Welcome...
Leaves rustle softly in the trees as you walk along a peaceful summer lane. Daydreaming, you stumble upon an old key with a piece of paper attached to it that simply states, look up. As you do, a myriad of letters flutter down from the sky. You gather them in your arms, noticing that they are all signed, in an old Victorian script- Love, Alice.
Welcome to Love, Alice, a poetry site created and run by me, Hannah. I enjoy writing and thought I'd make a place where people could see my scribbles. Have fun and take a look around!

Ambar
A treeStands tall and strong
Unshaken from the moving earth
Like a pillar
It holds fast
Bending, waving, whispering
A river
Flows swiftly and deep
Contorting to the elements
Becoming angry
A rushing torrent
Rumbling, tumbling, crashing
A stone
Sits silent and cold
Waiting for the ages to pass
Mute spectator
Of life's ever-changing dance
Watching guarding, heeding
A shadow
Lurks in places of evil
Ensnaring things that blunder
As a wolf to prey
It stalks the darkness
Hissing, growling, prowling
A star
Shines bright and clear
Sending its light for all to see
Extraterrestrial envoy
Radiant beacon of purity
Gleaming, twinkling, dancing

To Cheese
CheeseA tangy delicacy
Cheddar
Or maybe Swiss
Creamy yummyness
Good on a sandwich
With bologna
And mayo
With a yogurt
A perfect lunch
Or just plain
All by itself
Pepperjack
And summer sausage
Mixed with a good book
Wonderful
For every occasion
And when I close my eyes
I can see
My cheese heaven

Black and White
WhiteIs a solid canvas
Pure and clean, like newly fallen snow
It's a smooth blank space
To write joyful things on
A bright ray of happiness
Void of hue and grayness
Sometimes appearing
In an illustrious silver
Nothing is hidden
In its simple honesty
Black
Is an emptiness
That is not a color, really
It is a deep dark dangerous shadow
Absorbing everything it can
Like a cold dark winter sky
Without a moon to light a path
Leaving you lost in an endless maze
It's a place where creatures with forty eyes
Stare out at you from closet doors
And clowns can make people smile
Though not in a happy way
Mowing
A vast green seaOf unlovely plants
Green and spiky
With no real proficient beauty
I stand there
With my mowing machine
Inefficiently wondering
Do I really have to do this?
With a long drawn-out sigh
I pull the chord
Once, twice
A roar climates
Through the air
Starting up a whirring
Of sharp silver blades
Snip snap
Neatly clipping
Through the overgrown grass
Row after row
I plow through my task
A hot sun beats down
Making my nose pink
Because I forgot to wear sunscreen
I go over a rock
Which bounces against the spinning blades
And startles me with
Its loud 'thunk
A car drives by
I'm too hot to wave
A bug buzzes around my head
I glance up
At the cloudless sky
Wishing for a cooling breeze
That never seems to come
Finally
The grass is mowed
I stand back,
Observing my handiwork
And cannot see any weeds
Or clumps of pointy grass
But only a smooth sea
Of soft green velvet
On a lawn once despicable
But now, very beautiful
And I smile
Because it was worth it

Sing
Life's a songSo sing with pride
Tell the world
There's naught to hide
Sing out loud
Sing out strong
Don't worry 'bout singing
The lyrics wrong
Go ahead,
Take your time
Who says your song
Has to rhyme?
You know that you
Can make it work
Sing with joy
Ignore the qwerks
Build your beat
To fit your style
Write your pitches
Lower, higher
Who knows what you
Could have in store
So don't stop now
Go sing some more
Overly Optimistic
Just a person who'sOverly optimistic
Keeping the world from
Entering total seriousness
Ready, set, go
Magic tricks,
Anyone?
Now it's your turn to smile
Whatever doesn't kill you
Helps to make
You stranger
So don't blow things
Out of proportion
Seeing as how
Everything is one big game
Re-creating terror
Is my specialty
Over the entire city
Until I stop smiling
So why not see the bright side of things
???

