Personality: Ryochiru is a fairly upbeat creature, who enjoys being around others and doesn't mind taking the time to help someone in need. He is responsible and understands that his actions have consequences, and as the ruler of his people, he takes his job very serious.
Though he is generally quiet and thoughtful, and has a very mellow attitude, he can become easily angered if someone he cares about is in harm's way. He tries to keep his anger in check, since a mind clouded with anger is useless when approaching a situation logically.

. : A Fluttering Hope : .
In the sky,
written in the clouds
with the gentle breath of wind,
a destiny unfolds.
One who reigns,
over all those that dwell
in the palace of the heavens,
one of royal blood.
The descendant,
of the long forgotten king
who ruled the skies with mighty wings,
the Sky King.
The one who wears,
the golden, winged crown
will control the fates of the kingdom,
and the spirits that reside there.
Such was decided,
by the will of the sun
who watches over the floating city,
to protect it at all costs.
And so it began,
with the birth of a prince
possessing eyes of the sun,
and a will of fire.

Chapter One
A Calming Wind Approaches
. : Maelos, The Floating Kingdom : .

||: The Essence of a Kingdom
The Sky Krawk race is the dominant species present in the Kingdom of Maelos, and the direct ancestors of the race who built the sky kingdom. There are a few who have stumbled across the floating city on accident and have chosen to stay, but visitors to Maelos are rare.
Maelos isn't the only floating city, but it is one of the largest. Others are scattered across the sky, invisible to most due to the large cloaking fields set up around them. Maelos is at the very center of the system of the network of floating system, and works as the core to rotate the other cities through the sky with it's gravity control system, keeping them all in an orbit to avoid direct contact with one another.
Travel between the cities is a rather complex ordeal, if not difficult. Because of the large cloaking devices, it is impossible to simply fly from one city to another. Teleportation crystals are set to follow the orbit of a certain city. They aren't close the the border though, and it requires some flying to even reach the border of the cloaking field. A group of monitors watch the crystal activities as their job, to ensure that no harmful presence comes within reach of the city.
For the most part, besides the working class that maintains the cities and defense systems, the average citizen is normal. Merchants, bakers, farmers, and shopkeepers help maintain the economy of the cities. The most important group within the city are the collectors, whose job is to make systematic flights down to the earth to bring back large amounts of fertilized soil. Although most people are unaware of the Sky Kingdom's existence, the wood folk of of Veyrl have signed a contract with the cities. They nurture huge quantities of soil for the kingdom's use, and in return they receive many new seeds from other parts of the world.
||: Ancient Traditions
Traditions and festivals are a huge part of the Maelos society. The coming-of-age ceremony on a child's thirteenth cycle is when they receive their first pair of wings, often a refurbished set of the parents. They then go through an academy in order to learn the basics of flight patterns and repair procedures. The option to join the Sky Academy is later offered to those who have graduated the Flight Academy, who patrol the skies and later serve as the kingdom's military.
Of the many festivals held in Maelos, the annual Cherry Blossom Festival and the Meteor Festival are the most popular. Since the greenery of Maelos is limited by the amount of soil available, the blossoming of the Cherry trees is a rare sight, and considered to bring good luck. The Meteor Festival celebrates the coming of the meteor showers. Many daring young krawks take this opportunity to try and catch the meteors as they fall, before they burn up. Though the fire and water elements are best suited for this sport, wind and earth elements do surprisingly well. The krawk who catches the most meteors during the festival is awarded with the meteor crown, a strangely shaped meteor that fell into the city in the first years of its existence.
All of the citizen of Maelos take pride in their festivals and traditions, and when an event occurs the whole city is bustling with activity.
||: The Royal Court
The Royal Court of Maelos is the goal for many of the bright minds of the city. Comprised of scholars and strategists, the Royal Court makes sure the city's defense and military are at their best. The scholars also take care in recording the events of the kingdom, from small daily events to the occasional war. The Sol is the commander of the entire military, although in the end he does report to the King, and everything must be approved before action is taken.
In the Royal Court also resides ancient family lines, who each have a specialty in one thing or another. They are the heads of their fields, and make sure everything is running smoothly, as well as settling debates between members of their districts.
Lastly is the inner circle of the Royal Court, which is comprised of the royal family and its employees. This includes aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents, children, and pretty much any other relative of the king. The kingship is passed down through the ruling house of Maelos, but it is not necessarily given to the oldest. The title of king is passed on to the one most fit for the job, which may or may not be the children of the current king. Every now and then a retired king will be appointed king once more, although that doesn't happen often, as most rulers keep the title until death. The citizens of Maelos will not tolerate an unworthy ruler, so the decision when appointing a new ruler is often a long process that takes much consideration, before candidates are even announced.
||: The Cornerstones of Maelos
The four Gravitas of Maelos are the gravity systems of the entire Sky Kingdom. The Gravitas are an ancient elemental race, skilled in the art of gravity manipulation, a skill which had become irreplaceable through the passing of time. The current four Gravitas are thousands of years old, and had existed before the Sky Kingdom was built. They do not speak to anyone but each other, and when they do, it is very important to listen.
The Gravitas do not see things in a sense of now, but rather in the future. Unless a crisis has arisen that affects the future greatly, they will not leave their posts to lend a hand.
Though they serve Maelos and the sky kingdom dutifully, the Gravitas are bound by a contract with the Sky King, the founder of the Sky Kingdom. They will not listen to anyone but the one who holds that title and wears the Sky Crown as proof of kingship of the skies.
The Four

