Welcome

Rocks loomed above you in towering cliffs, straight up and flat on all side. Mechanical corpses of old cranes and diggers now housed nests for birds. The pit was wide and many layers deep. Each layer had it's own shelf to stand on and traverse, along with a ramp that led to the next layer. A small pond resided at the very bottom with water so mineral rich and polluted from the mining there that it was unable to support life. Drinking this water would lead to certain sickness.

Every few layers, there would be an entrance to the mine shaft that led into the rock face, you could see absolutely nothing in the pitch blackness in the cavern entrances, in which you assumed to be a network of tunnels.

Curiously, you decide to explore the tunnels. It was hard cram yourself through the small entrance, but you manage and drop down into a large entryway, beams of light streaming down from the outside. The cavern itself was very dark, very cold, and very wet. bits of icy cold water dripped from the ceiling and walls. As you explored, an underground lake could be seen to the side of mine tracks, you could barely make out the eye-less fish that swam about.

After about ten minutes of exploring, a sound echoed throughout the cave, a shuffle. You look around and for a second see nothing but darkness, but after a second glance you spot a pair of blue eyes staring directly at you.

The pair moved, whatever they belonged to inching forward towards you, as it came close enough to be within sight in the limited light, you realize it was a lupe...wait half a lupe? No, the other half must just be dark colored.

What are you doing here? You should leave, it's not safe. The lupe snapped, sizing you up.

I was just exploring, who are you? You ask innocently. You should leave. As he responded, he stepped into a very small beam of sun that shown through a gap in the rock wall, but as he passed through, it didn't seem to light him up at all, he was still like a shadow. Was he some sort of ghost?

Are you a shadow?

That isn't important. Leave.

Fine, but will you show the way out to me?

He seemed to sigh a bit and walk a little closer to you. Okay, then. Follow close, it's dark. He warned. You follow him, knowing now would be the best time to learn about this lupe...

Repior

Name: Repior (Rep-ee-or), I prefer that, so no nicknames.
Age: Two years or so.
Gender: Male
Species: Lupe
Painted: Split
Height: 4' 5
Weight: 103 lbs.
Lives: Rock quarry
Mood: Lonely

Appearance: A tall, lanky creature, Repior stands a touch taller then the average lupe. His muscles are lean and stretched tightly over the bone, they are not muscles of strength but rather, muscles of endurance. Repior can run for miles without needing to stop and he runs quick, his jog nearly the speed of a normal lupe's run. His fur is medium in length and fades from a warm gray at his head to a rich gold color at his feet and haunches. His tail repeats this pattern, starting at gray at the tail base and gradually becoming gold.

Though this is only one half of his body, the other half -- the left half, is a thick black color. This black is not of the ordinary sort, although the fur fibers feel and look the same, it's color absorbs all light and swallows it into darkness. In it's wake, an impregnable black that remains black as the night even then the sun shines directly on it.

Personality: His heart as conflicted as his appearance, heart torn between light and dark. He is a naturally good person, he enjoys making friends and is a typical two year old, young lupe. However, darkness penetrates his heart and influences his thoughts. It often clouds his judgment and causes him to doubt his own intentions ind ideals. In the end, Repior doesn't know who he is.

As a result of his confliction, he has almost a split personality, when he is not tempted by the darkness within himself then he is an enjoyable person to be around, fun, active, and even selfless. However, on occasions, he can become manipulative and brooding, he gets spells of depression and moodiness that effect those around him. As a result, he often pushes people away, afraid be rejected for his own flaws.

The Story

My life before now is more like a strange dream then reality. Not really because it hurts or because it is terribly dramatic, more like it's unbelievable that I was born from it. Really, it all boils down to one major event in my life, one turning point that defined me as a living creature. I suppose everyone has one, that one moment where, depending on what path you decide to take, can completely change you. One moment was all it took for me to commit to a path of destruction. One moment was all it took for a dear friend to save me.

I was born in a place much like this mine quarry. Only on a much grander scale, a canyon. The range was dubbed the Reid Canyons based off of the red sand and red walls that defined it. In fact, the only thing that wasn't was the thin blue river that ran down the canyon's trench. I lived there with a family of twenty or so.

My place there wasn't simply as a pup, I was son of the fastest runner in our pack. Running and climbing being the two most cherished skills in our culture, I had a lot of expectancy on me to surpass my father. As I grew up, it always lingered in my mind that I had to be better then him, even though I respected him.

My mother and I had a difficult relationship, she always had her hands full with all the other pups (hers and others), that I never felt I had enough maternal attention, so I'd be rebellious and cause trouble here and there. She was always very patient and supportive, even with my foolery. Even when I was the biggest little turd in the world, I could always run back to her when life got too hard for me.

