Well, as a Meridellian, I am glad to answer that question. Here are 45 things to give you an idea.
1. The music for the game "Kass Basher" (formerly known as "Whack-A-Kass") is played by the Royal Buglers, who also play at tournaments, meetings, and King Skarl's speeches to the public.
2. King Skarl, when asked, declines that he is overweight, and says that there is just… more to him. (Do not ask him yourself; you might be thrown out of the castle. Luckily, he is on good terms with the Meridell All-Knighters- they will be mentioned later- and I am one of them. No, I am not bragging.)
3. Apart from Faerieland, Meridell has better singers. (No offense to anyone else.) Just go to Meridell and listen really closely.
4. The game "Double or Nothing" involves the Royal Treasury; if you win, you get money from the Treasury, and if you lose, however many Neopoints you lost goes into it. The Treasury has gotten that much larger over the years.
5. The Skeith who runs "Double or Nothing" needs to use the Treasury because he has no bank account, and no Neopoints of his own. He got King Skarl's permission.
6. The captain (and goalie) of Team Meridell for the first two Altador Cups, Sir Pollonaire Freidl, grew up on a farm in Meri Acres.
7. Freidl got into Yooyuball when he was a bugler for the Meridell army.
8. Former Team Meridell forward Vitri Sitol secretly dreams of becoming a Korbat, so he can hang from the rafters without having the blood rush to his head.
9. Meridell potatoes that have been graded "A" are actually not as tasty as grade "B", but they are a good bit more attractive.
10. King Skarl enjoys singing in the shower.
11. Yes, there is a shower big enough for King Skarl.
12. This may surprise you, but King Skarl is actually a good singer.
13. Meridellians are very superstitious. (Someone get me a four-leaf clover, quick!)
14. There are a lot of pianos in Meridell; tourists don't see all of them because they are in the castles (see #16) and the homes of the richer citizens.
15. There are two guilds (formed from groups of Neopians who gathered together in the name of friendship) that are both important to King Skarl: The Order of the Knights of Meridell (not to be confused with the knights who make up Meridell Castle's army), or KoM, and the Meridell All-Knighters, or MAK.
16. MAK and KoM have castles of their own.
17. Jeran is infamous among the Meridell All-Knighters (or MAKers) for falling into ponds.
18. Some of the Draik guards have been cloned; that is why some of them look alike (but you didn't hear that from me, okay?).
19. They used to enchant swords in Meridell, until a mishap occurred, involving an enchanted singing sword.
20. Nobody knows what that mishap was.
21. Experts believe that Cheeseroller may be related to the mishap involving a singing sword.
22. Team Meridell forward and new captain "Wizard" Windelle's favorite animal is a unicorn.
23. Oddly, he is uncomfortable around Unis and avoids socializing with them.
24. Team Meridell forwards Gregorio Maille and Fiorina keep in shape in the off-season by Cheeserolling; cheeses they win are donated to charity.
25. The Symol Hole opens to a tunnel that leads to Shenkuu.
26. The Wocky who runs "Extreme Potato Counter" is Danner's cousin's half-brother's best friend's fourth cousin. Twice removed. (Danner is a Knight, as well as Jeran's best friend. If you didn't know that, then WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU?!)
27. King Skarl accidentally ate a giant marrow- one used in "Guess the Weight". Not only were the farmers emotionally scarred, but King Skarl had indigestion for the next year! More importantly, however, that was what caused him to look the way he does now.
28. Several years ago, some rebels created "Whack-A-Skarl". When His Majesty found out… let me say that it was not pretty.
29. Since Year 9, all Jesters in Meridell have been required by law to wear blue. (You don't want to know why.)
30. If you want to know where all the dung in "Pick Your Own" comes from, take a good look at the Gelert who greets you…
31. Also note the absence of an outhouse…
32. Much of Brightvale's fruit is actually grown in Meridell; Brightvale shopkeepers just take all the credit.
33. Meridell's river, which contributes to the Castle's moat, is called Hope River. It flows into the mountains in the distance, past Brightvale, and into the sea.
34. The Turtum who runs "Ultimate Bullseye" started out in the Ye Olde Petpet Shoppe. When he showed finesse at aiming things, the shopkeeper released him to the Meridell army, so he could help train archers.
35. The Ye Olde Petpets shopkeeper's name is Nanci.
36. Some Meridellians have been known to slap each other with random items for no reason at all.
37. The MAKers and KoMers (an abbreviation in reference to the Knights of Meridell) welcome everyone, no matter where they are from, into their castles. Meridellians are friendly that way.
38. Meridellians speak properly, no matter what Brightvale scholars say.
39. Lord Darigan and King Skarl are on good terms. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.
40. Turmaculus has a lot of Petpetpets that come and clean his teeth between his meals.
41. Plate mail is not the only type of armor Meridell Knights wear, though it is preferred.
42. The library in Meridell castle is a cover-up. No one knows what it is for, though.
43. All Symols in Meridell traditionally belong to the king.
44. King Skarl is Symolaphobic.
45. Spardels get away with just about everything in Meridell.
And there you have it: 45 things you may or may not have known about Meridell. Hopefully, you gained a bit of insight, and will have a better outlook on this beautiful kingdom. Maybe you will see Meridell in a different light. Now, if you will excuse me, I must see to a problem involving two farmers, some cheese, and a potato garden…
