Siriken's entire life has been a history of luck, both good and bad. It was luck that led to him being promoted to a guard rather than executed after commiting a horrendous crime at fifteen, and luck which caused a prisoner, Rei, to decide to help Sera instead of destroying him. Siriken accomplished more in his life than any could have predicted, and all was well for a while. Luck was on his side yet again when Rhiedy made him immortal, but the tides changed when Gasha cursed both Sera and Kri into otters in order to get them out of his way. Now all that they can do is survive.

Life was going well for Kri - the woman of his dreams, a position he had yearned for, riches beyond his greatest desire, and even his own freedom - that is, of course, until Gasha turned him and Siriken and him into otters. Everything that he had held dear was torn out of his grasp, and he was left with nothing but an unwelcome ally. Kri fled deep into the water to hide from society and refused to come out, fearing for the state of everything he had loved. When he finally came to terms with his condition and emerged, however, he realized that some things were far beyond saving.
