History

A fun-loving species, Grundos are known for their friendly dispositions, however their history has been less than happy.

Since the beginning, the Grundo race was enslaved by Dr. Sloth, who transformed many into grotesque savages using less than humane means (BZZZZTTT!!). Grundos were first shown to the Neopian public on August 15th, 2000 (In a very degrading way, if we may add. A "big ugly green Grundo"? Really TNT?) at the start of the first Sloth plot. During the plot, on August 24th, Grundos were released for adoption from the Space Station. In order to free them from slavery and help return power to the Space Faerie, Neopians were encouraged to adopt the helpless pets.

Since their emancipation from Dr. Sloth's grip, Grundos have spread far and wide throughout the Neopian world, although the largest populations are on Kreludor and in the Space Station.

Even as things were quieting down in the Space Station, tensions were rising on Kreludor. Mining on the moon had become a booming enterprise, and one Grundo (whose name is unknown) ran the entire operation smoothly and prosperously. After the Grundos passing, though, his two sons, Xarthab and Zorlix, started bickering over how the mines should be run. With a little instigation on Sloth's part, the brothers soon split, along with the Grundos of Kreludor (the orange Grundos sided with Xarthab, while the purple joined Zorlix). Eventually, Zorlix was led to believe that his brother was planning a rebellion against him and decided to act first, sparking the bloody feud that kept them occupied while Sloth excavated their mines uninterrupted.
Fun Facts

Grundo Day is August 24th.

Over 8 million Grundos have been created.

Grundos are ranked 11th in popularity.

3.15% of Neopias population are Grundos.

Grundo - grun-doh
Grundos - grun-dohs

The brothers fought bitterly for years, each controlling their own side of Kreludor, until the Return of Dr. Sloth plot, where the two came to a truce after discovering Sloths informant, Parlax, had tricked the both of them into believing the other a traitor (and being faced with the imminent danger of annihilation tends to improve relationships, too).

Since then, Xarthab and Zorlix have mended their relationship and now control the mines together as brothers. Once again, Kreludor is peaceful and prosperous with its Grundo inhabitants.

Adopt A Grundo

If you've ever wanted a more loving and caring pet, then look no further than at the Grundo! -wink- These steadfast companions are loyal and are extremely friendly. They are also very unique. Grundos are one of the only three species in Neopia that cannot be created through the "Create-a-Pet" page (the others being Krawks and Draiks). Grundos are also one of the few pets that can be created in more colors that the basic Red, Green, Blue, and Yellow. Below are the colors that you can create a Grundo in (if you would like a better view of the pets, bigger versions are located in the "Colors" section, or you can drag and drop the pictures to the address bar) :

Galactic Green

Grundos in the Neopedia

Grundo Chef
Name : Gargarox Isafuhlarg (Grundo Chef)
Species : Grundo
Age : 32
Occupation : Concocting new interesting recipes for all Neopia to share.
Quote : Oops, maybe I should have used a little more Brangerplex...

Grundo Chef has two loves in his life, making bizarre new recipes and playing Gormball. Sadly he is not too great at either, but he tries very hard. This innovative cook will mix anything together. He brought Spotted Pudding, Beef Rouladen and Scrambled Eggs A La King to Neopia, along with some of his less popular dishes.

Spider Grundo
Name : Spider Grundo
Species : Well, he used to be a Grundo... now who knows...
Hobbies : Terrorising those crazy enough to venture into his damp, dark cave.
Quote : Come right in, you're just in time for supper!

The Spider Grundo used to be an assistant to Dr. Sloth, before the mad scientist turned on the poor Grundo and used him as the subject of a horrible experiment. Now the Spider Grundo makes his home in a cave somewhere on the outskirts of Neopia. The location of this cave remains unknown, because no one who has ever been unfortunate enough to meet the Spider Grundo has ever lived to tell the tale.

Truggdon the Grundo
Name : Truggdon
Species : Grundo
Age : 34
Hobbies : Gourmet cooking
Favourite Food : Cherries jubalee, "because I can either sit down to a whole plate's worth, or just grab a handful on my way to a match."
Quote : Did you bring a towel? I hear that water's pretty cold today...

