~Welcome guest~

You wander about exploring the coasts of Krawk Island. The waves were crashing onto the rocks, spraying its foam onto your face... As you wipe out the water from your eyes and look back at the crashing waves retreating from the rocks, you also notice a cave. But this was no ordinary cave. It was neatly decorated with shells, so neat that it must be by someone, and that someone must be living in the cave.

You look up at the dull clouded sky. Thunder rumbles in the distance. Obviously, a storm is brewing, you have to get out of here. You glance back at the cave for a while, seeing that is the only place to hide from the storm. You see a Grarrl hastily dashes into the cave's entrance. You then follow the Grarrl but when you got to the entrance you hesitate. You know that Grarrls can be very fierce towards any living thing. From the cave, you hear a booming voice:

Hurry! Come inside quickly. I don't want you to be killed by the storm.

This Grarrl seemed odd, concerning about your safety. You run into the cave. The passage inside was uphill, something not all caves are like. You finally reached a ladder and climb up it to an opening. The Grarrl helps you up by signalling you to hang onto it's tail. It lifts you up to a wide spacious room, lit by torches. The Grarrl covered the entrance with a flat rock, maybe to stop the tide coming in. You notice it was no ordinary Grarrl, It had navy stripes all over it. It's underbelly was sky blue. It has two metallic horns on it's head. On it's tail was a fin like a sea creature's, so was on it's back and it's arms. A row of spines ran down it's back. It looks at you with its emerald eyes and speaks again:  

Glad to see you in one piece, don't be afraid, you nearly got eaten by the waves.

You nod shyly. Hopefully it is not a carnivorous monster even though it looks like one. You finally ask it a question:

Who are you? You're not going to eat me...are you?

The Grarrl smiled, showing its white rows of sharp teeth and chuckled:

My name is Sauralloru. I don't eat living creatures, only when they are already dead ...

Sauralloru went over to the kitchen to fetch some tea and biscuits. He hands you a cup of piping hot green tea. You wrap your hands around the warm cup to get comfort and heat up your cold hands. You decided to ask him about his appearance. Sauralloru signals you to follow him to the lounge room:

It's a long story about my appearance, come to the lounge room and I'll explain. Bring your tea too.

You seat yourself on a comfy sofa. Sauralloru sat on the sofa opposite you and lit three candles on the table nearby:

I was an average blue Grarrl, born at Maraqua, but had to move to Krawk Island , because I can't brethe underwater, and was raised by only my father (a Maraquan Grarrl) since my mother left our home, father wouldn't explain why.

Anyway, one day when my father went off fishing, I was left at home learning how to swim by myself, I remember it was hard before I developed into an Aqua Grarrl. Few hours have passed, yet my father haven't returned yet. As time passed the hours had became days. Of course I was in total panic; I had to seek help, but I know of no-one who could actually lend me hand, everyone was quite busy due to Skarblde's invasion and residents of Krawk island are always busy... Maybe Skarblade had kidnapped my father...

It took me a few weeks to retrieve his body, he got washed up onto the the northern coast of Krawk Island. The only things I can tell about what happened is that he died of suffocation because of a long metal thing was caught in his throat. Why was he so oblivious to what he was shoving down his throat, why do people leave all these stuff around? There was nothing I could do now I am an orphan in a world in which I had only started to know. I buried his body and mourned over his death, also pleading not to go to the Pet Pound, my father said it is n awful place, pets that go there can sometimes become crazy! (I found out that it was true after meeting Windphon, I felt so lucky not to meet Dr. Death)

I only know one other Maraquan Grarrl who I think he can help. It was the guy who sells bait at the fishing hole where my father always took me to there to fish, all I got were rotten shoes and boots. But I cannot hold my breath long to get there, I need someone who knows how to swim quite fast to take me there. But I've also heard of some strong currents in the sea that can take me there. Since I have no other choice, I dived down into the cold ocean, holding my breath. I searched to and fro to find the current. Deeper and deeper I dived, the blackness of the depths grew darker and that was when I realised I was out of breath but it was too late to resurface for air. My lungs got filled with water as I struggle to keep awake. I caught a glimpse of a shape of something like a Peophin swimming towards me, as it came close enough for me to see it's details, I blacked out.

