to Plaudits!Note: Plaudits is not a contest and does not give out NP or item prizes.
Hello and welcome to Plaudits! I'm Borealis and I'll be your host today. Plaudits is a unique competition site where users sign up in one of three categories to complete challenges and see, over the course of the month, who's the last entrant standing! Interested? Check out the info below and then see about entering.
Plaudits has its antecedents in Genericizing, a competition that I opened on August 1, 2009, and became Plaudits on September 1, 2012. It's gone through a variety of incarnations before arriving at its current state on September 4, 2013.
December 8, 2013: Updating site entrants. It's been a while since some people entered, and I want to make sure that they're still able to participate, so I've sent out Neomails to a couple people I'm not sure about.
December 2, 2013: One new graphics entrant, Melody.
December 1, 2013: Nat has joined the customization competition as a judge.
November 24, 2013: One new site entrant, Joaquin.
November 23, 2013: Listed in one new directory.
November 19, 2013: I've been advertising, but no new entrants or judges. Maybe you can fix that?
November 2, 2013: Since I have not heard from Josie, I have closed the customization competition, with Marissa as the winner. Congratulations, Marissa! Entry and judging slots for the customization competition are now open. Marissa has decided to serve as a judge.
November 1, 2013: One new graphics entrant: Elisabeth! Since I have not received a response from Josie, I will end the customization competition tomorrow (should be today, but I'm pretty busy today).
October 29, 2013: Nick has joined the graphics competition as a judge. All of the judging spots for the graphics competition are now filled!
October 28, 2013: Plaudits is now listed in one new directory.
October 27, 2013: I have decided that if Josie does not complete her customization entry by November 1, I will close the competition and declare Marissa the winner.
October 23, 2013: Rico has joined the graphics competition as a judge.
October 20, 2013: Elisabeth has decided not to judge the graphics competition.
October 19, 2013: Annaliese has joined the graphics competition.
October 18, 2013: Kiwi's critiques are up, and thus the first graphics competition has ended! Congratulations to the winner: Emma! I hope everyone had a good time during the competition and will consider participating with Plaudits again in the future. On that note, entrance is now open for the next cycle of the graphics competition. Kiwi has elected to continue as a judge for the next cycle and Elisabeth has joined us as a judge, but there is still one judge spot open.
October 16, 2013: The customization competition's deadline has passed, but I haven't received Josie's entry yet, so I suppose it'll have to be delayed too. I'm trying to get in touch with Kiwi for the graphics competition; if it takes much longer I think I'll just close the competition, using the scores from the other two judges to determine the winner.
October 13, 2013: One customization entrant withdrew. One entrant sent in their submission.
October 12, 2013: One customization vote cast. Voting has ended for the customization competition, and Annie has been eliminated. The next challenge, Spooktacular, has been released, and entries will be due October 16.
October 10, 2013: One customization vote cast. In the graphics competition, my critique for Emma is up. The graphics competition was intended to end today, but I haven't heard from Kiwi yet, so it looks like it may have to be extended somewhat.
October 9, 2013: Six customization votes cast.
October 8, 2013: Six customization votes cast. Ashe's critiques for both graphics entrants and my critique for Josie are in.
October 7, 2013: Two customization entrants sent in their submission. Voting for the customization competition has started and will end October 12. Judging for the graphics competition has also started; it will end October 10. Six customization votes cast.
October 6, 2013: Two customization entrants and one graphics entrant sent in their submissions.
October 5, 2013: Mist's critique for Frogtownfairground is up, so the judging for the customization competition is over. The total scores have been calculated, and unfortunately, Meg has been eliminated. The next challenge, All That Jazz, has been posted and will be due October 7.
October 4, 2013: I'm feeling a bit sick, but I'll do my best to keep Plaudits updated. PF's critiques for Frogtownfairground and Marissa are up, as are her scores for all entrants. My critique for Marissa is also up. Emma has send in her entry for Rehabilitation.
October 3, 2013: Mist's critiques for Meg and Josie and PF's for Annie are up. Voting for the graphics competition has ended; unfortunately, Hayley has been eliminated. Round 3's challenge is Rehabilitation and will be due on October 7.
