INTRODUCTION
Introduction
The choice and use of weapons is a subject that gets a lot of people going. Different people have different ideas, and popular opinion often does not agree with fact. Prices are more commonly linked to gut feel than actual damage done in the battledome by a weapon. You can equip up to eight weapons, and it is important to get a blend of weapons that suits your (or your pets) battle strategy. Some people like all out attack, others like a strong defence, and others will like every shade between. It is also important to train your pet for the battledome as there is no point in having immense weapons if you pet has neither the strength to use the weapons, or the Hit Points (endurance) to fight for long.
In very broad terms weapons fall into the following main categories.
| Species Weapons |
Weapons that can only be used by pets of that species. for example the Iron Lupe Sword can only be used by Lupes. These weapons will also fall into the following categories |
| Multiple use |
As the name implies these weapons can be used time and time again in the battledome. |
| Semi-fragile |
Can break unexpectedly at any time in the battle dome. Are returned for your next battle. |
| Once-per-Battle |
Can be used only once per battle. |
| Single Use |
Can only be used once, then gone forever |
| Random |
Weapons having more than one characteristic, which appear at random. A Frost cannon can either do Icon damage or freeze. (They are also Semi-fragile, breaking once they have frozen) |
For the moment all I am going to look at the attack characteristics of weapons as measured in Icons. I am going to ignore pet specific weapons for now as too many people use the Secret lab.

The attacking strength of a weapon is measured in Icons. There are 7 types of Icon, which all do the same amount of damage in the Battledome. Damage (in Hit Points) is calculated by multiplying the number of Icons damage a weapon does by your strength boost.
When considering the purchase of weapons it is essential that you know the Icon damage it will do. Some weapons do damage using only one type of icon, and others do damage using more than one type. The advantage of these multi-icon type weapons is that the damage is hard to block, and much harder to reflect. (Does anyone know of a weapon that reflects more than one Icon type at the same time?) You need to devise your own strategy. I'm not here to tell you what weapons to use, I'm just going to tell you what the weapons do and their approximate cost. (Be warned prices fluctuate wildly especially when neopets is running a war)
Strength Boost
Each weapon will do a different amount of damage in the battle dome depending on the strength boost of the Pet using it. The boost levels are:-

This means a pet with strength 201 will do more damage with the same weapon than a pet with strength 199, who in turn will do more damage than a pet with strength 124. But a pet with strength 130 will do the same damage as a pet with strength 199.

This is a typical example of how weapons are displayed for review purposes. In this example we have chosen the Asparagus Dagger, a multiple use weapon that is available from the Hidden tower. The Dagger does 7 Icons attack minimum, 3 x Earth, 3 x Fire, and 1 Physical. It may do a further 1 or 2 physical icons damage at random. This means that it will always do at least 7 icons damage, but may do 8 or 9. In addition the Dagger will block three icons of dark attack. It has no special properties.