Truggdon was a dishwasher at the Grundo Cafe before he became part of Sloth's army. He fastly became interested in Tug-o-War, and soon became skilled at the game and earned many neopoints. After experiencing the cruelty reeked by Sloth's army, Truggdon decided to leave his brigade during the invasion of Sakhmet. After weeks of hiding in The Lost Desert, Truggdon was finally able to return to Sakhmet once Sloth's Army had been defeated. Though the natives were wary of him at first, they soon saw that Truggdon despised Sloth and his Army as much as they did. As the mighty Grundo racked up a number of impressive victories, he even managed to acquire a devoted following among the local Tug-O-War enthusiasts.

Zygorax the Grundo
Name : Zygorax the Grundo
Species : Grundo
Age : 6
Occupation : Third class maintenance worker (waste disposal)
Favourite Foods : Squashed salisbury steak, beef rouladen and spiced apple pie.
Quote : Listen, I can't get involved! I've got work to do! It's not that I like Evil Fuzzles... I hate them!

Working in the shadows of Zyrolon, the famous Grundo first class technician Zygorax has spent the majority of his career managing the space station's waste (i.e. Neocola cans, juppie stalks, Gargapple cores and other things that Neopians so carelessly throw away) while trying to work his up the intergalactic ladder. He also spends a considerable amount of his day fighting back Evil Fuzzles from Beyond the Stars in his X-Scrub 4000 Walker Bot.

Colonel Cobb
Name : Colonel Cobb
Species : Grundo
Hobbies : Training his troops of vegetables
Quote : Put your shoulders back! Chin up! Heels together, toes apart! Look smart!

Within the ranks of Doctor Sloth's army, one name was feared more than any other: Colonel Cobb, commander of the Second Grundo Air Cavalry Battalion. His training techniques were legendary, his disciplines harsh, and the Grundos who served him were completely devoted to his every word. But something happened in the war, and Doctor Sloth abandoned Cobb and his Grundo commandos. What happened? Nobody can say for certain, but when the Colonel lost his unit behind enemy lines, he lost what was left of his senses, as well. Now, he lives on a remote farm: growing vegetables, giving them orders, and preparing for the day when they'll be needed once again.

Gorix
Name : Gorix
Species : Grundo
Gender : Male
Color : Blue
Age : ??
Interests : The Resistance, protecting the Space Station and all Grundo-kind.
Quote : Welcome to the Resistance.

Though he was relatively young when Dr. Frank Sloth began absorbing Grundos into his personal army, Gorix still clearly remembers those troubled times. Like many others, even after Sloth's defeat, he feared the day the evil genius would return to finish what he'd started and took action to prepare for that day, joining the Resistance as soon as he was old enough. He played a key role in the second battle against Sloth, and helped to rid Neopia from the mad scientist once and for all.

FREAKY FACTORY

Neopians have been playing with cute little figurines for ages, completely oblivious of the dark secrets behind their production...

In this game you play a factory worker employed by Krelufun Industries, a wholly owned subsidiary of Virtupets, Inc (the corporate arm of Dr. Sloth's empire.) It's nearing the end of the quarter, and management have just sold a huge amount of little Neopet miniatures, much more than the factory could produce, but that's not their problem is it... oh no... and if that order cannot be fulfilled it's YOUR job on the line!
GORMBALL

Zurroball ..... Booorring!
Frumball ..... As If!!
Gormball ..... YEAH!

Yes, it's the exciting game that's sweeping the outer quadrants. Grab a Gormball and get ready to be amazed! Only 20 NP per game. And that's not all! You can win Neopoints, prizes, and ancient evil alien artifacts!

It only costs 20 NP per play. Are you in?!?! If so, review the information about the competitors and select a character to back from the dropdown list, or just by simply clicking their name.
LOST IN SPACE FUNGUS

A Grundo is exploring deep space on a mission from Kreludor when his tiny vessel is suddenly swallowed by a Giant Space Fungus!! Ew!! The Grundo's navigation system is thrown out of whack, and as a result he can only fly in weird, useless circles. He's doomed, unless the explorer can somehow use his ship's crazy flight pattern to get out.
TIME TUNNEL

In their adventures across the planet of Kreludor, Gorix and Cylara uncover a mysterious door covered with symbols. They don't know what is inside, it could be treasure, or more importantly - clues that will help them find the secret of Kreludor and defeat the evil Dr. Sloth.
SNOW WARS II

