This is a guide to the Magma Pool. Please bear with me as I get it up to scratch.
I created this guide because I was sick of people giving mis-information to others about how to get their pet painted the colour Magma.
Editorial Week 433
TNT has addressed in an editorial one very important
detail. Hey, TNT! I have a question I've been wanting to ask: are we allowed to go to the Magma Pool and get a magma Neopet on our side account? I know it's random at the Lab Ray, but what about going to the pool? Thanks, and here are some cookies! (please leave out my username) ~ username removed
You may not earn the right to visit the Magma Pool on your side accounts, as this would also earn you Neopoints, but you are welcome to visit in hopes of sneaking past the sleeping guard, as there are no Neopoints rewarded for doing so.For further speculation on how you can *earn* access to the pool (on your main account) please read the main body of the guide.

Editorial Week 423
Summary at the end, scroll down.Hi, TNT. I was wondering if we are allowed to use the Magma Pool on side accounts. It seems okay since the pool doesn't give out any items or Neopoints, but I thought I'd better check with you guys to be sure. :) ~gingerfist
Yes, you are more than welcome to visit the Magma Pool on your side accounts. :)
Hello! Thanks for the new magma Neopets, TNT! I think the new pool is a great idea! Anyway, I can't seem to find the URL of magma accessories from the "deluxe paint brush set" (like the bowties from the Bruces and the collars from the Aishas). I asked someone who had a Bruce and she said she couldn't remove the bowtie of her magma Bruce. Is this a bug, or was it done on purpose so that we can't get extra customisation items from the magma Neopets? ~petitehirondelline
We doubt that this was intentional. D: We'll see if we can get an artist to fix it up after the holidays.Greetings, TNT! *hands out candy canes* I love the new magma Neopets! Why did some people not have to wait for the guard to fall asleep to get access to the Magma Pool? ~ventrilaquism
We guess the guard was impressed by them!Hello and Merry Christmas, TNT. *hands over pixel gifts* I have recently obtained a magma Grundo and noticed that the flamed outline of my Grundo seems to layer over top of the clothing. Was this because of the layering in the graphics? ~dashlene_grace2009
Yes, the fire that comes off the magma Neopets is on a different graphical layer.Hello, TNT! I absolutely love the little worms that we can collect in Moltara now and I wanted to ask if we can collect them on side accounts? I asked on the boards and was given conflicting answers: some people said it would be allowed since the worms are "no-trade" items, while others replied that it would not be allowed since they can be used to get a tradeable item. I'm not interested in turning them in for the wearable lantern... I just want to put them in my side account's Gallery! Could you please clear this up for everyone (and please remove my username)? Thanks! ~username removed
Sorry, but we have to ask you to please not collect the worms on your side accounts, as you can receive something that is tradeable from the quest. Summary:-You may visit the pool on your side account.
-You may customise non-magma pets with magma clothing, for the relevant species.
-There is a way to "earn" acess to the Magma pool
-The fiery outlines on Magma pets are slightly mis-coded.
-You may not collect Moltaran Worms on any account but your main.
Getting into the Magma Pool
There are puportedly two methods of gaining access to the Magma Pool. First and foremost I will explain the sure-fire, guaranteed way of (eventually) getting in, and painting your pet.
The Reliable Way: Finding your Time
Please note: The pet you wish to paint does not need to be your active pet. You will be given the choice from your (up to four) pets as to which one you wish to paint.
The guard always sleeps for a total of ten minutes a day, in two five minute intervals. For many but NOT
all people, the two five minute windows end up back to back,
for a total of ten minutes in a row.
The time(s) when he sleeps are different for everyone, but once you find the time it will stay the same forever, so remember your time (in NST) and you will be able to visit on any day, and even paint a pet a week should you so choose.
All of this means that the only sure way to find your time is to refresh every
five minutes at the magma pool
You can make this process more manageable by working in 'blocks' of any length you like, perhaps one or two hours at a time.
Write down the time you start, mark off every five minutes, and stop when you can't stand it any more. Try again for a different hour on another day.
How to be Welcomed by the Guard: Theories
Please Note: you may not use any of these methods on your side accounts, because they require you to complete activities that can or will earn neopoints.
As confirmed by TNT, you may try to find your free time (as detailed above) on your side accounts, but you will not be able to "earn" access without breaking the rules - don't try it!
There are several popular theories. Earning your way in may involve either:
Playing the Moltara-Themed Games.
Perhaps it is necessary to earn minimum scores, or even specific scores, in one or all Moltara-themed games.
Creating Moltaran petpets.
It's possible that creating a specific petpet (likely different for each acconut) at Tangor's Workshop will grant you access. Petpets are created from Miscellaneous Gears, Scrap Metal and Stone, Shiny Obsidian, and Red Moltite.
Here is a guide
for collecting items and creating petpets.PLEASE NOTE: I HAVE NOW CONFIRMED THAT CREATING PETPETS WILL NOT GRANT YOU ACCESS. I CREATED ONE OF EACH PETPET, CHECKING THE MAGMA POOL AFTER EACH ONE, AND DID NOT GAIN PERMANENT ACCESS. ALL PETPETS MAY NOW BE FOUND IN MY GALLERY.
Finally there is one last, much less likely theory, relating to collecting the multicoloured Worms in Moltara.
It is now generally accepted that these worms have absolutely nothing to do with getting into the Magma pool. In fact I highly doubt it. However a few people have reported getting into the magma pool in the ten minutes immediately after either acquiring all worms for the first time, OR collecting the Red Moltite for the first time. Reports vary about whether they were allowed by the guard into the pool, or if the guard was sleeping.
My theory is that they have merely gone in coincidentally at the right time for the guard to be sleeping, and assumed they actually earned their way in.