I awoke seeing a Peophin's grinning face looking down at me.

"Where am I," I asked while coughing out some sea water.

"Young Grarrl. You are in Maraqua! The fishing hole you wanted to go to." It said with a smile. "I had been watching you struggling without your father's presence. But sometimes, you have to cast away the past and look to the future. For further encouragement, I've blessed you the ability to breathe underwater, check it out!"

I was already happy enough to be at the fishing hole, but having the ability underwater was more than a dream come true! I examined my reflection in the water. I had developed gills and fins. I jumped into the water and swam like a swift Jetsam!  I resurfaced to thank the Peophin, but it was no longer there. He should know how much I wanted to thank him.

I walked over to the Grarrl selling Bait and told him about what had happened to my father and why I am here. He told me if I don't want to go to the pet pound, I have to either:

1. Have an owner or at least someone who can take care of me.

2. Become famous (I think that is impossible in the situation I am in now)

3. Have a job in the community.

I decided to accept the job the Grarrl gave me, cleaning up the fishing hole and clearing out the boots in the water so there will be less protests from the fishing beginners.

One month later, I have gained a fair bit of neopoints from the grarrl and my feelings of loneliness are washed away. I have met many nice neopians and their pets. I had became a strong swimmer. I know that my father is somewhere up there, would be proud that I did not need a paintbrush to be a great swimmer.

There was also one day that I would never forget. While cleaning up the fishing poles and boots, a maraquan uni found me and led me to another underwater cave, beautifully decorated with shells of different sizes and shapes. In the cave, emerged lots of colourful maraquan fish and neopets painted maraquan. They cheered and applauded but I had no idea why. The Uni explained that they are happy that their home, the ocean, is cleaner than usual thanks to me, cleaning out the unwanted waste. I told them that it was only a job I'm doing for the Grarrl, but they ignored me and acknowledged me by awarding me a necklace with a milky white shell painted with blue stripes. I thanked them and promised that I will continue to help clean the ocean as long as I can. The uni then lead me out of the cave to see something. We swam passed colourful coral and shimmering schools of fish. She spiralled around a large rock as if asking me to examine it. Upon touching it, a mirror was revealed. I looked at my reflection and noticed that I looked very different. The uni explained that upon wearing the necklace, I had grew horns, spines and stripes. I really liked the new way I looked. I thanked the uni and she swam away. I made one last look at the mirror and smiled.

As you see, if you do something good to the ocean, it would reward you back. You can do your part cleaning the sea by fishing out unwanted waste. You could save lives of many maraquans.

 

There was a long silence. You can still hear the light pattering of the rain outside and faint rumbles of thunder. You look at Sauralloru's Family Photo. Sauralloru smiles and introduces each member to you.

Aquila Audux

Aquila is a nice sister except that she can be quite chatty at times. She spends her spare time alone in mystery island bird-watching, flying and exploring. She teaches me about species of birds in Neopia especially the ones living at the Seashores.

Windphon Featherscale

All those years Windphon had spent in the Neopian Pet Pound had made a great impact with his mind. Don't listen to what he says, its all nonsense and you wouldn't believe it anyway. I advise you to stay well away from his petpage. Click if you dare! (Ahem... he hasn't even made a petpage yet O_o)

Eyriex Firewing

 Eyriex is a funny sort of guy, always in your face, blabbering about nonsense. He is very enthusiastic to meet other pets yet he will still talk a lot. He is the strongest battle-pet in our family, yet he still cannot beat Punchbag Bob =="

Sheallralloru, a Jawshell that enjoys the ocean as much as Sauralloru does. Sauralloru found this little critter, struggling for it's life trying to free itself from tangling fishing wire. After being set free by the Grarrl, the little Jawshell follows him where ever he goes and helps cleaning up the rubbish on the shores of Krawk Island.

