Sleepwalker_9

Hello icewalker_9 !

I am SleepRuki the Ruki. Rukis originally come from the Lost Desert. Some people think its a very dull place, but the Lost Desert can be masses of fun. There are still many places that are unexplored and you will always find something new if you look closely enough. I am here to try to help you on your adventure and guide you through the Lost Desert Temple of 1,000 Tombs.

Temple of 1,000 Tombs

Temple of 1,000 Tombs at Sunrise

The temple background switches between the pictures above during NST times through the day although there seems to be no difference within the tomb.

For those brave enough to enter the Temple of 1,000 Tombs, I would strongly suggest you make a map as you travel deep within its chambers. The map I made is below, unfortunately, it will not be of much help to you as the layout is different inside for everyone.

To make a map similar to above use the standard MS Windows program PAINT .

Instructions how to Map:

Go to the Temple and when you see the first set of 5 doors take a screenshot.
press ....PRT SCRN .... (this key is normally just right of the F12 key on your keyboard)

Open the program .... PAINT (click .... START .... PROGRAMS .... ACCESSORIES .... PAINT)

Paste the screenshot into Paint .... CTRL V

You should now have a screenshot of the whole page infront of you in the Paint program.

Now to crop the image. In the toolbar running down the left side there is a dotted star and dotted square.

Click .... DOTTED STAR .... and then .... DOTTED SQUARE .... this will now let you drag a dotted box around the image you wish to crop. (include doors and any arrows left and right of the doors)

press .... CTRL C .... (copy)

press .... FILE .... NEW .... (it will ask you if you want to save click NO )

press .... CTRL V .... (this will paste the cropped image)

Next to resize the image as it is still way too large.

press .... IMAGE .... SKETCH / SKEW and reduce the .... HORIZONTAL & VERTICAL .... settings from 100% down to .... 30%. click OK.

Now save and number the image into a folder. press .... FILE .... SAVE AS number the image 1 and if you have the option select .... GIF .... format as the file size will be a lot smaller.

Now go back to the doors in the temple and click on the arrows left and right, taking screenshots of them and repeating the process above, numbering them in sequence. When you have completed all the screenshots in that first line you can start joining them together to make a map.

open .... PAINT

press .... FILE .... NEW

Now to resize the canvas and make it very large so that you have lots of room.

press .... IMAGE .... ATTRIBUTES .... and change the .... WIDTH and HEIGHT .... to .... 2500 x 2000 .... and click OK

next press .... EDIT .... PASTE FROM .... find the folder with your images and select image number 1. Now drag it into position in the center of the canvas.

next press .... EDIT .... PASTE FROM .... find the folder with your images and select image number 2. Now drag that into the correct position and when you have all the images in their correct order on the map save it.

press .... FILE .... SAVE AS .... name it .... TEMPLE MAP .... and click OK.

Make a back up copy too every so often, just incase you make a major mistake somewhere along the line. name it .... TEMPLE MAP BACKUP

Now go back to the Temple and venture down an empty corridor to the next line of doors and repeat the process above.

After adding your second line of doors onto the map you can start linking the corridors together with colored lines.

Select the .... DIAGONAL LINE tool in the paint toolbar on the left .... select its line thickness .... choose a color from the chart at the bottom and draw on your map. If you make a mistake you can erase the line using the .... ERASER .... (located just under the dotted star).

It is quite simple and fun to to make your map, although it will take several hours to map all the Tomb. Soon as you enter the Tomb, make a note of the 5 doors/ corridors that you see (note their shape, colour and the hieroglpyh above the door). Next click on the arrows either side of the door and map all the doors you see in your first line. When you have completed the first line, enter into an empty corridor to the second line of doors and repeat the process. Note where the corridor leads to and try to find the correct corridor back to the line you just came from and then you can link them with a connecting line. Then try another corridor and gradually work your way deeper into the Tomb until your map is complete.

If you enter into a library, you will find 4 scrolls to read, but this will lock you out the Tomb for 12 hours.

Do not enter into the jewelled doors as they are all traps and you will be locked out the Tomb for 1 hour.

The Hieroglyphs

The Traps
The Spike Trap

The door slams shut behind you and a trap door opens below your feet! You find yourself in a deep pit, dangling from a rope mere inches above sharp metal spikes. It's going to take you a while to climb out of here.