Good Riddance
You think you're smartBut I know you're not
You think you can hide it from me
But I saw through
Your false cover
And you can't do it over
Because what I know
What I saw
And it was a bit different
From your original explanation
Let's not rearrange things
That are said and done
Don't try to put this war
Back together
Cause now I'm free
I don't need you
To ruin my life
Like you did
So listen up
I won't repeat it
I won't say over
What I told you the first time
Don't try to come back
Because I know I won't
Remember when you said
I wouldn't quit
Well, I have
And I'm not really sorry
I'm happy to be
Through the pain
And now I'm stronger
Then ever before
I won't repeat it
I'll just put it simple
Goodbye
And good riddance

Sisters Grimm
You never realizedHow much you appreciated them
You took them for granted
And didn't really know it
Then they vanish, without a trace
Leaving nothing
To tell of what happened
Except for a scarlet hand-print
On a shattered dashboard
You're left all alone
To fend for no one
But yourself
Time slowly passes
And you can't escape
The approaching darkness
Then a person
You never knew
Pulls you up
Sets you straight
She says she's your grandmother
But you never knew she existed
And the questions start
Coming back to your mind
And you start to doubt
All over again
You're back in the gloom
In a house that can't be real
Where flowers are served for supper
And a grey shadow keeps watch
With brilliant blue eyes
That never miss a thing
You're trapped in a place
Where a dwarf chaperones a prince
And Snow White teaches class
In a school run by a piper
You're trapped in a place
Where Jabberwockys play pretend
And Little Red Riding Hood is insane
Where three little pigs
Keep law and order
And Ichabod Crane
Watches giant-killers
You're trapped in a place
Where nursery rhymes are real
Where Mirrors talk
And blind mice see
Where a frantic rabbit
Is running out of time
Where Magic Carpets fly
And frog princes sing
Where pixies are ruled
By a fairytale king

Bubbles
Shimmering orbsOf soap and water
Only lasting a second
Beautiful
Until they pop
Only to be forgotten
For more important things
One of nature's marvels
Floating, lighter then air
A minuscule rainbow universe
Fascinating
Until other matters take over
Until life decides
To interrupt your fun
Life is too busy
to enjoy the smaller things
We tend to think
That the faster we go
The quicker we'll be
But all the rushing
Slows us down
So we miss
All the little things
When the sun is shining
And the air clear and bright
Don't bother about details
That won't matter tomorrow
Go outside
And blow some bubbles
Life can wait

Mirror

Mocking
Taunting

I'm real
When really
You're not
Mystic
Revealing
Hidden wishes
Uncovering
Secrets
Stealing
My sanity
Like a fog
A thread
To fantasy
To a world
Of heresy
Never
Stopping
My heart
Stops beating
It pulls me in
Takes me away
I don't exist
Does anything, really?
In a land of lies,
False promises,
And broken hopes
Twisted and woven
Into something demented
A devil's crown
Warped and bent
Reality's connection
Is now blemished
Turned into
A tarnished wire
Nothing endures
The shadow's touch
Forever falling
Never soaring
My wings
Are broken
Wound around
A ghostly evil
I'm vanished
Into nothing
Living in
A mirror
Boredom
A blank canvasWith many possibilities
But I don't know what
I want to paint on it
The many choices
Make me tired
I lay on the couch
And stare at the wall
Should I go outside?
Or would reading be better?
Wait, I thought I had something scheduled
But I can't remember what...
I get up
And wander around
Go outside
And come back in
It's too cold out
The wind is blowing
And I've read
All of the books
I sigh
And go to the window
The sun is setting
The day is over
And tomorrow
I will have plans
Because now I'm tired
Of being bored

Were-light
Glowing orbsOf translucent light
Shimmering
For all to see
Floating
On invisible waves
Between the weeds
Guiding the way
To another land
With faeries and elves
Filled with magic
And a never-ending night
Luring innocents
Into their mayhem
Deep into confusion
Be warned of the were-light

