What goes here?
Ideas rainbow_daydreamer thinks might be useful for TNT, and is considering whether to send in. Advice, comments, criticism and support are welcomed for any and all of them. If we've talked about an idea on the boards together and I like it, you might find yours up here too.
What doesn't go here?
Ideas I don't personally endorse-- if you want to tell TNT they should raise the price of lab map pieces, give free PBs to anyone with a Wocky, or parade around the office in Dr. Sloth's heart-print boxers on the Neocam, by all means go and make your own petpage.
The unrealistic, the unspecific, and the inevitable. Making every item of clothing in Neopia wearable is a good idea; so is combatting inflation and making a new plot. But the first TNT don't have the resources to handle at present; the second offers no useful advice on how to accomplish the task; and the third will happen whether it's asked for or not, and bothering TNT about it will just encourage them to do a rush job, which none of us want.
An idea was here and now it's not. Why?
I probably submitted it :) Keep an eye on the page to see if I have any updates.
The "Frozen Accountability" idea is now here!

On the Neoboards
What? A new board for all kinds of topics related to HTML, CSS, and graphics.
Why? Because such topics are the ones that the HC often lack the expertise to help with, and which consequently go unanswered, yet when a real expert stumbles across them they take seconds to solve. This could free up space on the HC and make sure the design questions don't get buried before they can be answered.

On the Neoboards
What? Split the Pound Board into two sub-boards, one for "Adoption" and one for "Trading".
Why? Not that I agree with pet trading, quite the reverse, but for the moment it's a fact of Neopian life. Unfortunately, the Pound board is often so swamped with trading topics that those with pets up for adoption have trouble making themselves heard. Separating the two would mean neither got in the way of the other.

Neopian Pound
What?A "charity" to feed and care for homeless pets while they're in the Pound. Users "buy" enough food to feed a specified number of pets, with a chance of getting an avatar out of their effort. The pets are fed at random.
Why? Inflation needs curbing, and pets in the Pound are all too often starving. Put the two of them together and you have a potential solution. The price paid to feed the pets would be a superb money sink. Some Neopians would donate out of generosity, others out of the desire to get an exclusive avatar. Either way, more Neopoints would be leaving the economy.

Default Species Petpages
What?An overhaul with nicer graphics and more neutral text.
Why? I've never understood why so many of the default petpages seem to assume every pet has an identical personality. Facts about the pet are fine, but why not tweak the page so that it's slightly different for a pet that loves, say, Reading and Learning as opposed to one that likes Hunting for Treasure? Not to mention that some of the default petpage text doesn't even make sense. The Tuskaninny page mentions a school, when all Neopets are currently homeschooled. The Poogle page has a "Poogle Song" that urges the reader to "Sing along from 'ooh, ee, ooh, ah'", when those words in fact appear nowhere in the song.

Explore Menu
What? A single page for people to read and view all the plots from Neopia's past, including the Meridell wars and the original Lost Desert discovery, as well as more recent things such as the Tale of Woe.
Why? Neopian history is a fascinating subject, yet oddly difficult to research. Some plots aren't even linked to from the main site any more. It'd be an education for newbies and a touch of nostalgia for older users.

Items
What? Make items that should have an obvious purpose actually serve that purpose
Why? Why is the Toy Sail Boat not a toy? Why can't the Broken Toy Sail Boat or the Broken Blue Mynci Puppet be repaired? Why are Pickled Olives and Chocolates inedible while snow, sludge and dung are all on the menu? The Learn-to-Paint set is a beautiful toy, but you'll never see your pet use it except in your imagination. Even as basic a toy as the Bear is not actually a toy at all. I'm not saying there isn't a place in Neopia for purely ornamental items, but if an item is obviously suited for a purpose, isn't it perverse to make that purpose unfulfilled?

Create-a-Pet Centre
What?Change the pet name randomiser so that it actually creates semi-normal-sounding names based on the first few letters the users suggests.
Why? There are positively oodles of untaken names out there. At the time of writing, nobody has used Imarien, Mivesh, or Trackles as a pet name, and those are just three off the top of my head. It doesn't actually take much imagination to put together consonant and vowel combinations that are plausible as names. So why does the randomiser throw up things like "b44_avabot_xz"? Why was my own darling Sharalik a heartbeat away from being "SharaliSharali123"? Come on, let's have some creativity. When people get embarrassed about the name of their first pet, where does that pet end up? Somewhere where your name is one of the only things that make a difference to your future. (Thanks to tilluke for reminding me of this one!)

