Faerie Caves II: Fyora's Quest

Need help making a level? ^_^

First, before you can make you level, you have to get to the level editor.  Open up Faerie Caves II and you'll see five buttons:

Start Game - This starts the 19 levels of 'Fyora's Quest'.
Instructions - This explains the game.

Load User Level - This is to play other peoples caves.
Level of the Week - This let's you play the L.o.t.W.
Level Editor - This is the button that leads to level editor! ^_^

Now, first choose your element, though you may want to change it again later ^_^ The elements are number 1-7 on your keyboard.

1- Light Cave
2- Fire Cave
3- Dark Cave
4- Earth Cave
5- Water Cave
6- Air Cave
7- Fyora's Cave

*Elements*

Fire:
Try using fire for fast paced and narrow passage caves.

Earth: Earth caves are good for caves with lots boulders and almost no blank spaces.

Light: Light is good if your level contains a lot of dynamite or is a giant puzzle.

Darkness: Darkness is good for very challenging caves with many traps and/or puzzles.

Air: Air caves are great with many balloons, instead of boulders, and/or gates.

Water: If the cave you want to make contains a lot of gems and puzzles building up to a large finish, water probably is a good element.

Fyora: This is an annoying type of level if used wrong, but good for the right cave, look at the Fyora section.

*Fun, Theme, and Challenge:*

The three most important things in a cave are how fun it is, if the title and element go good with the cave (Theme), and how much thinking is needed (Challenge).

Fun:
A cave isn't very good without some fun!  Don't mix this with challenge or theme though, a level can be very fun and very challenging.  A level where you get no time to start isn't very fun, so unless you want to annoy people (Which some people want to, though isn't very fun.), then give them some time to look over the level and see what they are going to have to go thru.  Put a couple of places to stop in your level also, unless your level is meant to be challenging, then only one or two.  NEVER have no stops, a level where you don't even get a chance to stop at the beginning is very very rarely fun, and only a little if any.  Okay, I'm done with this paragraph, but keep in mind that the level of fun is what decides whether or not a person will play it for fun after the first time.

Theme:
This is as important as fun!  It doesn't make sense to play a Darkness cave filled with dynamite called 'Paradise Cloud'.  Always make sure your level makes sense, check the elements near the beginning for the general areas for the elements, of course it's your choice.  A Water cave with lots of dynamite called 'Underwater Volcanoes' would make sense, while the same cave with the Air element called 'Cloud Volcanoes' wouldn't make sense, since the only explosions in the sky are lighting and thunder.  So 'Thunder and Lighting' would make sense.  Keep in mind in Fire, the ground and solid ground are almost identical, while in Water, the ground and solid ground don't look alike at all.  So a level meant to have secret narrow* passages would be better being Fire then Water.

*-Narrow passages would belong better in fire because they most likely are to be hidden, and the ground and solid ground tiles are very similar in Fire, though Air or Earth would work almost as well also.

Challenge:
Challenge isn't bad, difficulty is.  Challenge is basically rated by how much work has to be done, and since Faerie Caves II is categorized as a puzzle game, it means how much thinking it needed.  Difficulty is bad, because it's how annoying a level is.  If you have a level with no resting points then that's difficult, while a level with many puzzles is challenging.  To avoid confusion, a level with many resting points is easy.  I think I'll just put a small rating thing down...

Difficult----- 0-2-Very annoying or Impossible, usually a level isn't fun when difficult.
Easy--------- 3-6-Easy levels are  low on puzzles but fun, they usually are very fun when 5 or 6.
Challenge- 7-10-These contain many puzzles and are very enjoyable.