Our Earth
See the waterAlive and dancing
Feel the wind
Wild and free
Hear a bird
Call to others
The world is a treasure
If you use it properly
Plane Crash
Spinning in a havocCrashing, burning up
I've lost all reason to live
Everything is meaningless
Everything, I've given up
Charred metal
Surrounded by ashes
I'm slowly vanishing
Loosing all sanity
I'd rather be with you
Than here in desolation
Just sitting and staring
Out into nothingness
God knew I loved you
So there must be a reason
For Him to do this
Days passing by
Slowly circling
To end the year
A year without you
I've survived this long
I can't quit now
I miss you

Frozen Literature
My fingers are numbMy pencil sticks to the page
Doesn't fly across
The blank space
Doesn't produce
The right words
My hand reacts
A second too late
I've already made
A dozen mistakes
Like taffy
My fingers slowly function
Trying to warm up
Trying to go faster
It must be below zero
I wish it were warmer

Love's Intuition
I don't care about youI don't even know your name
I hardly ever see you
The same as it's always been
I never paid attention
To how you wore your clothes or hair
I'd rather leave that to the other girls
Like I said, I don't really care
But my heart says something else
Whenever you walk by
I stare and trip and stumble
Every time that you say hi
I wish I could ignore it
Go back to the way it was
Before my heart took over
Skipping around you, the way it does
Because I know you have other girls
And you couldn't possibly want me
With my clumsy personage
You would think I couldn't even see
Due to the way I bumble around you
But that's not normal, I swear!
And I think I'm going crazy
Cause now I notice what you wear
And I know I can definitely see you
You're the marvel of my world
You seem to have a halo
And I think you're wonderful
Tears
A storm is comingCan't you feel
The chill in the air
See the dark clouds
Swirling angrily
Threatening to crush me
Listen to the rumble
The ear-splitting crash
Following the flash of light
Falling to pieces
Havoc breaks loose
The sky is crying
Just like me

Can't Erase
I made mistakesBut those were erasable
Practically untraceable
Until I wrote with pen
Now everyone knows
The mistake I made
There's no way to hide it
No way to fight it
I see it everywhere
My eyes in the mirror
Tell me much clearer
How fatal my accident was
I'm pinned against a wall
Under everyone's prying eyes
Just because you told me lies
I can't start over again
Too good to be true
You stole my heartWith your smile
It was yours
The first time I saw you
Something I never knew I had
Sprang to life
When I saw your eyes
You stole my breath
When I saw your face
You were a god
Undeniable grace
Possessed you
I knew it was
Too good to be true
You stole my faith
In a stable world
But I didn't care
If I met wolves
Or death
Or insanity within me
You stole my life
When you left me
Turned your back
Said you didn't want me
I knew you were a dream
But you stole my heart anyway
And the hole you left
Tore me apart, made me die

Another Place
I just live hereIt's not my place
No connections
It's that much easier
When you move on
To another house
Don't promise to write
Or keep in touch
Just bury the memories
Numb the pain
Tell yourself it's fine
The world will stop spinning
Around your desolation
And you'll find
Your destination
A hidden treasure
The mother pearl
In the black sea
Of a cruel world
Your heart will heal
Eventually
But don't lose hope
You'll always have it
Someone loves you
You know they do
March proudly
Put on a mask
Until you're home
Safe, at last

Crazy Wonderland
I think I justGot lost in a wonderland
Can't you see the rabbit hole
I fell through?
Maybe it's just the moon
But if I'm underground
That can't be so
And what about that rabbit
With the uncertain eyes
They say time flies
But I think its stuck here
Where cats are insane
I can't say less
For the Queen
I don't know how tall I am
Or how big I'm suppose to be
A cat may look at a king
I can't find the key
Maybe I lost it
Perhaps I forgot it
When I played croquet
I'd rather go home now
For the excitement is dull
My mind is swirling
I must be mad
To wind up here
In this crazy wonderland
Life's Symphony
Whistle to meA tune so bright
It carries away the darkest night
It makes my heart sing
Makes my eyes joyfully smile
Hum me a melody
Of a sweet happy memory
Down an autumn-lit lane
That we walked when we were young
Mile after mile
Sing me a song
Our song, my beloved
So we can dance once more
And remember
Life's symphony

