Introduction

Once upon a time, there was a Latios and a Latias. The Latios, the bigger of the two, was named Jet. Latias, the gentler was named Hera. They loved each other. Being legendaries they stayed away from most people. One day they had a son and named him Arthur. 7 months later they had a daughter, Athena. Arthur helped take care of his sister. One day, when Arthur was 9, Athena 2, their parents were out. All Latios can use telepathy. Latias cannot but instead, they can reflect the sun to transform their skin in any form they want. Arthur was taking care of his little sister when his dad sent him a telepathic message. "Son, I love you. Take care of your sister. Your mother and I... We will never see you again." "Daddy, what do you mean? Why?" Arthur asked him through telepathy. "Humans. Stay away from them. Protect your sis..." That was the last Arthur heard of his father. His final wish was for Arthur to take care of Athena. So he did. For 14 months they grew together alone on an island. They called each other Latios and Latias. Arthur didn't want to hear the name his mother picked for her because it reminded him of her. Latios was gathering food one day. He came home to realize Athena was gone.

Chapter 1

Latias, where are you?" Latios worried. He had taught Latias to stay away from humans but she never listened to him. She always wanted to know "Why do we have to stay away? They look nice. They can't possibly hurt us." Latios never told her about what happened to their parents. He never told her her name. He hopped he could get away with it and never tell his sister this depressing news. "Where are you?" he looked frantically around their whole island. No one knew about it but them. They called it Serene Island, even though it really was a peninsula. It was next to a giant city but you could never tell. Latios looked from the sky. Nothing. He searched the trees, lakes; he even checked the rocks near Serene Island which were deserted. He looked out to the city. "No..." he thought. "She wouldn't. Would she?" he thought.

Chapter 2

Latios flew into the clouds so he could see the city while being hidden. He saw a young girl very sad. Then another girl came over to her and tried comforting her. The second girl was speechless. "Latias!" Latios roared. The girls looked up. Latios swooped down from the clouds and grabbed the second girl by the scruff of her shirt. When out of view from the other girl Latios let the girl down. "How did you know?" the girl asked, transforming into Latias. "I know you, Latias. You are sensitive to emotions and that girl was depressed. I also know you can't speak English" Latios pointed out. "Oh... But why can't we go to humans? She was harmless" Latias asked. Latios sighed. "I've told you a million times. Humans are evil. There are no Pokémon like us in the world so they want us as a trophy. They will stop at nothing to kill us" Latios said. "How would you know?" Latias asked. Latios stood there looking for words. He had to lie. "I've seen it happen to a friend of mine. He was a legendary." Latios said. It wasn't really a lie. He did know someone who was killed by humans, his parents. "What species was he?" Latias asked. "A... Shaymin?" Latios lied. "Latias, stop going to the city. You can get killed. You can get us both killed. What if you were going home after being in the city and someone followed you and found out about Serene Island? We'd both get killed" Latios scolded. "I got bored here. Why can't we have Pokémon friends? I need someone to talk to..." Latias complained. "We can trust no one in this world we were born into... You have me to talk to" Latios said. "I meant someone fun to talk to... You say we were born, but how did we get put on Earth?" Latias asked. "How were other Pokémon brought onto Earth?" Latios asked. "They hatched...? The mother Pokémon and father Pokémon made them and after a few days a Pokémon hatches... But we don't have parents, Latios.. How did we come to be?" Latias wondered. Latios pondered. Now what do I say to her? "Latias, I think you're old enough now... We did, once, have parents.." Latios said. "What? Ho..Bu.. Where are they now?" Latias asked. "They died... 14 months ago. You were a baby so you don't remember. Our mother and father were a Latios and Latias too...Jet and Hera were their names" Latios explained. "I had a mom and dad...? What happened to them?" Latias asked. "One day, when I was looking after you I got a telepathic message from dad. He told me to take care of you and to stay away from humans. I perceive him, and mother, were killed by humans. That's why I don't want you near the city." Latios said. "Why did you never tell me?!" Latias exclaimed. "Latias, I didn't want to see you sad. I kept it from you this long but now....it's time you know the truth..." Latios answered. "So you lie to me?! That's no way to solve things!" Latias yelled. "Latias.. Calm down." Latios said. Latias was raged. She transformed into an Alakazam and used teleport. "Latias!" Latios screamed. Not again!

Chapter 3

Latias teleported into the city. She quickly transformed into a human and looked around to see if anyone saw her. Behind her was a man in his late 30's or early 40's. He was looking right at her. Uh-oh... What if he saw me? Latias wondered. "I saw that. Are you a Ditto?" the man asked, walking toward her. Latias just stared into his hazel eyes. "Ditto can't talk, huh? Transform into something that can use telepathy" the man said. Latias just stood there. "Look girl." the man said grabbing Latias's hair. "Transform now or I will destroy you." Latias didn't know what to do. The man got out a dark machine. It was a gun! "I mean it." the man threatened. Latias transformed into a Mew. "Mew?! You aren't a Ditto! No Ditto can transform into a legendary Pokémon without one or two mistakes! You are... a Mew or a Latias, the only Pokémon that come to mind that can transform. What are you?! Tell me now!" the man said. Latias knew that whatever form she was in, she cannot communicate with humans. She can't use telepathic powers like her brother. "Nothing huh? Well, I won't kill a Mew or a Latias. I'll catch ya." the man said pulling out a Master Ball. I know that device! It's used to catch Pokémon! A Poke Ball! And the purple ones are a sure catch! What now?! Latias thought. The man threw the Master Ball at Latias. The ball rocked three times. Then it stopped.

Chapter 4

The ball stood there, motionless. It didn't click yet, so Latias wasn't caught. "What's taking it so long? It's a Master Ball!" the man said impatiently. The ball shattered open and out came Latias, in her true form. "What the...?! You broke my Master Ball?! My only Master Ball?! There are few in existence, how am I supposed to steal another?! And what the heck?! You're a.. Latias?! But how in the world did you break through my Master Ball?!" the man yelled in disbelief. Latias wondered herself. Then she remembered the words her brother told her months ago: "Latias, I want you to be careful. But still, I'm not to worried about you being caught in a Poke ball. You cannot be caught by any human without a pure heart. But watch out for other machines that might catch you." This man didn't have a pure heart. That's why she wasn't caught, even with a Master Ball. "The only Latias I've known was Hera. But she was killed. Wait, she had a daughter. Athena!?" the man asked. Latias tilted her head at the unfamiliar name. "Latias!" Latias turned to see her brother charging for her. "Arthur!" the man yelled. "You...know my name..?" Latios growled. He landed next to his sister. By using telepathy he was able to communicate to both the man and Latias. "Latias, where have you been?! Come home now!" Latios yelled. "Arthur, I can't believe I'm finally seeing you! Arthur, and Athena!" the man said. "How do you know our names?" Latios snapped. "Our names? Latios, we don't have names..." Latias said. "Arthur, I was good friends with Hera and Jet. Your parents trusted me as well. We talked to each other through telepathy, like now. A very mean man tried to kill them one day. I protected them best I could but they were killed. I tried. They did tell me they had a daughter and son but I never saw you two" the man explained. "Latios, what is he talking about?" Latias asked. Latios turned first to the man, then to Latias. "Latias, we had parents, Hera and Jet. They named us Arthur and Athena... I didn't want to call you Athena because it reminded me of how much I miss Mom. That name meant a lot to her. She loved you, Athena. You meant the world to her." Latios explained. "I don't believe you, man" Latios said to the man. The man's face dropped. "Latios, ask me one question about your family. I will answer it" the man said. "My father and I, we both have a disability. What is it?" Latios asked. "You and Jet are both color-blind, Arthur" the man said, smiling. "Latios, is that right?" Latias asked. "It...is" Latios said. "See, my dear Arthur? I knew your parents. I knew them well." the man said. "Who are you?" Latios growled. "Aaron. I am Aaron." the man said. Now do you believe I know your parents?" Aaron asked. "Latios, I can feel him emotions. He is telling the truth when he says he knew our parents. But I feel differently when he says he was friends with them. Who is this man?" Latias asked. "I don't know, Latias... But I don't trust him a bit." Latios growled. Aaron, not knowing what Latias had said, knew she was asking who he was. "Arthur I've shown you proof. What more do you want?" Aaron said. "I will Never trust a human. They are mean spirited and cruel. They don't care what we Pokémon think. They keep us in balls that couldn't possibly be comfortable then use us to battle, not caring if we want to or not. Get away from here, human." Latios roared. "Arthur, I am different. I care about Pokémon. And I will show you. Just come with me. I'll take care of you." Aaron said, taking out a Luxury Ball. "Come, Arthur. I will treat you like monarchy. Of course there's room for Athena as well" Aaron said, taking out a Love Ball. "Latios, he seems nice. Let's go" Latias said, stepping closer to Aaron. "Your sister has the right idea. Come Arthur" Aaron said. "Latias get back here now. We have to go back home. This man won't treat us right, he tried to kill you. Come" Latios demanded. "That was before I knew, Arthur, that you were Jet's son. And you, Athena, his daughter" Aaron said. "Latias, let's go" Latios commanded. "At least Aaron doesn't keep secrets from me." Latias said. Before Latios could get out another word Aaron took out a giant net and roped Latias. Latios used Hyper Beam on Aaron. Aaron dodged and threw a net at Latios. He missed. "Let her go. Now!" Latios screamed. "You wouldn't come to me so I'll take you. You can set your sister free if you take her place. Will you?" Aaron asked. "Latios, no! It's a trick! I feel it in his soul! I'm sorry! Let me be taken!" Latias screamed. "Take me instead. Leave Athena alone. Never bother her again. If you do, so Mew help me I will kill all of human kind. Latios switched places with his sister. "No Latios!" Latias yelled. Aaron roped Latias as well. "We had a deal you jerk!" Latios yelled. "I've never kept a deal in my life. I don't tell the truth. You should've felt that, Athena. I was friends with your parents but I was faking it. After a few months I killed them. Now you'll meet them again. You will be killed as well." Aaron said, chuckling. Latios sent a Dragon Rage at Aaron. He missed. "Arthur, you are 21, aren't you? I'd expect you to be stronger than that." Aaron teased. "I'm 23. But that is none of your business! Now let us go!" Latios yelled. Latios started cursing at Aaron. Latias was surprised. Latios has never cursed in front of her. He was raged. "Latios, it's pointless. I'm sorry. Now we are going to die and it's all my fault. I'm so sorry." Latias started to cry. "Latias I would risk my life for you. You mean more than anything to me. I will always remember you. I don't care if I die, as long as I know I protected you" Latios said. "I'm glad I spent my last hours with you, Latios" Latias said. "We won't die. Not today." Latios said.