October 2, 2013: Three graphics votes cast. My critique for Meg is up.
October 1, 2013: Mist's critiques for Marissa and Annie are up. My critiques for Josie and Annie are also up.
September 30, 2013: The last two customization entrants submitted their entrants, so judging for round 1 of the customization competition has started! PF's critiques for Josie and Meg and mine for Frogtownfairground are up. One graphics vote cast.
September 29, 2013: Three graphics votes cast. Two customization entrants submitted their entry.
September 28, 2013: Since I have not heard from Delightful, I'm afraid that the graphics competition must continue without her. Voting has started! Judges and entrants cannot vote, but anyone else can, so why not choose your favorite graphic? Voting will end October 3. One vote cast.
September 27, 2013: One customization entrant submitted their entry.
September 26, 2013: One new site entrant, Annaliese, and one new customization entrant, Marissa. All of the customization entrant slots are now filled, so the first challenge, Fantastic Four, has been posted.
September 25, 2013: My plan at the moment is to remove Delightful from the graphics competition and proceed with a shortened competition (three rounds instead of four) if she does not respond to my Neomails by September 28, a week after the deadline. I know this is a pretty long time for the other entrants to wait for the competition to continue, but I want to give her the greatest possible chance to respond, since I don't want anyone booted from the competition just because they were unable to get to the computer for a few days.
September 24, 2013: Hayley has decided to return to the competition and has submitted her entry.
September 23, 2013: PF has chosen to withdraw from the graphics competition. I will be asking Hayley, who was eliminated in the last round, if she would like to return to the competition, but if she chooses not to, or if Delightful continues to fail to respond, I will probably have to shorten the competition to fewer than four rounds.
September 22, 2013: Well, the deadline for Frostbite entries has come and gone, and half of the entrants haven't sent in their submission. I'll be Neomailing the two late birds to ask if there's anything wrong, and if I can't get all entries in in a couple days, I'll start looking at what I can do to continue with the competition anyway.
September 21, 2013: One graphics entrant sent in their submission.
September 20, 2013: One graphics entrant sent in their submission.
September 19, 2013: The second graphics challenge, Frostbite, has been released and will be due on September 21. Scores for the first challenge have been announced; you can see them in the archives section. Unfortunately, Hayley has been eliminated; better luck next time!
September 18, 2013: All of my critiques are up! Final scores and the next challenge will be released tomorrow. I also added an archive section to hold all the previous challenges, now that we're actually about to have a previous challenge.
September 17, 2013: All of Kiwi's critiques are up.
September 16, 2013: All of Ashe's critiques are up, as are my (Borealis's) critiques for Josie and Delightful.
September 15, 2013: The last graphics entrant sent in their submission, so judging has now started for the graphics competition. One new site entrant.
September 13, 2013: One graphics entrant sent in their submission, and one new customization entrant. There's only one slot left in the customization competition, so be sure to send in your form if you want to participate!
September 12, 2013: Two more entrants' submissions are up.
September 11, 2013: One new graphics entrant, Hayley. Since there are now five entrants, the Entrance stage of the graphics competition is over! The first challenge, Overview, has been released and will be due on Sept. 15. One entrant has sent in their submission.
September 9, 2013: Annie has been added to the customization competition. Turnip's description is up, too.
September 7, 2013: One new customization entrant: Frogtownfairground.
September 6, 2013: One new customization judge, Mist. All judging slots for the customization competition are now filled! Still seeking judges for the site-making competition and entries for all competitions.
September 5, 2013: We now have more judges! Ashe and Kiwi Katalyst will be judging the graphics competition; all the graphics competition judge slots are now filled. Additionally, one new entrant: Malisha in the site-making competition.
September 4, 2013: Today is Plaudits' grand re-opening! There's an entirely new layout and basically an entirely new site concept. The competitions are completely different! I could tell you all the ways in which they're different, but it's probably better if you just check out the big long info section I've written. Feel free to enter or apply to be a judge!