Lupes and Snow Beasts are on the hunt for snowmen, and it's up to you to protect them! Build snow-block fortresses around as many of your snowmen as possible, then strategically place your catapults in a way that best defends your fortresses. Once your catapults are in place, set your Grundos to work on blasting the opponent's catapults and knocking out the advancing Lupes and Snow Beasts before they can reach your snow fortresses and destroy your snowmen!
KISS THE MORTOG

To play Kiss the Mortog, you need 50 NP. Simply click on the Mortog you think is the prince (or princess). If you are lucky, you'll win Neopoints – you can collect those Neopoints or continue. Unfortunately non-magical Mortogs HATE being kissed... and explode as a result. When this happens you lose ALL the Neopoints you would have won. Simple, eh?
SPACEROCKED!

Sloth is back again in full force! This time, he's sent an entire fleet of spaceships to take over the moon. If Kreludor falls to the evil mad scientist, his victory over all of Neopia may very well follow.

Play as one of the moon Grundos and defend your home and freedom. Fire at Sloth's ships with your pocket slingshot and keep them at bay. If you can prove your skill, the other Grundos will let you take over the bigger slingshot so you can do some major damage to Sloth's fleet. Just remember, Kreludor must be protected at all costs!
SPLAT-A-SLOTH

Two mischievious Grundos in the space station have set up a game - Splat-A-Sloth. A sock that looks remarkably like Sloth will come firing out the end of their tube, and its your job to hit him with a rolled up copy of the Neopian Times. You only get one go at it... so what are you waiting for .... Splat That Sloth!!!
THE LAST BLAST

Sergeant Zarex thought he'd gotten out. He'd hung up his battered armour after the Kreludan civil war and tried to put his days in the top-secret Section Six behind him. But when the mines of Kreludor were suddenly overrun with hostile robots, everyone knew that there was only one Grundo for the job.

Energy readings show incredible activity in the deepest part of Mine Complex 13-A. Since the area is too deep underground for teleportation, Zarex will have to beam into the uppermost chamber and fight his way past swarms of angry machines in order to uncover and destroy the cause of the invasion.
TYPING TERROR

Wave after wave of malfunctioning clockwork Grundos are attacking the Space Station, bent on your destruction! Your only hope of escaping alive is to type in the words on their body screen, which causes them to short-circuit and explode.

After successfully defeating all five levels of rampaging clockwork Grundos, you must then face the enormous clockwork Grundo boss. Type twenty-five words in sixty seconds to spell his doom!
MOON ROCK RAMPAGE

Kreludor can be a very harsh place for most visitors, and Gorix and Cylara are no exception! They have crash-landed on Neopia's only moon and must navigate across a dangerous lava-covered and monster-infested wasteland if they are to escape!
EVIL FUZZLES FROM BEYOND THE STARS

*KABOOM* *BANG* - Mutant Fuzzles are attacking the Virtupets Space Station!!! You play Zygorax, a third class maintenance worker responsible for waste disposal... but instead of neocola cans and juppie stalks, today you have to dispose of something far far scarier...

Hop inside your X-Scrub 4000 Walker Bot and patrol the outside of the space station, using your laser cannons to shoot the enemies. Earn points for each kill, and spend these at the end of each level to upgrade your walker.
SHENKUU TANGRAM

Decipher the shapes of the clouds over Shenkuu! Drag and drop the pieces into the puzzle with your mouse and move each piece into the correct spot. To rotate the pieces, use the left and right arrow keys or hit the spacebar on your keyboard. To flip the parallelogram, hit the up arrow key. Pressing the down arrow key will return the parallelogram to its original position.
ZURROBALL

Gormball... nah
Frumball... as if
Zurroball... YEAH!!!

Choose your Zurroball, and then see how long you can keep it in the air by clicking on it. Very simple really! Do tricks such as the Boomerang and Left Zurro to earn bonus points. You can only collect the points by hitting the Zurroball over the red line. Try and accumulate as many points as possible before you do this.

Grundos in the Caption Contest

There are 67 Captions in which Grundos make an appearance. Trust me. I went through over
a thousand of the them. I listed the numbers of the captions, rather than the actual pictures,
to save space and brain cells.