The Crush Trap

The door slams shut behind you and the walls begin to move toward you! It's going to take all your strength to hold them off until the mechanism is disabled...

The Jelly Trap

Your New Sand Pet

Do not worry as the effects are only tempory and your pet will dig his way out within the hour and be back to normal.

Fortune Teller

I've been expecting you."

Well, she's not creepy. Not creepy at all.

Perhaps you can help me," she says, staring at you intently. "I've discovered this Mysterious Tablet during my travels. Unfortunately, there are quite a few pieces missing. Can you find them and bring them to me? Once the pieces are recovered, the inscription can be translated. I'm sure you of all people will want to know what it says." Her gaze is even more intense than it was when she began talking, if that's possible.

Me... why would I want to know?

Who cares?! This is a chance for adventure! Maybe you should help her find the pieces.

The Mysterious Tablet

The mysterious tablet looks like it has several pieces missing. What could the symbols mean? And where are the missing pieces?

Each persons Tablet has a different set of Hieroglyphs.

You find yourself once again entering the fortune teller's tent.

So... you've returned," she says. "Something remarkable is happening. I am receiving many images in my crystal ball, images of strange, distant places..."

I see ancient pharaohs laid at rest.

What could that mean? The fortune teller gazes at you expectantly. The Mysterious Tablet sits quietly on a table.

You ponder for a moment over the clue........ Could this be something to do with Pyramids? ......You decide to run off to play a game of Pyramids and see. You're game finishes and you collect your np's and suddenly a Parchment appears before you.

The Parchment

Each Parchment obtained has a different set of Dots, Hieroglyphs, Shapes and Colors in each column and everyone will have a different parchment to the next person.

You race off to the Temple with your map that you made earlier. Looking at the parchment again you decide to read down the column with one dot above it, after all this is the first clue.

1 Dot ...... Yellow ...... Oval ...... Ra (setting sun) Hieroglyph

Looking at the map you search for the door and find it almost instantly. A Yellow Oval Door with Ra above it ...... Into the Temple you race to the door.

You take the dirty piece you have found to Donny's Toy Repair Shop ....... if anyone can fix it Donny can.

The item disintegrates on Donny's workbench, leaving a pile of useless sludge!

Sorry it didn't work out, but I tried me best. But it sure is a pretty pile o' sludge, innit?"

You have received:

Pile of Sludge

Oooops well usually he is pretty good. Back to the Temple you go...... that was lucky another piece suddenly appears in you're inventory.

Lets try Donny's Toy Repair Shop again!

Donny manages to repair the item!

Ha! I told ye I could do it! Now begone, ye fur-bitin' good-fer-nothin' prawn."

You have received:

Hieroglyph Fragment

Running back to your Mysterious Tablet with the missing pieces, you try to add the piece...... it fits perfectly!

It seems like this Fortune Teller knows something after all. Lets pay her another visit and see if she can come up with another clue.

You will receive a New Parchment after completing each clue.

For "Clue 1" you read down the column with "1 Dot" to find your Door.
For "Clue 2" you read down the column with "2 Dots" to find your Door.
For "Clue 3" you read down the column with "3 Dots" to find your Door. etc.

The Mysterious Tablet is Complete

Return to the Fortune Teller

You've found all the tablet pieces! Remarkable!" The fortune teller gazes into her crystal ball for a moment. "But what does it mean? These glyphs and their order mean nothing to me. I'm a fortune teller, not a professor of ancient languages! We must find some way to translate them. You can look at the Mysterious Tablet again if you like."

Once you have all 12 of your missing pieces added into the Tablet.... go to the Lost Desert Plot Comic.

The Comic

The Hieroglyphs from your tablet are hidden in the Comic in Chapters 1 - 3. Run your mouse over the Comic pages and when you discover a hidden Hieroglyph it will light up. You must left click them slowly in the exact order they appear on your completed Tablet. Be careful not to double click or you will have to start over.

Chapter 1:

Chapter 2:

Chapter 3:

You are now eligible to use LDP - What does it
mean?
as an avatar on the NeoBoards!

Now that you've examined the symbols, the meaning of the tablet slowly becomes clear.

