Mutants in the Mist

My Journey Starts Here

I have packed my bags. Tomorrow, I will be travelling by air to a remote island West of the Neopian Borders called The Haunted.

From there, travel arrangements have been made by the locals. They seem rather excited by my arrival as I have been told by my agent. I look forward to setting up my equipment and getting started. This shall be a marvelous Endeavor.

Day One

I have arrived at my destination. Surprisingly in one piece. The locals thought it would be to my benefit to travel to here by air. What I did not expect was riding on the back of a Mutant Uni known as Cair.

At first, I thought it odd that I would need elbow pads, knee pads, wrist guards, goggles, a helmet, ear plugs, jacket, security harness, parachute, scarf, gloves and boots. But once I was in the air, I understood the necessary precautions they took.

This bad girl can travel at unbelievable speeds. Unfortunately I wasn't able to calculate that speed. When I grabbed for the radar with my right hand, she banked pretty hard making me drop the radar and hold on for dear life.

I did land safely, even though I was somehow catapulted from her back.

The villagers welcomed me with open arms and a ceremony is planned tonight in lieu of my arrival. What a warm and friendly place this is.

Day Two

The ceremony was, interesting. The villagers were dressed in marvelous, colorful costumes in which I believe were to represent the creatures that call this place home. I found some parts of the ceremony a little disconcerting when they depicted the Mutant Ixi as mischievous as the Mutant Mynci. Stealing their tools, food and water. I believe this to be a gross misrepresentation even though I was slightly amused. We were taught to believe that the Mutant Mynci and Mutant Ixi as curious creatures, merely interested in objects foreign to them.

On another note, I did have a sleepless night. There was a ruckus in the middle of the night, villagers were arguing rather loudly. I am exhausted but excited to get my day started. However my binoculars are missing and I believe they might have been borrowed by one of the locals. When I asked them if they knew where they were, they stuck their fingers to their heads, which I believe were to represent horns and yelled something that sounded like 'Icky-Icky'. I shall write this word down to translate later as soon as I find my pencil.

Day Three

I've set out today, into the woods, where the locals have spotted "A beast with horns". I am following a crude map they drew on a piece of bark, following landmarks to find a large boulder which took me just under an hour to find. I've set up there, my binoculars still missing in hopes to catch my first glimpse of a Mutant Ixi.

-Cont. Im in my third hour of waiting. No sighting of the mutant Ixi, however, I believe I distinctly heard the call of a Pteri, a few miles in. I have taken note of this and I will be planning a 3 day trip. According to the compass, this sound came from the North.

-Cont. I am excited to report that I have heard the cackle of the Ixi. A shy creature who has not yet shown his face. If I were to write down the sound I heard phonetically, it would sound something like "Ack Ack Ack Iki Iki Tsk tsk Tick."

Day Four

I have decided to record my entries instead of writing them down, for I no longer have pencils. This recorder shall be kept around my neck for security reasons. The villagers are adamant of not taking my things. I do not want to start accusing anyone, so instead have opted for a recorder that will be kept hidden.

-Cont. Currently, I am making my way, deeper into the woods with one of the locals called Jar who is known around these parts for their tracking skills.
Icki.
Jar is pointing to the ground now. It seems he has found some tracks that lead away from the village.
These are Ixi tracks Jar?"
Icki, Icki"
Jar is making horn gestures again and nodding his head. We are following these tracks further. It is a very very hot day today. The mosquito's are just literally, buzzing around my head. I cannot use any sprays because I've been explained that these creatures can smell them.

-Cont. It has been about...two hours and we have come to a stop along side, a very large, very impressive tree. This tree must be at the very least 500 feet tall, give or take. On the ground, there seems to be a nest of some sort. Twigs, leaves, large branches....there seems to be other items as well. A plastic cup, some berries, a watch. A rather large collection of necklaces and bracelets. It seems our mutant prefers items that sparkle. It has been known that some birds, do prefer items that are shiny. Perhaps this is the nest of a Lenny? I am going to take this feather our boy or girl has left behind to analyze it la...

Missus
*whisper* It seems that our mutant has made itself known. He is perched above us on the lowest branch of this tree. What a magnificent creature. What impressive plumage. What large talons....it seems he his spreading his wings right now...crab walking along the branch..
Jar, are you seeing this?...Jar?
It appears as tho my tracker is no where to be seen. I am going to back away from this nest very slowly as to not disturb him further.

-Cont. I am back in their camp.
Excuse me, yes, Sir? Excuse me. The tracker I hired Disappeared.
Muffled words heard
No, disappeared, as gone. He left me in the woods by myself. It took me over 3 hours to get back.
Muffled words heard
No thank you, I dont want the same tracker. I want a new tracker.
Muffled words heard
How much?!?
Muffled words heard
I wont pay that much, the other one was less than half that.
Muffled words heard
I want a tracker that isnt afraid of birds.
Muffled words heard
Birds.
Muffled words heard
BIRDS!
Muffled words heard
Thank you. I will be leaving tomorrow morning. Make sure they are at my hut by 6am.
Muffled words heard
6am.
Muffled words heard
6AM!!

Day Five

I am heading back out into the woods, with a different tracker this time. It was explained to me that even though Jar is an exceptional tracker, he has a fear of birds. I wish this was explained to me before I decided to hire him on.

This tracker really knows his terrain. He keeps crouching down, feeling and smelling the earth, looking for broken branches. I am very impressed. He has taken me in a different direction then the first tracker. I am very hopeful.

-Cont. It has been about an hour and a half. The mosquitoes are exceptionally affectionate in these parts...Tracker Joe, I call him tracker Joe because he has not given me his name, has stopped....He has gestured for me to stop talking...he is pointing up in the trees. Oh my stars...a mynci. This, this is incredible. I wish you could see what I am seeing right now. An adult male Mynci, perched in the trees. It looks as tho as he is eating something...berries perhaps. I think he spotted us. Yes, yes he has. Tracker Joe is insisting I remain quiet. I better do as he says.

The Mynci is, simply a marvel to look at. He looks curious..he is leaning forward, OH MY GOODNESS, Myncies can jump at a distance of what seems to be 15 feet!

Harsh tone is heard
Tracker Joe has informed me to remain quiet and that I should not move. How can I? I am just amazed, frozen in sheer amazement to the sight before me. The Mynci is climbing down slowly and with surprising grace.
It seems as though tracker Joe has dropped to the ground and is laying motionless. I shall do the same. I have read that if you drop to the ground and remain moitonless, Myncies are not hostile. They will come and investigate, but will become bored and leave.

whispers toneThe Mynci is about 10 feet away, approaching with grace and eaze. Tracker Joe is informing me to remain quiet...I think I shall do so...
