Welcome to the guild website for Horcrux.
Here you will find all sorts of fun things to make your guild experience more exciting.

First Years, please remember to get Sorted and to enable guild-mailers. Thank you.

You can now sign up to teach. After looking through the class application you can neomail Tania with the class you want to teach. You can also suggest a class if it is not on the list.

If you have any questions, comments, suggestions or concerns, please neomail Tania.

The updates for the most recent term will be placed here.
It will be cleared each time a new term begins.

The previous months will be archived in this section.

April 2014

Hi there, first year! New to Horcrux, huh? It's a good job you came here. The following page details the things you should do after you first join.
  1. Read over the Rules and Howler sections of the website.
  2. All new members must read over the Rules. If the guild rules aren't followed, the rule breaker will be issued a Howler.

  3. Turn on guild mailers.
  4. To enable guild mailers you would head over to your preferences. After checking the box to enable guild mailings, be sure click 'Change Your Details'.

It is important to turn on guild mailers because important announcements are made (such as a new activity or a date of an event i.e. Hogsmeade Trips) through guild mailers. If you don't enable the mailers you may miss out on the important information.

  5. Complete the Sorting Hat quiz.
  6. Before you can take part in any classes or activities you must be sorted into a house. You can follow this link to get sorted or click on the link to the left.

Note: If you have been inactive in the guild for 5 days or more and have not yet taken the sorting quiz you will be put into the house with the least amount of students.

  7. Introduce yourself over on the guild board.
  8. Being a new member you need to introduce yourself to the other members of Horcrux in order to start creating friendships. We understand that you may be shy so we don't ask for you to just apparate in and let everyone know about yourself but easing into the chatter with a hey or hello (check the rules on posting) here and there is fine until you feel more comfortable to properly join in with conversations.

  9. Browse the website.
  10. The website holds lots of information on the different activities available to you and all the areas that you can experience as a member of Horcrux. These fun activities include opening an account at Gringotts, visiting your common room and taking part in the guild auctions.

  11. Enroll in classes.
  12. It is mandatory for all first years to take at least one class but if you wish you can enroll in as many classes as you'd like!
Don't forget that in order to progress through the years you must complete different homework activities.

  13. Earn points for your house.
  14. Each term you can help your house win the house cup by earning points through various activities and classes. A full list has been created to make it easy for you to identify ways in which you can earn house points.

  15. Make friends and have fun.
  16. One of the most important goals for Horcrux is that we create a sense of community and friendship where people with similar likes can come together and have fun.

Before first years can enroll in classes and take part in activities they must first be sorted into a house. The following quiz acts as the Sorting Hat. Please try and answer these questions honestly. If there is a specific house you wish to be sorted into, chances are that the Sorting Hat will take this into account.

Note: When sending your sorting, please only send the question numbers and answer numbers. Do not send the full written answer. Thank you!
  1. You see a first year student being bullied by a group of sixth year students. What do you do?
    1. Join in the fun and get a couple of shoves of your own in.
    2. Stand between the first year student and the sixth year students—even if they are bigger than you.
    3. Go fetch the nearest Professor to put a stop to this nonsense.
    4. Get a group of your friends together and go rescue the first year—after all, they are a member of your house.

  2. You are trying out for the Quidditch team. Which position do you choose?
    1. Beater
    2. Chaser
    3. Seeker
    4. Keeper

  3. You've noticed a classmate has left their essay on Werewolves on their desk. No one is around. What do you do?
    1. Take the essay and turn it in as your own work.
    2. Give it to the professor and let them figure out what to do with it.
    3. Take the essay and ask around until you find its owner.
    4. Compare the essay with yours to see which is better.

  4. While walking in muggle London on your way to the Leaky Cauldron you notice a woman being robbed. What do you do?
    1. Nothing. She's only a muggle. It's not your problem.
    2. Stand close to ensure the woman's safety and then go and comfort her afterwards.
    3. Creep up under your invisibility cloak and scare off the robber.
    4. Watch from afar to make sure the woman not harmed then walk away.

  5. If you could only take ONE class at Hogwarts, which class would it be?
    1. Ancient Runes.
    2. Potions
    3. Defense Against the Dark Arts
    4. Charms

  6. Your dorm mate forgot to complete their potions homework! You have two hours before class starts. You have some homework of your own to finish, and also want to attend Quidditch try outs. What do you do?
    1. Miss tryouts and help your friend finish their assignment.
    2. Help your friend until it is time for try outs, then leave.
    3. Tell them it's their fault for forgetting to do their work.
    4. Help them with their work as long as you can, making changes to your own work as you discover new things.