Wheel of Excitement
What? Tweak some of the more pointless spaces so that they actually do something, or at least be a little more honest about them
Why? The "secret item" space has existed for as long as I've been a Neopian, and it has never done anything, apparently. And the supposedly random Neopoint prize indicated by the question mark is ALWAYS less than the 150 NP required to enter. C'mon, TNT. Either the "secret item" space should have some kind of random effect on your pets and the ? space should occasionally pay out more than you bet, or we need a little honesty. Change the spaces to "Nothing Happens" (as in Dice-a-Roo) and "Lose NP", why not? But seriously, I think we'd all be happier if "Secret Item" actually DID something.
Suggestions for "secret items" (these could be randomised): A new and exclusive Battledome ability? A free Key Quest token? Your score sends reset for a game you've played that day, similar to the "because you're nice and we like you" event? An avatar? A new illness? A medicine item (to combat inflation)? Site theme? Exclusive trophy? And that's just off the top of my head.

Don't know
What?A page where programmers can explain what they're working on.
Why? Hands up, who's sick of the conspiracy theories and mass panic every time there's a glitch on the site or something goes down for maintenance? Thought so. I know our programmers are busy people, but it'd be great if we could have a dedicated page explaining exactly what they're currently fixing, what temporary measures (if any) have been taken, and how long they expect to be working on each item. Currently, this kind of information gets out via the occasional editorial and the usual Chinese Whispers game of the Neoboards, which isn't exactly helpful or efficient. Wouldn't it make things so much calmer if, instead of the meaningless "This page is undergoing revision" text, you got a link back to a level-headed explanation of what was going on?

Caption Contest, Random Contest, Art Gallery, Storytelling Competition...
What? Include a small amount of Neocash as part of competition prizes.
Why? Neocash is awesome! But I imagine it's rather less so if you're under 18 and can only get it from Qasalan Expellibox. If TNT don't want to make NC items giftable for legal reasons, they could throw a few bundles of Neocash in with the prizes for things like Neovision, the Caption Competition, and the Random Contest. It'd encourage more creativity from players of all ages, which has to be a good thing, and give kids another opportunity to get some NC items of their own.
Edit, 09/Y11:The recent "Style Showdown" competition did have Neocash as a prize. While this is all very good, I'd still like to see more.

All wearable items' images
What? A small icon in one corner indicating whether the item is wearable.
Why? TNT already do this to show compatibility with 2.0 Neohomes, but that's still quite a niche market. Far more people are interested in dressing their pets, and while pages like Echoh are doing their best to pick up the slack, there is still an awful amount of caveat emptor, since in the shops there's no way of telling if an item is wearable. Once it's in your inventory there's a blue background, but not in the shops. This change wouldn't take that long to implement, as I'm sure TNT already have a list of what items are wearable.

Site Preferences
What? An option to NEVER have music played anywhere on the site, similar to the existing "kill all NeoHTML" option.
Why? Far be it from me to stop anyone from expressing their creativity. I'm aware that many Neopians are proud of their lookup or shop music the same way that others are proud of their customised graphics. However... for people with limited bandwidth per month, or worse, those on dial-up, embedded music can really ruin their day. I would guess that the majority of people who do put music files on editable areas don't realise that their favourite song is a 56k-killer. If there was an option to NEVER load music tracks outside of Flash games, the people who are really disadvantaged by music could act as if it wasn't there, without actually punishing those who love it for other people's bad connections.

