me pulling me under again, no matter how I struggled
I was no match for the fierce currents of this storm
that was my last thought before everything went black.

₪ An Unexpected Friend ₪

When I woke on the shore of a strange beach of an island
I had never seen before, by the place of the sun it was
well afternoon and I was hungry, frightened and lost.
Besides that and being battered up from the storm I was
alright, before I could think of what else to do something
caught my eye, in the distance there was something I had
only seen once before, it was a ship, and since ships
meant people maybe someone there would help me, carefully
entering the water I swam until I was near it's side.
I didn't see anyone and was about to call out to see
if anyone was there when in the blink of an eye a large
net flew over the side, before I knew what happened it
was over me, tightening it pulled me out of the water.
I fought for my life trying to get loose, it wasn't until
I was on the deck of the ship that I realised what happened.
They were pirates. This was a pirate ship. And I had
swam right up to them, I felt quite dense.

*Unhand me or else!* I shouted at the dozen or so rugged
looking pirates. Then a stout yurble gave an order,

*What'a yer waitin' for? High'tide! To th'cargo hold, wiv'her!*

I continued fighting as strong eyrie pulled be along

*Captain, I would like a word with you.* The statement
came from a well kept uni, unlike the rest, oddly he wore
a brown mask over his eyes.

*I hav't th'time Fascino.* The captain said walking away.

That was the last thing I saw before I was pulled down the
stairs that lead to the hold, after that I was bound
by my ankles and wrists and locked in what appeared to
be some sort of storage room. There were barrels filled
with who knows what and I single candle swinging over head.
I struggled with the ties for hours but they were to
tight for me to get my teeth under them.

It was well late in the evening and I had given up
hope when I heard the door handle turn. Startled I
tried at the ropes again, pulling even harder then before.

*Easy now, you don't want to draw to much attention to yourself*
The speaker was the same uni she had seen on deck earlier.

*Leave me alone.* I growled when he entered the small room.

*Listen, you want out of here, right?* He asked,
keeping his voice below a whisper.

I stared back at him, of course I wanted out of here
but what was his plan? Could this be a trick?

*Well do you?* He asked again when I didn't reply.

*Yes, I do.* I said carefully.

*Then listen.* He said, pausing for a moment he listened
before lowering his head toward me he continued.
*I can get you out of here, but not right now, we're
a long way away from any kind of land but by tomorrow
evening we should be close to a chain of islands, from there
you go east and you'll find the coastline. Tomorrow
evening I'll come back and untie you, then you need to
follow quietly behind me, got it?*

I was surprised by his plan, but what puzzled me was why
would he do this for me? So I asked. *Why do you
want to help me? What's in it for you?*

He paused a moment, I'm sure he was listening to what
was going on outside the dimlight room before he answered
*I'm not into this whole kidnapping thing.* He answered.

*But, why?* I asked again, even though it might not have been keen.

He gave me an annoyed look, *Because I'm not. Anyway
I need to go before someone notices I'm down here.*

*Hey,* I said as he turned to leave, *what's your name?*

His answer was hardly above a whisper so I nearly missed it,
*I'm called Fascino, what's yours?*

*Temptix.* I replied.

He didn't say anything more as he quietly slipped out
of the small room. I sat there up against a barrel of
pickles in the silence and pondered what had happened,
there was something about this Fascino that she couldn't
place, he was quiet and had the air of a gentleman
and he was well kept, how did he become a pirate?
With those final thoughts I drifted off into a light sleep

I awoke the next morning to the sound of stomping, pounding,
shuffling and in other words moving around on deck.
Someone somewhere, who couldn't sing a note, went over
*Yo ho, yo hooo a pirates' life fer'me!* until someone
told him to put a plank in it.
A while later I heard a pair of voices approach
*If th'order didt' come from da'capt'in I wouldt be
a doing it.* Came the first voice.

*If you don't like the captains orders then go tell him
it's not like I'll do it for you.* Came the second voice, it was Fascino.

I scooted closer to the door to hear what they were saying.