Just remember that rating list and you should be able to do fine on the level of challenge. (Oh and remember, ten's the best. ^_^)

Fyora Caves:

Fyora caves are the most annoying level possible because most people don't realize a block appears in any open space that you just was.  This is good for a type of maze when you have to get items in order to finish.  Like say a maze with three treasure in front of the door and you have to get all the keys along with the door key without crossing the same line twice.  Last thing to say... always make sure it's possible to finish. ^_^

*Traps and Puzzles:*
(I could never move as quick as in the animations by the way, lol)

Boulders or Balloons: An easy trick that even I fall for occasionally is to place a piece of ground or a gem and place it over a balloon or under a boulder.  Of course in order for the trick to work they have to move upward or downward so placing it in a two square deep hole is a good idea.
How to avoid/exit this trap: If there's a exit within 3 squares (with the boulder you can manage 4-5 sometimes) to the left or right you can hurry up or down so many squares and enter it just as the balloon or boulder passes you,
Advanced trap: Usually the boulders or balloons traps is so if people don't look ahead and mess up, wanting to get a gem or just aren't concentrating.  After people avoid it, make the exit they go into spikes.  For even harder make spikes and then a gate, so if they go passed the spikes they get trapped, and then the balloon or boulder could hit a switch to close the gate.  Make sure there's still a way to win though.  Maybe after the gate a Row of Spikes trap?

***

Boulder Stacking:
A very hard puzzle to figure out when two boulders are next to each other and you have a goal like activating dynamite to get thru a path.  This generally is hard to get thru because most people forget about pushing boulders upward.
How to avoid/exit this trap: In most of this type you have to push a boulder up to activate the dynamite or something from the side and then exit thru the left, though this may vary from cave to cave.
Advanced trap: None, at least not one I can come up with ^_^

***

Row of Spikes: Very common now, though very difficult if used if a long line.  Turns add even more difficulty! ^_^
How to avoid/exit this trap: There is no exit, just be prepared to run very fast.  It's helpful to look over the running area for false passageways (dead-ends) and for gems, ground, keys, or treasure, because if you stop on the square they are on you can rest.
Advanced trap: Try mixing the Row of Spikes with some other traps.

***

Item Cage: One of the most challenging traps of all, the item cage is nearly impossible to do.  You have to move extremely quick to get the item and exit before the door (the spikes) close on you!  You can only have one item in the cage otherwise it really is impossible to finish!
How to avoid/exit this trap: None, you just have to move very quick.
Advanced trap: None! This trap can't get any more challenging!

***

Alternate Path: Another trap that works if the person playing isn't concentrating.  If they just go for the key, treasure, or gem underneath the boulder and manage to dodge the boulder, a switch is activated which closes off all exits.
How to avoid/exit this trap: Go the 'Alternate Path' and push the boulder out of the way.
Advanced trap: Try putting the trap upside down and use a balloon and put a Row of Gates instead of one gate, so they can't run into the door..

***

*Sorry for no animation, but there was to much dynamite to make one, so just look at it for an idea on how it works.
Row of Gates: Use a row of dynamite next to a torch along with a row of open gates, having a boulder on top of the RED dynamite to fall on a switch.  This trap can be hard and can be easy, it depends how much dynamite there is and how many gates there is.
How to avoid/exit this trap: Run very quick thru the open gates before the shut!
Advanced trap: Right after the gates put a row of spikes to keep the person running.

Rubbish dump: First make a two square path and have either boulders above one path or balloon below another, basically just make it so they have to get in and out the same way. If they try to think most people will not look for the boulders or balloons moving! Also, use a lot of random things in it so it's harder to come up with a strategy.
How to avoid/exit this trap: Try and think of a way out... if that doesn't work try a couple of different ways into it...
Advanced trap: ^_^ Make a puzzle out of it, make it larger with fake passage ways, oh and have the door next to the starting point. ^_^

***

Balloon Gate: This is a puzzle that needs thinking in order to finish.  It looks as if the spikes are there just so you can only push the boulder off the button if needed.  If you push the balloon away to let the boulder fall on the button it sends the balloon to the top, it blocking the exit.  This can be used with a key and a treasure (The treasure where the door is) and a path beyond it.
How to avoid/exit this trap: Makes sure the balloon never block the way and remember not all the spikes are used.
Advanced trap: Why don't you change it a little, make an open gate close in front of the door, the door deeper then so the balloon can still block the door. ^_^
I got this idea from a part of funkey_monkey002's level ^_^

^_^ Now that I've explained everything needed I hope you can make an awesome level ^_^ There's way more Traps and Puzzles possible and I will be adding more as long as people keep making them! ^_^
