Chapter 1 - The beginning
The sound Flict could hear, she knew that was the way to the river. But the meadow was large and it was a long way. "How will I ever get there?" With no wings and no experiance she started moving, she was scared. What could be lurking in the shadows of the trees, waiting for a little dragon hatchling to wander alone over the hills? She was small though and if she was lucky maybe no one could see her through the grass. And with that thought she carried on. Hours passed and finally she reached the river. She had never swam before but she knew she would do just fine. Instinct kicked and she slided in the deep river and swam. She was a natural! The little fur around her neck didn't seem to get wet and the sail on her back and tail helped her to move fast in the water. She didn't need to get up to breathe, at least not for a very long time. Finally she reached a waterfall. She climped up on the bank of the river to think. For the first time in her journey she didn't know what to do. Nervously she started exploring around the waterfall. She however didn't notice a big gap in the ground and fell into it. She crashed on a rock and scratched her neck. "Ahh....someone help me?" she whispered. She turned and ran in circles inside the hole which was quite big now that her eyes got used to the dark. Blood poured down into the beautiful neck fur. She touched the wound "Ouch..oh no...someone?? Can someone help me??" she shouted, praying for help. She breathed heavily trying to think when she stepped into a puddle. Only, it wasn't a puddle. It was another gap leading into an underwater cave, or that she thought when she peered down. "Well, at least I can swim and try to find an exit." I don't think no one is ever going to hear me. She launched herself in the water, not as graceful like she did when she swam in the river. She swam for a while until she saw a light coming from the end of the tunnel. She climped up to the bank exhausted and immediately fell asleep.

Chapter 2 - Diamond cave
Flict grunted and slowly opened her eyes. Everything was so bright with shimmering colours. She stood up and checked her wound that seemed to have stopped bleeding. She thought about the first day of her life. Then it came to her, she was starving. "Better see if there is anything here", she thought. But all that was in the cave was diamonds. Bright blue diamonds. No wait, not just diamonds, but also flowers and plants made of...crystal. She looked at them with amazement, so beautiful and sparkly. She turned away. "Better not get distracted, I need food." She turned back and dived into the deep again. As she swam looking for a way out, she encountered many strange fish. They shimmered like the diamonds in the cave. "They are almost too beautiful to hunt." But she was starving and a newly hatched dragon can't live on air alone so she reacted fast, she made her body look like a spear, pointing towards the fish. She kicked with her feet and slashed the tail up and down with immense speed. She opened her jaw where white fangs awaited the fish but then....the fish grew brighter and brighter. Flict closed her eyes and stopped. "What just happened?" She swam quickly up to the cave again and thought very hard about all the strange things surrounding her. She couldn't hunt the fish down in the underwater cave in case they suddenly grew brighter than lava lamps and she couldn't just stare at the diamonds there either. She had to find a way out before starvation. She launched herself into the water again and swam for what seemed like hours. When she thought she had no air left she could hear a sound, rumbling sound coming from above. She followed the sound determined that this was something worth looking at. And what do you know! This was the way out, she breathed lighter now that she was back in the world she knew. And she was behind the waterfall she had stopped by last day. She trotted up the hill and launched herself in the river to hunt some fish.

Chapter 3 - Life of an adult
Flict had grown massive in just two years. She was almost full grown. It was almost time to leave the river and settle in a lake big enough for her. She was however very curious, she wanted to take a better look at that cave. So she did. It was hard to swim in the river for her now since she was so big, her sail didn't go underwater. She travelled a long way back to the cave of diamonds. She knew where it was although she hadn't been there in two years. She felt the stream speed up and she crawled up on the river bank and walked the rest of the way. She found the place and swam easily into the cave, along the way she saw many bright blue fish. She knew it was pointless trying to hunt them. She went into the cave that seemed bigger. That's strange, it should be smaller since I've grown so big, she thought. She looked better and saw claw marks on the walls. Had someone else found this spectacular cave? And there also seemed to have been a cave in. She walked further inside the cave and found a pool. But the water glowed? How odd. Flict touched it with one paw and the water was warm. She dived in despite the uneasy feeling she had and took a nice swim in it. She crawled up on the bank and slept. She woke up several hours later and stretched her legs, yawned then she gasped. Her feet were bright blue?! She examined her body and her belly was also bright blue. The places where she had once had brown scales to protect her against sharp rocks was now blue. How could this happen??" she shouted with rage. A little cry from a corner made her stop thinking about her scales. She turned to see what had cried. A little ukali. Poor thing was trembling all over and was obviously scared of that gigantic dragon standing in front of him and shouting. Flict wasn't at all happy. "What to do with you?" she said softly. The ukali seemed more relaxed. She poked her nose at him and he buried the little body in her neck fur. She sighed. Now the little guy seemed to like her, this could be a problem. "What should I call you? Hmm? Maybe Alanoi. Yeah that's cute." She talked to him the whole day. She forgot about her change in colour, or accepted it.

Small info about the river dragons

They can grow insanly large, and are very varied in size. One of the biggest ones grew over 3 meters high on the shoulder and over 6 meters counting the long neck. All of them are brown with light brown sail. They have neck fur and tail tuft. The bigger males have very big horns and sometimes the spikes on their tail and feet can get so long that they have to chew them so they can walk. Because the rivers the dragons inhabit are full of sharp rocks they have evolved special scales on their feet and belly to protect them. These scales are nearly always brown however they can sligtly vary in colour and size. River dragons are loners and never gather but on the mating season. Female river dragons lay their eggs every year after they grow old and big enough, the average is about 7 years. They nurture their eggs for month or two before abandoning them. They hold their eggs in the neck fur to keep them hot, this heat will last for 2-5 years depending on the gender. Female baby dragons tend to be in their eggs longer than the males. It happens very rarely that the mother lays two eggs, which binds the dragons together, and they will never leave each other if they are "twins". The first two years the youngsters dwell in the same river until they grow to big for it. When that happens they will find themselves a lake which is nearly always nearby their old nest. The mother who laid the egg had to be able to hunt when she was guarding the egg and nesting nearby a lake would be perfect for her and her young.
Most river dragons can grow older than most believe. The oldest dragon known was over 150 years old. It is very rare that they die of old age. After the young has reached 10 years, they normally stop growing. It is common however that the males continue growing after the 10 year old age rather than the females.
Most river dragons walk on four feet. They very rarely stand on two legs because their feet are more suit to swimming than to walking and thus they need all four.
River dragons most common prey is fish, it is easy for them to hunt them but the fish doesn't grow very big so they must have a more varied diet to sustain themselves. They collect fruit and sometimes they harvest and protect it with force. Winter is a problem. Then the fish go to the sea but the dragons cannot because they can only live in freshwater. The dragons have no alternative but to stay asleep over the winter only waking up to feed on their harvest.