How To Draw a Grundo

( How to Draw instructions and pictures belong to Neopets, Inc.© and I am merely
placing them on this page, not claiming them XD )

Start by drawing a large circle.
Next draw another circle overlapping the fist, and add two leg shapes.
Using the circles as guides draw in your Grundos rough body shape. Erase some of your extra lines to clean up your drawing. Then Draw two small bulges at the top of your Grundo's head. These will be the bumps above the eyes. Lastly draw a curved mouth and two eye shapes.
Draw two antenna shapes onto the top of your Grundo's head, like so. Then draw two small circles for your Grundo's hands. Lastly draw two curvy lines from the hands to the edge of the large circle (the body). This will form your Grundo's arms.
Add toes, arms and the bottom of your Grundo's mouth. Draw two circular shapes on either side above your Grundo's head. These will be the outline of your Grundo's antenna.
Join up the antenna, like so. Draw a circle on the end of each arm and add toenails on each toe. Lastly add a little curved line above the mouth.
Add a little detail to your Grundo's hand, like so.
Now erase all your extra lines and your Grundo is complete!
You can make it a little more life-like by adding a splash of colour and some shading if you wish.

So you wanted to learn a little more about me, huh?

I would have thought you'd have been tired by now, but I guess I've been proven wrong. My story isn't long or complicated like my friend's, unfortunately, but it does make for a good tale.

Part I

Adopt me at NeoPound.com! At one point in time, quite a while ago, I was a carefree youth of a Grundo, living with my family in the Space Station. It was after the first Sloth uprising, and most of us thought him to be gone from our lives forever. That was, until the day they came for us.

Most of the Grundos had noticed changes in the air during the week before the second invasion. More security was enforced, a curfew was enabled, and there were rumors of a take-over underlying most conversations. One night, my family and the rest of the Grundos who had not surrendered to the Sloth regime were herded like cattle and separated according to age and fitness. I was dragged to a secluded section of the Space Station outfitted with cells and testing rooms and thrown into a holding tank.

I never saw my family again.

Part II

Days went by without light. Without voices. Without life.

On the fourth day, I herd footsteps down the hall outside my cell, then the jangling of keys. Light flooded the room as the door opened to reveal a shadowy figure, indiscernible because of the glare cast off by the hanging bulbs in the corridor. After a moment of blinking and squinting I recognized the figure to be one of my family's neighbors.
At first I thought he had come to rescue me, but he moved slowly and never met my eye. He pulled wrist cuffs out of a pouch on his hip and bound my hands. Realizing that he wasn't my savior, but my jailer, rage began to pound through my veins. I opened my mouth to speak, yell, curse him for helping Sloth separate my family, but my mouth was too dry to do anything but croak feebly.
*You think I don't know what I've become?* he asked solemnly.

He got behind me and gently nudged my shoulder. We proceeded down the hall, passing cells on our left and right, which I was sure other Grundos were being imprisoned in as well. My jailer (I give him no name because he does not deserve that privilege) and I twisted our ways through long hallways for a good quarter of an hour before we came to a tall iron plated door with a strange yellow and black symbol painted onto it. My jailer pounded twice on the door only to be answered by two resounding booms. Then the gateway swung open to reveal a looming Grundo with mottled green skin and bulging muscles. He grabbed the nape of my neck and pulled me into the room. I had just enough time to see the grave and troubled face of my jailer before he was shut out by the closing door, which locked with and abnormally loud click.
I looked desperately around me for any means of escape, but the only things that occupied the room were the iron door, a steel surgical table with leather straps that was bolted at an angle to the floor, and a half-wall with a small, shaded window set into it facing the table. The large and rather odd smelling Grundo took me to the table and strapped me to it rather tightly. He then retreated to behind the half-wall and I heard the clicks and beeps of buttons being pushed. I looked up to see if there were any ventilation shafts to escape through and noticed a large rectangular trapdoor that I had not seen on my first sweep of the room.

With a final loud boop the trap door slid sideways to reveal a dark hole in the ceiling from which the largest laser I had ever seen dropped down.

I couldn't move. I was frozen stiff with fear. My pitifully short life flashed before my eyes as another boop sounded and a bright light cut off my senses.

Part III

I thought I was blind. I opened up my eyes and blinked several times, but I still saw nothing. I noticed I was lying on the floor and rolled over. Looking around I saw a thin sliver of light a few feet away from me where the door to my cell met the ground.

I groaned and sat up. It felt Like I was sitting in goo. I stood up and felt my way to the other side of the tank, but the floor and walls felt covered in slime. I touched my arm and it was covered too. Just as I was starting to panic, the door opened and light spilled into the room. I looked down and saw that my body was covered in a slimy green gunk. I yelped and fell backwards into the wall. Lights danced in front of my eyes.

