Not Captain Scarblade......
Not even Boochi.......
They Are SCAMMERS!

Not All Scams Are Created Equal.......
LEVEL ONE SCAMS

These are the simplest scams to detect.

LINGO

This is needed both to be covert and because of neopets language restrictions ;)

Wolf:scammer

Sheep:person about to be scammed

Treasure=Sheep's pw or account

Poodle: Bystander

ON ICE: In this scam, the Wolf, will send a neomessage to Sheep. Wolf tells sheep that if they fail to give them their treasure, Wolf will report Sheep. SOLUTION: Sheep should report Wolf for: Scamming to get neopoints and items

Asking people to change their email address and "treasure".

Wolf CANNOT report Sheep for ANYTHING, which is why it's scam.

SIT AND SWAP: In this scam, Sheep will be the lure, even if they don't know it. Sheep will be either talking on the boards, guild, or even post on their lookup that they will be out of town for a few days. Wolf will then try to convince sheep that they are trustworthy enough to know their "treasure" and 'take care' of their pets, through talking, becoming neofriends, or even giving a gift. SOLUTION: Feed your pets until they are bloated and play with them before you leave or give them a luxurious stay at the Neolodge . Then report Wolf for: Scamming to get neopoints and items

Asking people to change their email address and "treasure".

And just don't tell EVERYONE when you're leaving town!

AIR PAINTBRUSH: Wolf offers sheep a paint brush, or other valuable item, in exchange for their treasure. Usually it is a VERY expensive paintbrush that is displayed on a Sheep's wishlist. Faerie and Maraquan are the most popular. SOLUTION: Report Wolf for: Scamming to get neopoints and items

Asking people to change their email address and "treasure".

MIDDLE MAN: This scam takes place usually on the trading post, where Wolf will be advertising a very valuable item in exchange for it's worth, usually 5 million np, or more. Wolf will neomail a Sheep, usually between a month and a year old and without any painted pets. Wolf will say something along the lines of

I am selling a Faerie Paint Brush in the trading post. You seem like a cool kid, and I'll offer it to you for 2 million! Heck, I found it in a random event anyway. But you've got to offer on this other trade, so I know you've got the np.

Obvious Scam. The other trade is usually just a junk item from fishing. And they'll take the np and run with it.

SOLUTION: Sheep should report Wolf for: Scamming to get neopoints and items

And Sheep should offer ONLY on the trade they are interested in.

PLAYER: This Wolf has MANY, MANY, if not ALL the game trophies possible to obtain. This would make ANYONE jealous. Wolf neomails a Sheep, telling them that they can get them ALL those trophies, if they just give them their treasure. Need I say WHY this is a Level One Scam? SOLUTION: Sheep should report Wolf for: Scamming to get neopoints and items

and PRACTICE playing the games for themselves.

LEVEL TWO SCAMS

Currently being researched.

LEVEL THREE SCAMS

These are for ELITE agents

FAKE LOGIN: Here Wolf is offsite, where TNT can't blow them out of the water. Some are EXACT replicas of neopets.com, like neopetz.com, so Sheep are caught unaware. SOLUTION: Sheep should only go to a 'neopets.com' if they do a web search and it is the number one result. NEVER choose one from a referral link outside of neopets.com.
AIR POINTS: Another off site scam. Wolf is now THE NEOPOINTS GENERATOR. Wolf now asks Poodles and Sheep to put their username, treasure, birthday, REMOVE their pin number. Now Agents, I mean not to insult you, but some people are extremely desperate. Or so new that they think it is a secret part of Neopia, like Jelly World. SOLUTION: Easy, don't fill it out, and spread the word on the NEWBIE BOARD Trust me Agents, if it were real (yes, I tried it) I would tell you by all means use it!
TRICKY TRADE: This scam requires a VERY skilled Wolf. In this scam, Sheep offers a lot of neopoints on a lot, usually in excess of 300,000. Now this is tricky for Wolf. Wolf has two windows open, and accepts the trade, in one and cancels the lot in the other. Now this MAY leave Sheep penniless, or Wolf may have lost their item. VERY tricky. SOLUTION: Unfortunately, there is none :(
BOOBY-TRAPPED LUGGAGE: This is where Wolf is on the boards, saying they are leaving neopets. Attracting Sheep and Poodles from hither and yon. Wolf Picks one lucky Sheep and gives them a FAKE treasure. When Sheep neomails them on Wolf's other account saying it won't let them in. Wolf asks what were you trying to change the treasure to. THE SCAM: For convience MOST Sheep, Poodles, and even Wolves, give all their accounts the same treasure. So, Wolf will assume the treasure Sheep is trying to change it to is also to Sheep's account! SOLUTION: Only take advantage of these 'situations' when it is the right treasure the second time, since Sheep may copy it wrong. Don't ever answer the questions pertaining to what Sheep would change it to, ask questions like "what did YOU change it to?".

EVASIVE MANUEVERS

To Stop The Scammers In Their Tracks!

1. Change your pw every 2 - 3 months, or more often if you have a more wealthy account. You may want to interchange them so you don't forget.

EXAMPLE:

123 in January and February

456 in March and April

123 in May and June

2. Keep a PIN NUMBER on your bank account. Something simple enough for you to remember, but not others. Maybe the day your grandmother was born

EXAMPLE: Grandma Clara was born on February 3 1939

The numbers would be 231939 so pick the first four.

NEVER, EVER, EVER, EVER! Share accounts with someone. You can make up to five accounts with one email address so you and your little sister can have separate accounts. Not that your 5 year old sister knows how to scam or transfer your points to another account. It's that they may give your pw to a "really nice guy" who neomailed you and promised you a faerie paint brush.