Likes: The Ocean, blowing bubbles, chewing kelp.

Dislikes: Fishing rods, staying out of the water for a long time.

Want to know some stuff about Grarrls?

I would be happy to tell you some facts about my species, one of the most unpopular of all Neopia's species of Neopets but that doesn't mean Grarrls are uncool.

Taking Care of Us!

Feeding- Most Grarrls eat a lot so you have to feed us regularly if you don't want us to help ourselves to your inventory. It is true that we are capable of eating any junk in your inventory (including your paintbrushes and codestones!) so better off putting them in your safety deposit box. If you don't go on Neopets much (which I highly doubt) or you just don't bother feeding us (I'm sure most of you do feed us regularly) you can always drop us off at the neolodge where we get fed automatically and you don't have to think about feeding us! 

Entertainment- Like any other pet. Grarrls can get bored when left with nothing to do for a while. Most of us prefer comic books for passing the time and we are not keen into reading thick books with words we don't understand. We love a challenge in the Battledome and we also love being trained to be one of the most powerful Neopets in Neopia! We are not easily amused when playing with plushies. We rather chew on them. Anyway, you can always take us to Tyrannia! Lots of Grarrls to meet there!

Ukkrah the Fire Grarrl

Ukkrah is a very destructive Grarrl. Destroying everything in his path with his fiery breath! Not the friendliest Grarrl you would want to encounter...

They lived in Northern Tyrannia. Trained in order to handle any type of weapon!

Galem Darkhand

They say there was honour amongst thieves until HE arrived and became the leader of the thieves guild.

A Tyrannian battle master who is not afraid of a good fight!

 This brave hero even has his own constellation (The Gladiator). Not only was he the champion of the Battledome but he had saved an innocent village from his own tyrannic leader.
Galgarrath

Even though he believes that prisoners should not be allowed to play games, he keeps playing them to keep Master Vex happy. Watch out! He is one tough Cellblock opponent!

This nice shell has a texture so smooth that it feels like silk!

Glossy Blue Shell

Acts like a mirror! So shiny that we can see our reflections in it!

Tangerine Trumpet Shell

This fascinating seashell is quite unusually coloured but is very rare! 

Spiky Shell

Quite (obviously) prickly so watch out!

Crimson Spotted Shell

Fascinating colours! Deep crimson on the inside and silver spots on the outside!

Camouflage Scallop Shell

Very hard to find since it blends within its surroundings.

Shiny Purple Cowry Shell

A pretty purple seashell that appears like it could unwrap itself if it wanted to.

Rainbow Coloured Shell

It's all in the name! This shell can bring a splash of colour into your collection!

Spiky Orange Murex Shell

Be careful when you touch this shell because you might regret it. Yes, it is the shell that appears in the game "Wicked Wocky Wobble".

Deep Sea Shell

Only found in the deepest and darkest waters of Neopia! Muahahahaha!

Pink Curly Shell

Delicate to handle. Very fragile. You can rarely find a perfect one.

Carved Sea Shell

A brown cowry with a design hand-carved by natives.

Outside, you can no longer hear the rain and the thunder. Sauralloru takes you back to the entrance and removes the rock. 

I don't think you need my hospitality anymore. I hope you had enjoyed your stay. Farewell.

You hopped down into the exit and waved goodbye to Sauralloru. Outside you see many junk tangled in kelp washed onto the beach.

Looks like I've got some cleaning to do...

Sauralloru grumbled. You spot something shining underneath some kelp. You ran towards it and dusted the sand off. It seemed to be some kind of seashell:

You take one last look at Sauralloru's Cave and looked out to the sea where the sun is sinking into the horizon and thought about how much the ocean means to Sauralloru.