Chapter 5

Aaron took Latios and Latias to an isolated building, taking care not to be seen. He put them in cages. He then left the room. "Latios, I can transform and get out of this cave. I can get you too. Where's the key?" Latias asked. "I don't know.." Latios admitted. They looked around from inside their cages. "What are you looking for? Keys?" Aaron asked. Latios didn't answer. "They're right here. Don't think I forgot about Athena's power to transform. Hera tricked me with it plenty of times. Athena won't trick me" Aaron said. Latios used DragonBreath. Aaron hardly moved out of the way in time. "Arthur, stop attacking or you will pay!" Aaron warned. "Now, be good Pokémon and stay in your cages" Aaron said, leaving the room. "Latios..." Latias said. "I will kill that man if it's the last thing I do..." Latios said under his breath. "Revenge never fixes anything, Latios. Right now we have to get out of here" Latias pointed out. "Latias, get out of here. Teleport to Serene... Teleport home. I'll get out, Latias. But if I don't.. I love you. I'll never forget you. Now go" Latios commanded. "I won't leave you!" Latias said. "Go now, Latias." Latios commanded again. "No!" Latias refused. Latios started a Solarbeam at Latias. "Latios! What are you doing?!" Latias asked surprised, teleporting out of her cage. "Go home!" Latios yelled, sending the Solarbeam flying toward her. Latias quickly teleported away. "I'm sorry, Latias. I don't want to hurt you. But I'd rather you spend the rest of your life alone with me dead then the both of us dead. Forgive me.." Latios said to himself.

Chapter 6

Arthur? Where's your sister?" Aaron asked about 5 minutes after she left. Latios didn't answer. "The only reason I left you two here like that was because I knew for certain Athena would stay with you. I guess she doesn't love you. Now, it's time to make you mine." Aaron said, pulling out a mysterious looking Poke Ball. Latios's eyes widened as he looked at the ball. It was a gray-ish color. That's what Latios thought anyway. It was hard for him to tell between different Poke Balls since he's colorblind. He hoped that one wasn't powerful. "Never seen this kind of Poke Ball, huh Arthur? That is because, for 4 years I spent time making and perfecting it. I call it, an Eerie Ball. It is completely black, the color of pure darkness. If a Pokémon is caught by it, that Pokémon will turn pure evil. Their eyes will turn black and they will obey no one. They will wreck anything in their way. I've spent a lot of time working on it and there is only one way to heal an evil Pokémon. That is for me to know and you to find out. But you shouldn't care. You won't have a care in the world. Here goes. You're the first Pokémon I use it on." Aaron explained. Latios looked for a way to stop him. "If a dark Pokémon will listen to no one, why would you want one?" Latios asked. "Because my name will be known and feared by everyone. I will be known as "Aaron, the man who created the Eerie Ball." I will destroy the world. Then, when the world is in pieces, I will kill the dark Pokémon that did my dirty work and take over the world. Everyone shall bow down to me, Aaron, King of the World!!" Aaron explained. "You plan to kill the Pokémon that'll help you achieve your goals?" Latios asked. "Starting with you. If you fail I will go after your sister. I will find her. You can't live far from here." Aaron said. "You put one finger on my sister and you will wish you never messed with her." Latios growled. Latios roared louder than thunder, making Aaron cover his ears. "Silence! You fool! Shut up before I put a muzzle on you!" Aaron screamed. "He's hiding something. I know it" Latios thought. "That's it! This building is hidden. He's been working here for 4 years. That's 48 months, a long time. No one knows about it. If I make enough noise the people of the city might come. He says he has a muzzle though. He thinks he can put a muzzle on me?! He is mistaken." Latios thought out. Latios began to roar. Aaron got a muzzle from another room. He strapped it on Latios. Latios tried to burn it but it was made of steel. "Steel? I should've known... Now what?" Latios wondered. "Wait here, I need to do something." Aaron told Latios. Latios waited until Aaron left. Latios looked around his cramped cage. "If I push hard enough I could probably pop the top off.." Latios thought. Latios started banging the top of his cage. After about 10 minutes of banging Latios had a giant migraine. It didn't budge either. He wondered where Aaron was. He had been gone for a while. The Eerie Ball was there in the distance. If Latios didn't have a muzzle he could burn it. Latios was in pain and he was lonely. He fell asleep. When he woke up Aaron wasn't there. The Eerie Ball was missing. "Am I evil yet?" Latios wondered. He looked at his wing. It looked normal. "Aaron said my eyes would look different. Is there a mirror in here, somewhere? That monitor over there might reflect my image. Too bad I can't get to it... I'm tired of this!" Latios thought. "I'm so bored. I want to go home. Someone help me..." Latios mumbled to himself. "I never thought I'd hear you say that, Latios." Latios looked up. A human? Humans don't speak Pokémon... "Latias?" Latios asked through telepathy. "Are you okay?" Latias asked. "Latias... I told you to go home. Why are you here?" Latios asked. "I did go home. I didn't realize it before but.. I missed you. I'd rather die with you than be alone on Serene Island" Latias said. "Latias! No!" Latios said. He looked around. "What?" Latias asked. "There are probably cameras in here. You just said... the island... Latias...What if he can find a way to understand you? He's pretty smart." Latios said. Latias covered her mouth. "I'm so sorry!" Latias apologized. "Let's hope Aaron didn't hear. Could you get me outta here?" Latios asked. Latias searched for keys. "By the way, why do you have a muzzle?" Latias asked. Latios spoke to Latias so that only Latias could hear. "I made some noise and Aaron freaked. He doesn't want other humans to find this place. I made a lot of noise and he gave me a steel muzzle. I can't get it off." Latios explained. When Latias got tired of looking for keys she transformed into a Charizard and carefully burned the cage. Latios was finally free! "Also, Latias, watch out for that ball." Latios said pointing to the Eerie Ball. He explained about it. "Ok, now let's get outta-" "Stop right there! I knew you would come back! Now I've got you both!" Aaron interrupted.

Chapter 7

And don't you dare try to teleport, my scanners can locate you. I put a microscopic chip on your skin, Arthur. I was glad when you finally got to sleep, I had my chance. And now I'll be able to locate you." Aaron said. "What?! How dare you touch me?! And you put a chip on me?! How do I take it off?!" Latios demanded. "Wouldn't you like to know, Arthur?" Aaron asked. "Latios, what now?" Latias asked. Latios didn't answer. "I'll find a way..." Latios said. "Well, now that I have you both... Let's get this party started. Eerie Ball, go!" Aaron said, throwing Eerie Balls at Latios and Latias. Latias transformed into an Alakazam in time and teleported. She came back a few seconds later to make sure her brother dodged. Latios was deep in thought when the Eerie Ball came towards him. He went inside the tiny ball. "Latios! Get outta there!" Latias worried. Latios couldn't be caught by anyone without a pure heart either but this was like no other Pokéball. Will he be caught? The ball rocked for a while when it stopped. The ball clicked shut. Latios...was caught..

