Q: What is an unconverted pet?
As most of you know, in April 2007, the site went through a major change. The
overall site layout was modified, and most importantly of all, our pets were
converted - in other words, re-drawn. It happened without warning and most pets
were converted automatically to fit the new looks.
However, owners of certain species/colour combinations (227, to be exact) were given an option to have their pets
stay the same instead of getting converted automatically,
because TNT thought the changes were more drastic for these pets.
The pets that remained unchanged are known as unconverted pets.
Because the main point of converting the pets was to make them customisable, unconverted pets cannot be customised with most wearable items.
Q: How do I know whether or not my pet is unconverted?
The easiest way to tell is to visit your
quick ref.
Under the 'Notices' section, there will be a message if your pet is unconverted - as
circled in the screenie below:

Q: Is there a way to 'unconvert' my pet?
As much as we'd love to...
there is no way to 'unconvert' your pet, or to
create an unconverted pet. Not even if your pet was originally unconverted
and you clicked on the "convert my pet" button. This change is PERMANENT, whether or not you were given a choice
to have your pet stay unconverted - so think carefully if you're considering pressing that button!
You will not have a chance to undo this decision!
Q: I have one of the pets listed below, but mine is converted. Why?
The pets that got the option of staying UC were painted before the re-draws. Any pet painted after the re-draws
is automatically converted.
Q: If I pound/transfer my UC pet, will he/she convert?
Fortunately, no. Savvore was brought to my account via transfer, and he's unconverted, just like before!
Q: If I paint/morph my UC pet, will he/she remain the old art?
No. If you change your pet's appearance in any way,
he/she will convert.
Note: According to a Neopian who mailed me recently, using a morphing potion that is the
same as
the UC pet's species and colour does not convert it. The example given was an UC Mutant Scorchio, who did not alter
after a Scorchio Transmogrification Potion was used.
Technically this is not really 'changing' your pet because the species and colour
remains the same, so it might mean that painting an UC
Royal with a
Royal PB
doesn't convert it... This is just a guess, though, so
I do not advise you try it. Haha. :P (
Many thanks!)
Q: What about if I change his/her gender?
If you use a Strange Potion to change your UC pet's gender, he/she will stay unconverted and change gender.
The art will stay the same. Say, if you used the potion on a Royalboy pet, you will not end up with a Royalgirl version -
merely a female Royalboy pet. The same goes with battling the Lab Ray
Scientist.
However, if you use the lab ray and your UC pet changes gender,
he/she will convert. And if the pet was UC Royal, you will end up with both
sets of Royal clothing for the species of your newly converted pet. Like I
said, there is no way to change an UC pet's appearance without converting.
Note: I have received word from a kind Neopian who confirmed that a gender-change zap from the lab does
not
convert an UC pet. However, if you zap your UC Royal and he/she changes gender,
your pet will be converted. (
Many thanks!)
Q: My pet was painted/created before the re-draws. Why is he/she converted?
As I've said before, only certain species/colour combinations were given the option.
If your pet wasn't one of those given the option, he/she was automatically converted.
Boochi Shields
Unless your UC pet is a
Krawk,
avoid having him/her as your active pet. Who knows when Boochi or the
Invisible Random Event will come? Krawks are safe as they cannot be Baby or
Invisible.

 |
Oh no! Where on earth is [petname],
you can't find him anywhere!!! Where on Neopia could he be? |
|
|
 |
Oh no! Boochi fires his ray gun and
turns [petname] into a Baby [petspecies]!!! |
Editorial #368 confirmed that
Baby pets cannot be zapped by Boochi, meaning UC Babies are safe from that RE, so
UC Baby Kougras can also be used as
Boochi shields. Skeiths and Eyries, however, can be victims of the Invisible RE, so do not set yours as your active pet!
However, Boochi or Invisibleness is not the only danger. There is the Rainbow Water RE; very rare,
but it exists. If it hits your UC Krawk, it will turn him/her into another random colour, and obviously,
the Krawk will no longer be UC. You have been warrrnnned. D: Here is an idea of
what it looks like:
|
|
 |
A torrent of multi-coloured water
falls from the sky and DRENCHES [petname]!!! You hear evil
cackling from the sky... |
Update: I got my hands on an actual screenie. The targeted pet was a Pink Usul,
who turned
Christmas as a result. (
Many thanks!) Drag and drop for full view.
Keep them happy!
Keep your unconverted pet happy and fed. While this is something most people
will do for any pet, if a pet is unhappy, angry, hungry, or sick, he/she may get
hit by the Red/Blue Random Events. Remember, this event can hit
any of
your pets, not just your active!

[Petname] doesn't look very
happy. In fact, he looks downright Blue.
Maybe a toy would help. |
