Welcome~

Hi there, yelly366! Welcome to my humble petpage, I do hope you enjoy reading my story. It's pretty interesting, you see. Or at least my mum says so.. My name is Rosuri, but you can call me Suri. I'm a Nova Collector! I'll explain everything about Nova Collectors and what I do further along this page, but mum wanted me to make a few announcements before we get to the good part:

* This page does not work with resolutions smaller than 1024 x 768 (sorry!)
* I love art and writing. If you want to exchange fan-art/writing, neomail my mum! ^^
* I am not, and never will be, UFT or UFA. Please stop asking if you can have me!

History~

Catching novas is really not that easy, whatever people might tell you. Those troublesome little critters of joy are lightning fast and seem to enjoy bouncing all over the place. There's a trick to catching them, of course, like there is a trick to all things. Though only one remains who still remembers, and who lives to hunt them; an ancient and forgotten being that has fallen prey to fairy tales and bedtime stories - a living legend. She is the last of her kind, the only one left to rule the skies and constrain the dwelling entities; spirits we like to call novas.

She is the last Nova Collector, and even though collectors live long lives, her ancient light will undoubtedly fade at some point in time. It is vital that she finds a successor soon, after all; teaching an apprentice everything she knows will take decades, maybe even centuries. If you're the last of your kind, though.. where do you start looking for your successor?

N O V A S ;;
One cannot possibly understand the power and beauty of novas when they don't fully grasp their magical characteristics and how to put them to use. You see, like all creatures in this universe, novas come in different sorts and varieties - and with different energies. They are what you could call entities, or rather dreams in living form. Fragile creatures that come out only the very moment before sunset, to disappear again just seconds later. And in that special moment, time seems to freeze and they think of just one thing, the nova collector. The last being that has the means to catch novas and put them to use, like they have been intended for since the beginning of time.

Novas hold dreams. They are gifts to the sleeping minds of every child on Neopia, and it is Suri's job to grant the children their dreams. Since it depends solely on the nova itself whether these dreams are beautiful, amusing, frightening or something else, she'll have to tell them apart by their vibrant energies and give children the dreams they desire. Their vibrant energies are the waves that exceed mortal perception, the dreams' glow, and the name it holds. And the particular nova she's been searching for, is calling out a name..

How they came to be~

Including types of novas.

Story~

When children's eyes close and lights go dim
when stars start to twinkle as the world turns grim

That magical moment where time slips away
leaving a slumbering silence in which the dreams play

Hidden in the dark as she sees her chance
luring them into a sleeper's trance

For where they surface and dance on the last rays
She will be waiting until the end of days

Casting her spells into the darkening sky
Aiming for dancing stars as they shoot by

Claiming her role in an ancient play
until the night calls upon the end of the day

She contains her captives in silver and glass
their flickering light breaking through the magical mass

Projecting their energy onto all who come near
bringing light to the dreams in which they appear

Now where did I leave it.. She mumbled as she slowly shuffled through the narrow corridors of what was once an arcane library. Magically hidden away from the mortal eye to protect the valuable information resting inside, it has been long forgotten, and the dusty shelves that reach to the high ceiling are no longer filled with scrolls and parchments. Marvellous glass bells, wonderfully shaped colourful flasks, and wooden chests of different sizes have taken their place long ago and now stand there in silence, bathing in the evening light seeping through the long velvet curtains; guarding the dreams and novas they hold. She looked up at seeing drops of sunlight finding their way through the ragged and torn fabric, dancing through the thin summer air. Tiny specks of light twirling around her; as if caught in a spell, embraced by light. This was her favourite part of the day.

She let out a sigh as she turned her head and looked away from the spectacle in front of her, continuing her search. Even her most subtle movements brushed away dust resting on long forgotten artefacts, condemning them to fill the air and dance until they could dance no more. Their bodies lighting up like little stars and filling the room, only to slowly drift down and finally reaching the cold, tiled floors. Her eyes caught sight of a higher shelf, dark and alone in a sober corner of the once overwhelming space. What had caught her attention stood just out of reach at the far end - covered in cobwebs and hidden under a thin blanket of grey dust, its original beauty was still visible through all the filth. A small crystal flask, shaped like a star and set in silver. A beautiful addition to her collection and hand crafted for great purposes..

