About The Guild
Have you ever stared out into the stars, wondering what other worlds might be out there?Everyone dreams... of finding another world, of escaping into their fantasies. Is that what you're looking for? Do you dream of magic?
Xohlia (ZOH-li-ah) is a beautiful world out in the universe, never found by earthlings, where your dreams can come true. Magic is an integral part of Xohlia, as are its many wonderful creatures: dragons, gryphons, and elves, just to name a few...
...All right, that's enough. Don't be silly; this isn't your dream world. It's a real one. And even -- especially -- on such a breathtakingly magical world, nothing is perfect.
Xohlia is in crisis.
And real life is never easy, so there's no obvious solution.
So now, the question is: can you survive here? Do you know the difference between fancies and reality? The line isn't always as clear-cut as you might think. Those dreams of fantasy are your guide to survival here... if you know what they mean.

Guild Details:
Xohlian roleplay is solid old-school medieval fantasy, with the addition of (magic-based) DNA modification.
Roleplay isn't all we do, 'course; we chat in OOC, and we're all great friends. Xohlia's a tight-knit, close world... and while you're here, you just might end up finding a bit of the magic hidden in your own soul.
The guild is US-based, though we've had members from as far as Canada, England, and Newfoundland; everyone's welcome =D. We tend to log on starting about 1:00 NST every day. The guild itself averages as literate; we range from upper semi-lit to lit+/advanced, though most of our members are much closer to the latter type. And, of course, we all work on improving our roleplaying. We're pretty inclusive, so long as you're willing to learn and have a good time, and have even welcomed dyslexic members before.

