Single-Species
This section includes outfits made with mostly single-species items. Keep in mind that the estimated values listed were current as of this page's last update, and will most likely change over time.

Outfit #1
This is a great example for a bright, full outfit that's not too costly. Replacing the
Flower Cart with one of the alternatives won't affect this customisation's quality. If you can afford it, I would even
recommend on getting
Illusen's Potted Orchid instead! Creating a beautiful garden outfit without having to empty your pockets is indeed possible, as shown.
The lesson:
Coordinate colors! The key is to make sure there's a concept binding them together. Here, the trees in the background fit the Shrubbery, and the flowers on the gazebo and bushes match the Nimmo's dress.
Outfit #2
Here I challenged myself to dress up a Moehog. You may disagree, but I think it turned out pretty well. This is my attempt to show that even pets that are difficult to customise in general, can be dressed up quite decently with Neopoint wearables without having to compromise on the result. Even a Moehog can pull off the
starlet look!
The lesson:
Challenge yourself. It'll help you become more creative.
Outfit #3
This outfit would look great on
both male and female pets. I like how the
Daring Adventurer Hat removes the Acara's horns, though the
Acara Treasure Hunter Hat would do the job just as well. I think the background I chose for this outfit plays a somewhat big role in it, so if you're able to get one, you definitely should. Another great alternative for it (other than the suggested above) would be the
Beautiful Desert Oasis Background.
The lesson:
Drink plenty of water.
Outfit #4
There are no Neopoint items in this outfit that are very expensive or difficult to obtain, hence no alternatives are suggested. Unfortunately, The
Sun Shower doesn't have an obvious alternative. The only Neopoint wearable with a similar look is the
Stately Tree Foreground; the sun hitting through its leaves creates a similar effect. I also wanted to demonstrate just how useful Paint Brush clothes can be. The truly enhance this customisation's theme.
The lesson:
Don't spill your coconuts!
Outfit #5
Here I was trying to make the common theme a bit more interesting. By adding the
frame and caution tape, I turned it into a danger zone inside the hive, which I think is a nice twist. The alternative wings give the outfit a more mechanical feeling, which is another way to differ it from similar themes.
The lesson:
Remember; a commonly used theme can still be interesting. Adding simple items that aren't often used is one way to go about it.
Outfit #6
Not all gentlemen live in a fancy house or a mighty castle. This particular one happens to reside in a fungus cave, which he seems to pull off quite well. I tried my best to find an alternative to the
Suave Wavy Brown Wig, but sadly I didn't succeed. The
Usul Native Headband fits nicely, though it doesn't follow the theme as well.
The lesson:
Pay attention to detail. Wearables such as the
Muddy Boots may not be the focus of the outfit, but they sure contribute to it.
Outfit #7
Lennies are difficult to dress for me, but I tried to do the best I could with my limited options. I wanted to demonstrate (again) how a
very expensive item can be replaced with a different one in order to cut down in the outfit's price. I truly do love the
Star Gazing Background, but its price makes it a luxury for the majority. If your closet is small, a wiser choice may be spending those Neopoints on a variety of cheaper wearables. If you used the cheapest background from the alternatives suggested, the entire outfit would cost approximately
458,000 NPs. Big difference!
The lesson:
Spend your Neopoints wisely. Think about the usefulness of the item before purchasing it. How many of your pets can wear it? How many different items in your closet go well with it? These questions are important to ask yourself before buying an expensive wearable.
Outfit #8
This outfit is about making the most out of single-species wearables. While using an entire set together might work at times, taking apart different sets and putting together a new one is much more
fun. Here I combined the
Aviator and
Peasant sets; taking what worked from each one.
The lesson:
Mix and match. It's difficult to be original with customisation; It becomes even harder if you relay on using single-species sets as a whole. Try different combinations!
Outfit #9
For those of who you aren't able to get the Hero of Neopia Foreground,
Cover of Darkness Foreground will do the job. I would suggest using a
Shiny Caution Tape Garland (one of the few animated NP items) to add more life to the outfit. The
Smug Bug Net Trap could also look nice combined with the items suggested above. The most important thing to notice about this outfit is the
frame. For 100 NC, it sure adds a lot!
The lesson:
Make the most out of your Neocash. If your budget is small, it may be wise to buy items that fill up more space. Handheld items and tiaras are nice to have, but they're usually not the focus of the outfit. Items that stand out such as foregrounds and backgrounds should be your top priority.
Outfit #10
This brave Krawk picked the wrong day to go mountain climbing. The slippery, sharp cliffs aren't very forgiving! A good alternative for the
Rainy Day Cloud would be the
Cover of Darkness Foreground. I recommend getting the cloud if you can, since it has an audio track which adds to the atmosphere.
The lesson:
Make the most out of trinkets. Even a simple one like the
Rainy Day Cloud can make a difference.
Outfit #11
Sadly, in this case, you can't make the outfit much cheaper without compromising on the quality. If you don't mind that, you could replace the
Lab Assistant Ogrin Coat with an
Amusing Ogrin Jacket , which would bring down the price to
425,000 NPs.
I tried incorporating items that were a prize for an event of some sort, ones that may be hidden deep in your closet! The
Snot Cobweb was a prize for beating AAA on February 20th of the 2010 Daily Dare. The
Dripping Toy Slime Gun was a prize for beating Lulu on March 9th of the 2009 Daily Dare. The
Resistance Headquarters Background was given out as a prize in the plot "Return of Dr. Sloth".
The lesson:
Events and plots often give out Neopoint wearables! I recommend on participating in them. They're not only fun, but rewarding as well.