Creation/Adoption
What? Allow users over a certain age (say, a year) to own five pets, while restricting those under four months to three.
Why? TNT has appreciated for quite some time that newer players, on the whole, are less responsible when it comes to adopting pets. But there are still far too many pets languishing on accounts that were abandoned during their owner's first week in Neopia. By restricting those pets' creation, room would be provided for a much wished-for and useful development: five pets per account for users over a certain age, whose commitment to the site is not in question. Though there are more veterans than newbies in Neopia, they tend to be more careful in creating pets, choosing the names they want in the first place, and more conscious of the option to adopt. Rather than flooding Neopia with new pets, this would, in my opinion, actually reduce their numbers slightly. It would also be a way of rewarding older players for their loyalty, without bringing MORE Neopoints into the economy.
Accounts/the Pound
What? If (and only if!), six months after its creation, an account has not been logged into since the day it was made, send the pets to the Pound.
Why? This one is a spin-off from the one before, based on the distressing tendency of newbies to make accounts, forget about them, and come back and make more. If an account has never been played with, what's the sense in the pet continuing to sit there? He or she may as well be bringing joy to someone else. NOTE: I am NOT advocating that this policy be applied to ANY accounts that HAVE been logged into since the day of their creation, before you scream at me. Much as I hate the way some owners neglect their pets, we're not playing Tamagotchi here.

Pet Central
What? Set a PIN on the option that converts a UC pet to make him or her customisable. (Idea suggested by zoe820)
Why? With PINs now active on the Pound, it's now near impossible for a scammer to steal a pet if s/he gets into an account. Unfortunately, some scammers will take any avenue they can find to upset the account owner, and that might include making irreversible changes to the pets on the account. Since converted pets can't ever be unconverted again, wouldn't it make sense to set a PIN on this important change, too? Also proof against inquisitive little sisters who think that Werelupe would look super in a dress. ;)

Neopian Shops
What? Make giftwrap for Neopoint items, similar to that implemented for NC ones, into which items worth over 200 NP could be placed.
Why? Two quick words: Money Sink. It'd be like a smaller-scale version of the Mysterious Valentine's Card, except usable all year round, by everyone. Shiny gift boxes for presents would make gift-giving really special, and it seems unfair to restrict it to the NC Mall users. A 200 NP+ limit, like the one on auctions, would mean people couldn't frustrate others by throwing giftwrapped boots.

On the Neoboards
What? Instead of the linking system we have now, allow people to link simply by pressing a button and entering whatever would come after http://www.neopets.com/ -- "~Leto" for http://www.neopets.com/~Leto, "s/" for the FAQ. Make the links appear in a special format that couldn't easily be replicated, perhaps with a special "link icon" to show their legitimacy.
Why? 400 characters is not a lot, and typing in long links takes up a fair amount of that space. This would be much quicker to write, and even better, you would ONLY be able to link on-site with it; once the button was in place, it'd be easy to block links typed in the old-fashioned way, and if they DID get through, they wouldn't have the "link icon". Safer for everyone.

On the Neoboards
What? If a user has been posting on the Neoboards for a fair amount of time-- say, the ubiquitous four months-- without a warning or suspension, remove or reduce his/her repeat post time limit. Put it back if s/he gets a warning.
Why? The repeat post time limit is a fantastic anti-spammer weapon, and I'd eat my socks before advocating its removal across the board. But for those of us who wouldn't dream of spamming or breaking the rules, it's an annoyance-- especially for us HCers, who are always trying to get around as many boards as we can with help and advice. If a user hasn't been warned in four months, chances are s/he's on the straight-up, and there's no need to keep limiting hir posts. Please, cut the dead time and make us more efficient chatters.

Key Quest
What? An option to remove minigames from a game you're creating. Maybe replace them with extra good/bad effect (alignment, random) spaces? (Thanks briavel!)
Why? Imagine if you were trying to play Monopoly and everything was normal, except that if you landed on a card-drawing square, you never got a positive card, and sometimes just landing there would make the entire board fold up, scattering the game everywhere. Sound preposterous? You couldn't play like that? That's pretty much how a lot of us feel about Key Quest. If TNT are wondering why some people who could definitely use the NP and who would really enjoy playing games with friends aren't doing so, they have only to look to the minigames. The idea of "competition" pretty much dies when landing on a minigame space is pretty much a free key for someone who isn't you, assuming it doesn't boot you from the game altogether. There's a considerable number of Neopians whose computers CAN handle Key Quest but CAN'T handle the minigames. We need those things removed, stat. Making it an option for a game's creator (with perhaps a new icon to mark minigame-free games) would be a better idea than yanking them completely.