  7. Which house would you rather not be sorted into?
    1. Gryffindor
    2. Ravenclaw
    3. Hufflepuff
    4. Slytherin

  8. If you had the choice, which house would you prefer to be sorted into?
    1. Gryffindor
    2. Ravenclaw
    3. Hufflepuff
    4. Slytherin

Note: When sending your sorting, please only send the question numbers and answer numbers. Do not send the full written answer. Thank you!

Now that you've completed the Sorting Hat quiz you can send your answers to Tania or Mel. You should get a neomail about your sorting within 48 hours.

There are only a few rules that need to be followed but we do ask that you follow them all.
  1. Follow all of TNT's rules.
  2. Before we even get to our own rules it is very important that you must first follow all rules set down by TNT. To refresh yourself on these rules you can look over the Chat Rules and the extended and lengthy Terms of Service.

One of the most important rules held by TNT is no posting offsite websites (unless it is listed as a Recommended Site by TNT!). Posting about an offsite website can be risky for guilds, their members and the poster themselves.

If someone mentions an offsite website the post will automatically be deleted.

  3. Be at least semi-literate.
  4. Although we all have our moments where we use an excessive number of smilies, chat speak tends to melt our brain into a puddle of goo. Not only is this NOT helpful but we would really like to avoid this headache.

We try to avoid the overuse of smilies and acronyms (brb, gtg etc) but we know if you're in the habit of doing this you might forget and have a single rant riddled with smilies. We are willing to overlook this once.

We do ask that you don't use any acronyms i.e. brb, lol. It doesn't take that much longer to type be right back.
We also ask that you use proper sentences and punctuation, including capital letters and full stops.

  5. Absolutely no spamming.
  6. Do not post on the guild message board (not including the advertising board) more than three times in a row. See Howlers section for further explanation. If you happen to post the same message twice please do not post again explaining this. We understand that this happens sometimes with dodgy browsers and we will go ahead delete the extra post, no problem.
Each post has to contain a minimum of 6 words.

  7. Good manners are key.
  8. We are a drama free guild that insist you use good manners to the house heads and all guild members. Please and thank you go a long way. We don't want drama and we have a howler system whereby people who cause trouble get a strike against their name. Too many strikes and you're gone. Simple as that.

  9. Participation
  10. In order to have a guild full of active members, we had to put a participation rule in place. In order to remain a member of this guild, you must participate in at LEAST TWO of the activities offered. We will have classes, common room activities and many other activities that you can participate in, so choosing two shouldn't be too bad.

We aren't completely heartless, so if you make plans outwith neopets (as you rightly should!) and you can't get your activities done just drop us an owl (neomail) and you will be excused for the period of time needed.

By breaking any of the above rules you will be given a howler. No exceptions. See that section for more details.

Howlers are our form of discipline. This system is in place to make sure that everyone follows the rules, making the guild a safe and positive environment for all of our members. The howler level of each member will be kept private. If you wish to know which level you are on you can neomail Tania.

Howler System Breakdown

The system operates as follows:
  1. First Offense: Warning on the boards.
  2. Second Offense: 5 house points taken from your house and notified via neomail.
  3. Third Offense: 10 house points taken from your house, and your final warning will be sent via neomail.
  4. Fourth Offense: 25 house points taken from your house, and you will either be silenced or removed from the guild, depending on the severity of the offense.

All we ask is that everyone follows the guild rules put in place, but if there should be an issue within the guild the Howler system will be enforced.

Offenses

Offenses are as follows:

Message Board - Posting more than twice in a row:
Message Board - Being rude or saying inappropriate things:
Inactivity in the guild:

Reporting Rule Breakers

If you feel someone is breaking one of the rules, notify Tania.

We will monitor everything to the best of our abilities, but if you notice someone doing something against the rules, or you feel someone has said something that makes you uncomfortable feel free to neomail Tania. We will take care of the situation. We want everyone in this guild to feel safe, and to create a positive environment for all to enjoy.

If you feel there should be any rules added to our list, please notify Tania. House points will be rewarded if your rule makes the list.

Just like at Hogwarts, this guild will hold quidditch tournaments.
The first quidditch tournament will be held once each house a full team. The first tournament will involve a single elimination.

Note: The teams will be rotated at the end of each term so that other members can join in with Quidditch if they want. If no one else applies the teams will stand as they are.

Method

A quidditch match is carried out with each team member playing a different game. The keeper will play korbats lab, the beater will play kass basher, the chaser will play crisis courier and the seeker will play a random game that is different for each match.
We tried to make each game match the action that each quidditch player would actually do on a quidditch pitch.

Team Members

In order to be full, a team must have 5 students. Listed here are the positions that are available.

Gryffindor
Keeper: position available.
Beater: position available.
Chaser: position available.
Seeker: position available.
Substitute: position available.