Chapter 8

Latios! No! How dare you catch my brother?! If I ever get the chance I will take you off this Earth!" Latias screamed, tears rolling down her skin. "Athena, I can't understand you but I do know what you are saying. Arthur is mine. He will destroy the world for me and then he will be killed. There is nothing you can or will do." Aaron said grabbing the ball. Latias sent a Flamethrower at Aaron's hand reaching for the ball. "Athena, why stop me? You can't do anything with it. As soon as you let Arthur go he will destroy everything. He won't remember you. He will try to kill you. Let me grab my ball." Aaron said. Latias transformed into a Mew. She grabbed the Eerie Ball with her tail and teleported away, to Serene Island. "16 months of bonding...lost" Latias mumbled to herself. "Latios, this is much like the situation you had to face, 14 months ago. Mom and Dad died, leaving you to take care of a little 2-month-old. You probably didn't know what to do. You were 9 months old. You were and orphan and you had a sister to take care of. Now, this same sister must take care of you. I don't know what to do, Latios. If I let you out you won't remember me and you will destroy the world. If I leave you in the ball I will never see you again. Why couldn't Aaron catch me? You would work better under pressure. Tell me, what do I do?" Latias asked. She waited for a couple minutes, thinking hard of what to do now. "Aaron is going to do this to other Pokémon too. He will catch them, use them, then kill them. I must spare their lives. I know how but I can get killed. Still, I must save those Pokémon. Here goes..."Latias thought. Latias transformed into a human. She looked like a blonde-haired 15-year-old girl. She had her brother in her left hand. She walked into the city. It was giant. She had never been in the city for a purpose before. She usually came to see how humans act. She wandered around for a while. A young man asked her if she was lost but she just ignored him. She hated to ignore people but she couldn't say anything back. She finally found what she was looking for, the police station. She walked in and touched someone's arm. They turned around and Latias knew by the badge on her uniform she was a police officer. "Police Officer Jenny, how may I help you?" the officer asked. Latias gestured for the officer to follow her. "Who are you?" the officer asked. Latias pointed to her mouth and shook her head. "You can't speak? Do you know sign language?" Jenny asked. Latias shook her head. She started out of the Police Department, hoping Jenny would follow. The officer did follow her. Latias lead the officer to Aaron's hideout. She pointed to it. "The old shoe factory? It's been vacant for over 5 years. What about it?" Jenny asked. Latias walked into the factory. "Don't go in there! Ghost Pokémon are rumored to live there. They steal children and take them to the underworld!" Jenny warned. "It's okay, I'm not a child. I'll be fine." Latias thought. She continued in the factory. Aaron walked up to her while she was inside. "Who are you?!" Aaron said, surprised. Officer Jenny followed Latias to see Aaron in an abandoned factory. "Why are you here?" Jenny asked Aaron. "Officer? I…Uh... I was just spending time with my daughter and her Pokémon. She is playing Hide n' Seek and I fear she might've gone in here. "Aaron said. Latias turned to Jenny and shook her head. "Girl, can you write? Can you write what you want to say?" Jenny asked Latias. Again, Latias shook her head. "That! In your hand! The Eerie Ball! Athena?!" Aaron asked. Latias gulped. "You know this girl?" Jenny asked. "This is no girl! This is a Pokémon! A Latias!" Aaron exclaimed. "What?!" Jenny asked. Latias ran into the room where Aaron kept her brother and her. Jenny followed her. "What is this place?" Jenny asked. "This place isn't vacant. It's run by you, isn't it? Jenny asked turning to Aaron. "What?! Me?!" Aaron pretended to be surprised. "I see there's no denying it. You don't look fooled. I've been working here. You won't stop me though. And neither will Athena!" Aaron yelled. He grabbed his gun. Athena, I shall finish you!" Aaron said, taking aim at Latias. Latias transformed into a Palkia, surprising everyone in the room. She used Spacial Rend and injured Aaron. Aaron sent a bullet flying toward Latias. Latias used her little wings she had as a Palkia and flew up, barely dodging the bullet. Aaron shot another when Jenny cuffed him. This one hit Latias. She transformed back into a Latias. Any time Latias is injured severely or is laughing she can't hold a transformation. Latias was shot in the wing. She was in agonizing pain. Now, she had no brother to run to. At least she spare the lives of the other Pokémon Aaron would've killed. Jenny took Aaron to the police station and rushed back with backup to help Latias. Latias was unconscious.

Chapter 9

Athena? Are you awake?" a voice called. "Where...Where am I?" Latias wondered. "Athena?" the voice called again. Latias woke up to find she was lying on a hospital bed too small for her. Her wing was in pain. "Athena! You're awake!" Latias turned to see Jenny talking to her. "How did you know about that man in that factory?" Jenny asked. "Does she expect me to reply?" Latias wondered. "Can you use telepathy?" Jenny asked. Latias shook her head. "That's okay, Go, Kiara!" Jenny said throwing a Pokéball. An Alakazam came out. "Kiara knows telepathy; she can translate what you say into words I can understand. Why were you in the factory?" Jenny asked. "Latios told me not to go near humans. Am I allowed to talk to them? I hope I'm choosing the right choice..." Latias wondered. "My brother, Latios, was protecting me from Aaron, the man you saw, when he got captured. Aaron caught him with a ball of his creation, which he called an Eerie Ball. It captures Pokémon and turns them evil. They get amnesia and destroy everything in sight. I took my brother away but I knew Aaron was going to catch other Pokémon with his ball. I came to you as a human and lead you to him, hoping you could arrest him. I succeeded, but my brother...I won't be able to see him again. Latios... Latios!" Latias explained. Latias looked around frantically. She transformed into a Linoone and jet out of the hospital, still in pain. Linnone don't have wings so instead her side hurt. She went to the now deserted factory and looked for the little black ball that held her brother. Behind her she heard Jenny and her Alakazam running after her. "Athena, you sure are brave, but what are you looking for?" Jenny asked. "My brother. The little ball that holds my brother. I had him in my hand. Where is he?" Latias panicked. "The little black... Uh-oh... Athena, maybe Aaron has it?" Jenny asked. In the distance they heard a giant roar. They turned around to see a blue and white dragon destroying everything in sight. "Latios! No!!!" Latias screamed.

Chapter 10

Athena, stop! Go back to the hospital! You've been shot you are in no condition to handle him!" Jenny demanded. "No human will ever tell me what to do. "Latias said. Latias flew after Latios. She forgot how much her wing hurt until now. "Latios!" Latias called. Latios turned to her. He began charging a powerful Hyper Beam for her. "Latios, it's your little sister!" Latias yelled. "Latios don't you remember? It's Latias. Athena..."Latias asked. When Latios shot his Hyper Beam and missed Latias saw her brother's eyes. They were darker that the night sky, the pupils took up more than three quarters of his eyes. "I...I'm too late... Latios, I just wanted you to know I always loved you and even if you kill me today that won't change. Latios, what do I do now? If I leave you alone the world will be destroyed. If I kill you the world will be saved. What do I do?" Latias wondered. "Athena! Stop running away!" Jenny called. Latias growled at Jenny. Latios shot a Dragon Breath towards Jenny. Kiara teleported them away just in time. "Latios, Jenny did nothing. Please stop destroying everything." Latias pleaded. "How do we get him to stop?" Jenny asked once she came back. "Aaron said there is only one cure." Latias said. "What is it?" Jenny asked. "I don't know." Latias admitted. "We could ask him" Jenny suggested. "Good luck with that" Latias said. "Latios, can you understand me?" Latias asked. Latios tried another move, this one Dragon Rage. Latias tried to dodge but her wing gave way and she was hit. "Latios... Please stop. I know you can if you try hard enough. Stop..." Latias pleaded. Latios tried several more attacks, all hitting the helpless Latias. "Athena, get out of the way!" Jenny warned. Latios was readying a Hyper Beam. "Latios I can't take any more. Please, if that hits I will die. Stop..." Latias pleaded once more. Latios shot the Hyper Beam at his sister. Latias passed out. Latios was ready to destroy the city when he took another glance at the now defenseless Latias. He stared at her for a moment. "What have I done?" Latios asked himself. "Latias, are you okay?! Speak to me Latias! Say something!" Latios panicked. "My baby sister, I'm so sorry. Father told me to protect you and I've killed you. Latias please forgive me." Latios asked. Latios began to cry in Latias's chest. "Takes something like that to make a man cry, especially you. A second ago you had not a care in the world. Now, you are prepared to cry a lake." Jenny said. "Leave, human." Latios demanded, his voice quaking. "I can help you." Jenny said. "Leave now!" Latios demanded again, sending a Dragon Breath towards Jenny, purposely missing. "Now, that's how you killed your best friend." Jenny warned. Latios look at Jenny. "You…Your eyes. They are brown. A second ago they were black. It looks like the spell has been broken." Jenny said. "I'll have to admit, Aaron, you are smart. You are possibly the worst man I ever met. Of course the only cure for a darkened Pokémon is love. Why would anyone show a dark Pokémon love? You figured that, and well it's true. The average Pokémon will hate a dark one. Except Latias. Latias I am so sorry." Latios said. "That girl was shot for you, she risked her life for you, and what do you do? Kill her. You killed her. How do you feel about yourself, Arthur?" Latios turned to see Aaron. "How did you get out of jail?!" Jenny asked. "Very smart of you to make the cure love. But instead of taking my life, I took my sister's.." Latios said. "Love? The only cure isn't love. What are you talking about? And why are you not evil?!" Aaron asked surprised. "Latias showed me love and broke the spell. That was the cure..." Latios said. "Arthur, the only cure is a lily. A simple lily. What do you mean?" Aaron asked.

Chapter 11

Latios and Latias went back to normal. Latias never dared to step foot in the city again. Around five days after Latias had been brought back to life Latios asked her something. "Latias, I'm sorry for never asking you, but which do you want to be called, Latias or Athena?" Latios asked. "I thought you said you didn't want to call me Athena because it reminded you of our mom." Latias said. "It isn't up to me. Legendary Pokemon usually name themselves since they don't have parents. We did have parents who named us and we don't even use the names they gave us. I also realized that I want to be reminded of your mother. She was a wonderful Pokémon." Latios said. "Well then, Arthur, I guess we can use our birth names." Latias said with a smile. "Arthur, I'm hungry. Let's go find some food." Athena said. "Alright. I'll go. You can stay here." Arthur said. Arthur left to find some food. He came back about 10 minutes later. "Here, I got some berries for you. I know how much you love them." Arthur said with a smile. Athena looked at the berries in Arthur's hands. "Arthur.. Those berries are black..." Athena said. "They…are? They look like Oran berries to me. Sorry..." Arthur said. The black berries on Serene Island are very poisonous, deadly even. "It must really stink being color blind, huh?" Athena asked. "It's not that bad most of the time. But if you weren't here right now, and I ate these, I could've died just because these berries appear blue." Arthur explained. "Blue? I thought black looked a grayish color to you." Athena said. "What may seem like an unnoticeable color change to you could appear like a complete change to me. This black is probably lighter or darker than the black that looks grey." Arthur explained. "What color am I, Arthur?" Athena asked. "I know that you are red and white with brown eyes. But in my eyes you look a purple color with brownish tints and yellow-gold eyes." Arthur said. "Really? That's weird." Athena said. "I'd never imagine you'd live right next to a city." a voice said. Athena and Arthur turned to see a slim man with dark hair. "Aaron?! How do you keep escaping jail?!" Arthur asked surprised. "Let's just say Houdini's a distant cousin of mine." Aaron said. "That's highly unlikely. Especially since he died almost 100 hundred years ago..." Arthur mumbled. "Humans live longer than you Pokémon, remember?" Aaron said rolling his eyes. Arthur growled. "How did you find us?" Arthur asked. "Have you forgotten already? Jet's memory was incredible. Apparently his son doesn't share that. Arthur, I chipped you. I escaped jail, went to my lab, found out where you left to, and flew over here." Aaron said. "Although I wasn't expecting to see Athena. Didn't you die?" he asked her. Athena growled. "What do you want, Aaron?" Arthur asked. "Isn't it obvious? I want to catch you in my Eerie Balls. You two are giant so you can take over the world more easily than any other common Pokémon." Aaron said. "Haven't you already seen the Eerie Balls don't work on us? And besides, you already told us the cure." Arthur pointed out. "If I catch you both who will know the cure and bring it to you?" Aaron asked. "Good point..." Arthur said under his breath. "Arthur, what are we gonna do now?" Athena asked. "We have no choice but to run. Athena, when I give us the signal, teleport us away." Arthur said without telepathy. "But, I need to transform before I can teleport. That'll take time. And where to?" Athena asked. "I'll only find you again if you go away. Without modern technology or fingers you won't be able to get that chip out." Aaron said. He took out two Eerie Balls. "Now!" Arthur said to Athena. Athena transformed into a Gardevoir and teleported Arthur and herself away. They teleported to a desert. Athena transformed into a human girl with long brown hair. She looked like she was about 12 years old. Arthur, if anyone asks, I caught you." Athena said. "You cannot speak." Arthur said. "Use telepathy. I'll move my lips." Athena said. "Okay.. What is your name?" Arthur asked. "As in fake name? In case someone asks? Uh.. Nina?" Athena said. "Hey! Nice Pokémon!" came a voice. Athena turned around. There was a young boy, about 12 years old, standing in the desert. "Here goes..." Athena said.

