Getting the Pieces

Make sure when you're looking to buy the pieces to take a look at the picture displayed on the piece. Since they are all named the same thing you can easily buy duplicates. Try keeping your pieces organized so you know which ones you need.

It is also possible to gain the pieces from Random Events and Tarla.
However it isn't wise to wait for these to gain your full map as they are, in fact, random.

Keyquest is another way to gain the pieces as they are given out as prizes. Stick to two player games and you'll be more likely to get the pieces.
Again, this isn't the best method for gaining pieces as you'd have to play a lot of Keyquest games to collect the whole map.

Ways to make NPs

Do your DAILIES!
You can gain nps, items, and avvies from doing your dailies.
I use this guide for my dailies. But there are tons of other guides out there.

Play those games!
This site is all about games.
There are over 200 to choose from in the games room
You can make up to 1000nps per play on every game if you get really good at them. Thats 3000nps per game as you can play each game 3 times daily (unless otherwise specified by TNT).
There are tons of guides out there to help you along as well.
Check out the dailies guide I linked you to above for a game guide as well.

A very popular game that earns you not only nps but items as well is Keyquest. This is an online board game where you actually compete against other players for keys that lead to prizes.
Its generally best to play two player games as they are shorter and earn you better prizes because there's only a silver and a gold key to be won and they both give out good items.

Restock!
Restocking can earn you hundreds to millions of nps in a single purchase.

To put the pieces of the Secret Laboratory Map together go here

When you put the pieces of the map together you are given 10k nps and unlimited once-per-day access to the Secret Laboratory Ray.
The pieces disappear after you put them together making them un-resellable

Be warned: The Lab Ray does not guarantee you the color/pet/stat change of you liking. The zaps are completely random. If you're really set on painting your pet a certain color you'd be better off buying the paint brush (that is unless the color you want is a "zap only").

There is an avatar available from the lab ray.

You get this if you zap a species change.

A zap from the Lab Ray can change your pets species, color, and gender. It can also affect your stats in a positive or negative way. The only stat that cannot be affected is your pets intelligence. If you want them to be smarter make them read books.

FAQ

Can I get a limited edition pet from the ray?
Yes you can. There have even been some reports of people getting Draiks, Krawks, and Lutari from zaps. I've only ever gotten a Koi. TNT has not said anything about not being able to get limited edition pets from the ray so we should assume that it is indeed possible.

Can you time your zaps for better results?
No, no, and NO! The zaps are RANDOM! Stop asking this question!

All I'm getting are stat changes, is something wrong?
Well that sucks. See above question.

Does zapping affect future painting/morphing?
Nope but if you zap after you paint it can affect your beautiful paint job.

Does using the map cost anything?
Only the initial cost of the map itself. After that your zaps are fweeeeeeeee!!!

How many times can you zap a pet?
Unlimited times. Though you can only zap them once a day. But you could zap them a billion times if you were feeling uber ambitious.

Is the Lab bad for pets?
That really depends on how you look at all your changes. They could be good or bad depending on the person viewing it. It can't destroy your pet.

Can I sell the map after I use it? Can I lend it out or have it lent to me?
Whoah gear down big rig. No you can't do either of those. The map disappears after you use it leaving you on the account that the map was put on with endless lab access.

Can I have more than one map in use?
Yes. One per account. So you can put maps on your side accounts as well. Remember that you can only have 5 accounts total: 1 main and 4 sides.

Whats so great about the Lab anyways? Why should I get it?
Well in the long run its all up to you whether you think its worth it or not. You can get Limited Edition pets from it, great colors , amazing stat changes, and gender changes. I think that its totally worth it, saves some money on paintbrushes for those plain pets that you can just call lab-rats now. Also you can zap multiple pets. Many people set up adoption agencies and foster pets and use the lab ray to make the pets more likely to be adopted (color/stats). That's all I can think of, go ask people on the help chat why they like their lab ray so much.

You must have the Secret Laboratory Map in order to use the Petpet Laboratory Map.

The zap from this maps lab can change your petpets name, stats, color, and species. It cannot give your petpet a petpetpet however.

After you detach you petpet from you pet it will convert back to its original state. If you wish to send the petpet out on a pet thats being adopted, the petpet will stay in its zapped state until removed.

Your petpet can be zapped away into the oblivion so I'd not recommend zapping any expensive petpets.

If you get a Krawk petpet through the lab, you won't be able to turn it into a Krawk pet

Like the SLM you can zap once a day forever. You can also have the petpet lab on other accounts (as long as they have the SLM as well).

There is an avatar available from the Petpet Ray.

Your petpet has to be turned into a pile of soot. The christmas pile of soot given out by last years advent calendar does not count for the avvie.

FAQ

Can I sell a zapped petpet?
No because it converts back to its original state as soon as you "stop playing" with it. It is against neopets rules to sell any pet. You can trade pets however and have a zapped petpet attached. The petpet will remain in its zapped state until detached from the pet.

Can I sell the map after I use it?
No, like the SLM it disappears when you use it leaving you with unlimited once a day petpet zaps.

If I get a zap that gives me an avatar petpet, do I get the avvie?
Yes, yes you do. :)

Can I get "petpet lab only" petpets?
Yes there are a few: Chiruck, Floobix, Graffle, Skindle, Pile of Soot, Snauberack, Tanamurx, Weebly.

Can I turn my newly zapped Krawk petpet into a Krawk pet!?
Nope, and that just sucks!

What are World Challenges?

Each map set has 20 pieces to it. There are 36 sets in total.

You get 2,000 Np and a random item when you complete the maps. It could be a Paint Brush, Petpet Paint Brush, Codestone, Dubloon Coin, Petpet or any other item.