Beater: Melody - Melody7_.

Seeker: position available.
Substitute: position available.

Quidditch Application

Remember you must be at least a second year student before you can take part in Quidditch!

There is no special application for becoming a member in your house quidditch team. You just need to neomail your Head of House letting them know that you wish to join, why you wish to join and what position you would like.
Try and be clever when you choose your position. I've listed the games that each position plays. If you aren't that good at a specific game it wouldn't be wise to ask for that position on the team.

Student Awards

At the end of each term a student awards ceremony will be held in the great hall. There are a number of awards including the top student and the ultimate chatterbox.

During the last week of term Tania and the House Heads will decide who best deserves each award and then the last weekend of term the ceremony will take place where the awards are handed out in the form of personalised graphics.

The terms here at Horcrux last for around 2 months. At the end of each term the house cup is awarded to the house who has earned the most points.

Term Two: 26 May - 18 July
Term One: 14 April - 23 May

The Horcrux version of Gringotts is very similar to Gringotts from the books. Gringotts holds all your Galleons that you have earned from certain activities. You will get 15 Galleons from Gringotts when you first open your account!

As each person's Galleon count must be recorded individually, we do not by default save your Galleon count. You must first open an account by neomailing Tania and letting her know that you wish to take part in this activity and she will from then on record the number of Galleons you earn.

Frequently Asked Questions

If you have a question not listed here, neomail Tania. She will answer your question then add it here!

{Q} What is Gringotts?
[A] Gringotts is the place where Horcrux members can store their Galleons.

{Q} Why do I have to open an account?
[A] Each persons galleons are logged separately and this can be pretty time consuming. If you don't want to take part in this activity we would rather not spend time logging your galleon count when we don't have to. By opening an account we know that you are interested in Hogsmeade and wish to take part in it.

{Q} How do I earn Galleons?
[A] There are various activities around the website that give you galleons. As more activities and such are added the earning galleons section will be updated.

{Q} How do I open an account at Gringotts?
[A] To open a new account all you have to do is neomail Tania letting her know.

{Q} How do I find out how many Galleons I have?
[A] Head over to your student section in your house common room to find out your Gringotts balance.

{Q} Can I spend my Galleons?
[A] If you are a third year (check your student section in your common room) or above and a Hogsmeade weekend has been announced then you are able to spend your galleons.

House Cup Extras!

In the lead up to the end of term and the House Cup winners being announced, Horcrux will have a few extra activities. These activities will be for members to complete to try and get some more points to give their house that final push towards winning the House Cup.

Who is This?

Can you identify the person from the following image? Identifying the person correctly earns your house 10 points!

Send all guesses to Tania.

Word Search

This time, all the words in the word search begin with the letter B. Find all the words listed below and you can earn your house 40 points.

Complete the word search, upload it, add it to a petpage and neomail the petpage link to Tania.

Draco's Apple

Send the page of where the apple is to Tania.

Malevolent Sentient Poogle Plushie

Send the name of the neopet to Tania.

Class is unavailable!

This class is unavailable to teach.

Either this class is already taken and the class page will be added soon or the class is currently under application!

So I hear you are looking to become a teacher? Well, it's really quite simple, have a read through the requirements. If you you meet them all, fill out the form shown below. You can earn your house 60 points for each lesson and add up to 15 galleons to your Gringotts account per lesson!

In order to get your house points and Galleons for each lesson you must neomail Tania when you add a new lesson.

Requirements

There are a few requirements you must meet if you wish to teach a class. These are:

Duties

If your application is successful and you are now a teacher there are certain duties that you must carry out. These are: Inactive class with little/no updates?
If a class hasn't been updated with a new lesson in 3 weeks, a reminder mail will be sent. If the teacher hasn't replied to this mail a week later, the class will be removed from the website.
It is unfair for people to hand in homework and not get it graded because the teacher has become inactive.

Every teacher must stick to the following marking scheme:
O - Outstanding - 60 points.
E - Exceeds Expectations - 50 points.
A - Acceptable - 40 points.
P - Poor - 30 points.
D - Dreadful - 20 points.
T - Troll - 10 points.

The Application

The application to become a teacher involves two steps. The first step is simply filling out the short written application found below. If your written application gets the thumbs up you then move onto the second part of the application - the petpage application. The second step involves creating a mock-up of the class; the sections you plan on having, a suitable layout and an introductory lesson with homework.

The chances are, if you are the only person who has applied and it looks like you've put the in the effort making your class, you'll get the teaching position you want.
  1. The name of the class wish to teach.
  2. Why do you think you'd do well at teaching this class?
  3. The titles of the first 5 lessons.
  4. Literacy level.
  5. Html/css ability.
  6. Is there anything else you want to add?
