Genericizing is not a contest and does not give out Neopoint or item prizes!Hi! You've reached Genericizing, a competition site run by Borealis (that'd be me). Genericizing was once purely an SOTM site, but as it began to decline I decided to downsize the SOTM and add graphic competitions. So now Genericizing offers button, pixel, icon and banner competitions, as well as a site competition.
Although I use the acronyms SOTM, BOTM, POTM, IOTM, and BAOTM, Genericizing's competitions aren't tied into a specific month. Their entrance phase runs until they have the required number of competitors (five for the graphic competitions, ten for the SOTM), and their voting phases run for a week after the third vote in the competition is cast (the SOTM requires six votes because it has more entrants). If there is a tie for first place, voting will continue until the day after the tie is broken.
Genericizing has been open since August 1st, 2009. Genericizing is not a real word (I made it up) but if it was, it would mean "making generic." Perhaps not the most original of names, but I like it.

The BOTM voting is closed but the new competition hasn't started and winners have not been announced due to an ethical dilemma: a user in the BOTM used a method to gain votes that was not against the rules when they used it, but now is--to the user in question: I'm not blaming you because I initially said it was fine. I'm trying to figure out how to resolve this and be fair to all parties, so please be patient.

Sorry, but we always need rules. These are the general rules for all of the competitions--further notes will be at the different competitions.If you only want to vote and have no interest in entering, you can just scroll down to the bottom of the section and read the voters' rules. They aren't nearly as long as the entrance rules, I promise.
Entrance Rules
Rules to follow if you want to participate in Genericizing's competitions.1. You must link back to Genericizing while you are in any competition. If you do not have a site, please put the link back on your lookup. If you do not link back, I will have to remove you from the competition. You need to link back before voting starts because that's when I check and remove sites that aren't linking back.
2. You may not bribe, force, etc. people to vote for you.
3. Your entry has to be 100 percent your own work. No, you may not use button or icon bases, or pixel outlines from other sites, even if you have permission.
4. Please don't Neomail me about entering a graphic competition until you've finished your graphic.
5. Where the form says "pet," you say "chicken." That's how I know you've read the rules.
6. You may enter multiple competitions, and you may enter the SOTM with multiple sites. If you're going to send more than one form, please send them in the same Neomail.
7. You may not enter a competition if you placed first in it in its last cycle. You may enter a competition if you participated in its last cycle but did not place first. You may enter the SOTM again if one of your sites placed first, but you must enter with a different site.
8. Please do not use guild mailing or offsite places to advertise your entry. You may advertise on guild message boards, on your site, on message board sites, on the boards, etc. but please refrain from using methods that not all Neopians have access to, as it is unfair.
9. Your entry must comply with Neopets rules--so, no profanity and don't try to give me an offsite link for your site or the location of your graphic. However, you don't need to put your graphic on an empty petpage: it can be on your site, on your lookup, on a pet lookup--whatever is best for you.
Note: in graphics competitions (i.e., everything but SOTM) you do not have to have a site to enter, and you need to put a sentence telling me where to find you graphic (with a link, if your graphic isn't on your site) in the "location" area of the form.
Voting Rules
And here're the rules to follow if you want to vote and help someone win.1. You may only vote once per round. You may not vote on multiple accounts (and I'd prefer that you vote on your main).
2. If you are going to vote for multiple competitions at the same time, please send in multiple forms in the same Neomail.