Fyra
The Gravitas of Fire, Fyra, who resides in the western tower. The most temperamental of the four, Fyra is the hardest to please among the group. When Maelos is in danger, Fyra surrounds the entire kingdom in a huge wall of fire that can last for hours, and burn anything in its path. Fyra also makes sure the furnaces that power the flotation system of the city are always lit.

Aquas
The Gravitas of Water, Aquas, who resides in the southern tower. This gentle creature is responsible for keeping a plentiful source of water for the kingdom. The center fountain in the courtyard of the palace is dedicated to the spirit, and water flows out from the large fountain through aqueducts to the city.
Terra
The Gravitas of Earth, Terra, who resides in the eastern tower. This stubborn but caring Gravitas helps to nurture the plants and greenery in the floating kingdom, and blesses the soil transported into the kingdom. Terra ensures that all the citizens on Maelos are well fed.
Aeros
The Gravitas of Wind, Aeros, who resides in the northern tower. The most free spirited of the four, Aeros ensures that there is always a favorable wind in the skies. If there are large storms that are approaching that could endanger the sky city, Aeros redirects the city out of the storm's path.
. : Cherished Ones : .

Being of royal blood, Ryochiru has many siblings, and he adores each and every one of them. He writes to them as often as he can when he is away, and when he's home, he spends as much time with them as he can spare.

Azei
My lovely older sister, Azei. She was supposed to be the heir to the throne, but she declined. She is not one to be bound by rules or regulations, and although she would have made a fine ruler, I am happy for her choice. Azei is probably my closest sibling; she and I understand each other very well. She is only older by a few years, but I still think she surpasses me in wisdom by a long shot.
Similar to me, she possesses the element of fire. Although fire is my main elemental power, Azei exceeds my skills greatly. She is also one of the greatest technicians of our land, and teaches me how to repair my stuff when she has the time. She oversees a lot of the maintenance of the city's suspension system and equipment. On top of that, she pretty much fills in the position of our deceased mother.
|
Fynn
Fynn is quite the adorable little krawk. She is my youngest sibling, and by far the sweetest little thing I've ever met. She loves playing with me in the garden, but I think she prefers to play with Azei at the shop. I guess it's because she's the only other girl in the family. Either way, she's a clever little thing, and has no qualms with manipulating people with her adorableness to get what she wants. She has good intentions though, and would never hurt anyone on purpose.
Though she has not yet fully awakened her powers, Fynn is of the wind element. She loves flying around with the various fowl that reside in our kingdom, and it's difficult to keep her grounded. She was just made for the sky.
Fynn is the baby of the family, and has no problem taking the spotlight in any situation. She'll make a good leader someday.

Vaas & Taro
The twins are pretty crazy, I must admit. Always running around and pranking people. It can be quite tiring. Always the charmers, Vaas and Taro are always throwing parties and being in the center of attention. I'd say Vaas is the calmer of the two, even if only by a little. Taro is a little more wild and harder to predict. Both are very intelligent though.
Taro possesses the element of water, while Vaas carries the earth element. Both are exceedingly clever when it comes to manipulating their respective elements. They could be a lot better, if they put their minds to it and tried. It's hard to get them to concentrate.
The twins are pretty overprotective of everyone in the family. It can get out of hand easily, but they'll listen when Azei yells at them for being stupid. It's pretty funny to watch. One of these days they're going to prank her and end up hurting really bad.

. : Friendly Faces : .
Ryochiru has met many new faces on his journeys, and he keeps track of them in his travel logs. He wished that one day he hopes to see his friends again, and has recorded their contact information as well.
 |
Rasconza
Rasconza seems to be a very friendly creature, from what I have witnessed thus far. I had been on my way to the kingdom of Syneth, when my wings malfunctioned and I fell into the sea. I had no idea that there was such a marvelous world below! When I awoke, I found myself in a small cavern, and I could hear a fierce blizzard raging outside. Rasconza had saved me, when she saw something fall from the sky, she had gone to investigate. Apparently I washed up on shore, and she had carried me off before I froze to death. One of my legs had broken, so I stayed there until I recovered. Eventually I managed to repair my wing set, and left for home to report to my court. I wished Rasconza well and hope to visit her again one day.
