Story

I have a story...you want to hear it? ...Well, here it is, I guess.

There I was, laying next to my younger sister, Rose. I was only about 5 months old, and she was about 3 months old. We were lying in our den, next to our mother. My mother never told me what happened to my father, and I've never met him. My mother also wore a cold, black stone around her neck, with a crack going halfway down the center. No matter what, she always had it.

A few months later, me and my sister were almost fully grown up. My mother was getting old. But, she still wore that stone around her neck, and it was still the same as always. The weather was getting warmer, but that was bad in one way: hunters. There were hunters that came to the forest, often. Perhaps my father was taken by one of them? I'll never know.

Then there was one night. My mother went out for some fresh air, and told me and my sister to stay behind, so, we listened. She hasn't been outside for about a week. Me and Rose were talking about the past winter, when we hear a gunshot. We both rush up and run out of the den. There was a hunter who caught our mother. There was nothing we could do, the hunter was already carrying her away, so we just stood there and watched.

After the hunter was out of sight, I retraced his footsteps. I saw two little black things on the ground; the stone, but it was split in half. I motioned for Rose to come see, and she suggested that we each wear one half around our necks, all the time, to remember our mother. I found some string the hunter had dropped, and but a piece around each stone. I gave one to Rose, and the other I kept to myself. I put it on, and as soon as I did, a cold chill ran through me. I just thought it must have been the wind.

It was about a year later. I guess I did pretty well living without my mother. But later on that year, my sister left to live in the mountians. We each still have our half of the stone, too. I guess I was doing well for living on my own. The hunters have seem to left, so I was glad I was safe.

But then strange things started happening with my stone. It was just start swaying back and fourth randomly, it would al of a sudden turn cold, or hot. I knew something was wrong. So I just thought I must have been in too much heat. So I went into my den for a good sleep.

I opened my eyes. I wasn't awake, so I must have been dreaming. I was in the forest where I lived, so it couldn't have been anything special. Then I thought I head someone. I turned around, and not too far away, I saw an orange and white furred lupe walking towards me. I haven't seen fur like hers before. She also had a dark blue bow on one ear.

Hello, it's great to see you again!" she yelped excitedly. I tilted my head, confused. But I never saw her before! She then laughed at my confused face. She then explained to me that she was Rose! She told me that she was the one making the stone do the odd things. I asked her why. She said that she should have stayed with me. She said she found some lupes in the mountains and was living with them, but she'd rather be with me. But she couldn't walk back, it was too far and dangerous, and she didn't know the way. So I asked her why she was telling me all this.

So she told me that she is living with me. Once again I was confused. So she told me, "Mother wouldn't let me travel back, so she let me do this. I'm not going to die or anything, but my spirit will always be with you. It's all in the power of the stone." So now until the stone pieces are reinforced back to together, she'll always be watching, and she'll be right beside me, no matter where I am, or what I do. And sometimes, I wish she would just go away...
