Welcome::

This is the FAQ site for the Adopt-A-Newbie Program. It was made with permission from the owner of the program, shnuffles. This site will answer the questions you have about the site. But if, after you have read this, you still do not have your answer, neomail shnuffles.

What is the Adopt-A-Newbie Program? ::

A brief overview of it was explained on its website. But here is an in-depth explanation of it.

The Adopt-A-Newbie program is where newer Neopians (called 'newbies') get free help from the older members of Neopia (called 'mentors'). The point of the program is to teach the newbies how to get around the site, collect rare items and neopoints, and not resort to begging. The mentors teach them what to do and what not to do in Neopia, and exactly how to play certain games and obtain certain items. This is to help the newbie get a jumpstart in Neopia and know what to do, and when to do it. Once they no longer need their mentor to guide them, they will simple say so and then they are off on their own as an experienced player themselves.

FAQ for Newbies::

Alright, let's start answering your questions. Remember, if your question isn't answered, send a neomail to shnuffles!

How do I enter the program?
Well, the beauty of it is, all you have to do is neomail one of the mentors (a list is on their website).

Okay, I neomailed a mentor. Now what do I do?
Sit back, relax, and wait for a response. Make sure you get a response accepting your request before you send them a neofriend request. Most of the mentors are online often, so it might not take long for a response.

What if my mentor does not respond?
Okay, that is worst-case scenario. First, just be patient. Let's say it takes over a day or two, then try neomailing another mentor on the list.

I've neomailed a lot of people, but some don't respond and some say no. Why?
There can be many reasons for that.
  • Your neomail might consist of begging for money, pets, or neopoints. Mentors won't take kindly to that.
  • You might have used chatspeak. Most mentors find it irritable and annoying. I know I do.
  • You may have asked rudely.
  • You may have asked a question that is not Neopets-related. Mentors don't help with problems outside of the game. Stick to in-game questions, and you'll be fine.

My mentor and I kind of lost touch. We neomail every once in a while, but not much. What do I do?
Oy! This is very bad. Never loose touch with your mentor! Always ask questions, and always keep a subject up; keep neomailing each other. But, if this does happen, kindly tell your mentor that you feel you are not talking as much as you would like to, and suggest that you two should be more active together. Maybe your mentor has some real life issues or internet problems; anything that may keep them unactive for a bit. Don't panic! Just wait for them to come back, and see how well you do on your own. If you really need a question answered, try the Help Boards.