Forest Fire
Hills of treesTall and strong
Waving, bending
Never-ending
Perfect picture
Of isolation
Skies of smoke
Dark and foreboding
Orange flicker dancing
Slowly larger growing
Scene of desolation

Insane Melody
Insane MelodyDriving me crazy
My mind goes hazy
Nothing is real
Can't get it out
It seems to be mocking
My world disappears
My life it steals
I am but a plaything
Perspective is lost
My eyes become glass
A puppet on a string
Like the sea
It pulls me down
Horrid blackness grabbing, dragging
Such an unbearable cling
It makes it's own
Rules for me
That horrible
Insane
Melody
An Entertaining Feye
Strawberry redGlints in you hair
Emerald green
In your eyes
A smile like gold
Shines on your face
And your laugh
Is an autumn sunrise
The dance of a willow
Is how graceful you move
Bright butterflies
Circle your hands
Birds summon a breeze
Whenever you please
Your skin glitters
Like fine grains of sand
A crown of ivy
Entwines your head
You see the night
Yet bright as the day
Who can feel
If anything's real
When entertained by a feye

Catching Stars
Myriads of diamondsEncrusted in velvet
Life as you know it
Has just disappeared
Twinkle the light
Over the city
Over the country
Tell me a story
Listen to the music
If you can hear
Look for the stepping stones
You won't ever be alone
Follow the symphony
Filled with simplicity
Aim for the highest
You will see...
Stars are easy to catch
If you just believe
Mad Cat

Angry, wrathful
Tail swishing and wagging
Insane to no measure

Dreaming Girl
Dreaming girlStaring at the wall
Seeing fantasies
Inside the wallflowers
Dreaming girl
Tracing portraits
Into the sidewalk
Invisible masterpieces
Dreaming girl
Flying with doves
While lying on the ground
Surrounded by leaves

Making daisies
Out of weeds
Calling butterflies
Dreaming girl

Cuckoo Bird
Cuckoo bird, cuckoo birdHear my plea
Flutter your wings
Take the darkness away
Cuckoo bird, cuckoo bird
Hear my prayer
Banish the dark
From my prison-like lair
Cuckoo bird, cuckoo bird
Hear my cry
Help me up
And teach me to fly
Cuckoo bird, cuckoo bird
Hear my screams
Make me awake
From my hideous dreams
Said the cat
Meow said the catFrom a corner of the room
While meticulously grooming
Her velveteen paws
Purr said the cat
While lying on the bed
Her eyes begging, she wants petted
Her claws unseen
Grrr warned the cat
Her golden eyes narrowed
Her fluffy tail twitching
Claws become unsheathed
Hiss! Sprang the cat
Her sharp claws deadly
Prey shudders quickly
The cat reigns supreme
Crazy Lady
Crazy ladyLying in the street
With a Cannon Rebel
Taking a picture
Of cars passing by
Crazy lady
In my bedroom
Messing with my cat
Getting a perfect pose
Then click click click
Crazy lady
A secret spy
Armed with a camera
Mad with picture-mania
I would know her as
My mother

The Raven
Caw the ravenFill the sky
Black silken wings
Terrify
Me, the land
A swarm of shrouds
Engulf the clouds
Wings beating
Moon phases
A dark cloak
Velvet curtains
Universe torn
Quoth the raven
Nevermore
My Pillow
PillowsSoft and fluffy
Small cloud of happiness
Erasing my worries
Sink into a cotton candy dream
Don't think of anything
Float away to a happier place
Close your eyes
And etch in your memory
The wonderful comfort
Of your pillow
*sigh*
Time
Time, timeFlitting past us
Catch it if you can
Time, time
The clocks are ticking
Seconds passing by
Time, time
Seconds to minutes
Minutes to hours
Time, time
Here and gone
Never coming back
Time is fleeting
Dried Beauty
Faded pink flowersA bouquet of beauty
Preserved forever
Encompassed beauty
Splatters of blossoms
Silent beauty
Droplets of nature
Forever beauty