Chapter 4

What are you doing in this desert all alone?" the boy asked. "None of your business" Athena told Arthur to say telepathically. "Weird, I say you speaking and I know what you said but it doesn't feel like I heard anything..." the boy said. "I'm Jacob, by the way." the boy said. "I'm Nina; it's a pleasure to meet you, Jacob." Athena said. "Nina? I pretty name for a pretty girl." Jacob smiled. "Hey, can I battle your Latios? He's gotta be strong." Jacob asked. Athena looked at Arthur. "Athena, we have no time. Aaron will be here very shortly. We need to hide. And get this chip out." Arthur said. "I'm sorry, no time. Do you happen to know anyone with a lot of technology?" Athena asked. "I do.. Why?" Jacob asked. "Someone chipped my Latios and they're trying to steal him away." Athena said. "Athena, there! Look there in the sky!" Arthur warned. In the sky was Aaron riding a Mantine towards the desert looking at a small device. "Jacob, we need to hide, now! Where can we hide?" Athena asked. Jacob looked confused but he pulled out a small ball. It was a Pokéball. "Go, Onix!" Jacob called. Out came the giant steel snake. "Go up against that wall." Jacob told Athena and Arthur. They did as they were told. "Onix, Rock Tomb!" Jacob said. The Onix summoned rocks and covered Athena and Arthur from view. Aaron landed in the desert and called Mantine back into his ball. He saw Jacob and came walking over. "Yo, kid. Have you seen a Latios or Latias around?" Aaron asked. Jacob hesitated. "No sir, aren't they two of the rarest Pokémon around?" Jacob asked. "They are in this area and someone stole them. They were part of a science experiment when a… young girl took them and ran. My radar tells me Latios is near here. Where Latios is, Latias can't be far." Aaron explained. "Hope you find them." Jacob said. He waited for Aaron to be out of view. "You stole a Latios?" he asked Athena. She and Arthur moved the rocks and wiped themselves off. "No, not at all!" Athena said. "Who's that man then?" Jacob asked. "I caught Latios fair and square, that man is trying to steal him!" Athena said. "Prove it." Jacob said. "Huh?" Athena asked. "Prove it. Make Latios go back in his Pokéball." Jacob said. Athena looked at Arthur. "I...I can't do that.." Athena admitted. "You thief!" Jacob said. "No, I'm not!" Athena said. "You can't prove it." Jacob said.

Chapter 13

Ok, Jacob, I stole Latios from the lab because the scientists were hurting him. I had to do something so I stole him. I'm sorry." Athena said. "How can I believe you?" Jacob asked. "Ask Latios..." Athena said. "Pokémon can't speak, remember?" Jacob said sarcastically. "Latios can. He can use telepathy." Athena said. Jacob turned to Latios. "Is that true?" Jacob asked. Arthur gave his sister a look then finally replied, "Yes." Jacob was stunned. "He's coming back" Arthur said to Athena. "I have to hide. Please, you said you have technology? Can you unchip my Latios?" Athena asked. "But he is not yours and he must go back to the lab." Jacob said. "I don't have time for this. Please, will you help me or not?" Athena asked impatiently. "C'mon." Jacob said gesturing for her to follow. Athena and Arthur followed Jacob to a lab. It was pretty big but looked haunted. "Come." Jacob said. They walked into the lab. Inside was very dark and gloomy. No one was here. "Lay" Jacob said to Arthur. He pointed to a table. It was just large enough for him. Jacob put monitors over Arthur. "Don't you think a real scientist should do this?" Athena asked. "I am a real scientist." Jacob said. "You are a kid! You can't possibly know how to do this!" Athena said. "Look. My dad was a scientist. I learned from him." Jacob said. "Is your dad here?" Athena asked. "Not for 4 years. He died." Jacob said. "I'm sorry. Is your mom here?" Athena asked. "Died a month after I came into the world." Jacob said. "You're an orphan?" Athena asked. "Yeah. For a while now. I live here in this lab alone." Jacob said. "I'm an orphan too. My parents died when I was 2." Athena said. "2? That's rough." Jacob said. "Ok, buddy. This might sting a little." Jacob said to Arthur. He stood there for a while. After about ten minutes of silence he was done. "No more chip." Jacob said. He held a small device in his hand. "Please destroy that chip. Otherwise they'll come for it." Athena said. Jacob destroyed the tiny piece. "I cannot thank you enough." Athena said. "You can thank me with a battle." Jacob said. Athena turned to Arthur. "I guess I can." Arthur smiled. "Alright. Let's go." Athena said. "Follow me." Jacob said. He went down a flight of stairs. Downstairs there was a battlefield. "There's a battlefield in your house? Athena asked. "I like to train my Pokémon." Jacob said. "Although I can never train with anyone." Jacob continued. "Go Latios!" Athena called. Arthur went up to his half of the field. "Go, Onix!" Jacob said. An Onix came out of a ball and onto the battlefield. "Latios, DragonBreath!" Athena said. Arthur used DragonBreath missing. Both fought their hardest. Athena and Arthur finally won. "That was great! Thanks!" Jacob said. "It was fun. Right, Latios?" Athena said. "Now we need to find a new home, Athena. We can't go back to Serene Island." Arthur said. "I know" Athena replied.

Chapter 14

Do you know of a place Latios and I can live?" Athena asked Jacob. "No, where have you been living the past decade? That is, if you are 12." Jacob asked. "My home… those scientists know where I live. I can't go back." Athena said. "You can live here 'til you find somewhere else." Jacob said. "Really?! That'd be so great but we wouldn't want to take up so much space." Athena said. "I'm usually lonely, I'd love for you to stay here" Jacob said. "Thank you so much, Ja-" "Under one condition." Jacob interrupted Athena. "If those scientists come here looking for Latios and it looks like there's no hope you must give Latios back to them. If it doesn't get too serious I have never seen you before. Got it?" Jacob said. "Okay, got it." Athena said. "Of course I'd never give Arthur to a human." Athena said under her breath. "How did you survive your life?" Jacob asked Athena. "You said your parents died when you were two. How did you survive?" Jacob asked. "My brother took care of me..."Athena said. "Brother? Why don't you live with him then? If he's older he must have his own house. I mean, if he took care of you when you were two he must be at least 10 years older than you. That's in his twenties, he should have a house." Jacob said. "He's actually 7 months older...years older than me. He...I don't know where he is right now..."Athena lied. "Can't we tell him the truth?" Athena asked Arthur in a whisper. "Let's wait a little longer.." Arthur said. "Wait, he was 9 when he was left with a two-year-old to take care of?!" Jacob said. "Yep" Athena said. "I was 9 three years ago and I don't think I could ever take care of someone else. I can barely take care of myself!" Jacob said. "Why do you live by yourself?" Athena asked. "I don't want to be taken away to a new home with a new family." Jacob said. "Would you want to be adopted?" Jacob asked. "I guess not..." Athena said. "We must go look, Athena. For a home." Arthur reminded. "Alright come on..." Athena said. "Latios and I are going to look for a new home." Athena said. "Can I come?" Jacob asked. "I guess so..." Athena said. Athena climbed on Arthur. Jacob followed. They flew around looking for land no one had known about. Athena also looked out for Aaron or anyone who might be suspicious. After a couple hours of searching they finally went back to the lab. "I'm so tired..." Jacob said. "Me too" Athena said. "Your Latios has the ability to speak to humans but he isn't very talkative. Well anyway, you can sleep in my dad's old room. It's right up here. Latios, I can lay blankets and pillows for you." Jacob said. "Latios'll be fine. Right, bud?" Athena said. "Okay, goodnight." Jacob said. Athena laid down on the comfy bed. It was pretty big. The room was very nice. It had pictures on the walls of a man with a lady. Some had a man with his son. It was Jacob's family. "Athena, you cannot keep a transformation while sleeping." Arthur pointed out. "I forgot about that! What if he comes in?" Athena asked. "I don't know..." Arthur admitted. "Hopefully he won't." Athena said.