The translation reads:

The prince of Qasala will steal away with the city of Sakhmet

Everyone will have a slightly different translation, as all tablets are different. You must use your own translation when speaking to the statue.

Finding the Statue

Now that you have translated the Tablet, its time to find the Faerie Statue hidden inside the Temple. It appears that everyone has 1 statue hidden behind a jewelled door in the tomb.

Now to find your statue, you have to decypher the riddle on the page where you see the tomb.

Temple of 1,000 Tombs

My riddle is:

Window into the soul
Kingdom of the lightgiver

Riddle Decoded

Banks of the mighty river (green)
Blinding radiance of the sun (yellow)
Bright guardian of the night (silver)
Kingdom of the lightgiver (blue)
The waking dawn on the dunes (red)
Thunderous clouds obscuring the sky (black)

A humble portal of stone (rectangle)
Mouth of the river (triangle)
The aspect of a star (pentagon)
Window into the soul (oval)

So now I have to search all the of 12 "Blue Oval" doors inside the Temple until the correct one that contains my Faerie Statue is found.

There are 12 Hieroglyphs and your statue will have one of the 12 stamped into its base. The pictures of them are quite dark as you can see below.

After Editing

If you cannot see the Hieroglyph on your pc, here is what you need to do;

  • Save the picture of the statue to your pc and brighten the image in your Photo Editing Program.

  • Or right click on the dark statue pictue and select Save As. This will also tell you the statues Hieroglyph. eg: statue_fer Fer would be my answer.

  • Alternativly, you can right click on the picture of the dark statue and select Properties. Next look at the URL Address and right at the end you will see the Hieroglyph name.

Nuria the Fire Faerie

The door slams shut behind you! A statue of Nuria, the fire faerie, stands in the center of the room. A plaque on its base reads:

Whosoever shall speak the prophecy here, shall be rewarded with treasures beyond compare.

Speak to the Statue:

The prince of Qasala will steal away with the city of Sakhmet

Suddenly a bright light shines from above...

It's opening!

A secret panel on the base of the statue slowly begins to open...

A silver glow issues forth from the compartment behind the panel...

Something seems to be moving inside the compartment...

What could it be? It's beginning to move closer...

You can't make out the shape... the light is too bright...

AND THEN...

ALL OF A SUDDEN...

OH NO! PILE OF SCARABS!!

Back to the Fortune Teller

You find yourself once again entering the fortune teller's tent.

You got buried in a pile of scarabs? How strange. I sure didn't see that one coming!" She glares at her crystal ball. "Piece of junk. That'll teach me to trust people at the Trading Post. Well, I guess you can still go back to the Mysterious Tablet . Maybe we can figure out something else."

If you try to return to the temple again later you will be confronted with the Statue of Nuria again and again asking you to speak to her. So to get rid of the statue, you tell it this;

SleepRuki says go away!

You speak to the statue, but nothing happens...

...except that a trap door opens beneath you, and you find yourself sliding out into the desert sands.

The temple remains silent before you, but now the door is closed and you cannot enter... at least for a little while.

Next time you enter the Temple, I promise the statue will not bother you again.

The Lost Desert Disappears

The Lost Desert

Prince Jazan in anger that Princess Amira refuses to marry him, casts a spell and transports Sakhmet and all its inhabitants into an alternate dimension.

Nearly all in the Lost Desert vanishes.

Back to the Fortune Teller

You find yourself once again entering the fortune teller's tent.

She calls out to you again as you turn to leave. "Oh! I almost forgot. I heard something about a few of Princess Amira's ministers, who were outside of Sakhmet when it vanished. They're going to get that new scroll repository finished so that they can use it as a library, and try to figure out how to bring Sakhmet City back. I don't know when the project is starting, though."

Tracks Appear in Lost Desert.
You decide to investigate these new tracks that have appeared in the top right of the Lost Desert. Where could they be leading to?

The New Scroll Repository

Scroll Repository - Access Gate

HALT!

Two hefty guards block you at the access gate to the Scroll Repository. "Only licensed contractors are allowed into the Repository site!" one of them bellows. "What's your business here?"

Maybe you should say something...

  • I know I'm late, but I'm here to deliver an important royal message."