A small smile played on her lips as she reached it.. Found you, she thought as her clear deep-blue eyes ran over the dark oaken shelf, and the treasure that stood on its polished wood. Her treasure. And it was old. yet beautiful - still - just like her keeper. She lingered for a moment with one hand touching the cold glass, caressing the silver lining with a single finger. It lit up as she ran a nail up and down the tiny bottle. Just as the light of the nova faded again, she tore away her gaze and let her wings slowly carry her down, casting a flying shadow over the passing shelves while silently gliding through the air. First, the only sound in the library were the memories of old books, but the energy in the air increasingly lightened and stirred with every second she clutched the small flask to her chest. Thousands of bells were singing, chests vibrated, and bottles were shimmering in the pale evening light. Their contents trembling with excitement as Suri landed softly, and without any noise - only to stride out in such a pace that all dust wept up again in a whirlwind of dances; they knew exactly what was coming.

Appearance~

Quad

Few will be able to tell you what Suri looks like, and the people that claim to have seen her have been called anything from sightly foolish to utterly mad. Parents tell their children that she's a spirit, a kind soul that cannot be seen but is always near when you sleep. Storybooks picture her as a fierce dragon that hunts at night, troubling your mind with made-believe dreams. I guess you could say that neither is true, or both. Suri is a dragon-like creature by appearance but she lives to bring children joy, not night terrors. She is covered in soft, velvet-y scales that reflect sun perfectly, making her almost invisible during flight. When looking closer, you should be able to see that she is in fact the most beautiful colour blue. An undefinable shade that catches the glow of the sky, of the ocean and of her own eyes; reflected on her skin.

Antro

In the human-like form Suri rarely uses, she is a slender built, young woman with a confident posture and hard features that don't fit her age. Though at first glance you wouldn't be able to guess how old she is, when looking into her eyes you can see her soul has been around for centuries rather than years. Her soft and pale skin has a cold, blue shimmer to it when evening rays lighten her up. Her bright, celestial blue hair waves down her spine and over her shoulders, encircling a hint of a smile on her face. Her grey eyes have the colour of endless rain, though hers lighten up like pearls instead of thunder. She prefers vintage clothes, the type that was common back when Suri used her human-like form more often; Neovian gowns in soft shades, set with ruffles and lace. In all, she's an attractive creature, with striking features.

Personality~

Suri is a friendly creature, even though her main company - before finding Lily - is the immense collection of novas in her arcane library. Nova collectors live a life of solitude. The only time they will share any hopes and memories with another being is when they are teaching an apprentice or when they are one themselves. Nova collectors show emotions, though they don't need them as they rarely interact with anything other than their own reflection. Suri included. It is not a sad life, as harsh as it may sound. Suri brings others a meaning to life, dreams in which they can be anything they want to be, in which every idea can grow and blossom, and she enjoys bringing happiness to others.

Intelligent - Only the brightest of the brightest have a shot at even being considered as a possible new Nova Collector, and Suri excelled on every one of the requirements. Her mind works as fast as her eyes can see, and her eyes miss nothing.

Alone - As a Nova Collector, Suri rarely interacts with other creatures. Occasionally, a child wakes up during her visits - and she will soothe them right back to sleep - but any other form of social interaction is completely foreign to her.

Adventurous - You'd think an old lady would hardly venture out any more, no? Well, you'd be wrong. To Suri, there's nothing like a summer breeze guiding her to nightly adventures in the clouds. You never know what exactly you might encounter..

Star-fanatic - What more could anyone wish for than to combine your work or your calling with your hobby, your passion. Whenever Suri isn't hunting novas, she loves gazing at the stars - occasionally even mapping them. Some of the older, faded stars we can still see were once her friends.

The friend~

It was on a rainy afternoon one spring, that Suri decided to work her way through an old, dusty storage room under the library and sort out the crispy parchments, scrolls and books stored there. The arcane knowledge that once filled the shelves above was now stored below - and much of it was reduced to dust and rubbish by now, sadly. Though her novas had claimed their old shelves long ago she loved the older books nonetheless, and occasionally she'd carry a better preserved one back up - for future reading.

It was when she was rummaging through a chest of scrolls in search of more information about a particular nova, that she heard the sound of soft paws thumping, moving slowly away from her. The charts and drawings in her hands - nearly falling apart at the softest touch - lost their interest as a small round and bushy tail disappeared under a heavy oak cabinet in one of the musky corners. Curious to take a look under the cabinet and what had disappeared there in the shadows, she moved some chests out of the way and got on her hands and knees. With her ear nearly scraping the cold floor, she peered into the dark and her eyes met with the gaze of a small, intelligent-looking bunny. Small, but old - a bit scruffy but with a wise look in its eyes - and sitting on something.

What have you got there, little one? Suri murmured, as she slid her arm under the cabinet and reached for the parchment the only other inhabitant of her home was sitting on. A map of some sort; the very thing Suri had been looking for.
