Raiders of Maraqua Guide
Raiders of Maraqua Guide
Welcome to my guide. When I started getting game avatars I was suprised to find there wasn't a readily avaliable guide to this game. There is a strong aspect of this game that is very puzzle-like, so creating a guide should have been easy. But after a few tries you'll learn, as I did, that this game isn't strictly a puzzle. There are treasure guardians who, in addition to hunting you down, also go out of their way to block off your ability to beat a level. Sometimes they're so effective you have no choice but to allow yourself to be captured or just to restart the level. THER IS HOPE! With some advanced knowledge of what you intend to do you'll be able to work your way through a level quicker and with less chance of being blocked out.
One very important point. Level 19 is a bear, and unless you're very lucky it's almost impossible to beat. Yet if you're looking for the avatar that's OK. You don't need to get past that level to score over 800 points.
The symbols I'm using here are pretty simple and I'll use them throughout the guide. The "X" is a bubble that needs to be removed by pushing or popping. The two parallel lines will show where you need something to stop the movement of a pushed object. Walls won't need the lines, they're not going anywhere.
Things to Remember:
Pretty striaght forward. Push the first gem into the trunk and then push the second gem back to where the first was located. Then push it into the trunk. NOTE: Just getting the gems between here and level 19 WILL NOT get you the avatar. You have to work at getting the the max out of your points, so make sure you don't push that last gem into the trunk before you get all the points you can from pushing bubbles onto guardians. The guardians sometimes take a few seconds to show up in this level so just wait. They'll come.
Just as easy as the first level. Push the closest gem to the trunk straight in. Push the dark bubble up to create a blocker. (if the bubble above has been removed you'll need to push another bubble into it's place so you'll still have a block) Now push the top left gem over to the new block, get behind it and push it into the chest. Don't forget to max out the avaliable points for pushing bubbles into guardians.
Things start to get a little more complex here. First clear out the bubbles between the closest gem to the chest and the chest itself. Don't push the gem in. Instead, clear a path between the two gems and push the right hand gem over to the left one. You can now push the gem that's directly under the chest in. Push up the dark bubble beneath the left hand stone to create a block. Push the remaining gem up and then left. It should be lined up with the chest and you can push it home.
This is the first level you get to do without the interference of the guardians. It's pretty straighforward but be aware that it's still possible to lose on levels like this. Bonus gems or extra lives may block a gem or rock from being able to move forward enough for you to remove it. There's usually only one solution when that happens and that's pushing the "restart level" button. It's not fun when it happens but it's one of those things that makes this avatar so hard to get and so rare to have.
Yes it's as easy as it looks. This level is all about fighting guardians and getting as many points as you can. Getting two guardians in one shot will get you 15 points and three will net you a very nice 35 points. When you're not getting any more points from pushing bubbles onto guardians, push the last gem into the chest and move on.
One of the tricks to this level is to ignore the closest gem at first and get the top right one into the chest right away. You can do this by popping the bubble to the gem's left and pushing it into its place. Push down into the ready made block and then straight into the chest. The other gem creates more of a problem. This is the first level where you have to build a multiple bubble block. Once the block is set you're free to push the last gem right and then straight up into the chest.
A very kind neopian helped me come up with a simpler version here. I had a much more complex answer to this level but if you start by pushing the bubble that's up top near the chest to the right everything is much easier. After that remember to create a two bubble block below the lowest gem. To do this go through the top layer of bubbles so you have a second bubble to push over. After that's done push the lowest gem into the chest with the route shown. The second gem should be just as easy. Don't go hunting for guardians till your gem is ready for the last puch into the chest. Further more you want to keep a real close eye on it. For some reason the guardians on this level are prone to pushing your gem agasinst the wall where you can't get it, even if you aren't anywhere around.
For the most part you don't have to worry too much about Guardians for this level. If one pops out of the bubble you need to use as a block you're sunk. Also if a guardian is swimming back and forth on the very bottom, push a bubble up from the stack on the lower right and wait. Eventually they'll come up that shaft and with good timing you can capture it. In order to make sure that you don't lose that necessary bubble on the bottom generally you should ignore any guardian that's appearing in the top left. Just swim by them before they start moving and finish the level off. There'll be time to get points on other levels.
There are plenty of opportunities to gain points on this level. So many bubbles need to be moved around and not a single block needs to be built so bubble guardians as you go. First pop the two light bubbles on your left. Push the dark bubble up, you'll need a way out later. Next push or pop the bubbles surrounding the gem below you. Push it up and then right. Up again and then into the chest. If there aren't guardians up top now's a good time to get that gem. Push it left and them down. You'll have to plow your way through to the very left to get out. If there are slorgs there (and there usually are) you'll either have to bubble them or rush on by when they're moving in the small areas below the exit row. Clear out the bubbles to the left of the bottom right gem and push it to the wall. Push it straight up and you're on to the next level. You'll want to get the bottom right gem before the top one if there are guardians up there. Just in case you're caught you'll have an easy 5 more points on your score.