  • You guys should drink more water before you get heat stroke."

  • I'm the food specialist for your herbivorous workers."

  • Have you thought about triple-glazing your wind*ws? It's fun and functional!"

  • I don't have the sand color yet! Don't you know who I am?"

  • I'm here to chronicle the construction of the repository

You select a message and try to get past the guards. Messages do vary from person to person, so if your message is not above do not worry.

Get lost!

The guards laugh. "A likely story! Get out of here, you're not permitted access." They block the way.

You return to the Temple of 1,000 Tombs. Maybe there is something that has been overlooked.

Reading a Library Scroll
You seem to have entered some kind of library.
Four scrolls are laid out on the table before you. Perhaps you should read one of them...
You tentatively step forward and take one of the scrolls.

Your pet reads the scroll and gains a little insight.

Then a trap door opens under your feet and you find yourselves thrown out of the temple onto the desert sands.

The guards nod. "That sounds reasonable. Go on in." They step aside and let you pass.

I can't believe that worked!

Scroll Repository

The Scroll Repository was partially buried by a freak sandstorm. The engineering crew needs your help to dig it out!

You! Get to work!

The foreman glares at you. "Well what are you just standing around for? Get to digging! That pyramid's not gonna unbury itself!" He hefts his cudgel and gives you an expectant look.

Grab a handful of sand!

You carry a handful of sand away from the scroll repository.

Handful of Sand

While excavating the handful of sand, you also found something else!

Sutek Muffin

Wow, they sure built the repository way out in the middle of nowhere!
It's going to take you a while to carry the sand back to civilization.

The rate at which you can return to the Scroll Repository depends upon the Agility/Movement speed your pet has gained in training. To clear the sand quicker select your fastest pet when visiting the Repository for work.

Slowly Uncovering Scroll Repository

It looks like the sand excavation is beginning to make some progress. But there's still a lot of sand to remove!

You! Get to work!

The foreman waves at you. "We're finally getting somewhere! Now get to digging, we ain't got all day!" He points at the repository, still mostly buried by sand.

Grab a handful of sand!

You carry a handful of sand away from the scroll repository.

Handful of Sand

Scroll Repository is Almost Uncovered

The excavation is getting close to completely uncovering the scroll repository. Better keep digging!

You! Get to work!

The foreman absently swings his cudgel about. "We're making good progress now, almost there. Now get back to digging, you lazy worm!" He hefts his cugdel menacingly.

Grab a handful of sand!

You carry a handful of sand away from the scroll repository.

Handful of Sand

While excavating the handful of sand, you also found something else!

Dust Covered Sandwich

Wow, they sure built the repository way out in the middle of nowhere!
It's going to take you a while to carry the sand back to civilization.

Scroll Repository is Completely Uncovered

The scroll repository has been completely uncovered. It stands gleaming in the sun. But... there doesn't seem to be any way inside. It looks like the engineers forgot to leave empty space for the scrolls!

Wow! The repository was buried under 104,034 handfuls of sand!

You! Take a 15 minute break!

The foreman actually grins for once. "Looks like we got the thing uncovered!" But the grin quickly turns to a scowl. "Too bad them stupid engineers didn't build the thing right in the first place. There ain't no space inside for scrolls! What kinda scroll repository do ya call that?!"

Work Begins Inside the Repository Removing Blocks

Now that the scroll repository is no longer buried by sand, the engineers in charge of the project have another problem -- when they built the pyramid, they didn't leave any space inside for the scrolls! The next phase of the project is to clear out rooms and corridors inside the repository, to make room for the scrolls.

You! Get to work!

The foreman jabs his finger toward the scroll repository pyramid. "Looks like you're gonna be haulin' blocks now. Five to a block! And don't let me catch you slackin', we gotta get this pyramid built fast." He taps his cudgel menacingly.
Go inside and haul some blocks!

Click on the map to move around. You can only move onto squares that are cleared (grey) and within line-of-sight. If you want to try to haul one of the blocks out of the repository, you need to be standing next to it (not diagonally!) and click on it.

Inside the Repository

WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU'RE DOING!!

The foreman runs over and thwacks you with his cudgel. "Don't touch that! That's a structural block! You pull that out, this whole place might collapse on us. Now get back to work!"