Chapter 15

Athena and Arthur awoke at around 7 A.M. Athena was back to a Latias. She quickly transformed into the human she was yesterday. They walked downstairs. "Good morning Nina. Good morning Latios." came a voice from the next room. "Morning, Jacob." Athena said walking into the kitchen Jacob was in. "Did you sleep well?" he asked. "Yes, thanks. Did you?" Athena asked. "Yes I did." Jacob said with a smile. "Where did you go last night?" Jacob asked. "What do you mean?" Athena asked. "I checked on you at around 11:30 and you weren't there. Latios was, along with a Pokémon that looked just like him, only in red. Latias, I think. But now the Latias is gone and you are back. Where did you go?" Jacob asked. "Can we tell him now, Arthur?" Athena asked. "Please?" "I...fine..." Arthur hesitated. "Jacob, I never left the room. It may be easier to show you than to explain." Athena said. "What? What do you mean?" Jacob asked. Athena transformed into a Latias. Jacob's eyes widened. "You...you're a...Latias! You're a Pokémon!" Jacob said. "Indeed. I was the Pokémon you saw last night. And Latios, Arthur, is my brother." Athena said. "Arthur? Wait, but that means you didn't steal him!" Jacob said. "No, I didn't. But they are trying to steal him. That's why I got you to take that chip out and destroy it. Thanks again." Athena said. "So you know telepathy too?" Jacob asked. "No.. The only reason Latios has been so quiet is because he's been talking for me. I tell him what to say and he translates it." Athena said. "That's amazing. I'd love to run tests on you... You are one of the rarest Pokémon in the world." Jacob said. "Tests? Like what?" Athena asked. "It'll be like a physical, find your height, weight, and other stuff. Can I?" Jacob asked. "No." Arthur said. "What? Why not?" Jacob asked. "I will not let any human put their machines and such to me or my sister. The less they know the better." Arthur said. "I'm sorry, Lati…Arthur. I didn't mean it like that; I just want to know more about you guys." Jacob said. "It's amazing that you can transform, Nina. Can Arthur?" Jacob asked. "My real name is Athena. And no, he cannot transform." Athena said. "Where have you two been living? And, are you really 12, Athena?" Jacob asked. "We've been living on a peninsula right next to the city all our lives. Then the man you saw in the desert, Aaron, found us. And no, I am 16 months old. Arthur is 23 months. We need a new home now." Athena explained. "16 months?! You said your parents died when you were two but you aren't even one and a half!" Jacob said. "They died when I was two months. Pokémon go by months in age." Athena said. "Your brother, Arthur, took care of you before he was one. Poor guy..." Jacob said, extending a hand towards Arthur. Arthur growled at his hand and Jacob quickly retreated it. "Arthur..." Athena said. "He is still a human." Arthur said. "You're welcome to live here as long as you like. I'd love it. Since you're here, wanna battle? You and Arthur against two of my Pokémon?" Jacob asked. "I'm up for a battle." Arthur said. "Okay." Jacob said going to the downstairs battlefield. He threw two Pokéball into the air. Out came an Onix and a Totodile. They battled carefully and had a lot of fun. Athena and Arthur won the battle. "You two are so strong." Jacob said. "You hungry? I made toast. Sorry I can't cook, I am 12." Jacob said. They enjoy the toast. "How do you have Pokémon? I thought you humans need a Pokémon License. If you want no one to find you, how do you have a license?" Arthur asked. "I don't... I have Pokémon illegally. What am I supposed to do? I can't get a license. They'll put me in an orphanage." Jacob said. "I can be your mom." Athena said transforming into a 40-year-old woman. "Think it'll work?" Jacob asked. "Maybe. We'll have to try." Athena said.

Chapter 16

You can only speak with the help of your brother. We cannot bring your 130 pound brother. How will you speak?" Jacob asked. "Tell them I had my vocal chords operated on." Athena said. "They might want you to sign your name. Can you write?" Jacob asked. Athena tilted her head. "No" she answered. "Maybe we can fake a broken arm?" Jacob said. Athena transformed into the same woman with a sling. "You can do that? That's so cool." Jacob smiled looking at her sling. "Well, are we ready?" Jacob asked. Athena shook her head. "See you later, Arthur." Athena said waving. Arthur waved back. "Hello and welcome. Are you here to get your license?" a woman asked when they got there. "Yes ma'am." Jacob said. "Okay, is this your mother?" she asked looking at Athena. "Yes ma'am" Jacob said. "Such manners. How old are you?" she asked. "I'm 12." Jacob replied. "Can I see ID or a birth certificate?" she asked. Jacob showed her his birth certificate. "Okay, Jacob, ready to see if you're ready for your first Pokémon?" the woman asked. "Yes ma'am!" Jacob said. She showed him into a room and gave him a rental Pokémon. "Let's see how well you work with other Pokémon." the woman said. Jacob played with the rough little Pokémon. He was careful but friendly. Meanwhile Athena just stood in the waiting room. Jacob came out after about 10 minutes. "He was wonderful. I hope you have a great time with Pokémon. Good luck as a trainer." the woman said. "Thank you ma'am." Jacob said. "Here's your license. You earned it." she said. "I just need your mom to sign this paper here." Athena looked at Jacob. "My mom's right-handed and as you can see her right hand is broken. She can't sign a thing." Jacob said. "Okay... Well I just need her approval." she said. Athena nodded. "She uh, can't speak. She just had surgery" Jacob said. "Okay...Well have a nice day." the woman said. "You too." Jacob said. They scurried back home. "Wow... I got my license... I'm just sad my dad wasn't here to see it." Jacob said. He hung his license in his living room. "I see it worked. Nice job you two." Arthur said smiling. "Hey, I'd love to go on a ride with you two again. May I?" Jacob asked. "Sure, let's go." Arthur said. Jacob climbed on Athena and they took to the skies. They were really enjoying themselves when Arthur said something that turned it all around: "Athena, is that Aaron?

Chapter 17

Athena looked over to find Aaron staring right at her. "Down!" Arthur commanded. Athena and Arthur swooped down. "Whoa! What's was that for?" Jacob said. "Shh!" Arthur warned him. Jacob looked around bewildered. "He saw us. I know he saw us." Athena said. "What was that for?" Jacob asked in a whisper. "Aaron, the man out to kill us, is right over there." Arthur said. "Did he see you?" Jacob asked. "Yes, we believe so." Arthur said. Athena transformed into a Buterfree and flew towards Aaron. She kept some 3 meters away. She stared at him. He didn't notice her at all. It didn't appear as if he saw them. He looked right at them! "What's that in his hand?" Athena said to herself. As Athena fixed her view she realized there was a dark ball in his hand, an Eerie Ball! "So he did see us?" Athena asked herself. As she looked closer she noticed that there was a big Pokémon in front of Aaron, a Tyranitar. "He's not going to capture that thing, is he?!" Athena asked herself. "Arthur, he's going to capture a Tyranitar with an Eerie Ball! We can't let that happen! He'll kill the Tyranitar!" Athena said. "That's horrible, but what can we do?" Arthur asked. "I could steal the balls. As a Pidgey I could take them with my claws." Athena said. She transformed into a Pidgey. "What if he captures you instead?" Arthur said. "That's a chance I'll have to take." Athena said. She flew towards Aaron. "Athena, no!" Arthur yelled. "What happened?" Jacob asked. "What is she doing?!" "She's trying to save a Tyranitar..."Arthur explained. Athena swooped down taking the Eerie Ball in her claws. Aaron pulled out another dark ball and threw it at Athena. Athena flew in zigzag patterns so he could miss. She grabbed that ball in her free claw and flew away at all speed. She looked behind to find Aaron was following her on a Mantine. "Uh-oh..."Athena said to herself. She looked around for something to stop Aaron but found nothing. "Tyranitar..." Athena pondered. "Tyranitar! Please, do something! Help!" Athena yelled. The Tyranitar pretended not to hear and ran away. "Jerk..." Athena said to herself. She transformed into a Rayquaza, the Eerie balls in her hands. She used Flamethrower. Aaron commanded his Mantine to use Hydro Pump. It stopped the flamethrower and soaked Athena. The water came crashing to the ground. A passerby noticed what was going on in the air and he shouted: "Hey, it's Rayquaza!" That caught the attention of Arthur and Jacob, as well as everyone else near the area. "Athena, never transform into a legendary when people are near..." Arthur said. "That guy is fighting a major legend!" the boy shouted. Aaron looked down and noticed Officer Jenny was watching. He flew away at full speed. Being alone in the sky, people tried to catch Athena. A rainbow of Pokéball, Great Balls, Ultra Balls, and more came towards her. Athena speedily flew away. When the crowd was far behind she transformed into a Buterfree. She flew back to Jacob and Arthur. "Here." Athena said handing them the Eerie Balls. "Good job Athena!" Arthur said. "Could you destroy these?" Athena asked Jacob. Jacob tilted his head. Then Athena remembered he couldn't understand her. Arthur translated her words. "Could I do research on them first? They look really cool and thought out. When Athena nodded they went back to the lab. "Aaron is still out there, somewhere. Knowing that we are trying to stop him, he'll be looking for us." Arthur said.