Rules
--On Literacy: Ah, literacy... something that's incredibly difficult to define. Nevertheless, Xohlia is classed as a literate guild. What does that mean to us? Our definition includes correct grammar, good spelling, and roleplay posts at least a paragraph long; but for us, the most important aspect is the ability to write engaging, interesting prose. The occasional typo is okay, we all make mistakes =). This means that if you write well, we may be a bit more forgiving... and you'll usually find a mix of high-semi-lit to advanced roleplayers in the guild. On the other hand, purple prose, wolfspeak, or the ability to use big words do not automatically qualify you as literate on our terms.* Chatspeak and the like is allowed ooc, within specific limits.
All right... now take a deep breath. We haven't got the stuff swamping our nice shiny boards; we just think that the current literate-advanced grudge against the stuff is getting a bit extreme. ^^ You won't find any Xohlians using chatspeak because they can't be bothered to type things out (or Smudge will eat them raw). But on the other hand, you just might find bits slipping in for emphasis or fun. This means you'll see a fair amount of 'pwn' and 'lawlz' and 'nuuuu' - but pure chatspeak won't be around to make your eyeballs bleed. To paraphrase something a Xohlian once said... "Banning all chatspeak is like banning all dancing at a party." (Ooh look, someone's famous now! xD)
-- On Roleplaying: These are pretty much just the standard set, but we'll list them anyway. Just in case. =P
* Use some form of OOC/IC.
* Other important symbols you may see in Xohlian roleplay: /TEXT/ for thoughts, -TEXT- for thought-speech (telepathy), and :text: for animal-speech (faerie only).
* No godmoding or powerplaying.
-- Other Board Rules: Some more of the obvious. But what the hey... always good to list 'em, right? ^^
* Be VEEEEEEEERY nice. We don't want any hard feelings in the guild, as interesting as drama might be. ;o If you must, take it to neomail.
* Do.Not.Spam. I repeat - do NOT spam. The occasional double post is fine, but don't keep on posting without a good reason. =) (And besides, Smudge is watching you...)
* The subject line of any in-character posts should contain the name of your character, as well as any other characters that are currently interacting with them. OOC posts can have any subject you want, but they should have "ooc" somewhere in them. This really helps us keep things organized, so please try to keep on top of it. =3
-- On Activity:
Not much point in being in the guild if you're never on, is there?
* Try to get on at least three or four times a week, if possible.
* In Xohlia, we run roleplays across a number of different time zones. If there's nobody on when you get here, you can always reply to whatever's happened since you were last on. Help keep roleplay going, even when we can't be on together.
* If you go on vacation, or you know you can't be on because something's come up in real life, please NEOMAIL MIST (star_of_midwinter) AND tell the guild.
* The activity limit is ten days, and it is strictly enforced =o. Council members will be demoted after one week of inactivity, and given three more days before they are deleted from the guild.
-- On Characters: You may roleplay up to 10 main characters -- as long as you roleplay all of them. It may seem like a lot, but since the RP here is spread out more than in other roleplays, you may find yourself using quite a few of them ;3.
* Of course, you've gotta have permission to 'play another one, too. To find out if you have space for another charrie in your roster, check the "Ranks" section.
* Unusual abilities, pelt/hide/skin/eye colors, and/or jewelry might be allowed, but do ask first.
Long list, right? Well, hopefully, we've scared off all the illiterate noobs by now. We're really not that strict, we promise ;D.
Ranks
Newcomer: The rank you begin with when you join Xohlia. To level up, we're looking for activity and dedication =).As a Newcomer, you may only have three characters.
Known: At 150 posts or more, you become Known! This means you're an active member of the guild and willing to stay in it for the long haul. Also, we'll have gotten to know you by now. =D
You may now have six characters.
Exemplary: Quite an accomplishment! At 500 posts, you've proved your dedication, literacy, and activity. You're a respected member of the guild.
You have earned the right to have all ten characters!
Exalted: An exalted rank indeed, you have achieved 850 posts or more! Plus, you're respected and liked by council and members alike, and are active in guild discussion.
You're allowed ten characters, and you may roleplay the races reserved for council! All exalted members will have board admin powers, as well.
Emeritus: An adjective that is used in the title of a retired council member, only. These are honorably retired members who have been phased out by the rotating council system. They have authority over all other members, save for the current council.
You will keep all the privileges you had as a council member: ten (or more) characters, plus the right to roleplay any races reserved for council. You will also keep all the admin powers you had while on council.
Guardian: Our council rank! Council members will be voted on by the guild, then chosen by Mist. Don't bother applying unless elections are in progress. For an example of how it will work, as well as what will be expected of you as a council member, click here.
Roleplay Leader: A special rank created when the guild became just too much for Mist to handle by herself (D=). The roleplay leader, Avalon, is the second most powerful person in Xohlia. She has full admin powers, and is in charge of directing roleplay/leading the plot. She will also answer all lore questions, look over characters to prevent overpowered beings, and clear up any issues we may have on the boards. Avalon's decisions may only be overwritten by Mist (although she will be open to discussion, I'm sure ;3).
Leader: Ah, leadership. This is the rank and special provenance of Mist, who rules with an iron fist and uses all Xohlians as her own personal slav - wait. This isn't the right script! ...
Mist, who is here to help and serve all Xohlians however she can. -beams-. Mist is responsible for updates, maintaining all of the webbie and associated pages, and settling anything that is simply too controversial. She makes many of the decisions in the guild. She also keeps an eye on lore and roleplaying (though that's mostly the role of Avalon).
If you become a trusted member, before you are exalted, you may neomail Mist asking to make one of the characters reserved for exalted, emeriti and council members.
-- Final Note on Rules and Ranks: If you break a rule, that's ONE penalty (unless you are excused). Three penalties, and you well either be demoted or have your promotion delayed.
If a member chooses to return after being deleted (for whatever reason), they will be allowed to roleplay however many characters they had before they left; on the other hand, they will have to regain both ranks and any admin they had.
New Members
Have we caught your attention? Well, there are a few rules if you're interested in joining.
1. Talk to Mist first! -- If you join randomly, without first neomailing our application
to Mist and getting permission from her, then you will be deleted. The point of this is really just to prove that you are indeed literate, and can roleplay competently. If one of our members says you can join because Mist isn't on, then you may join; if anyone's wrong, they'll get chewed out, not you =P.
2. Make your character soon -- You have a week after you join to make your first character. If you don't make one in that time without good reason, you'll be deleted.
3. Post on the board -- When you join the guild, please post before you do anything else. You don't have to say much: just hi, maybe your name, and what you're doing now (i.e., "Sorry, but I've gotta go now"; or "I'm making my first charrie, so I'll be back soon."; or whatever you like). We need to know you've joined, and we'd all like to say hi =).

Activeness;; I'd like to see something in text: such as how many days a week you get on, for how long, that sort of thing. Not just a number, please.
Experience;; Have you roleplayed before? For how long? Ever done fantasy? Ever owned a guild? None of these will count for or against you much, Mist just wants to know. And we must always make Mist happy, right? Yeah. Next question. xD
HTML/CSS/Graphics;; Yes, no, sort of? Once again, it won't affect whether you get in or not; Mist isn't very good at any of these things, so no worries.
About me;; Your interests, random facts, anything you'd like to put here will do.
Roleplay sample;; Ah, the most important part. This can be on any subject you like, but fantasy is preferred. Simple isn't always bad, of course; but do try to show off some of those pwnsome roleplaying skills =D. Remember, grammar, punctuation and spelling are always good things to have. Two paragraphs at least; more is fine too!