Old Photos
Portraits hanging on a wallA sign of yesteryear
Paths of history
Forever a mystery
Holding a story
Of loved ones so dear
Black and white paper scenes
Of people and places long gone
Ladies in skirts
Men in trousers and shirts
Bodies held stiff
Faces solemn and long
And so you wonder 'Why do they
Always look grumpy and sad?
Sure, life gets you down
But you don't have to frown
So why aren't they cheerful?
It makes me very mad
But...
I look at those pictures
And sometimes I'll see
Somewhere
And somehow
Someone smiling
At me
Silent Bitterness
I hate the silenceSo why can't you answer
When I say hi?
What did I ever do to you
To make you treat me the way you do
It's like I'm not even there
With you looking past me like
I'm just thin air
I don't want to hear your life
I just want to be comprehended
This weird silence ended
Is it too much to ask
For you to say hi?
Bluebird
Sing me a songColorful bluebird
My sky is a dark grey
I want something to cheer me
Sing me a tune
To remind me of better days
Bring the sunshine back
And turn back the clock
No! Please, don't fly away
Don't leave me alone
In this darkening gloom
Take me with you
Lead me back
Pretty bluebird, take me
Where I can see the stars
Hear the ocean cry
Sing away my heart
Take it where I can always hear
The pretty music of the wind
Bonnie little bluebird

And, as you read the letters, you wonder- who is this Alice? Well, here is your answer; whoever you want her to be. These are a few Alice's I gained inspiration from...Alice Cullen
Alice Cullen is a vampire whose family only prey on animals, while assuming the role of normal people. She has the remarkable talent to see things that might happen in the future.Quote: "Some things are more certain than others… like the weather. People are harder. I only see the course they're on while they're on it. Once they change their minds - make a new decision, no matter how small - the whole future shifts." ~Twilight
Alice in Wonderland
Alice in Wonderland is the bizarre story of a girl who, after chasing a white rabbit down its hole, finds herself in a mixed-up world of strange creatures, non-existent places and the most outrageous food items.Quote: "Well, I'll eat it," said Alice, "and if it makes me grow larger, I can reach the key; and if it makes me grow smaller, I can creep under the door: so either way I'll get into the garden, and I don't care which happens!" ~Alice in Wonderland
Alice Bings
Another Alice is the brother of Alec in The Phantom Tollbooth. This unusual family obviously has different ways of seeing things than we do.Quote: "I'm Alec Bings; I see through things... the only thing I can't see is whatever happens to be right in front of my nose. My father sees to things, my mother looks after things, my brother sees beyond things, my uncle sees the other side of every question, and my little sister Alice sees under things. And whatever she can't see under, she overlooks." ~The Phantom Tollbooth

Delighted Limericks
Reading poetry is one of my favorite things to do, especially when I need to wind down. Here are some of my favorite verses for your enjoyment as well as mine.
The Lady of Shallot
(One verse) By Alfred Lord Tenneyson-----------------------
She left the web, she left the loom,
She made three paces through the room,
She saw the water-lily bloom,
She saw the helmet and the plume,
She look'd down to Camelot.
Out flew the web and floated wide;
The mirror crack'd from side to side;
The curse is come upon me," cried
The Lady of Shalott.

Fire and Ice
By Robert Frost-----------------------
Some say the world will end in fire,
Some say in ice.
From what I've tasted of desire
I hold with those who favor fire.
But if it had to perish twice,
I think I know enough of hate
To say that for destruction ice
Is also great
And would suffice.
Me
By Walter de la Mare-----------------------
As long as I live
I shall always be
My Self - and no other,
Just me.
Like a tree.
Like a willow or elder,
An aspen a thorn,
Or a cypress forlorn.
Like a flower,
For its hour
A primrose, a pink,
Or a violet
Sunned by the sun, and with dewdrops wet.
Always just me.