I guess we are not supposed to try to remove those ones. You start searching the Repository again and find a block with a Hieroglyph on it and so you decide to help trying to remove this one

The foreman rushes over, waving his cudgel at you. "Hey! I'm trying to keep things organized here, and you're off trying to push blocks that you aren't supposed to!" He pushes you away from the block. "Go sit over in the corner, and stop messing up my planning!"

Well no one told me I had to pick the block with my matching Hieroglyph from the statues base. At least I will know for next time. A few minutes tick by slowly and you decide to try to return to the Repository again.

How am I supposed to get any work done with the likes of you around...

The foreman sneers at you. "You just sit quietly there for a few minutes. I don't need you messing up my planning and organization any further!"

Finally after 30 minutes of sitting in the corner you are allowed back to work.

With a little more searching you stumble across another block in one of the rooms being cleared and it has the same Hieroglyph as on the base of your statue!! You realise this is the block I must help move.

Something falls out from behind the rock as it's moved...

Desert Paint Brush Stamp

Try to grab it!

The foreman stomps over when he sees you all trying to grab it.

HEY What's going on here??

The foreman snatches the Desert Paint Brush Stamp away from you. "Well, lookee what we found. Can't have you fighting over it! So I'll let you roll this hundred-sided die and see who gets it."

Roll the die

Let's see how you did...

You rolled...

Awww, looks like Kougaroo rolled higher. Tough luck. Now get back to work!" He waves his cudgel at you.

Back to the Repository.

The Repository

I better not see you working!

You're still tired from moving that last block. You need to wait a little while before you'll have the energy to move another one!

Finally after 1 hour of resting you are allowed back to work.

With a little more searching you stumble across another block in one of the rooms being cleared and again it has the same Hieroglyph as on the base of your statue!!

Back to the Repository and another 1 hour wait

The Repository

The scroll repository has had 4,330 blocks removed! But now the inside is nothing but bare stone and rock.

Whew! That was a lot of blocks!

The foreman wipes his brow. "Keepin' all those pets organized was some mighty tough work. I can't believe how many of them just wanted to push and pull blocks at random, or worse yet, try to collapse the pyramid by moving structural blocks!" He shakes his head. "But now it's just a bunch of empty rooms and corridors! Where are they gonna put all the scrolls? Dump 'em in piles?" He stomps away, muttering angrily.

In a tent to one side of the encampment, you see some activity.

Go check it out.

The Furniture Makers at Work

A team of Rukis hammers, chisels, and carves the giant stone blocks into various pieces of furniture.

The eldest Ruki notices you enter. "Hullo! Come to see what kinda furniture we're making, eh?" He points at one of the stone blocks in the middle of the tent. "You can take a look at our progress if ya like. You'd best get familiar with this stuff. You're gonna be the one carrying it inside when we're done!"

Completed furniture:

Stand lamps: 24
Scroll racks: 106
Benches: 7
Tables: 4

The quantities of furniture slowly being made, start to rise

Back to the Fortune Teller

You find yourself once again entering the fortune teller's tent.

She calls out to you again as you turn to leave. "That scroll repository they're building sure looks like it's gonna take a while. Sakhmet City is trapped in another dimension, plagued by zombies -- or so I hear -- and meanwhile, the remainder of Neopia quietly watches a handful of Rukis making furniture. Remarkable."

The Furniture Makers Relax

The furniture sits in haphazard piles, all sanded and painted. The Rukis relax on some extra benches, taking a break after all their hard work. The eldest Ruki sees you and waves. "Well, we're finally done with all the furniture! Even had some extras. Ah, but before you can put the furniture into the repository, the interior decorator is figuring out where everything goes. Putting down chalk outlines, so I hear." He leans back and sighs. "This oughta be the easy part!"

Completed furniture:

Stand lamps: 205
Scroll racks: 891
Benches: 64
Tables: 34

Moving the Furniture

The eldest Ruki notices you enter. "Ah, come to pick up some furniture, eh?" He points at huge piles of painted stone furniture. "Just grab one and take it to the temple. Someone there'll tell you where it needs to go."

Pick up a piece of furniture:
Scroll rack Stand lamp Table Bench