Overall, my life as a child was fairly typical. My pack was loving and close and all the pups my age were either crybabies or troublemakers. It was only those simple truths that kept me going for a long time. However, sometimes the lupes bordering puphood and adulthood felt that it fell upon their shoulders to teach me of the truths of the world. One in particular I remember, no matter what he did or how he went about it, would never get caught committing mischief. Though one time he did cross a member bigger then himself and got a good five or six teeth knocked from his skull. From then on, no matter how I looked at him, he always reminded me of a seagull.

As typical childhoods go, I had one best friend that stuck to me like glue, Keit. We did everything together, we ran around, wrestled, and climbed rocks all day long. We especially loved to race, we would run from the early hours of dawn to the late hours of dusk. We'd run until our legs buckled and we could hardly stand. I was always faster then him, I had to be, it was expected of me to be faster then the other pups. Looking back, I realize that I was the only one pressuring myself to be the best, I realize now that I wouldn't have been any less a man then Keit. Of course, back then, it was out of the question to be anything but the best. I wanted to be second to no one.

Relationships

Friends

Aw. He needs some friends ):

Family

Xionmari - A really strange guy. I always find it hard to be near him, he's just so different. I know that's awful to say because he's mentally handicapped or whatever. But I never enjoyed hanging out with the guy. He is really smart though, like really smart. The guy spends all his time building robots for the needy, which is pretty awesome if you ask me. I really can't do anything to help the needy like he can, but as cool as this is, that's all he does other then read. How boring. Anyway, if you want to meet him or get one of his robots, I think he hangs out at the library when he's not locking himself away in his basement.

Tivuk - Now I have some serious respect for this fighter here. He was born into a fighting ring for pets, and no one messed with him. He was a ruthless killer, now he's just a tamed lion. Shame, really. He keeps all that ferocity deep down, when he was so amazing when he had it. He could take anyone down, easily too. I think he retired from the ring to like discover himself or something sappy, but I know better, a fighter is a fighter, there's nothing to discover. He's fooling himself, no matter how hard he tried he won't be able to change the fact that he is a killer at heart.

Twisong - Twisong is pretty enjoyable to be around, she lives in the far, far north where everything is freezing cold. Of course, she has to live there because she is made of ice! Don't ask me why or how, but she is. She doesn't even know herself, she thinks she's going to die, but she can never leave. Goes to show you that life sucks. She's pretty cool though, a little too energetic for my liking and she is way too innocent for me to feel comfortable around, I'm afraid I might corrupt her, and I don't want that. Anyway, you should go see her, she needs some friends.

Ravago - That deer thing? He scares me. I hate him. No creature should have the power to give and take life. He lives in a very small and hidden forest, and can only control the lives of that forest, but still, I refuse to acknowledge the existence of spirits as being important. Spirits shouldn't have power over us. I am afraid of something that has such godly powers, and with good reason, as long as I'm in his forest I think he can take my life when he sees fit. He claims he doesn't take a life unless it is at their given time or unless the threaten the general health of the forest, but I can't bring myself to believe that bull.

Otes - Somehow this sickly guy learned how to equalize the pressure in his internal organs so he can be both deep below water and at the surface. I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it. He is apparently a warrior in some underwater maraquan tribe that's on a mission to figure out why they are getting sick and trying to find a cure. He told me it was the black water that hurt them, I translated that as oil, but I might be wrong. He's the healthiest of them, but he's still sick and weak. Poor guy.

Nuhvok - I've never liked Nuhvok, she thinks she's real tough, but she's just a bitter old hag who's afraid of leaving her cozy little swamp. Well, not cozy for me, it's cold and wet and smells funny. According to Zas, she's lived a really long time so she's just jaded, I don't care how old she is, I still don't like her at all. The only cool thing about her is that she can make some weird medicine stuff that worked like a charm when I got that gash in my side, I was ready to run again in only two days. It didn't even get infected.

Zaseri - An artist for sure. She's real piece of art herself, but her personality is a little to strong for most guys. Zaseri can be very feisty, but she's real nice too, she loves people. Sometimes I can't see what she sees in people, but she sees something because she is always around them and making friends. I wish I could do that sometimes. Being around her makes me jealous, so I'm not with her often. Besides the last time she tried to draw me I had to stand still for nearly two hours. I wanted to rip that piece of paper in half.

Love

I thought I knew how to love...but I now realize that love is impossible for me. You just can't love others when you don't love yourself, and I don't love myself so how I can ever love another? I dunno, I like to think I'll find love, but I don't want to get disappointed. So, for now, I'm resigned to my solitude.

Link Out

Light flooded the walls of the cave as you neared the exit. Repior, still black like a shadow, stopped just at the mouth of the cavern. Well, I've led you out, I actually enjoyed your company, guest. You may come back again, if you would like. He said with a small smile.

You walk through the entrance of the cavern, greeted by warm air and the smell of minerals. You turn around to nod a goodbye, but it seems Repior had already retreated back into the darkness...