Fog
By Carl Sandburg-----------------------
The fog comes
On little cat feet
It sits looking
Over harbor and city
On silent haunches
And then, moves on
All That Is Gold Does Not Glitter
By J. R. R. Tolkien-----------------------
All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.
From the ashes a fire shall be woken,
A light from the shadows shall spring;
Renewed shall be blade that was broken,
The crownless again shall be king.
Jabberwocky
By Lewis Carroll-----------------------
Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe:
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.
Beware the Jabberwock, my son!
The jaws that bite, the claws that catch!
Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun
The frumious Bandersnatch!
He took his vorpal sword in hand:
Long time the manxome foe he sought --
So rested he by the Tumtum tree,
And stood awhile in thought.
And, as in uffish thought he stood,
The Jabberwock, with eyes of flame,
Came whiffling through the tulgey wood,
And burbled as it came!
One, two! One, two! And through and through
The vorpal blade went snicker-snack!
He left it dead, and with its head
He went galumphing back.
And, has thou slain the Jabberwock?
Come to my arms, my beamish boy!
O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!
He chortled in his joy.
Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe;
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.
Who Has Seen the Wind?
By Christina Rossetti-----------------------
Who has seen the wind?
Neither I nor you:
But when the leaves hang trembling,
The wind is passing through.
Who has seen the wind?
Neither you nor I:
But when the trees bow down their heads,
The wind is passing by.
Crossroads
By Lyric at Delphi-----------------------
I'm comfortable against the wind
Carry me toward where it wants to take me
Carry me onto the road less traveled
Set me down, set me down on the edge of it all
I'll escape
When I find a crossroad
That's not broken and wild and frayed
I'll be waiting for a good one
Don't want to leave one stop too early
Looking past my fears
Blinking back my tears
Still searching for the crossroad
I know I'll fall more than twice
All my life I've been anything but wise
I get back up and keep at my journey
Help me, help me, help me write my happy ending
There's no way
Will I find a crossroad
That's not broken and wild and frayed
I'll be waiting for a good one
Don't want to leave one stop too early
Looking past my fears
Blinking back my tears
Still searching for the crossroad
I almost break down
Keep crying, hurting, hating
Why am I alone?
Alone
I have to find a crossroad
That leads far away
Leave the ones like you behind
Kick the dust into your eyes
Not too long
This ain't for long
Up ahead is our crossroad
Cat's Been Sick
From I Saw Esau: The Schoolchild's Pocket Book-----------------------
Quick! Quick!
The cat's been sick.
Where? Where?
Under the chair.
Hasten! Hasten!
Fetch the basin.
Alack! Alack!
It is too late,
The carpet's in
An awful state
No! No!
It's all in vain
For she has licked it
Up again.

Love, Alice
By Jane-----------------------
Running through the wide open land
A forest up ahead
It seems unusual since this is a place of water and sand
The clouds roll in
Lighting and Thunder strikes the ground
Instead of rain pieces of paper fall all around
Each letter that falls note the words ~Love Alice

Berlin Wall
By Madeline at Chasing Violet-----------------------
They watched the wall go up
She watched from the west
He watched from the east
Both too weak to whisper protest
They watched the wall go up
She watched in tears
He watched in dismay
Too strong to show his fears
They watched the wall go up
She watched in pain
He watched with desire
Both sitting in the rain
They watched the wall go up
He watched with desire
She knew it was too much
She couldn't stop the burning fire
He watched her run to the wall
Tears staining her face
He listened to the gunshot's ring
And never felt her warm embrace

Things you wonder
Have any questions? Please tell me and I'll put them up. Thanks!
Can you make me a layout?
Well, it depends. If I am really busy with my sites and other projects, no. If I know you, maybe. It mostly depends on if I have time.
Could you write me a poem?
Sure! It might not be a good poem, but I can write you one. (Try to do it yourself first though.) :3
Can we be sister sites?
No, thanks; I've had several sister sites in the past that either closed or became inactive on me. I might start looking for a sister site again in the future, but for right now I'd rather skip the whole process. But please, feel free to mail me about becoming affiliates!