*Hey now- I've got an idea'r, you dont like swabbin' th'deck
and I dont like keepin' an eye' on de prison'er so
what 'tif we switch orders?* I couldn't help but think
how dense this pirate was.

Fascino gave a snort. *I'd rather be outside then in the
contained storage room, you know the pickle barrel spilled
when we went through that storm?*

The pirate grumbled for a minute. *Fine, I'll swab er deck
twice fer ye, if you do this fer me, jist this once?*

Fascino pondered for a minute, *Fine, just this once though.*

I quickly moved back away from the door as it slowly opened,
Fascino entered carrying a small parcel with something
in it. *Hungry at all?* he asked shutting the door behind him.

*Rather* I replied, the small window let in a clear stream
of light and I could make out his figure better. Fascino
was quite tall, well built and handsome to say the least
and I was a little intimidated.

*Here you are.* He said setting the bag down, *I'll untie
your hands so you can eat easier.*

Once he was finished I opened the pounch to find a flask
of water, although it didn't smell fresh, some kind of
biscuit and an apple, a fruit I had never seen before.

Fascino contented himself by looking through the stores
and checking the level of everything. After I moment of
silence I asked him the question that had been on my
mind since the evening before. *How did you become a pirate?*

He pretended not to hear me so I asked again this time
he turned to face me, his night blue eyes shinning through
his dark mask his glance told me to be careful, instead of
reprimanding me he said, *It was the only way I could help her.*
He said at length.

Now I was even more confused, *Who is she?* I asked.

It was a moment before he answered, *My friend, who was
kidnapped by pirates... a long time ago* There was another
moment of silence, before I could say anything else he did,
*Are you about finished?* He asked, I replied that I was
binding my wrists again he turned to leave, *I'll be back
for you tonight, be ready.* He said before he left.

The rest of the day passed without any excitement in the
storage room. I became nervious as the sun began to set
since that meant it was only a matter of hours until my
escape. It was a few hours after sunset that I became even
more nervious when Fascino didn't come. From there on
the hours passed slowly before long I decided that Fascino
had abandoned me, just then however, the handle turned slowly
and the door swung open, it was Fascino.

*Remember, follow closely and don't make a sound.*
He said as he leaned over and cut my ropes, not giving me a chance to speak.

I followed him up the stairs at the doorway to the deck
he waited and listened a minute later he moved, heading toward
the left side of the ship I followed but tripped on a
loose piece of boarding. Fascino turned around quickly
but didn't say 'Shhh!' since that would have made more noise.
Once we reached the railing he handed me a bag with a long
strap, *Take this,* He said, *it's just some supplies you might
be needed. You can rest once you reach the islands but from
there you must continue on, find the coastline as soon as
you can.* He said. Looking over the railing I saw the
small chain of islands half a mile away.

With help from the rope ladder I climbed over the rail
and planned my descent into the water.

*Go quickly.* Fascino said, glancing over his shoulder.

*Thank you, Fascino* I said before leaving, *Remind me to
thank you again, if we ever meet again that is.* I said.

*It was nothing, my little friend.* He said, turning his attention back to me.

*I hope you find your friend.* I added after I had climbed down a few steps.

At first I didn't think he'd reply, but he did,
*Thank you, and farewell.* With that he disappeared across the deck
and I climbed down slowly and silently splashed into the water
As I swam away I took one last look at the ship, noting to
never again swim up to it and wondering if I would meet up with
Fascino again.

₪ Epilogue ₪

After reaching the island chain I did as Fascino instructed,
after a short rest I continued on and in about a week found
the coastline, from there I searched for my clan...
without any luck, I've asked a great number of wanders
if they had seen any lutari but always tell me they haven't.

That's my story, how I came to this
endless wandering, and how I became lost.

Fin.

₪ Friends ₪

This is Fascino, probably one of the best
friends I'll ever have. When I was
captured by pirates after getting
caught in a storm that carried me
far from home he helped me escape. He
was a true gentleman in speech and manner
although he acted strange when I asked
him why he became a pirate...