Another deceptively simple board. Guardians are particualarly prone to destroying the bubbles in the empty space above the chest. If that happens you'll have to work at building another block to use. But if you quickly get your gem into place right above the chest you should be able to rack up some quick points from guardians before you push it in to finish the level.
Something goes wrong with this level about one out of three times you play it. Either a gem or extra life is in that top row. Or a Guardian clears out all the bubbles in the middle shaft and you can't get by. If a Guardian is in the middle row sometimes you can use the bubble right at the turn to capture it or, if you get lucky you could wait it out in one of the niches in the lower right and hope the guardian swims down and then swims past you. It's a stretch. Usually when this level gets out of reach that "Restart Level" button is the only option. Don't worry too much about it. Play this game enough and you start to get really fimiliar with using it.
Level 12 and 13 are great levels for getting lots of points from battling guardians. The only thing you really need to keep an eye on are those dark bubbles in the top right. Don't try and take a short cut and push them towards the gem there. They'll only end up getting in your way. Other than that go hunt some slorgs!
There's only one thing you have to do right and that's push the rock between the top left gem and the chest either up or down. Pushing it right or left creates problems you don't want. Once again guardian hunting is what this level is all about.
To get out from behind the rocks you can push any rock to the right, AS LONG AS IT'S NOT ONE OF THE TWO MARKED WITH A SQUARE! Those two will prohibit you from doing what you want. You'll then push the top gem down using the gem below it as a block. Push the top gem right and then down. After that you shouldn't need any help with what to do last.
Ahhh levels without guardians to get in your way. On this one don't forget to move that left hand rock down BEFORE you even touch the gem. Other wise you'll be pushing that "Restart Level" button again. Move the right hand rock right, up, right, and up again to create the necessary block. As for the gem. Push it left to line it up with the shell and then push it down. Pushing it right lines it up with the gap. Swim around the wall and push upwards then right. Pushing up again you'll run into the block you created with the rock. Swim around the wall one more time to push the gem into the waiting chest.
While it may look like there's no possible way to mess this level up you'd be mistaken. Trying to cut corners so you don't have to swim around so much will make it impossible to finish. Instead you need to push the gems in one at a time starting with the one just to the left of the chest. Then the one in the lower right, followed by the one a bit above the chest. The one on the right is next and finally back to the gem that you started next to. Don't forget to push the rock up to create a block before you push the gem to your right. If you follow all that it really is impossible to fail.
Lots of red herrings here. This level is so much easier than it even looks. Push the rock above the gem to the right. Now push the rock over by the shells (the one that's above the others) down with its friends. Push the right hand bubble up and then right. Go back to the gem. Push it down into the shell. Push it LEFT into the next shell and then finally up into the last shell. This'll line you up with that bubble block you've already placed. Push the gem to the right. Then it's into the home stretch pushing it up and then left into the chest.
This might be my favorite level. It's the best reason I can give for having a guide because the solution isn't immediately apparent. You have to build a few blocks here and one of them is a multiple bubble block. Let's get started. There's a middle row of three bubbles. Push the right and middle bubbles up. Right below the middle bubble there's a single bubble. Push it up as well and then over to the right. You'll be using that block a lot. The two bubbles left on the bottom, push them one at a time. Up, right to the block, and then down. You're two bubbles short of the block you really need. You'll find what you need in that top row. The bubble that you didn't touch in what used to be the middle row is now a block. Push the bubble above it down. Push it right and down with the other two. Lastly you can push one of the other top row bubbles into place above that middle bubble and repeat the same process. You should now have a 4 bubble block in the bottom right and you're ready for the gems. One at a time. Push them down and right through the shaft. Up into the block and then right. Push them down into the big block you constructed and BOOM you can slam them home into the chest.
I find this level to be straight up impossible. Now I know there're people that have beaten it. They have to be getting farther along if they are putting up scores in the thousands, but I don't know how they do it. Unfortunately they haven't written a guide to follow. So here's what I think should happen for you to push all the gems into the chest. Yet unless you have a trick for getting by 4 guardians with a passion for pushing the necessary bubbles out of the way you're not going to beat it either. Instead this is where you have to buckle down and focus on points. Ignore the gems (except for maybe the bottom right one, that one's possible to get) and go for points by bubbleing the guardians. If you are quick enough you should be able to nab quite a few points on this level and push you score north of 800. HELLO AVATAR!!
Here's a look at level 20. Notice there are no gems. It's all about getting points from fighting guardians till you die. Thanks to pfkcmk for providing the screenshot!
Hopefully this helped you and you now possess a shiny and highly-enviable avatar. If you liked this guide send me a neomail: darkwing693. I worked hard on getting this guide up and running and I'd love to hear if it helped. Also if you have a secret that I don't know, like one that would help me get by level 19, I'd love to hear it.
