A warm summer breeze brushes past your face. The beautiful sky settles in a gentle way. There is a glint high up in the clouds and you squint to see it. The form grows. It seems to be a lonely pteri, you think; but it gets bigger and bigger until you can see its graceful form, a draik! The wings arch high as it is almost upon you. Its scales are blue as cobalt and its mane is royal plum. What is most astonishing is its chest and belly, plated in pure silver.
It lands and you can tell now that it is female, though you are not sure why. She looks away as though she didn't notice you there staring, but then she swings around her head around only two feet from your face. Here eyes are big and her face is gentle. It is quite apparent that she is only a baby. Good-day, guest. Fanta told me you were coming," She sparks. You give her a puzzling look. "Yes, she is getting quite different in her old age, starting to see things before they happen. Her body stays young, but her mind grows old some days, she tells me. Did you come to ask about me?" You don't say anything and she seems to assume you meant to say yes. Well, I was born not all that long ago. But don't hold that against me! I've read as many books as I can get a hold of. In-fact, if you know of any good affordable books I could read, let me know what they are! I cant get enough of books. Anyway, silvermoon_fox named me Selu. Selu means the art of magic in the old elven language, she told me. I'm currently being raised by my aunties: Fanta254, Fang238, and Shaeniire.
The Beginning The usually sunny valley was tormented by throws of violent rain. It did not matter much to Attikava, whose thick grey fur protected him from the cold. His ragged cloak spun about him in the raging wind. It did concern him what caused this torrential weather. She must be truly upset, he thought to himself. Who was he to understand the pain of others. He was most often the cause of pain to those he came across. Blood stained his maw and claws. A mercenary, for sale to the highest bidder, though he rarely did it for the gold. This mission was quite different. It had pulled at his grisly old heart strings. The bidder had wished him to work differently, but there was no way Attikava could carry out the deed as bidden. The blinding rain gave way slightly so that Attikava could see the small cozy hut not twenty feet from where he stood. The thatched roof and hard pine walls creaked but did not waver in the harsh elements. Ropes swung from the eaves, having long given up the herbs and flowers they once held to dry. He did not knock. There was no reason to here. The heavy oak door opened with a weary push and he dragged his soaked body into the strangely warm hut. The door crashed shut behind him. All the sounds outside were muffled to near silence, but it was still apparent by the pines creaking of the violence outside. He shook his ruff, spinning water to the floor and back wall. The last of the water dripped down his scarred face to the wooden floor. The candle light was dim, but he was well adjusted. A small bluish green puff of fur cooed and pounced in front of the fireplace. Attikava smiled at his young niece Shaeniire who now took notice of her uncle, whimpering and jumping at his face, begging for presents like she normally would receive during his visits. Attikava's stern face melted at the sight of her. He felt guilty that this time he had neglected to bring her a toy as he usually did. He dug in his inner cloak pocket and pulled out a simple jeweled necklace. Shaeniire was far too young to appreciate such finery, but she seemed wildly fascinated the way that fire light danced off of the jewels. Attikava's attention drew away from the pup to the table near by. She was as beautiful as he ever remembered her. Her blue and purple fur still sparkled, though it seemed duller than usual. The fur under her eyes were matted with salt from tears. She looked on at him with such sorrow that it nearly killed him to see her like this. Ah, brother, what brings you out here to visit me on such an unpleasant evening," She faked a smile. She was at least trying. Attikava sighed, "My deepest apologies, Fanta. I heard about your mate's recent passing, but that is not why I am here." A look of great concern crossed Fanta's face and she wiped the fresh tears from her eyes. Attikava reached into the pouch at his side and pulled out a sparkling blue egg, about the size of a large mellon. It glittered in the candle and firelight as he set it gently down on the oak table Fanta leaned on. Her eyes grew wide. I was given charge of this egg by a prince in a far off land," Attikava explained. "He had me take it from a dangerous tomb south of the lost desert. My directions were to take it to a great Shenkuu lord, but after seeing it and seeing what I found in that tomb, I cannot do my sworn duty." Won't the prince and lord be angry with you once they learn what you have done?" She asked him with concern. I will turn down the job, say that I found it too dangerous and that they need to find a new mercenary or adventurer. I seriously doubt they can find another who can make it through the tomb alive to find out I took it. If so, there are few ties visible between us. I doubt anyone will ask you questions. I will take the secret to my grave if I have to." Why, Attikava? Why take such a risk? What did you see?" The old grey lupe sighed deeply. His body ached from the long journey, but he continued. "This egg holds an old breed of draik. There are an extreme few left in the world. They are extremely long lived, that is part of why I brought it to you to raise. We both know of your...inability to age. It is best that you care for it. These draiks hold a great magic, a power that can make or break this world. It was locked away because its ancestors did not feel they were pure enough to raise it to be what it needed to be. The species was at war with itself according to the records in the tomb. The good fighting the evil. They ended up eradicating each other in the the end. One of the eldest laid away the egg in hibernation to be found and raised when the world was a better place. I do not believe the Shenkuu lord's intentions to be pure. I fear that with his bidding, this draik could destroy all of neopia. That is why it is important that you bring it up. I know of no other place where the intentions will be nearly as pure as they will here. Keep her a secret as long as you can. I beg you." Fanta laid a paw on the shiny surface of the egg. It seemed to glow in response. A faint but genuine smile crossed her face. The pupils faded from her eyes and they grew wide and ominous. Attikava cringed. He disliked it when she did this. It made him uncomfortable not understanding. I sense that this is her destiny," Fanta's voice sounded deeper, more distant. "I shall name her Selu. We shall keep her hidden as long as we can. In time, she will come to the aid of the world and either make it... or break it." My Family Fanta
