Yooyuball is a game very similar to soccer but with a Neopets twist. The Aldador Cup is held once a year and teams from all over Neopia gather to try and win the coveted prize.
You must first sign up and pick a team. After that you can play Yooyuball against a predetermined opponent. The tournament runs for several weeks and is a single elimination tournament.
When you start playing you pick which direction you want to go and what formation you want to play in. The direction doesn't matter so pick whatever you are comfortable with. I suggest using the 1+3 formation because you will primarily be controlling the 1 forward and this leaves 3 defenders back in case the opponent gets the ball. I play in 3+1 because I like to score with Lilo Blumario on Roo Island (Go Roo Island).
After you have picked your formation, watch the teams take the field and get ready to go. You can skip the ball choosing animation with the space bar, but if you do that, get ready to play right away as the game will start very quickly.
Occasionally you may notice that it seems very difficult to score a goal with the techniques described below (or with your own perhaps). This is because the goalie has gotten hot. It will be very difficult to get the ball passed them. The Fire Ball will be a bit of a challenge without great placement and virtually every other ball will require a cross pass. Slower balls like the Snow Ball will be very difficult to score with. After either team scores a goal, the goalie may return to normal and make it easier to score. If you are ahead by a few goals and you are having a very hard time scoring against a Hot Goalie, you may consider letting the other team score, and hope the goalie returns to normal. This strategy is only viable if you are 1) ahead by more than 1 goal and 2) have time to score at least 2 more times. It is better to win 5-2 than 3-1.
You may notice one game that things are moving faster than usual. It maybe the balls, your players, or your opponents. Many people have thought that this was a glitch, but I believe it is a programmed random event. Speed Modifiers last for one game, so try to tough it out if your opponents are fast, or rack up the score if the balls are.
When your opponents are moving fast, you will have to be very cautious to keep the balls, especially the Fire Ball out of their hands as they will be able to score very quickly.
When your players are moving fast you will have to stand still to shoot the ball, or better yet, as soon as you shoot, hit the spacebar to stop controlling the player. You will have a hard time controlling your players in this game.
When the balls are turbo charged, you will be able to score very easily, even with the Snow Ball. All scoring techniques should still work.
Occasionally, all the players on the field will run backwards. There is no difference in playing other than getting used to the odd visual of dribbling up the field backwards and shooting at a goalie facing the other way.
Normal Ball | |
Stats
Speed: 2 Used: The most Behavior: Normal Ease of use: 8/10 DescriptionYou start every game with a Normal Ball. The speed is decent and it moves straight when kicked. You can easily score on your own or with a cross pass with this ball. StrategyTo score with this ball, you approach the goal from the top side. When you are just about to the chalk, aim down toward the bottom post and quickly shoot. Try to aim at or just below the post to score. |
|
Fire Ball | |
Stats
Speed: 3 Used: Often Behavior: Normal Ease of use: 10/10 DescriptionThe Fire Ball is similar to the Normal Ball, but it moves faster and leaves a trail of fire in its wake. This ball can cross the span of the field in very little time so it is easy to score and easy to be scored on. Be careful. StrategyThe strategy for the Fire Ballis similar to the Normal Ball but you can shoot from farther away if you want. To score with this ball, you approach the goal from the top side. Then aim down toward the bottom post and shoot. Try to aim at or just below the post to score. |
|
Snow Ball | |
Stats
Speed: 1 Used: Often Behavior: Normal / Slow Ease of use: 5/10 DescriptionThe Snow Ball moves in a straight path when passed or kicked, but it moves slower than the Normal Ball and it leaves a trail of snow behind it as it moves. StrategyThis ball is difficult to get into the goal without some teamwork although it can be done. Similar to the Normal Ball, you approach from the top and shoot toward the bottom post. Since the ball moves more slowly and slows down very fast, you must get quite close to the goalie before you shoot. If you get too close however they will just grab the ball off your sling so timing is critical. This ball benefits most from a cross pass so work on that technique for when this ball shows up. |
|
Faerie Ball | |
Stats
Speed: 2 (4*) Used: Sometimes Behavior: Curve Ease of use: 4/10 DescriptionThe Faerie Ball moves in an arcing or curved path when you kick it or shoot it. This allows you to pass or shoot around your opponents with some practice. It also allows you to make some very long shots if you are lucky. * If you shoot this ball at a wall from very close range, the speed of the ball will exceed even the Fire Ball. You can use this technique to make some very interesting shots. StrategyThe original "tough" scoring ball from Yooyuball Year 1. The Faerie Ball curves so it is tough to tell where to shoot it like the other non-standard balls practice makes perfect. The best way to score is to approach straight on and shoot at the goalie. If you are the right distance away, the ball will scoot around the goalie for a score. You may find it helps to aim just above or below the goalie. |
|
Mutant Ball | |
Stats
Speed: 2 Used: Sometimes Behavior: Erratic Ease of use: 5/10 DescriptionThe Mutant Ball behaves randomly each shot or pass like one of the other balls other than clockwork (it never explodes). StrategyThe Mutant Ball behaves randomly each shot or pass like one of the other balls other than clockwork. You can use the methods of any of the other balls to score if you can correctly guess which ball it will mimic. I stick with the Snow Ball technique as this will allow you to score with 3 of the 5 possible behaviors of the ball. |
|
Darigan Ball | |
Stats
Speed: 2 Used: Sometimes Behavior: Defiant Ease of use: 4/10 DescriptionThis ball is defiant and will try to move in a direction other than where you intend it to go. This makes shooting and passing difficult to predict. StrategyThe weakness and strength of this ball is the defiant nature of the Darigan Ball. While it is hard to tell where the ball is going to go when you shoot, the opposing team will also be tricked. The way to score is to approach like you do with a Normal Ball. Instead of shooting right away though you continue to run in front of the goal and shoot the ball at the wall just below the bottom post. The Darigan Ball with defy this and shoot up toward the top post "tricking" you and the goalie. |
|
Clockwork Ball | |
Stats
Speed: 2 Used: Rarely Behavior: Explosive Ease of use: 7/10 DescriptionThe Clockwork Ball has a timer and when it runs out... BOOM! StrategyBasically a Normal Ball only it explodes if you don't score in time. The edges of the ball flash red when it is about to go off. Don't worry though, if you are near it when it explodes, you aren't hurt although I wouldn't be surprised if TNT writes in the story that a certain player gets hurt and knocked out of the tournament sometime in the later rounds. Use the Normal Ball strategy. |
|
Cross Pass | |
DescriptionSometimes it is easier to score if you can make a quick pass before you shoot. Typically this involves having a player on each side of the goal and passing it front of the goal to the other player who quickly shoots the ball in the goal before the goalie can react. This technique can work for any ball, but it is best used for any of the Normal balls, especially the Snow Ball because of its slow speed. To execute a cross pass, position the players as shown. Pass the ball toward your teammate on the goal side. Quickly move your mouse to the other player to take control of them and as soon as they catch the ball, shoot it in the goal. With a little practice it will become second nature, and it is fun to watch. |
|
Double Ricochet Faerie Shot | |
DescriptionThe Faerie Ball can be thrown very quickly if you toss it directly into a wall. This allows you to be creative with how you try to score with it. The example is just one way. I will attempt to capture more ways to score with the faerie ball and post them here. |
