Hello, guest!

Hello and welcome to my blog guide! You're in the right place if you want to know how to make a blog. If not, err... Hit the back button on your browser! ^_^
First things first, a little bit of FAQ
What is a blog?
Quite simply, this, what you are reading, is a blog! You can use them for wishlists, talking about things such as yourself, TV shows, movies, ect.
Where can I put a blog?
Almost anywhere you like! Shops, Guilds, Lookups, Galleries, Pet lookups, PetPages, anywhere that you can edit HTML, you can put a blog!
Is it hard to make blogs?
Depends on the person. I don't think it's all that hard, but that's probably because I've made about a hundred blogs since I first figured out how, but someone trying it for the first time may find it challenging. Mostly, it just takes up a chunk of your time.
How many ways are there to make blogs?
Probably quite a few. I only know of two myself; the method I'm going to show you, and the method I have linked at the bottom of this page.

MS Paint Help
Since this guide only uses MS Paint, here's a guide on how to work with it.

Yes, I know it's says it's for screenies, but it'll give you a general idea of how to use certain tools.

Let's Get Started

Step 1: Finding a Template
I like to use the blogs Neopets provides as templates because they're easy to access and don't require going off Neopets and risking your account to get to. To view these blogs, click here or go from any Neopets page to shops, your shop, then Shop Blogs. The blog I will be using for a template in this example is the "Neoschool!" blog, which looks like this:

THIS IS WHERE ALL YOUR SPIFFY TEXT GOES.

Step 2: Getting the Template into a Paint Program
This is a bit more complicated than you make think. I know what you're thinking, "I just copy it right?" Well, yes, you do, but if you try to copy it directly off the page, it won't work. First you have to find the URL in the blog code. "But I can't understand codes!!" You may be saying. Well, it's simple. Just find where it says "background=" and then a URL. Like this:

Take the URL of the picture of the blog of your choosing, in this case, "http://images.neopets.com/shopblogs/neoschool.gif", and paste it into the address bar of your web browser. It should take you to a page that only shows the picture of the blog you're using for a template, like this:

Right click on the image and click "copy" then paste it into a Paint program like so:

Step 3: Customizing Your Blog
Using the square tool, , you are going to make the area in which text will appear. Click on the color you would like the border of the box your text will be in to be. Then right click on the color you would like the background of the box to be. Then, click on the square tool and select the second square under the tools buttons. Make the square where the text would normally appear in the blog you're using for a template. Depending on your template and what colors you used, it should look something like this:

Notice that the box I made is in the EXACT same place as the box on the blog was. Now for the rest of it. Use the square tool, , again, but click on the third square under the tool buttons. Now we are going to fill in the rest of the blog and get rid of the picture. Adding your own picture to your blog will be discussed later. When filling in the blog, be sure not to go over the square you already made, like so:

When you are done filling in the rest of the blog with color, it should look something like this:

Adding a border to the whole blog is recommended, but of course optional. This would be done using the line tool, , and the magnifier, .

Step 4: Adding Images and Text
First, you have to find an image you like. I suggest sticking to Neopets images, but of course, that's entirely up to you. I will be using a Baby Usul and a red button from the Usul Suspects Game.

To add a picture, right click on the image you want, and click "copy" then paste it into your blog.
(Here is that MS Paint Guide again, if you need it.)
Most images will have a white box around them when you paste them. If you look below the tool buttons, there will be two sets of squares, as shown on the left. Click the second one, and the white should disappear. Most images, even after filtering out the white, will have a white and gray outline around them. The simplest way to get rid of this is with the brush tool, , but there are many other ways, I'm sure. Given enough practice, you'll find a way that suits you best, but for now, let's keep it simple.
To add text, use the text tool, , and make a square in the general area you want the text to appear. (Note: This is not what you want to write in your blog, it is simply a message such as "Welcome!" or "Come In!" ect.) This is my finished blog:

Well, almost finished...

Step 5: Coding
You of course have to upload it to an image host site. I use photobucket, which is free, but there are more image hosting sites such and imageshack, tripod, tinypic, flyckr, and myfilestash. After uploading your image, you need to put it into blog form so you can write in it! Remember how we found the URL earlier?

Yeah, like that. Go back and copy the whole code and paste it into where you would like your blog to appear. Then find the URL and replace it with your own blog URL. When you are done it should look like this:

Wheeee! Isn't it cool? Oh, but what's this? The scroll bar doesn't match! Ewww, what an ugly green! That doesn't work at all! Now the way to fix this is to find the code for the scrollbar, which will start like this: "scrollbar-arrow-color:" and then there will be a number sign # and six numbers and/or letters. There's arrow color, track color, face color, highlight color, 3dlight color, darkshadow color, and shadow color. To edit these, delete the number sign and the six numbers/letters and replace them with the color of your choosing.

After fixing the scrollbar colors...

Yay! Now the scrollbar matches! Sometimes there's a problem of the text going over an image in the bottom of the text box. This can get EXTREMELY complicated so I suggest keeping the images out of the text box when making it, or at least keep them in the top of the text box. Fixing this requires you to find the height and width coding for the text box. Every blog's code is different, but you will see where it says "height=" and "width=" Just be sure you are changing the height and width of the text box, not the actual blog. The way to tell the difference between the two is that the height and width of a blog is usually around 300, and the text box will be less than that.

Who Has This Helped?
This blog guide has helped many people. Unfortunately I haven't quoted them all, but here are a few =)
Of course all names are left with permission. These are all direct quotes from neomails and board comments I have received. (Please note that, as some of these were written a long time ago, the blogs mentioned here may not be up anymore.
I'll work on organizing this section a little more eventually..)

Obviously, fan mail about this, or any of my other pages, is very welcome =) I always ask permission before quoting, so don't worry about that, and if you do give me permission, the exact quote will be used, no strings attached.