Chapter 18

Athena and Arthur looked for a home every other afternoon. Jacob loved having them around. Athena loved being with Jacob and, although he'd never admit it, Arthur liked him too. A month after meeting him in that desert, Athena and Jacob went flying without Arthur. Arthur knew they enjoyed each other's company so he let them go. He had never imagined he'd leave his sister with a human alone but he trusted Jacob. Arthur got very hungry after a while and he knew it'd be very rude to rummage in someone else's fridge, so he went outside to look for berries. It was hard to avoid all the humans but he finally found an Oran berry bush. They looked delicious. He ate a great deal of berries. He still wasn't full. Being very large he needed a lot of food. He could get around with that much though. About ten minutes later Arthur felt severe stomach pains. He was near faint when he thought of something: "Oran Berries to me are actually Black Berries. What if I just ate Black Berries?" Going back to the bush he looked at the berry bush he had eaten. There weren't many berries left on it but the ones that were looked like regular Oran Berries. He heard someone behind him. He turned to see a Mantine. "Excuse me, sir, but what color are these berries?" Arthur asked the Mantine pointing to the bush. The Mantine laughed. "Can't tell your colors? Those berries are black." the Mantine chuckled. "Black? Are you sure?" Arthur asked. "Blacker than ever. Why?" Mantine asked. "Black berries are poisonous. I just digested two dozen of them. Can you get help? Please?" Arthur asked. "Poisonous you say? Master will be overjoyed." Mantine said. "Master? Who's Master and why would he be happy?" Arthur asked confused. "Master's had his eyes on you for a long time. Now that you could die he has a better chance of getting Athena." Mantine said. "Master isn't Aaron, is he?! He will not touch my sister!" Arthur said. "Oh but he will. Where is she?" Mantine asked. "Like I would ever tell..." Arthur passed out. Mantine left and arrived a few minutes later with Aaron. "Good job, Mantine. Where is the other?" Aaron asked. Mantine shrugged. "Of course you wouldn't know. At least you found him. And dead too. That's perfect. Almost too good to be true. Hmmm..." Aaron said. He put his ear to Arthur chest. "Breathing. But hardly." Aaron said. "If he's here Athena can't be far. If I can lure her, that'd be great." Aaron said. He slowly brought Arthur back to his new hide-out, Serene Island. "If you're going to be strong enough to take over the world you need to rest. Sleep here. We'll see how you are tomorrow." Aaron said.

Chapter 19

Meanwhile... Athena and Jacob went back to the lab after a few hours of flying around. Athena was the first to notice Arthur missing. "Where's Arthur?" Jacob asked Athena, hoping she would know. Athena shrugged. "Think he went looking for us?" Jacob asked. Athena knew that if Arthur told her she could go alone with Jacob he would not come looking for them. Athena shook her head. "Where is he then?" Jacob asked. They search every room in the mansion/lab. He was nowhere to be found. Back at Serene Island Arthur woke up. "Where am I?" Arthur asked himself aloud. "Oh, I'm home. But, what happened?" Arthur asked. "You don't remember?" Mantine asked. "Who are you?" Arthur asked Mantine. "What? I'm-" "Nice to see you're awake, Arthur. Feeling better?" Aaron said interrupting. Arthur cocked his head to the right. "Not gonna say something rude? Not gonna shoot a DragonBreath?" Arthur asked. "Why is he talking to me?" Arthur asked. "Answer him. Stop being rude." Mantine said. "Uh, do I know you?" Arthur asked Aaron. He didn't use telepathy so Aaron didn't understand. "Use telepathy, genius." Mantine said. "Do I know you?" Arthur said with telepathy. "Are you kidding me?" Aaron asked. Arthur looked at him blankly. "Wait, Mantine. Where you took me, to get Arthur, there were bushes. Those were black berry bushes, weren't they?! Black berries, if digested can cause stomach pains, amnesia, or death. Heh, Arthur, do you know who Athena is?" Aaron asked. Arthur thought for a minute, then replied "Should I?" "Arthur, she's your only sister." Aaron said. "I don't have a sister and I haven't a clue who you are." Arthur said. "And if you'll excuse me, I need to find my mother and father." Arthur continued. Arthur began to walk away slowly when Aaron stopped him. "Arthur, your parents are dead. You no longer live here. It seems you have amnesia." Aaron said. "Mother told me not to speak with humans. I am disobeying her enough as it is. Good day." Arthur said. "But Arthur, your mother died a year ago. Over a year ago." Aaron said. "If my mother is dead how have I survived? Father hasn't taught me many survival skills yet." Arthur said. "Maybe he did when you were nine. That's when he died. Along with your mother. Uh, I took care of you for a while. That's how we became best friends." Aaron lied. He was an excellent liar, he showed no sign of fibbing. "How can I know you speak the truth?" Arthur asked. "Your mother was Henna, your father was Jet. You are color-blind." Aaron said. "Okay... Then I'll choose to believe you." Arthur said smiling. "How did I get amnesia?" Arthur asked. "You ate black berries; they cause amnesia and sometimes death. You're pretty lucky." Aaron said. "Before you got amnesia, you were helping me with a little project." Aaron said. "I don't believe Pokémon should be kept in Pokéball. I believe they should live alongside humans. But everyone else thinks otherwise. So I was thinking we could brainwash them all and make them think they always lived that way. To do that, we will have to destroy this world." Aaron explained. "Destroy? How will that brainwash them?" Arthur asked. I have a machine. I made it myself. It's an incredible work of art that can bring people and Pokémon back to life and make them forget everything having to do with owning Pokémon in Pokéball. Of course, they must be dead first. so let's put it into act-" "How's it work?" Arthur asked. "Well, it uh..."

Chapter 20

Ahem." Aaron straightened himself. "It works like this: You will kill someone, releases negative protons and electrons into the air. I'll pull my switch and it will even out those protons and electrons. It will also merge with air molecules, making the air damper. With the increasement of substances in the area I'll just release chemical substances to mix and make everyone forget about keeping Pokémon in balls." Aaron explained. None of it was true but Aaron was hoping Arthur didn't understand any of it. Arthur barely made out and words but nodded in agreement. After all, he thought, if he's using all those big words he must know what he's talking about. Arthur and Aaron, accompanied by Mantine, went into the city and were ready. "Now." Aaron called, pointing to a giant workplace. Arthur readied a Solar Beam and shot it at the unexpecting people in the building. Hearing her brother, Athena shot out to the source of the noise, Jacob on back. "Mum?" Arthur stopped. "Mum? No, it's Athena... Are you alri…" Athena stopped when she saw Aaron. "What did you do to him this time?!" Athena asked angrily. Aaron just stared at her, not knowing what she said. "What did he do to you?" Athena asked Arthur. Arthur looked at her. "I...I am sorry. I do not know who you are." Arthur said slowly. "You gave him amnesia?! What is wrong with you?!" Athena shouted, very angry. "Master did nothing. It was your brother's stupidity that made him get amnesia." Mantine pointed. "My brother is not stupid and no Pokémon will ever be dumber than you! You work for a criminal, a wanted outlaw! What is the matter with you?!" Athena said, screaming now. "Look, Missy, if your brother can't tell his black from blue then he's the idiot. I work for master because he saved me life, not that it's to your concern." Mantine said. "Can't tell his black from blue...? Why should that matter, he's colorblind!" Athena yelled. "I was wondering why he was poking around the black berry bush. Although I did figure that much out. Either he was colorblind or he was dumb. Luckily I found him." Mantine said. "He ate blackberries?!" Athena panicked. "I'm right here. And I am not stupid, Mantine." Arthur corrected. "Uh... Not you, I was talking about...-" "He was talking about you. He's not your friend, I am. Are you going to let these evildoers boss you around?" Athena asked. "Aaron is my friend. And I have never seen you before. Leave." Arthur said firmly. Athena's face dropped. "Perhaps you remember Jacob?" Athena wished, pointing to the slender boy. "Um, no. I'm tired of your tricks. Leave." Arthur said. Athena began to cry. Arthur just stared at her when it all came back. "Athena? I'm sorry, I remember now." Arthur said. "Arthur?" Athena asked confused. Arthur held his little arms in a hugging position. Athena hugged him and then they all turned to Aaron. "You were never my friend." Arthur said nastily. "Arthur, what are you talking about?" Aaron said. "Memory's bad, Aaron, and I will never work for you." Arthur said. "That wore off pretty quickly." Aaron said to himself. "I already got you to injure all these people." Aaron said, pointing to the building now in flames below. Arthur threw Aaron off his back. Mantine caught him and used a Bubblebeam. Arthur used Hyper Beam. Athena transformed into Palkia and used Spacial Rend. Jacob called his Pokémon out and told them to try their attacks. "No fair, four on one." Aaron said. He said something to Mantine and they fled. "I really wish he'd stop taunting us." Athena said. "I am so sorry I didn't believe you, and now a building is in flames because of my doing." Arthur said. Jacob already had a small device out after he called his Pokémon back. It was a cell phone and he was calling for help. "Arthur, fire trucks are coming. I'd be best if you went home." Jacob told him. Arthur nodded and with Athena they headed home.

Chapter 21

The trio walked home without a word. Arthur felt terrible about his actions. Why did he have to eat those berries? Athena thought it was all her fault. If she had never left Arthur alone she could've told him the berries were black. Jacob was still confused by the whole thing. "What happened back there?" he broke the silence. Athena looked at Jacob and shook her head saying, "Don't dare ask that!" She knew her brother wouldn't want to speak right now. If Arthur did something wrong he wouldn't want to talk, sometimes for straight days, to anyone. Athena didn't understand it most of the time but she knew it and didn't talk to him much when he felt guilt. She did try cheering him up sometimes. "Arthur?" Jacob asked. He noticed Athena telling him to stop and just silently walked. They walked back to the lab. When there, Jacob turned on the TV. On the screen was the daily news. The thin woman was speaking. "And downtown a giant unidentified Pokémon sent the shoes factory in flames. Three people were killed, many others with severe injuries. We asked a passerby what happened and here's what he said:" the woman said. Then a plump man was on the screen. "I was just walking home from work when I saw a giant blue and white Pokémon burn the factory. I had never seen the Pokémon before. The Pokémon had a man on his back. I also saw a glimpse of another Pokémon that looked much like the first, only in red." the man explained. "Thank you. And back to James with the weather." the thin woman said. Athena transformed into a human and changed the channel. Jacob looked at her but didn't speak. "I'm going for some time alone." Arthur said to Athena. He was off before she could reply. "I really wish you could talk, Athena." Jacob said. "It'd be a lot easier. I mean, I would like to know what happened back there and I don't think Arthur's going to tell me. Do you think we could teach you sign language?" Jacob asked her. Athena cocked her head to the right. "Sign language is a language that doesn't involve speech. You 'speak' with your body. It's quite interesting." Jacob explained, assuming Athena didn't know what sign language is. Athena thought for a bit then nodded. "But how will we sign you up?" Jacob wondered. "Sure I have the money, but I'm a kid. I need someone to sign us both up. We need someone who is 18 years or older. Where can we find someone like that?" Jacob wondered.