Outfit #12
This cute Mynci just came out from a dip in the
Hot Springs. She still hasn't noticed that a Lily Pad is happily sitting on her head! If you wish to replace the
Lily Pad Flower Hat with something else, the completing hat of this outfit is the
Mynci Spa Towel. Sadly, a similar Neopoint item to the
Hot Springs doesn't exist, but you could try using an
Anubis Fountain instead.
The lesson:
Try to spice up pet-specific clothing sets by adding items with a similar motif. Be creative!
Outfit #13
This brave Ranger is guarding the remains of what used to be a mighty castle. If the sharpened fence and the rocky ground won't stop his enemies, he will! As you can see above, there are several great alternatives to the
Woodland Archer Cape and Quiver. The
Crumbling Ancient Castle Background is a tad pricey, but definitely worth it. If you can't afford it, the
Tyrannian Volcano Lair Background is a decent, slightly cheaper alternative.
The lesson:
Don't always try to make the cheapest outfit. Unfortunately, some wearables don't have an equally good, cheaper alternative. In which case, you shouldn't settle for second-best if the difference in the price isn't significant.
Outfit #14
The
Deluxe Lost Desert Tent is a magnificent wearable that I wanted to create an outfit with. My goal was to enhance its beauty, yet not have it stand out too much. A cold evening in the desert is the perfect match for the tent's warm colors. If you can't afford the
Lost Desert Silhouette Background, try the
Inside the Lost Desert Background. If you use that background, I recommend on using the
Campfire instead of the
Shiny Obsidian Foreground; the colors simply match better.
The lesson:
Decide in advance which items in your outfit you want to stand out. Enhance their beauty, but remember to add plenty of other interesting items. Aspire to make all the items blend in together, and for each to be eye-catching.
Outfit #15
The
Piles of Books Foreground is one of the best inexpensive foregrounds out there. If you're on a low budget, I highly recommend on adding it to your closet. If you can't afford
Xandras Library Background, both alternative backgrounds suggested above would make a fine replacement.
The lesson:
Keep an eye out for freebies, they're often high-quality and useful. The
Piles of Books Foreground is a freebie obtainable at the Grundo Warehouse.
Outfit #16
Some time ago, a friend of mine told me she's having trouble customising her female Ruki. I could understand where she's coming from, since Rukis are difficult to dress. I decided to take it as a challenge, and try to make a pretty feminine Ruki outfit. If you can't afford the
Flower Cart, both alternatives suggested above are great!
Note:
I had to use the complete
Flower Vendor set, which might make some of you think less of this outfit. When customising with mostly Neopoint wearables, sometimes you simply don't have enough options. Certain pets have a big variety of clothing sets, which enables me to mix-and-match them. In this specific case, it wasn't possible.
The lesson:
Understand your limitations. You don't have to re-invent the wheel every time.
Outfit #17
Bandits exist even in Moltara! This is a great example for using gender-specific items on the gender they weren't intended for. The
Little Red Riding Hood Wocky Shirt was obviously not made for male pets, yet it works here wonderfully! Some items intended for a certain gender look as if they were made to be netural. If you can't afford the
Hero of Neopia Mask and plan to get the alternative suggested above, I'd recommend on using the
Wocky Thief Shirt without the
Little Red Riding Hood Wocky Shirt. It creates a better color scheme for that mask.
The lesson:
Remember to keep in mind gender-specific items that look neutral. Don't go overboard with it, though.
Outfit #18
This lovely Scorchio has gone on a stroll during a cool autumn afternoon. If you're unable to get the
Sun Shower, using the
Stately Tree Foreground instead will create a simialr effect. I rarely see the charming
Autumn Country Road Background being used, which is a shame! It's afforadble, easy to work with, and has a nice color scheme. Same goes for the
Pampas Grass Trinket. It's slightly more difficult to customise with, but can look great in many outfits.
The lesson:
Don't get too comfortable with your closet. Every now and then, go through a list of wearables to see which ones you haven't tried yet. Experimenting with new things will help you become more creative with your outfits. If you keep using the same items again and again, you might start repeating yourself.
Outfit #19
While the
Hot Springs contribute to this outfit, they don't play a big role in it. It would look equally good without them - I recommend that you keep it in mind. To make the outfit more feminine, you can use the
JubJub Tulip Maiden Dress to replace the
JubJub Sailor Dress, or the
Yellow JubJub Bow to replace the
JubJub Sailor Hat. While there are alternatives to the
Giant Bubble Blower, they're not nearly as good for this purpose. In my opinion, other Neopoint handheld items lack the playfulness it adds to the outfit.
The lesson:
When you have have to decide between two wearables, don't consider only their price, but also their contribution to the outfit. Sometimes a single wearables truly does make the entire customisation.
Outfit #20
What a beautiful beach! This lovely Tuskaninny has gone on a tour to Mystery Island. I combined the Tuskaninny Tourist set with a different dress, since I feel it matches the scene better. The
Tuskaninny Tourist Dress would look good as well, and would also make a slightly cheaper alternative for the one used in the outfit.
The lesson:
Don't forget to pack sunblock.
Outfit #21
This Witch Doctor outfit is affordable, and could be used on both male and female Poogles. The
Mystery Island Silhouette Background is definitely worth investing in, since (in my opinion) it's the best Mystery Island themed Neopoint background out there. For those of you who can afford it, a
Shrubbery would make a great addition to this outfit.
The lesson:
Your pet's base color can be an inspiration for its customisation. In this case, the Zombie color is the perfect match for the Witch Doctor outfit.