*This is the subject we zapped a few hours ago, Master. It seems to have not reacted well with the experiment.*

A deeper and more chilling voice replied. *Tell the technician to adjust the caliber of the ray gun. We don't want anymore mistakes like this one.* The door swung shut and I was engulfed in darkness once more.

That was the first and only time I came face to face with Dr. Frank Sloth.

Meep!
The next few weeks went by in a blur of conscious and unconscious streaks. I remember being brought back to the laser twice with no dramatic changes and spending weeks shut up in the darkness with no contact but a hand that pushed rotting food into my cell twice a day. The prison ward soon got so crowded with test experiments that they started doubling up inmates. That's how I met Ritawang.

He came in as a small and frightened orange Grundo, but was soon transformed into a formidable ally. It was only after his escape that he took on his current fiery appearance.

Another ally came in the form of a guard, Gunther, who was only being forced to do Sloths bidding so as to escape our fate. We talked often during the hours of his shift.

The three of us (Rita included) discussed escape often, but could never formulate a full plan in the short hours we had together. One day, however, our door opened to reveal Gunther, motioning us to follow him. We dashed out and helped him as he unlocked the doors to all the cells along the ward.

The amount of Grundo captives was astounding. 105 of us crowded into the narrow corridor as our friend relayed instructions on how to escape to the lower levels of the Station. Leading the way, Rita and I shepherded the frightened Grundos along the hallways.

We thought we were home-free, until we rounded a corner and found armed troops waiting for us. Panicking, we spun around only to find more troops piling into the hall behind us.

We were trapped.

Part IV

What happened next is still confusing to remember to this day. The snatches that I remember are this :

Running. Screaming. Pushing. A Blaster going off.

Pain lanced up and down my arm as I cradled it. I looked to my left and right and saw jumbled masses of Grundos and the metallic black suits of Sloths troopers. I'd lost Ritawang.

I was running headlong down a cramped corridor and several Grundos followed me. Shouting. More blasters. I pushed open a metal grate in the wall and crawled through. Screams. I crawled faster. I didn't look back.

The first coherent memory I can recall is sitting in a low, dusty bunker with wires hanging from the ceiling and pipes running across the floors and roof. It took me a while to realize the true nature of my situation.

I was alone. I had no idea where I was, and I had no one to help me.

I sat in that bunker for hours thinking of a plan, but none came to me. I adjusted my position and pain shot through my arm. I looked down and saw I was bleeding a sick green goo from a long, but shallow gash. I ignored it and looked around for something. Anything.

A hole. A few feet away from where I sat, a medium sized hole was cut into the ceiling. I clambered over tubing and multi-colored wires and then hoisted my self up.

The room I found myself in was spacious, dark, and thankfully deserted. I explored the area and found computer consoles. At first I thought they were dead, but then I saw a blinking green light.

Made by npet01
I logged onto one, and the screen split into 9 squares, most of which were blank, but some of which had video feed on them. Somehow I'd found a link to the security cameras around the space station. This is how they found us. The images changed to another set of cameras. Then changed again. On the third rotation I recognized the hallway where I was being kept. Quickly, I clicked the image and brought it full-screen. As soon as I clicked, sound started coming from speakers at either side of the console, which emitted puffs of dust.

*...gathered the remaining escapees, but two are still eluding us, Captain.*

Two guards walked into the cameras view.

*Two Grundos shouldn't be much of a problem for you Sergent, unless your incompetence knows no limits. Who are the two that are still loose?*

*The two subjects stayed in that,* he pointed to the cell that I and Rita had shared, *cell, near the end. Give my men time and we shall capture them safely and securely.*

*I don't care about their safety Sergent. Just capture them!*

The two figures retreated out of the cameras view at the other end of the corridor. They didn't have Rita. He was saved. Relieved, I looked at the cells that lined the hall and one thought came to mind. I have to save them all. I cast my sight around the deserted room. I will build my headquarters here and rescue all that I can. This will be a place of safety and resistance. Resistance.

And I did just that. I led missions to the cell block and rescued the Grundos imprisoned there. I brought them back here, to The Resistance, and taught them to fight and heal and live their lives again. And I've been doing that ever since.