Chapter 22

You could always transform into someone over 18, but you can't speak. What if they get curious? I guess we have to take the chance..." Jacob thought. Athena wanted to wait for Arthur to get home so she could ask him. She transformed into a human and sat on a couch in front of a TV. They waited for hours before he came back. "Athena, you'll never believe what happened!" Arthur exclaimed as soon as he came through the door. Athena looked up at him. "What?" she asked. "I was just flying around when I saw this nice island. I flew down to it. No one was there. I stayed there for a while. No one came. It's vacant! Athena, it can be our new home!" Arthur said excitedly. "How far is it?" Athena asked. She had made great friends with Jacob and didn't want to just leave. "An estimated 20 miles from here." Arthur answered. "20 miles? But what about Jacob? We can't just leave." Athena said. "Athena, what are you saying? We can be away from all these humans again." Arthur said. "And alone. I don't want to be cramped on an island with my only company being you. No offense…" Athena said. "Arthur, I need your permission to take a class in sign language." Athena asked before they started to fight. She explained what sign language was."No." came Arthur's simple reply. "What? Why not?" Athena asked. "Athena, I don't need you talking to humans. No." Arthur replied. Athena was very angry. "You can talk to humans." Athena reminded. "That's because…" Arthur didn't want to hurt his sister by saying something like "That's because I'm more mature" or "That's because I'm older". He searched for the right words. "Come see the island, Athena. It's wonderful." Arthur said changing the subject. "No. I will take sign language class." Athena said. "You will come to the new island." Arthur told her. "You're going alone. I will not accompany you." Athena said. She transformed into a human and motioned Jacob to go. "Athena." Arthur said in a strong voice. She ignored him. She and Jacob went to their new class while Arthur, very mad at his sister, flew to the new island. Jacob and Athena did get let in to class and went every day. When going home to the new island one day, Arthur saw a kid about 10 years old staring at him. The child looked away when he noticed Arthur was staring at him. Arthur paid it no mind and went back to his island. Three months had passed and Arthur and Athena weren't back together. Athena had told Jacob what happened through sign language. She and Jacob were both quick learners and were pretty good at signing. Jacob missed Arthur's company and so did Athena. She wouldn't dare call for him. What if he was too far to hear? Aaron soon found himself on Arthur's island, thanks to a child he had hired to follow Arthur. "Hello, Arthur." Aaron said.

Chapter 23

Arthur looked at Aaron in shock. "What do you want?" Arthur asked rudely. "And how are you here?" "I paid a kid to follow any Latios or Latias he saw. Luckily, he found and followed you and Athena." Aaron explained. "Where is she?" Arthur demanded. "Athena? She's in a cage. I caught her." Aaron said. Arthur grimaced. "Prove it." Arthur demanded. Aaron pulled out a recorder from his coat pocket. He pressed the play button. The recorder played a message which just sounded like a Pokémon's roar to Aaron. Arthur heard otherwise. "Arthur, help!" screeched the recording. "Tell me, Arthur, do you love your sister?" Aaron asked. "Are you kidding? I'd put a knife through my throat just to see a smile on her face." Arthur confessed. "Prove it." Aaron said. Arthur's eyes widened. Aaron gave Arthur a pocket knife. "Do what you said and I'll let Athena go." Aaron said. "How will I be certain that you'll let her go?" Arthur asked. "If I do not do as I say let me be stricken by lightning, hit by a truck, perished." Aaron said. "Let one of your friends kill me." He said more simply. Arthur thought for a moment. "Either you die or Athena. Choose wisely." Aaron said. Arthur took the knife in his quivering claws. Just as he was about to put it through his neck, a blur of black and white smacked the knife out of his claws. "No!" Aaron yelled. Arthur opened his eyes. "What just hit me?" Arthur wondered. An Absol grabbed the knife with his sharp teeth.

Chapter 24

What are you doing?!" Arthur exclaimed at the Absol. "Preventing disaster from happening. Obviously." The Absol replied. "What I do with my life is none of your business." Arthur said sternly. "Look. Absol have a job. We show up moments before a disaster. Most people and Pokémon get that wrong. We don't cause them, just show up when they come. If I had a feeling to come here then I'm here to warn and prevent. My senses aren't wrong." Absol said. "Arthur. Your sister is waiting your reply." Aaron warned. The Absol looked at Aaron. "He...wants you to pierce yourself. Claims he has your sister. Am I right?" Absol asked. "How did you…?" Arthur looked at him in shock. "Absol have to be smart. Ask me? It's a trick. Man doesn't look pleasant. Does he have proof?" Absol asked. "Yes. On a recording he captured my sister calling for help." Arthur said. "Tell him to play it again." Absol said. "How do you know I can use telepathy?" Arthur asked. Absol ignored him. "Play the recording again." Arthur told Aaron. Aaron looked at him with suspicion but did as he said. The recorder replayed. Absol listened carefully. "That sound like your sister?" he asked. "Yes, it does." Arthur said. "Ask him where your sister's at. " Absol said. "Where's Athena? Where are you keeping her?" Arthur asked. Aaron was getting aggravated. He acted quickly and snatched the knife from Absol. He threw it at Arthur. Arthur tried dodging but the knife sliced he wing. "It was a trick! All of it! I don't have your sister! Hah, now I've got you. And now you can help me destroy the world. First, I need to get my new Eerie Balls." Aaron said. "Arthur! Are you okay?! Quick, where can I find your sister?!" the Absol said. "A...laboratory across the sea. She should be with a boy named Jacob. Sometimes she takes the….form of a human. Bring her to me. Please." Arthur breathed. "I can't swim." Absol said. "Hurry. Before Aaron comes back…" Arthur gasped for air. The Absol sprinted to the shore. The dove into the water. He tried swimming best he could. After nearly drowning himself numerous times he made it across. He continued to run. He saw many tall buildings. He scratched at the door of a laboratory. A boy answered the door. The Absol assumed it was Jacob so he ran in the house looking for a female. He found one and nipped her hand. "Athena?" Absol asked. "Who are you?" she asked. "Your brother needs you." Absol rushed to the door. "Some man named Aaron pierced him with a knife." Absol continued. The girl's eyes widened. The girl used sign language to tell the boy Arthur's in trouble. She transformed into a Latias. Jacob climbed on her back. "Come on my back. Tell me where to go." Athena said. Absol nodded. Absol lead them over the sea. Everyone climbed off of Athena and she ran to her brother. "Arthur!"

Chapter 25

Athena ran to take the knife out of her brother's wing. Jacob stoped her. "Don't take the knofe out, he can bleed to death. It's best to just leave it in until we find help." Jacob told her."Athena, we need to bring Arthur back to the mainland. How?" Jacob asked. "You'd better hurry. Aaron went to get his Eerie Balls." Absol reminded. "Right. Umm.." Athena thought for a minute. "With great difficulty I could probably transform into say, a Giratina, and carry him over." She said to Absol then signed to Jacob. She transformed into Giratina and attempted to pick up her brother. He was heavy but they did manage to get across the water. There they went to the Pokémon Center where they found a surprised Nurse Joy. They explained what had happened and Joy examined the limp Latios carefully. "This knife went in deep. If it affected too much tissue it may need to be amputated." Nurse Joy said. "But they he'll never be able to fly!" Athena said, now as a Latias. Absol, being the only one to understand her at this point, just started. "Can't you replace it?" Athena asked transforming into a human and signing it to Jacob. Jacob repeated her words. "How often do you take care of a Latios? We have no Latios spare wings…" Nurse Joy said sadly. "Well do something! Anything!" Athena nearly yelled. Absol knew the humans could not understand her but he didn't point it out. Arthur opened his eyes barely conscious. "Athena?" he telepathically said to his sister. "Arthur!" she ran over to Arthur to hug him. Thank goodness you're okay." She said. "Absol, thank you for helping me." Arthur said to Absol, too weak to not use telepathy. "I did what any Absol would've." He said. "You swam. You said you didn't know how." Arthur said. "I didn't. But that's not the point. Just… You get better now, okay?" Absol said. The Absol jumped away in that mysterious way Absol do. "I never caught your name…" Arthur said in telepathy. Absol stopped, but only for a second and continued walking away. "Thank you…" Arthur let out a sigh as he bid the Absol farewell. "Arthur? How do you feel?" Arthur identified the voice as Jacob's, as he could not turn his head. Nurse Joy turned to face Arthur. "That's a relief, he's awake." Nurse Joy said.

Chapter 26

I will now try sewing his incision up." Nurse Joy said after an odd moment of silence. She took her tools and got to work. "I cannot believe this." Athena signed to Jacob. "After three months, I see my brother for the first time to find him terribly injured. I cannot take this anymore. Aaron has messed with us way to many times." She let out. "Yes, but what can we do?" Jacob asked. "I don't know…" Athena admitted. They both let out big sighs. "The police are aware of him. Maybe if we get everyone we can stop him?" Athena signed. "I guess we could try it." Jacob said. After hearing Arthur was going to stay at the hospital they tried bringing awareness to Aaron and his evil plan with Eerie Balls. No one listened however, and it all failed. Aaron seemed to have misplaced his Eerie Balls and by the time he found them Arthur was long gone. He searched for his new home with no luck. A few weeks after first coming to the hospital Arthur was feeling much better. He could move his wing but barely. "Arthur, I don't want to live apart anymore. But, I want to live with Jacob." Athena said one day. Arthur didn't know what to say. He didn't want to live away from Athena either. "Then I guess we're living in Jacob's house." Arthur said. Athena's mouth dropped. "What? Really?" Athena asked. "Sure. We'll be safe with him." Arthur said. "But it's in the city…" Athena reminded. "I know. But you have made me realize something. Not all humans are bad. Jacob helped us. Nurse Joy is trying hard to save my life. They obviously aren't mean like Aaron." Arthur said. "Arthur, I want to stop Aaron. He has been pestering us, and other Pokémon, for a long time now. And I need your help. What can I do?" Athena asked. "That is a big task. How? I do not know. Maybe if we give it time we can find a way to stop him." Arthur said. Athena nodded. "Are you well enough to go home?" she asked. Arthur nodded. "I feel fine. I haven't actually tried flying though." Arthur said. He got up and spread his wings. He took off. Athena followed. "Do you feel okay?" Athena asked. "Slight pain. I'm fine." Arthur said. He landed in front of the hospital. He told Nurse Joy he was leaving. Joy wished him luck. They flew to Jacob's lab. Jacob was happy to see Arthur well again and openly accepted him in his household. They lived happily while Arthur's wing healed. People were curious about Arthur's species. Arthur found no way around it so he told them about himself and Athena. Scientists wanted to know more as well. Arthur allowed no tests on him or his sister. After a few more weeks he was healed. But, with everyone knowing about him and Athena, Aaron found out. He came one day. "Me piercing you was not enough?" he asked Arthur. "You can endure just about anything, can't you?" he said. "I am tired of having to leave home after home because of you. So stop now and I will not hurt you." Arthur said. Aaron laughed. Arthur readied a Hyper Beam. Aaron summoned Mantine for a battle. "Let's make a deal." Aaron said. "Arthur slowed his Hyper Beam but did not stop it. "If I win, you will come with me and be my servant." Aaron said. "And if I win you leave this place and never return." Arthur said. "Deal. Now, we battle. Mantine, Hydro Pump!" Aaron said. Arthur and Mantine's battle continued. Mantine was oddly strong, but Arthur was strong as well. It continued for a while. Then, it ended.

Chapter 27

Athena watched in horror as her brother and Mantine fell to the ground. Everyone stared at the two defeated Pokémon confused. How the battle ended surprised them. Arthur had used a Dark Pulse and Mantine a Solar Beam. Each Pokémon had used a move super effective against themselves. The moves clashed together and rebounded. Arthur had received his own powerful dark-type attack while Mantine received his grass type attack. Both attacks wiped their user out. "Arthur? Are you alright?" Athena asked. "Mantine, get up!" Aaron shouted. Arthur lifted his head. Athena hugged him as a human. "Mantine!" Aaron yelled again. Arthur got up entirely after about three minutes but Mantine did not. Mantine was breathing hard, until his breaths faded and he was no longer breathing. "Mantine! Do something! Mantine!" Aaron yelled. Jacob heard the fear in his voice. "He's not breathing. We have to get him to the Pokémon Center." Jacob said. "I cannot." Aaron said. He knew by going to the Pokémon Center he would expose himself to public. That came with the possibility of going to jail. "Mantine is not breathing. What part of that did you not get?" Jacob asked. Aaron thought for a moment. "Let's go." He let out. Athena teleported them to the Pokémon Center. Aaron waited for his Mantine, his best and only friend, to come out of the emergency room. They all waited in silence. Finally the nurse came out. "How is he?" Aaron said instantly. "We managed to get a heartbeat. He is very weak. Oh and he was…" Nurse Joy stopped. "You look a lot like…Aaron." She said. Aaron was stunned. "I…um…" he stammered. "Just take care of Mantine." He said sternly. Nurse Joy was confused. She turned to look out the window and was surprised to see a wanted poster for Aaron. "Aaron, you have been wanted for quite a bit. For Pokémon cruelty, among other things. You're going downtown. To jail." She said. "You won't make me." He said. "I won't, but perhaps Jennifer will." Nurse Joy said calling the police. Aaron ran for the door but was stopped by a giant Graveler. It was Athena. Aaron looked around. Then a Water Pulse came and pushed Athena over. Aaron looked back. "Mantine!" he said with excitement. He jumped on him and took to the skies. Arthur used a Shadow Ball and pelted Aaron. He was ready to scream from pain. "Come back and I'll finish you." He threated. "I don't think he will come back now." Athena said. "We finally got rid of him." Arthur said. Officer Jenny came and was shocked by the story she was told. She left and Arthur, Jacob, and Athena went home, proud.

Chapter 28

Life went back to normal yet again at the lab. That is, until a month later. There was a knock at the door. Jacob answered. It was the police. "Hello Mr. Jacob. We have been informed that you have been living here for quite some time. May I ask how long?" the officer asked. "12 years, sir." The officer paced around a bit. "Funny, this lot hasn't been owned by anyone for 4 years." He said. Jacob cleared his throat. "I have been living here all my life, including those four years." He said. "The name Luke Stone ring a bell?" the officer asked. "My father, Mr. Greg." Jacob said reading the officer's nametag. "Tell me, when did he die?" Greg asked. "Four years ago sir." Jacob answered. "Where is your mother?" Greg asked. "She died many years ago." Jacob answered. "Who have you been living with since then?" Greg showed no compassion to Jacob's mother. "My Pokemon." He answered. "You are not allowed to be living alone at your age. You must be taken to an orphanage, or a home or" "Please let me stay home with my Pokemon. They are responsible. Two can communicate with me." Jacob interrupted. "Hah. And I have a Cyndaquil that knows sign language. Pokemon can't talk." Greg joked. "No, but my friends, Arthur and Athena can communicate. Arthur knows telepathy and Athena...actually does know sign language." Jacob said. Greg was taken aback. Arthur and Athena joined Jacob. "He's not lying." Arthur said. Greg cleared his throat. "Even if your Pokemon can speak, you are living alone and that is illegal." He said. Jacob just looked down. "He's been managing very well on his own and he takes wonderful care of his Pokemon." Arthur said. "Yup. He's like a big brother to us all." Athena added. Jacob translated for her. "I don't care. C'mon Jacob. We're taking you to a boy's home." Greg said. "Sir, I cannot." He said. Greg pulled out a cell phone. "What are you doing?" Jacob asked. "Calling my colleagues. You're coming with me."

Chapter 29

After some arguing Jacob reluctantly went with the officers. Athena and Arthur followed behind him. One wrong move and Arthur would scorch them all. They were brought to the entrance of a home and Jacob, Arthur, Athena, and an officer stayed outside. They heard yelling from inside. Other than that it was silent. Then they went to the police office. It was quieter there but there was still a lot of noise. Greg came out. "Jacob, whether you like it or not you will have to go to a boy's home. You can keep your Pokémon, but we're not sure you can become a Pokémon trainer just yet. You don't have parents, so you'll have to wait another year." He said. "I already have my license! I don't have to wait at all!" Jacob yelled. "Really?! Well how did you obtain this license?! Huh?! Kids can't get their license 'til they're 10 and your dad died four years ago, when you were 8! You forged it, didn't you!" Greg yelled louder. Another officer whispered to Greg to calm down. Jacob opened his mouth to explain, but found it pointless. Who would believe it? "Jacob Stone you are going to a home right this instant!" Greg yelled. "Excuse me" a woman interrupted. "And you are…?" Greg asked her. "Jacob Stone? Son of Luke and Patricia Stone?" the woman continued. "Yes…ma'am." Jacob answered uncertainly. "Wow, it's been so long Jacob. Perhaps you don't remember me. I'm sorry, remember Janine? Or as you called me, Jani?" she asked. Jacob thought but couldn't remember the woman. "I was the family maid. That is, until your mother died. I am so sorry, Jacob. Last I saw you you were just a little child. Look at all you've grown! How's Luke?" she continued. "He died. Four years ago…" Jacob answered. "Oh my, I'm so sorry! But that makes you…an orphan." She looked at Greg. "Is that what you were talking about? I couldn't help but overhear. Oh, he can't go to a home!" she said. "The decision's been made and is not open for discussion." Greg said. "He cannot live alone." Janine waited for Greg to nod. When he did she continued. "So he won't have to. Jacob, if I can be your nanny you won't have to go to a home. Of course you don't have to worry about payment. It's been so long, I'd love to watch you again. What do you say?" she asked. Greg cleared his throat. "You'll need to adopt him to do that. So like I was doing earlier, c'mon Jake." He said. Jacob looked at Janine with pleading eyes. "Then I guess it will have to be done. Give me the forms." Janine said after much thought. "I remember my son when he was your age. He passed when he was in his thirties. He never gave me grandchildren. I could be like your grandmother. Would you like that, Jacob?" Jacob's face lit up. This woman seemed nice. She had known his parents, and even him. And he didn't have to go to a home? This sounded great! "I could never ask this of any woman, especially one I haven't met." Jacob said. "Nonsense. I've known you your life. And I'd love to adopt you." Janine smiled. "Let's make it official." She said to Greg. Suddenly, Jacob remembered their maid. She had beautiful brown hair, greying at its roots. It was Janine. He remembered his name for her, Jani. He couldn't speak well and Jani was all he could get out of her name. He hugged her hard. "I remember, Jani." He whispered. She hugged him back and they went to fill out the paperwork.

Chapter 30, the final chapter

Janine filled out paperwork and after a few weeks she was a legal guardian of Jacob. Jacob's new name for her was Gramma Jani, as she was too old to be his mother. Jacob went out to be a real Pokémon trainer after his thirteenth birthday. He came back to the lab every once in a while. He stayed with his four Pokémon, his four best friends. Arthur was surprised at how much trust he put in Jacob, and he protected him like a little brother. Jacob obtained 20 badges by his fifteenth birthday, and went to get all of them. Janine died of a heart attack the day before Jacob's seventeenth birthday and Jacob told himself he would earn every badge, for that was Janine's final wish. Athena and Arthur were never again alone, and nor was Jacob. They all got along like a family, three orphans bound together by fate. They were never bothered again by Aaron, never asked for some tests for their species, never messed with because of their uniqueness. They took care of each other, and they grew up together. Because of disobedience Arthur was able to become closer with his sister and less afraid of the outside world. And everything turned out wonderfully. The End
